The Roostertail is not only a beautiful venue with an amazing view, but their team there is fantastic! Plus, the food was delicious!!

Attended an event here for WSU medical grads and had a great time. The place is right on the water and if you look up from your table, you could very easily be looking at the Ambassador Bridge or the Ren Cen. It really does have quite an enjoyable view. They did a fair job of being timely and not overbearing when it came to waitstaff. Food was some of the better catering jobs I've had and drinks were a bit steep to purchase but we had tickets so the prices didn't really apply. I'll agree with Lisa N. in that this place does very much feel "catered" but few, if any, prom and wedding reception locations manage to dodge that sensation. Simply put, the event seems catered because it is. I can't say squat about the pricing on renting the hall or anything like that because I simply don't know. As such, I can't really determine the value on the good time I had. I can only say that I enjoyed myself here and the staff were very professional. read more

I'm giving the Detroit Roostertail only a three-star rating. Although the Roostertail is very asthetically pleasing, and the food wasn't too bad, I attended (of all things ... get this) a Christmas Party for the Detroit Police Homocide division a couple of years ago. Although I had a wonderful time, when the event was over and valet returned my car, I discovered my wheel covers missing ... off my brand new car. (Too bad all the police officers were inside partying.) The truly baffling part ... my car was parked in viewing distance from the valet attendants, yet no one (not a single attendant) noticed any unscrupulous activity in their parking lot. Even more baffling is that security was patrolling the lot all evening. (Okay, maybe they were actually hitting the bottle all evening.) My only recommendation ... if you have a nice car and plan on attending any events at the Roostertail, I would first suggest renting a hooptie. Unfortunately, I have no plans on returning, particularly after how I was treated by the management staff in an effort to resolve this problem. Needless to say, the management staff was non-empathetic and very unprofessionali in handling this matter. I hope this review served you well. read more

We got married at the RoosterTail over Labor Day weekend and actually hosted two events over two days at the venue. We were extremely happy with the venue and more importantly with Shawna and her team's service. We used both the upstairs and downstairs of the venue indoors as well as the dock area outdoors. Shawna was extremely flexible in the setup across the different locations. While our food was catered from elsewhere, the bar service was smooth and prompt. Despite us having 300 guests in attendance, the venue was able to service all smoothly. The venue itself is beautiful. At night, they put on colorful lights on the outside of venue. They also have water fountains that run through out in the background. Very scenic! The RoosterTail also creates personalized Snapchat filter's for your event for guests to use! We highly recommend using the RoosterTail for your future event. read more

I paid $250.00 a ticket for the hydro plane races, Had a huge pillar in front of me so couldnt even see the race! Food was horrible and had only 1 cook at the buffet so lines were long. Charged $10.00 for mixed drinks in a tiny cup! When we complained they just put us off. worst customer service and we will never be back!!! read more

I worked an event there for the Boat Races and they still haven't paid me fully. They keep giving me the run around then eventually said they weren't going to pay me. They paid most of my wages but they still owe $30. You think a place that charges an arm and a leg for brunch could afford to pay what they owe but I guess not. Thinking about going to small claims court about this. I know it's only $30 bucks but it's the principle. Believe me Roostertail I have a lot of time to prove my point!!!! read more

We experienced some communication issues with our first few wedding coordinators but then we met Bridget and she was fantastic. Bridget assured us she would handle everything and she could not have done a better job. She worked with our other vendors to make sure they had everything they needed and she even went to every person to make notes of their food selection to make the dinner service faster. Every single detail of the night was perfect and we are completely certain that if there had been a problem, Bridget would have fixed it. The room was absolutely beautiful. We felt like we had two receptions. The first half of the evening was light and the views through the windows were fantastic. That view was a large part of the reason we booked Roostertail. After watching a beautiful sunset the second half of our night began. The lights in the room are unlike anything we have ever seen at a wedding venue. The blue leds lights throughout the room with band playing in front of the colored fountains looked incredible. The food was excellent and Chef Paul went around to our guests to make sure they were happy. Many of our guests told us they appreciated this and we agreed that it was yet another classy detail in a superbly executed evening. Tom, the owner, was present wearing our wedding colors as well. June 19th 2015 was the greatest night of our lives and cannot we imagine having had our wedding anywhere else. read more

My husband, Andy, and I just had our wedding reception at the Roostertail... and it was perfect! From the rising dance floor and water fountains during our first dance to the delicious food and drinks, it was amazing! With all the decisions that go into planning a wedding, it was also really great to be able to choose from their extensive linens and center piece selections (included with the use of the venue). More importantly, we cannot thank Shawna, our wedding coordinator, enough for making our wedding everything we wanted it to be! She was incredibly responsive and helpful throughout the entire planning process and really made us feel special on our big day! Beautiful venue with fantastic views and location. I cannot express how responsive the staff was over the past 8 months that I worked with them on my fundraising event. Nicole, Director of Sales, was spot-on in every aspect and was onsite the entire night of the event communicating with me in real time. Attended an event here not too long ago and was very disappointed. I had several issues with one of the female bartenders who was so sure she knew everything, including what is not good to drink, even though it is something I like. and she refused to serve it to me. Then when I went to management Shawna was very rude and took the bartenders side when she was in the wrong. People pay big money to hold events here so having rude and unperson-able staff is just uncalled for! read more

My wedding was at the Roostertail 8-22-2015 and it was out of this world. Shawna went above and beyond for us. She never told us no. She aims to please. Everything went perfect as planned. Darnesha has been an absolute wonder to work with to hold our event. Engaged this venue for my December 3, 2016 holiday party. Never ever again. I have hosted holiday parties for over twenty years in and around Detroit and this was by far in it's own category the worst. Cold, cold meatball appetizers, can you imagine popping on to those in your mouth. Boxed scalloped potatoes (really !!) for over $25,000 plus, over all food quality was so disappointing and the servers were completely disorganized - and to top it off Tom S. was right there at my event just letting it happen with no apologies. You have a beautiful view and a fountain but those alone will not bring repeat business. Called in after the event and spoke with Shawna to voice my concerns and she actually confirmed that they had several issues that night and said thanks for the feedback. Well to this day I have not received anything towards a credit, an oh my we are so sorry can we do anything or anything in good faith. Go else where in Detroit. There are so many other venues to spend your money, actually get your money's worth and support the city. Check this one off your list. read more

I seriously just signed up on yelp, just to write a review for the Roostertail!! Back in August of 2013, I remember my fiancé telling me that we should start looking at some reception halls since we wanted to get married the following year! Roostertail was the first place we decided to check out. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Shawna a.k.a my angel sent from heaven. lol... She first showed us the reception hall downstairs and then took us upstairs too show us the second hall..what can i say, It was love at first site. My breath was seriously taken away from how beautiful the room is and the spectacular view!!! Shawna has been nothing short of amazing to me! From the moment my now-husband and I walked into the Roostertail, we loved it. One of my requirements was that I wanted a venue with windows and a view and boy did the Roostertail have a view!! It was the first venue we visited after getting engaged. My husband set up a meeting with Erica to get a tour. She showed us around and then sat us down to discuss to show us pictures of the rooms with different decor. She also showed us all the centerpieces, linens and napkins that are provided at no extra cost. That was another thing we loved; they don't nickel and dime you like a lot venues. After we visited 4 or 5 other places, we decided that we would only be happy with the Roostertail and it was the most cost-effective when we looked into how much it would to hire out the decor. Throughout the whole wedding process, Erica was so helpful. She was also very timely in her responses and answered any questions that we had. Even though she got married a week before us, she still met with us the week of her wedding to discuss all of our last minute details. On the day of wedding, I walked into the Marine Room and it was decorated perfectly. It was everything that we talked about. It was phenomenal. It looked gorgeous. Erica rounded up the bridal party and came back to get me to go to the ceremony on the side porch. She did a great job at getting the bridal party and immediate family away from the guests to take pictures right away. As we were taking pictures, she brought up hors d'oeuvres and beer. The bridal party really appreciated this!! I even had a meatball and the bruschetta. Both were delicious! Before we had our grand entrance, Erica explained to everyone the path they should take when they make their entrance. After my husband and I made our entrance, Erica asked us what we wanted to drink and brought it to us at our table. We had the buffet and went with the pork picante, stuffed chicken with cherries jubilee and the breaded whitefish. Everything was outstanding!! I was too excited to eat a lot, but I couldn't stop eating the stuffed chicken. So good! It was the most perfect night ever. Guests kept telling me that it was the best wedding they've ever been to. There are so many wow factors to the Roostertail, from the fountains, to the dance floor raising to just the view. Everyone was very impressed with the wedding. At the end of the wedding, Davis helped us collect our stuff and the staff would let us know when they found things that we may want. The staff was very nice and very helpful. I recently was the Maid of Honor in my Best Friend's Wedding. I have to say that the service provided here was beyond exceptional. Shawna was the wedding planner, and she was not only the most helpful, patient, and understanding woman I've ever met, she was funny, accommodating and patient. Have I mentioned that she was exceptionally patient?! I have to emphasize her patience. The definition of Patience is: the ability to endure a long wait calmly or deal with annoying problems without frustration... Shawna was an angel. Any issue that came up; transportation, timing, dress issues, attitudes, empty wine glasses...you name it, Shawna had it covered. I am so glad that she came into our lives. We planned our wedding at the Roostertail within four months of the date. When it came down to it, Chef Pauly helped seal the deal for us to choose the Roostertail. We chose to do strolling dinner stations and met personally with Chef Pauly and he created beautiful, delicious stations that our guests are still raving about!!! He is willing to create any dishes you want and definitely delivers! Although there were a few little issues the day of the wedding, the event went on almost seamlessly. The room looked amazing. We rented the upstairs with 230 guests, dinner stations, and band. There was plenty of space for socializing and dancing. The decorations were gorgeous between the back lighting, upgraded linens, outside fountain, and twinkle lights lighting up the ceiling. We were very pleased with this venue and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful, unique setting for their special event. Glogee3 Don't use the valet parking at the Roostertail. They couldn't find my car for over 15 minutes. They had the wrong color for my car which is black and they had it gray. We were among the first guests to arrive. No one was there. I just filled my car up before arriving at the function. When I got my car back 1/4 of a tank had been used. When one uses the valet parking beware. When I looked at the keys in the shed my key was not there. Everyone was ignoring me. Finally my car turned up. The food was good read more

I have attended the Detroit Derby Brunch at the Roostertail the past 3 years. This would have been my fourth year but Covid happened. The event was moved to September. Labor day weekend to be exact. I tried to get a refund since this was not a good date for us and was told no funds were available to refund. Fast forward to now and I am being told by the event organizer that she paid 30k to this venue to host the event for 400 people. The venue is now stating that due to current conditions they can only host 100 and credit the organization for a future event that no monies will be refunded. They have over 30k and refuse to refund the money but are not able to do the duties outlined in the original event. On top of this the venue which claims they are navigating in this new world and trying to accommodate people booked fairly, they obtained tax payer funded loans under the Cares Act. Shame on them refusing to give back money for an event they can't provide. read more

Ok, I will give you thee most honest opinion I have. My wife and I just got married last night 05/01/10 went through 7 months of planning making sure everything was perfect for our big day. We personally were working with a girl there by the name of Shawna. Now Shawna, promised us the world, question is did she follow through. I'll explain: When we were signing our contract with the roostertail, we asked. To be able to try the food, we were told by the roostertail, Shawna mainly that they do not do that cause their chef is a very good chef, I wanna say they used the term accredited or something, so we said fine. Don't buy that crap, the food at best was resturante 3 star, the chicken was bland. So let's talk about our so called wedding coordinator, Shawna. Shawna talks a good game, like she cares and makes u feel all warm about the place. She tells us yes I will be there to coordinate everything, from the cake cutting, to the wedding party. Ok, I'm happy about that. Wedding comes, shawna is there and as the ceremony is STARTING she says ok go and walks away. Personally at the time I seen no prob with that really until now, because it wasn't till dinner. The roostertail served salads, and there was such an exceptionally long gap between salads to dinner that everyone started to get up and walk around. In light of this I went looking. For Shawna.... Shawna is no where to be found. So I ask a few of the waiters, and to no evail, I am told Shawna has left for the night! Really? Really did that rude lazy women leave without being courteous enough to say, sorry guys I know that I specifically told u I will be there all evening, however, I can not stay for the evening and I put someone in charge his name is so and so. NO! This just LEAVES!! So here is my review for the Detroit, Roostertail. While it has been around a long time, and it is undoubtably on the water with a beautiful view, the service and i.e "WEDDING COORDINATOR" IS absolutely terrible!! The service is at best 3 star, however their quiant little lies if service from Shawna who promises u the world, are less then satisfactory. So the question is: Are u gonna pay 15 or 20, 30 even 40gs for this place.... ABSOLUTELY NO! If that is what u wanna pay for terrible service and a beautiful view, where u feel like Ur not important to them and they just want to get u out for the night, then so be it. Take my honest review into consideration before booking a venue here. There are a lot of gorgeous places out there that u can find that will have better service, and let's be honest a little cheaper! read more

My husband and I attended an event here in June 2016. I must say the views are breathtaking! You feel like you're not in Detroit! The space is in a great waterfront location and it helps being surrounded by windows to see it all. There is a beautiful water fountain show just behind the stage and focal point of the ballroom. They had an open bar and served hot hors d'oeuvres, as well as different cheeses with crackers. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The history of the Roostertail will always be intriguing, however, they need some updating. The decor is dated and looks worn out and old. I remember our high school prom being held here in 2005; the ballroom looks the same! The chandeliers are old and scattered throughout the ballroom. If they spent some money and updated this place, there is no doubt they could reel in more business and events. I love being here, I just wished it was updated and professionally decorated. read more

What a great venue! We held a summer wedding in the Marine Room that was absolutely stunning. We had a Cirque du Soleil theme with eight live aerial, fire and acrobatic performers and the staff made it all go off without a hitch. The food and drinks were awesome, the pricing was great, and the decor was unrivaled. We hand tons of guests say it was hands down the best wedding they'd ever been to or seen. We'll definitely hold another event there in the future. read more

I have actually frequented the Roostertail a few times in my hey-day for various high school events (proms, homecomings, etc). It was always a treat to come out this way because it is right off the water and semi-isolated from the hoopla of downtown Detroit. Inside it's lovely, with a large banquet area that can either host many tables or a dance floor if needed. I agree with Lisa about the food. It wasn't extraordinary and perhaps a little overpriced for what it was. However at that time, it was really about the ambiance and the people around that made it a good time. read more

We went to a whiskey tasting event here last weekend and it was incredible. The event was very well run and venue looked beautiful. The food was good and there were so many local and national distilleries on hand it was difficult to decide which on was my favorite but Motor City Gas and Rusted Crow were top 2. My wife isn't much of a whiskey drinker so she was so excited to see Michigan Craft beers on hand as well. The event was kind of casual but still dressy so it was a nice night out. We've never been to the Rooster Tail before but we will definitely go to any event they have there in the future. The employees were very friendly and courteous and the place is absolutely incredible. If you have a chance to go to an event here is would recommend It and if you're looking for a place to host an event you can not go wrong with the Roostertail. I'll be recommending it as the venue for our annual awards banquet next year. read more

I went to RoosterTail for 2017 Fireworks on 6/26/17. Upon arriving I was given GA tickets from associates and was pleased at the display and food trucks assembled. Not too long I learned that there was a VIP area affording you more as well as secondary fireworks display, not to mention it was dropping in temperatures and threat of rain, so I wanted my fiancé to be okay and upgraded my tickets for $120.00 each. Upon returning I left my necklace badge for VIP but had the VIP bracelet on, as I was assisting colleagues in upgrading their seats as well, and security was a bit adversarial and in turn angered me yet as a saving grace angel, a woman named Shawna ( never got her actual title yet she said she has been with RoosterTail 19 years) overheard the commotion and stepped in and made sure we were fine and personally took care of us. Kudos to her she was a sweetheart and in addition to ambiance and fireworks, made it a great evening and recommended. Minor point of contention is for $120.00 per person, better food options i.e., carving table might be an improvement. And would consider it for my own wedding. Phillip read more

Every since my high school prom, I knew that the Roostertail would be the place to host my wedding. And I must day, this was the best choice we could've made. My wedding was an absolute dream! Erica really made our day special. I'm a perfectionist, and it was very difficult for me to trust leaving everything in someone else hands. But Erica was very patient and very understanding to my needs. She knew how important this day was for us and it reflected in the set up, the small details and touches, just the overall experience. My guests and I had a great time and I really didn't have to worry about anything. My only complaint, is that I wish they allowed shots at the bar. I'm one of those girls that love tequila shots, and this apparently is against policy (this rule should really change, hint hint). Other than that, this was a perfect and magical night. I really love how Erica took care of everything but still allowed me to have control of the night in my own way. She definitely became someone I value as a friend! LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

Planning a wedding is probably one of the most stressful times of your life, if not THE most stressful time. With that being said, the Roostertail is without a doubt, hands down, the best place to have a wedding! After seeing photos and hearing nothing but praise from people, we decided to contact the Roostertail and check things out. After receiving a pricing packet, I initially thought it would be out of my price range. However, after visiting other venues and pricing things out, I still couldn't get the idea of the Roostertail out of my mind and decided I needed to visit myself. To be totally honest, my parents and I definitely had no intention of booking that day, but after our first visit we were hooked. Both my parents and I were blown away and knew that we would make this venue fit into our budget. As soon as we arrived that first day and met Shawna, I knew the Roostertail was something special. After visiting several venues, I never felt a connection or that "wow" factor, which is something I think every bride wants to feel about her wedding. With Shawna, I immediately felt a connection and in a very genuine way. Needless to say, once we left both my parents and I knew we had to book there and never once were we disappointed with our decision. Right from the beginning, Shawna gained our trust and never let us down. She had a realness to her that is very hard to find in the wedding business. I never felt pressured or judged, and I valued her opinion and trusted her decisions to make my wedding perfect. It was refreshing how easy she was to work with through the whole process, as not all of my wedding vendors were easy by any means to work with! It was also refreshing to have an honest wedding vendor, who really cared about our wants and needs. I never once felt like she was just trying to "sell me something" or pressure me to "upgrade", a rare quality that we immediately noticed and loved about Shawna. Several weeks before our wedding, my mom and I were to meet with Shawna to pick out our food choices. Unfortunately, she had a death in the family and had to quickly leave the state. If we had looked at our phones, we would have noticed the missed calls from the Roostertail and would have rescheduled the meeting....But we didn't, and in we headed, excited to make some important decisions for our upcoming big day. When we left that meeting, I didn't feel the same reassurance I had always felt when working with Shawna, and I actually was feeling stressed, something I NEVER had to feel when working with Shawna. At that moment, I knew how valuable of an asset Shawna is to the Roostertail and how lucky I had been to have her help with our wedding. In the Roostertail's defense, every employee we had ever worked with was always professional and courteous, but not everyone has that sparkle like Shawna. I remember telling my mom that day after the meeting wihout Shawna, that if I had not met Shawna that very first time we went to the Roostertail, I don't know if I would have felt so inclined to book there. I hate to be cliche, but our wedding was perfect and everything we had hoped for! I know that it is all because of Shawna and her hard work. After having the wedding of my dreams, my best advice I could give any bride is to try and enjoy the planning process and try not to stress. Believe me, I know how hard that is, but after just going through it myself, I know the only way to accomplish this is to book at the Roostertail and ask for Shawna! read more

The Roostertail catered a recent party for the Grosse Pointe Park Foundation at Patterson Park. It was over the top. Our coordinator Shawna made an outdoor party for 215 guests a dream. The food was fabulous, the guests raved about the quality of the food and the presentation and the professionalism of the staff. A tough job in a park for the residents and they excelled. Thank you Shawna and the Roostertail. I would use them at a party in my home anytime. read more

I went for a company Christmas party. First the good news, the physical venue is very nice with beautiful views and decor. Now the bad news, the food and service were sorely lacking. The food was bland. The best part was the salad. The potatoes were undercooked. They ran out of items even though MANY people that RSVP'ed didn't show. I heard many people making comments about being underwhelmed by the food. The service was poor, 1 star. Looking at our table and seeing people with 4 empty drink glasses and multiple plates waiting to be picked up was disappointing. That was all night and not at just our table. The dinner was buffet style so clearing tables was a main function of the staff and they failed. The place settings on the tables were cramped so this was very unacceptable. Was never offered coffee after dinner. I was excited to go to this party based on what I had read about the Roostertail. I was disappointed with everything but the building, decor and views. This business will go into the same decline the Roostertail has had in the past if they do not improve their service and food to match their building. Everyone at our table was disappointed. If I had paid the very high cost I'm sure my company paid for this party, I'd be upset.Maybe Sinbad's would have been better? I know a previous company party at Red Lobster was. read more
