After a day at the beach, one of our family members asked us to join him for dinner, but left the destination up to us, figuring since we lived in Pinellas Co, we'd have the scoop. I played Yelp roulette and landed on one place, but it was closed, so Roosterfish Grill was our 2nd location. First impressions are everything and this parking lot was busy. Busy parking lot means popular destination. It was early on Sunday evening, just 5:30 pm so Early bird as well, as seen by nearly every head inside was a shade of gray and I think we were one of three tables under 55. Id never heard of the location, so I had no idea what to expect, the name said chicken/fish and that is more or less what the menu said too. Our waitress, Carmen was very prompt, very friendly, absolutely wonderful. My brother in law placed an order for the ahi appetizer and seemed to enjoy every bite. When our mains came to the table: Popcorn shrimp platter, Fried Grouper and a NY Strip, we were surprised at the sizes of the portions. The grouper came with 3 fillets, the popcorn shrimp was huge. The NY Strip was large as well, 12 oz. The sides were generous and well seasoned, I really liked the green beans and their garlic mashed potatoes. I was disappointed in the steak and this takes one star away from what would have been a 4 star review, because the meat tasted more of propane than it did of meat. Cruising around town in the good old Land Yacht sure made me and my Favorite First Mate hungry! We had a hankering for some Seafood! After 'casting' our eyes on some Yelp reviews and recommendations, we decided to drop anchor at Roosterfish Grill. It was just after 1pm, one of those late March days in Florida that wouldn't let you decide if you're a little too warm or just a tad too cool. With a stiff breeze blowing we opted to sit inside, near a window in the bar, as opposed to enjoying the windy outside deck. Our server was the very pleasant and fun Kira. She took great care of our needs. I started out with a cup of the Lobster Bisque. I found the taste to be on point, what you'd expect. I was wishing there were actual pieces or chunks of lobster. I just found essentially a pureed thin slurry of that luscious crustacean. Fab First Mate ordered just the Calamari. She really enjoyed it and I'd say that was a good choice for her. Me? I ordered the RG's Fried Fish Sandwich, which is 3 Alaskan Pollock fillets on my choice of a brioche bun. The fish was crunchy cooked good, with no greasy aftertaste. The bun, slathered with some tartar sauce set this sandwich up nicely. With a side of Coleslaw this was a Good Choice! I'll admit it's pretty hard to fairly summarize a seafood place until you've had some of their main entrées. I'd say based on our experience and after perusing the menu plus the volume of patrons walking in, that Roosterfish Grill may just have something to CROW about! I Don't Get It We hadn't been to Roosterfish Grill for many years. I'd known it to be relatively inexpensive and fairly good. The positive reviews kept piling up, so I thought I'd give it another try. The place was packed on a Friday evening with a line at the door. I'm glad I had made a reservation which got us a table in just a couple minutes. The mojito I ordered was quite large for a low price. There wasn't much rum in it, but it was refreshing. We moved on to share a bowl of lobster bisque. It was quite thick with too much corn starch or something similar. The flavor wasn't that good and we only ate about half of it. For mains we had Mango Mahi and Chicken Oscar. The mahi was OK. The chicken was a little overcooked and the sauce on top was gloopy--again too much corn starch? Prices were OK. Service was friendly and efficient but rushed. Atmosphere is a bit strange. In some ways it's a standard fish house. But the paper towel rolls hanging above each table feels like a beach dive. As I say, I don't get it. However, lots of others seem to. Roosterfish Grill obviously doesn't need my vote--or another visit. read more

Roosterfish was a good, quick stop experience. Stoped here for a quick bite and was greeted politely and seated in the covered deck. You may hear some geeae fighting outside. I ordered from the lunch menu before 5pm which offers fried Alaskan Pollock which is all you can eat. I ate about 7 fillets which was good! Be careful though because it's fried and greasy! Not a good experience here. Not sure what all the hype is about here! Sat nearly 10 minutes before we were recognized. Then another 10 minutes on getting our beverages. 25 minutes and two servers on getting water??? Service is a horror show! The menu has more market priced items than a fish market?? We had to ask the prices of nearly all the fresh fish dishes. But they only get grouper local. All other fish including the shrimp come from the 4 corners of the earth. What's up with that? Local fish has very little if any shipping costs but not my deal. Our order came relatively quickly. But the kitchen server delivering our meal dropped both plates on the table? Was he mad? My wife and I ate dinner here. She ordered the crusted tilapia. I ordered the fried halibut fish and chips special. The tilapia was served as 3 filets with a raspberry horseradish sauce on the side. The sauce had some bite, but also has an initial raspberry flavor. The fish and chips special consisted of an initial five filets with the option of all you can eat for $15.99. I was full after the first serving. Food was good. Service was attentive. The restaurant itself is fairly small and is somewhat dated in its decor. I'm terrible at taking pictures, I always forget. Tonight we went to Roosterfish Grill for a 50th wedding anniversary for my husband's parents. There were about 30 of us in a side room. We had Ryan as our server, Just Ryan. This review can be all about him because he was what made this occasion AMAZING!! Ryan worked this room of senior citizens (minus 4 GenXer's) he was attentive, quick, funny, personable, sweet, and efficient. This guy got all the drinks, took all the dinner orders, never once did we see him sweat! His only help for the 3 hours we were there was delivering food and he remembered what everyone ordered. I can't give him enough praise. Everyone enjoyed their meals, I ordered the stuffed haddock with mashed potatoes and garlic green beans. The food was good, nothing over the top and a decent portion. My MIL is handicapped and even leaving the restaurant, the ladies at the hostess stand were very personable and looked her in the eye, congratulated her, smiled and opened the door for her. I know that this is something that shouldn't be unexpected but in todays work force it is. Whoever is in charge of the hiring here has done an excellent job. I want to give Ryan another shout out! Disappointing experience. Ordered takeout and did not check the order before we left. Got home and one of our meals was completely wrong. Called and spoke to Mgr and he assured me it would be credited back. It was not. I just chalked it up to experience as I rarely complain. My husband shared his fisherman's platter with me and it was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the price. Giving 2 stars because the one thing that was good was the fried shrimp. This is only my second visit to Roosterfish grill and I am so happy with my visit, I had to review it...First off, my meal was outstanding! I had mahi mahi grilled, mashed garlic potatoes and garlic green beans. To say I love garlic would be an understatement, but this meal was seasoned perfectly! It wasn't hot the way I like it, but the flavors were unsurpassed. Of eight people at our table, none had a single complaint. Our server, Lori was so friendly, efficient and we felt as if we were the only table she had, even while the place was jammed. The business brings in a nice group of folks; no riff Raff. Visiting the area and this restaurant received 4 stars and it was nearby our VRBO. I was underwhelmed and surprised that it was rated a 4. We asked for outdoor seating and it was quite disappointing. The "smoking corner" for the restaurant was a place right behind the outdoor seating area. Everyone who came to have a smoke was definitely an irritant for the entire section outdoors. It was small (maybe 8-10 tables). Our waitress was excellent and she should definitely have 5 stars! However, the other gentleman waiter was a smoker and he reeked of smoke and was even standing there smoking in the "smoking corner" while working. Food you might be wondering... it was ok. Not fabulous but more than edible. I would recommend the crab cake appetizer for sure. Main dishes were alright, nothing over the top but the price was reasonable. I had prime rib special (pretty sure it was a ribeye). I didnt get to choose how I would like it cooked. It just came well done. But it had flavor and wasn't horrible. Dessert, go to the store and get yourself a Sara Lee key lime pie, I'm pretty certain it was from there. All in all I would call this place average and prices right for what you get. We searched nearby for all you can eat fried fish and this place popped up with Early Dine specials. As we were stopping to eat a late lunch en route to Tampa, we decided to give Roosterfish Grill a try. We noted tropical fish themed decor upon entering and were quickly seated in a booth. Our waitress brought the early dine menu, daily specials menu, and regular menu. 3 of the 4 of us went with the $9.99 all you can eat fish n chips & coleslaw. My daughter (not a fish eater) ordered a grilled chicken with bacon & cheese sandwich in a brioche roll and fries. We all thought the food was good and early dine prices reasonable for a family meal out on vacation. Many restaurants offer early dine and happy hours deals so it's worth looking into if vacationing on a budget! Offering hush puppies or a larger variety of side dishes as option for the fish platters would've been nice. Baked potato, a non salad vegetable option, or Mac n cheese. With an 'all you can eat' offer I'm sure fries as the side is the most cost effective but having alternate sides available as an 'upgrade' would have made this more highly rated. All in all though, great price for 'all you can eat' even if you don't eat more than the first platter of food. read more

We've been seeing some pictures on Facebook so rather than going out on Valentine's day we decided to make it an early Valentine's day and go out on Wednesday. It happened to be happy lobby at roosterfish and I'm a fan of Maine lobster. Yes there are lots of blue hairs in here. I can say that because I am one myself haha. What can I say the old people know where the good food is. Beer ice cold draft pints are $2.50. I ordered the stuff Maine lobster. Absolutely loved it. The crab meat is so delicious I got to come back and try the crab cakes. My boyfriend got the Florida lobster tail. He was not as impressed and said it was not his favorite. His corn on the cob was mushy and we switched for French fries which were fine. Coleslaw was good nothing great and the green beans were yummy. We ended with a slice of homemade key lime pie. We (3 family members) ate here in Jan of 2022. Dishes were fresh and delicious. We ate a lot there. Price is really affordable.  Garlic Oysters, Chowder, Mahi, Grouper Oscar were all fresh and good. Came here for lunch in November 2022 based on good reviews. Strong oder of fish on arrival, seated inside. Paper towels hang from the ceiling at each table. Thinking there must have been damage from Hurricane Ian as areas were not clean, bathrooms worse. So disappointed with the overall condition of the restaurant and the meals. Appetizer was 'fresh" calamari, overcooked or old, not sure which. Two of us ordered the Gulf Grouper Sandwich, not fresh, bread stale and had a small cafeteria bowl for a side. I ordered clam strips, very small portion and dry, side of coleslaw that was soupy, wilted. The menu mentioned issues with food supply and a major hurricane blew through 2 months prior. Hoping that was the reason for the poor experience. Will try seating outside in a few months and see if things improve, fingers crossed. read more

I looked up seafood restaurants in the area and this one seemed the best bet based on reviews. I arrived at 5pm on a Friday and the place was nearly packed, but there was no wait. I felt bad getting a table for one, but it is what it is. I may have been the youngest patron at 49 years old. Looks like the silver haired crowd packs in for the early bird specials (before 5 pm). It did not disappoint. I had the blackened Mahi with red potatoes and broccoli and a side of hush puppies. All were cooked perfectly and delicious. I'm in town for another 7 nights. We order hush puppies, shrimp Argentine, and sautéed scallops. The hostess and waitress Mary were very friendly and Mary made Excellent suggestions for lunch and mentioned we could Order off the dinner menu, too. The hush puppies were hot, sweet and delicious! They don't spare the butter. Shrimp and scallops were very well seasoned, the potatoes were delicious and firm. Coleslaw was sweet and well seasoned not soupy. I love everything about Roosterfish, the eclectic decor hanging from the ceiling and walls and the enchanting collection on the shelves in the bar. Their wonderful menu features lobster, prime rib, salmon and a tasty array of appetizers, with a fantastic happy hour. There is always a friendly group at the U shaped bar and no matter how busy it gets, the bartenders, Kira, the leader, with her staff, Angie, Brittany and Cameron are always gracious, fun and efficient. The grilled salmon with a side salad is one of my favorites, I guarantee that if you eat there once you will return again and again. I have not been to this place in a long while, so figured to dine in before going on an evening walk on the beach. This place is always busy with a small parking area (maybe 50 cars my guess). You are greeted with a smile as you walk in. They do not require masks to be worn but you can wear them if you wish. On to the grub reviews. The menu (in my opinion) is a bit confusing. They had a special going on today with Prime Rib shrimp scampi. I was like huh?!? We asked about that and it is a prime rib (served only medium temp) with shrimp scampi poured on top and you get two sides. I was still confused about how the server explained it so looked for other items on the menu. I was really in the mood for shrimp scampi since I saw scampi but they do not offer the pasta as a side. So now I'm a little disappointed so I ended up getting chicken Marsala with 2 side options. I selected the mashed potatoes with gravy and Cesar salad. I know I'm pretty disappointed too as I go to a restaurant with fish in the name and I didn't order seafood. I've had better chicken Marsala, my wife ordered Argentine shrimp dinner and she said it was delish. My mother in-law in the other hand was a little disappointed with with her Argentine shrimp order as they were tiny shrimps that looked like they pulled them out of those frozen bags you from the store. Overall, food was still good, but menu could use a little clarity. Others may find the menu clear but for me it a little confusing.
