Omg. What happened? We ended up here because the place we wanted to eat was closed for the week with no warning, and it was 7 PM on a Wednesday. Poutine had mushrooms and fresh cut fries for $11. It came out and looked fantastic. It wasn't. It had NO flavor. The mushrooms were not seasoned, the fries were not seasoned, the gravy was beautiful, but flavorless. After salting and peppering it several times my husband finally covered it with ketchup. (He also mentioned that if an actual Canadian saw it they would actually get angry for the first time in documented history.) I ordered the seafood roll. It was supposed to be shrimp, langostines, and crab. It tasted like tuna salad with a few shrimp. It was very fishy. I returned it, and they removed it from the bill, but not the price of the side. (Sweet potato fries for $3 with no dipping sauce.) My husband got a pizza with goat cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, and greens. How this had no flavor is seriously beyond me. The onions were definitely not properly done, and it just went downhill from there. All I can imagine is that this chef does not taste the food before it leaves the kitchen. Lunch on Memorial Day Sunday while passing through on a road trip. Sat in the front window with a really nice waitress who couldn't recommend a beer because she was under age. Got to give her credit for sticking to her story. She made us smile. I had the Poutine, while Joni had the roasted Brussels sprouts. The Poutine gravy was a wine reduction with mushrooms. It was generously applied to some excellent fries along with cheese chunks and bacon. Maybe not classic Poutine, but pretty darned good. Joni thought her sprouts should have been cooked a little more, but we disagree. The chunks of prosciutto mixed in were a great touch. The next time we're in the area, we'll be back. read more

We were drawn to this restaurant during our stay in Watkins glen due to the unique menu items and vegetarian options. We ordered cauliflower tacos, which were delicious, Mac and cheese which was just okay, the Pueblo Bowl which was good but not great, and the fish tacos which were very good. I asked about some of the local wines. The bartender/waitress didn't know much about any of them so I just chose one. It was a gamble and I'm afraid I lost which was a bit disappointing. The restaurant was very short staffed as a result of COVID. The staff was clearly exhausted and over-worked but they never stopped and never complained even though one of them was in visible pain. We would go back if ever in Watkins Glen again. I'll be dreaming about the cauliflower tacos until next time! read more

I have never wanted to walk out of a restaurant so much in the first 15 minutes as I did at the Wildflower Cafe. First, there was the 10 minutes at the table waiting for someone to greet us, while four or five staff stood around the bar jawing about who knows what. When I finally got their attention and asked if someone could take our drink order, we were told there was a "mix up on who's turn it was for the next table." Even better, when we inquired about a wine list we were told they had one "but it's super out of date and we only have like four of the 25 on there." I actually had to look away from the waitress while she was telling us the specials because I was laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. I thought for sure we were in for a rough night. Then everything changed and WC mustered one of the most monumental turnarounds I've ever experienced. How? Let me count the ways. 1) The waitress was so extremely apologetic as to be embarrassed. 2) Our drinks were volunteered as complimentary, before we even received them. 3) The Summer Sky Hefeweizen from the associated Rooster Fish Brewery tasted like delicious banana bread. 4) The sweet potato fries were as addictive as Schedule III drugs. 5) The corn fritters remind me of little fried clouds, if clouds had corn. 6) The homemade kettle chips are the business. 7) The little things, like the braised sweet and sour red cabbage on the Bauernwurst Sausage and the sharp cheddar on the Bacon Cheddar Burger and the fennel in the Classic Mussel-Ale Bowl turned the meal up to 11. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this place was. Not only did I get one of the best beers I've had with the Nut Brown Beer, but I had a delicious burger as well! The menu is quite large, and I was RAVISHED, so it was hard to decide considering everything looked good! I went with the crowd and ordered up my own burger, the Rooster Burger, which is their signature plain old cheeseburger. What made that cheeseburger was the white sharp cheddar cheese on it. Seriously, that cheese was killer! It made me wolf down that burger like no other... well, that and the hunger! The fires were crispy and the beer was flowing, so that made me a happy camper! Stopped in here for some lunch before we shopped in downtown Watkins Glen, and we were not disappointed. The food was very good. Everyone in my party of five like their dish. We had burgers, fries, mussels, and a wrap, all of which were well pretty done. The red curry mussels were especially delicious. The only issue with food we had was that the pico de gallo on the chicken avocado wrap was really watery and ended up rendering the tortilla pretty mushy and unappetizing, but I wasn't really in it for the tortilla anyways. The filling was really good by itself. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that service could be a little slow. Drinks would be sitting empty for quite some time, and it could be a little hard to flag down our server. That being said, I think our server was working really hard and was super nice, he was just stretched a little too thin. He was seating, serving several tables, and pouring drinks. That's a lot for one human to do. Also, there was a very mean lady at the table next to us, and he handled her complaining like a champ. Went here for a late lunch after hiking WG state park. Unfortunately, the menu they have posted online is their full menu, and they're only doing a "limited menu." Also, be prepared for them to tell you that they've run out of whatever you order. Good beers (the 2x IPA and Firehouse Blonde Ale were both better thane expected), and pretty good food (I had the steak tacos). Seared scallop app was tiny (3 scallops for $13) but tasty. The SO had a good time sipping her squash/zucchini soup. Overall, a very solid option, and you can stumble back to your B&B blocks away. There's entertainment in the evenings, so check the schedule. I loved the cocoa porter, nice dark, tasty with a subtle hint of cocoa to it! It makes perfect beverage to pair it with a burger! The food is here great too, I'd have to say the pizza is definitely the way to go here! There small 11 inch pies that are the perfect size to eat all on your own! Great place, cool location and a awesome place to stop for lunch or dinner after or during your trip through the wine and beer trails! We loved it here! We headed here after some wine tasting on Seneca before hiking The Glen. Cute little street. I had the BBQ seitan tacos which were amazing! And HUGE! They came with three and a side! I got the summer chickpea salad which was also delish. We sampled beers. $3 a pour. Pumpkin was great. And the original nut brown was a favorite too. We wound up walking down to the brewery to buy our growlers to take home as gifts. They sell them There but we just wanted to see what was going on down the street. Hubs got a burger he really liked with a side of yummy sweet potato fries. We sent my parents here when they headed up to The Finger Lake and they liked what they had too. Mom had a shrimp po boy with the homemade chips and my Dad had a burger. Both were very pleased. Not much to the place as far as decor but we did see they have live music too. Very cool. Asked if they had any bottles and was told yeungling and guiness. Took forever to get service. Food took about an hour. Paid 19 dollars for a Mexican Pueblo bowl without meat. Don't worry, I got the last of the lettuce. They had to tell new customers they were out of lettuce. When you walk in there's a sign "waits can be expected due to staffing issues" which is understandable. It's too bad we weren't there for their beer, or I would've left a good review for the Rooster Fish Brewery, operating within the same space. Our server and service was great. The food really ruined it. We ordered the Rooster Burger and the Portobello Burger with regular and sweet potato fries. The beef burger was under-seasoned. But the main problem that I had with it was the malt rolls as burger buns. Instead of light, fluffy, buttered, and grilled, these rolls were dense, chewy, and cold. The dense roll fought with the burger with every bite. The balsamic mushroom burger had better flavors but they used the same rolls. To be fair, my wife liked the rolls. My fault though. They did say malt rolls in the descriptions and I didn't know what the rolls were like. The sweet potato fries we good. Nothing spectacular. So go there for the beer and maybe snack on fries and wings. And maybe try something without malt rolls. read more
