Visited RoosterFish Pub over the July 4th weekend. First impressions were that there is no A/C and It seemed that this place was understaffed. We ordered drinks and my wife's wine glass had lipstick on it. However, my Ithaca beer was great as is their nice selection of beers. The service was lacking as it took forever to receive our food despite not being very busy when we ordered, as well as the waitress continuing to bring us drinks and food that wasn't ours, (probably overworked). On the plus side, the food was really good as all people in my party enjoyed their meals (Nashville hot chix sand/fish tacos/veggie flatbread/chix&rice). The musician singing and playing acoustic guitar in the bar helped add to the ambiance but overall the hot, slightly dirty atmosphere as well as the long wait for our food kind of killed the vibe for this place. read more

I was searching for Vegan restaurants and Wildflower came up as #1. They have a few vegan items on the menu: Fried mushroom in Ban Mi, Seitan Tacos, and Black Bean/Quinoa Burger. I was torn between the tacos and burger. I decided to go with the burger, I wish I went with the Seitan tacos instead! The "housemade" veggie burger didn't taste very homemade, it had a bland weird flavor to it. The burger flavor was masked by the thick bun and vegan mayo. I enjoyed the bun, but the paddy needs to be ramped up. The crispy fries were the best part of the meal, a nice small portion size to accompany the burger. Worth the upgrade. My fiancee enjoyed his burger and the side salad was okay, mixed greens without veggies. The server was kind and friendly. When he asked me how my meal was, I told him the truth, I should have gone with the tacos. He felt bad, it would have been nice if he brought out a taco or comped us someway. Overall, the meal was fine. If I'm in the area, I would come back to try the seitan tacos. I'm a bit disappointed that there aren't other vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Watkins Glen. read more

We went as a group of 17 at 1pm on a Saturday. They offered to let us hang in the front area by the bar and to order our food there, but then they were actually able to get enough seating together in the booth section for all of us! It was easier for us to order drinks at the bar and food at the table. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was BOMB and despite my reluctance to eat mushrooms, the burger with shrooms, bacon and swiss was perfectly cooked. The fries were pretty decent too. Great little spot right in the center of the city. We came here for dinner on the last night of vacation and we were all very pleasantly surprised. When you walk in it looks like a dive bar, with a family issue style area in the back. I wasn't expecting much based on the appearance, but I was blown away by the service and delicious food. I started off by ordering a bunch of apps and beers, my favorite being the crab dip and the pretzel with cheese. Both were totally delicious and went great with their chocolate Porter. I acted to get the Nashville hot sandwich for dinner which also was great. It was very spicy so be cautious if you're not crazy about spice. We were hiking in Watkins Glen Park and I wanted to hit up Rooster Fish like I did 2 years ago. After wandering around a little on Franklin St. - the main drag- I saw a sign that said it had moved down the street. The old place had picnic table outside and was more beer focused only if I remember- this place has the beer and a decent kitchen as well. But all indoor seating now. We had a table in the open window in front so it was like being outside sort of. It turns out my 3 friends aren't "craft beer" ppl- oh well. I ordered the Hop Warrior IPA- which was hoppy but delicious- and my friends ordered the Blonde Ale. Also good. They had burgers and I had the Nashville chicken sandwich- fried chicken with sweet and hot sauce, coleslaw and pickles on a bun. Very good but I had to use a knife and fork or I would still be mopping up the mess! Tasty. And after I finished the IPA I had their blueberry wheat beer which also kicked you know what! I was a big fan of their old place with the picnic tables and cornhole games, but overall this is probably a better location and business model for the future and I enjoyed it. read more

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT GO HERE!!! The menu is overpriced. $21 for a pulled pork sandwich and for fish tacos. $13 for a build your own burger with extra toppings $3 each. They only had 6 available beers on tap. One smelled and tasted like swamp water. All the other beers were warm with no head and were also flat. The waitress looked like a slob and was the worst server I ever had. The medium burger I ordered was raw and my plate was bloody, I couldn't eat it and my steamed broccoli was ice cold. When I told the waitress she was pissed off and rude. Luckily she did take it off the bill. The food the others in my party were served was barely edible. We witnessed a large group come in, sit down and then get up leave. I'm sorry we didn't do the same. The management should be ashamed of themselves for serving stale beer and barely edible overpriced food. Luckily none of us got sick because the tap lines for the beer probably need to be cleaned. And makes you wonder about the kitchen..... I just realized the menu they have posted does not reflect the outrageous prices that are almost double now. read more

Pros: great food courteous and accommodating staff. Cons: We were told the kitchen is backed up and food would take about 20 mins to come out. We waited 15 mins to sit and waited 45 mins to get the food out. When asked what's taking so long we were told they didn't have staff and only had two cooks. My turkey sandwich that was supposed to have avocado didn't have it. When I asked why, she said it was 86 out. How they compensated: brought out a free pretzel and discounted the sandwich. What could have been done better: full disclosure and let the customer decide if they want to wait that long Over all 3 stars for great food. Not five stars because ambiance and staff is lacking. We had such high hopes for this place. We knew immediately we had wanted to try a bunch of their stuff because it all sounded so good and fresh. For apps we ordered the cauliflower wings and and the nachos. I'm not sure what they consider wings but the cauliflower was small little pieces, mushy. Basically like roasted cauliflower with sauce. We've had really amazing cauli wings from Kindred Fare in Geneva and these compared to that we're not up to par. The nachos were extremely plain with just a few diced veggies and nacho cheese. They were just blah for $12-$14. For entrees we got the Fish Tacos and the Cauliflower tacos. Had I known that's what the cauliflower wings looked liked I wouldn't have ordered the tacos. They came with the same diced veggies that came on the nachos, same style cauliflower. They did have "haystacks" which is supposed to be crunchy fried little onion strings, which were good. And the vegan aioli was pretty good too. The fish tacos were the same as the cauli basically. We are huge fans of fish tacos and try them everywhere we go, but these were not good. There was supposed to be a cabbage slaw but it was really a slaw, more like a few pieces of cabbage and a lot of overly powering diced green peppers. The fries though.. they were good! Came here with my family after a Watkins Glen Gorge hike. The atmosphere is definitely "pub", but it's fine for kids. The food was great - we had the poutine fries, several cod sandwiches, an order of wings and a cheeseburger. All were great. Strongly recommended. read more

Lesson learned, always listen to Yelp. This place is poorly managed, under staffed, and not great at food and service. The only reason I'm not giving 1 star is bc the beer was decent, that is of course after we got a couple that were actually cold. The kitchen may have similar challenges given the food took a long time to come out as well. They did have a nice selection of local craft beers and cider, and sell local wine too. It was probably one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Let's start from the beginning because honestly nothing went right: 1) We walked in and the restaurant was empty and there were at least 4-5 servers walking around and not one acknowledged us. After about 10 min we finally were seated. 2) We ordered our food: I got the Nashville chicken sandwich with fries and my girlfriend got the mussel bowl with a side salad. 3) Food took too long to come out. Based on other reviews and how cold and soggy it was it seems like they have a habit of making it and just leaving it on the counter for 20 min before delivering it to customers?! The chicken patty reminded me of one those frozen ones that you would buy at the grocery store and have to defrost before eating. Honestly you'd get a better one at McDonald's. The roll was stale and the sauce was gross. Sandwich said it came with coleslaw, but it was nowhere to be found. Fries were cold and mushy. Couldn't even finish half of them. My girlfriends side salad came out with rotten lettuce and she had to send it back and taken off the bill. Mussels were blah and based on the experience we had we were just glad that she didn't get sick from eating them. 4) We both had to use the bathroom and quickly learned we would've been better off using a gas station bathroom. It probably would've been cleaner. It was grungy and there was paper towels thrown all over the floor because the waste basket was overflowing. Clearly they don't have bathroom checks at this place. We both wished we used the bathroom when we first walked in that way we could have ran away before ordering. 5) Icing on the cake was getting the overpriced food bill and seeing that they charged for the BBQ sauce I asked for on the side for my fries. Honestly who does that?! Everyone... please save yourself and avoid going here. It will quickly become the most painful 60 dollars spent in you life, both emotionally and physically. read more

Summary: Wildflower Cafe is half restaurant, half Brewery (The Crooked Rooster) that has a large menu of items featuring local ingredients and some interesting takes on old classics. Cost: Entrees are $10 to $20. About what you'd expect for what you get. Taste: I've been here twice and tried burgers both times (adventurous, right?). Had the Bacon Cheddar Burger the first time and the Jerk Burger the second. The Jerk Burger is a great mixture of Caribbean seasonings with some Pineapple and Onions. It was quite good. The Cheeseburger was good as well. The people I dined with both times tried a variety of items ranging from a Cherry Pork, Double Smoked Bacon Pizza, and Chicken & Shrimp. Everything looked good. Atmosphere: Might sound silly, but it's a bit dark in the back where the majority of the seating is. Oddly enough, the brewery part is up front in the sunlight. Seems like it'd be swapped. Also, the booths are a tad cramped, but no harm done. Overall: I like it here. The menu is huge (check their website) and just about everything sounds good to me. If I eat here again before heading to VA, I want to try the Catfish Tacos or one of the chicken fajita dishes. It's a solid place with a solid menu that offers something for everyone. read more

We had take out from here while we were in town. Super friendly and helpful. And our order was ready promptly. They have limited our door seating so we opted to take our food to go. It was packed nicely with utensils and napkins. I had the Caesar quinoa bowl-the food was fresh and plenty of it but nothing too special-just piles of the different ingredients-kalamata olives would have been a better choice than the black olives. Hubby had a green salad and the fish tacos. Both were fine-green salad came with picked red onions which he shared with me-they enliven my dish. His food was also good-large portions and the fish tacos come with fries....seemed an interesting choice. All food was solid-good-just stopped short of great. I just spent my 6th consecutive year at the Finger Lakes Wine Fest in Watkins Glen, and Rooster Fish is my usual go-to spot to kick off the weekend before drowning in wine. I've only ever sat on the brewery side so can't comment on the cafe side. Great selection of beer and they technically don't have a set sampler - you can just choose to taste however many you want. We each did 7 tasting beers and I believe it was about $13 if I remember correctly. They have a wide range but I really liked the blonde and the summer hef. Surprisingly even though I usually hate porters, theirs was pretty good and not as heavy as I thought it would be. Other than that, I had everything else on the menu except for IPAs (hate IPAs). I was bummed that the Tripel was out of season because that sounded delish! Food here has always been excellent! I had the shrimp po boy, and my friends had a burger and a salad. I always get the sweet potato fries! Most place don't season their SP fries, but they put the perfect amount of salt on them here and they were very yummy! My po boy was very good, loved the heat it was packing! The meal was the perfect size and I was stuffed. Their food is more on the expensive side, but on par with any other gastro/brewpub you'd go to. Our server was fantastic! Forget his name, but he was fun and engaging! And he even chased us down after we left because my friend accidentally left her keys at the table, whoops! Thanks dude! My one odd downside of the place is that the booths are super uncomfortable. They are wood and literally stick straight up. That wouldn't normally be a problem but the distance across the table is too small so that you can't really push the table to where everyone can get comfortable. Visited this brew pub mid-afternoon on a Saturday after walking around the park for a few hours - so we were hungry and happy to see the place wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly but the wait for our food to arrive was too long. Plenty of draught beer choices, we had the porter; it was pretty good. Food: poutine for starter, Husband had the pub burger and I had the pulled pork sandwich. Nothing was terrible but nothing impressed us either. The poutine gravy was not hot enough to melt the cheese so that was a fail. Prices seemed a bit high for quality of food but WG is a tourist town. We visited Watkins Glen for a few hours and after hiking the Glen we were happy to find a local brewery to try. Unfortunately, we were misled by Yelp. This place no longer brews their own brand, but do carry other local wineries/breweries products. The staff was friendly & helpful with menu. We ordered one beer, one cocktail, chicken wings and Brussel sprouts. The cocktail was very good. We were surprised to only receive 8 wings for the price and the Brussel sprouts were not cooked enough. The bill shockingly came to $58! I couldn't believe it. I thought there might be a resort/tourist tax attached, but there wasn't. If you're looking to bring a family or to get more food for the price I'd probably go elsewhere. I'm still in shock for the little amount of food & price we paid. I should have paid better attention to the menu prices & asked about amount of wings, but most places provide at least 10. Just left this establishment. Upon entry the waitress was very rude when she stated that our party of 8 couldn't enter because - they had a party limit of 6. Meanwhile- the entire establishment was empty. Our response was to seat our party separately- it wouldn't be a problem. Then they kept going on about how a party of 6 was the limit and they would have to serve our tables at different time. All the while- it all felt extremely UNWELCOMING. Someone in my party mentioned how they were making it very complicated. To which the waitress responded "I don't need an attitude - I won't be serving you". It was clear she didn't want to serve our party from the onset- and then she proceeded to escalating the issue she created. This establishment is lucky we were on the road for 5 hours and had headaches from being so angry. We should've left then and there- but we didn't want to go off in search of another locale at that moment. All the while the other waitress Samantha tried her best to accommodate us- although the air had already been tainted. To the rude waitress in college - you should be mindful of how you deliver messages- especially during a time when all in the service industry should appreciate business. Wehn I got there I discovered most of the appetizers advertised on the online menu weren't actually on the menu. We were a group of 6 and they kept seating groups in front of us. We brought it to their attention and they said they didn't think the tables would be big enough. The waitress was very fast and attentive. The food was not good. I got pizza thinking you can't mess that up. It was bad. My friends got the veggie burger which they also didn't like.
