The workers are very rude and unwelcoming. The service was not like this in my last encounter, but it seems to have completely downgraded. Apparently there's a policy on if you don't purchase anything you cannot stay in the establishment, which in my opinion is completely reasonable if communicated. However, that wasn't the case with my friends and I. I have previously visited this establishment but it was a while ago, so we were taking time to decide what we wanted to purchase. Instead of respectfully communicating this policy to us, there was a worker with striped hair and glasses who started yelling at us and cursing at us, telling us that we needed to and I quote, "get the fuck out of his restaurant". This could've been an easily resolvable situation given that there seems to have just been a communication barrier where he assumed that we were not going to make any purchases, when in reality, we were just trying to make a decision of what we were wanting to purchase. However, his aggressive approach was, and still remains highly inappropriate. He immediately assumed that we weren't there for business. It was an extremely aggressive encounter and we are very disappointed by it. His behavior made the ambience in there feel very unwelcoming. So if you were thinking of trying this place out. Save your money for somewhere where customer service is actually up to par. if you're going to pay for an overpriced and average beverage, you might as well be treated kindly for it. read more

Root Down Jax was a funky cool spot! I was told before arriving they had wonderful sangria, and my friend did not lie! I ordered the white sangria, which I highly recommend. I'm not sure if it was happy hour prices, but it was only $5 per glass, which was a steal in this economy. Several friends ordered the red sangria and loved it. I tasted it and liked it, but I prefer the white. The bartender was friendly, and the space was lovely. There was also a huge projector showing the Jags game on the wall behind the bar. Decided to hang around a bit with my friends after the Yelpies '22 so we went down to Root Down for some drinks. Well, one drink. This place is so airy and open, not to mention all white. Plenty of seating with more outside in the back where there's another bar, but it wasn't in use at the time. A friend and I commented about how the vines in the back accented the area and how it was a nice touch. Most likely because it was a Sunday they were not busy at all. The Jags game was on but only a few people watching it. I ordered a red sangria and it's probably one of the best I've had. It was topped with champagne so it wasn't too sweet, just a nice hint with the tree branch of rosemary in it. I really like rosemary and smelling it while sippin' was delightful. Perfect stop for a refreshing drink for my 1st visit to to SunRay Cinema next door. The (NA) Craft lemonade was very good and I'll definitely order again on my return visit. What a cool place in 5 points. From the outside it looks like not much and even on inside the decor is minimalist all white and some green plants. It was also arctic cold inside, the bartender told me it was to prep for the "silent disco" that would be happening later that night and it would be busy so needed to lower temp. I hope it worked because by time we had 2 drinks I needed to leave because I needed a parka to stay. Hat being said the music was good and the drinks were delicious! There are some really unique ingredients that you wouldn't think it would be in a cocktail but we loved everything. Definitely need to come back and try more...but bring a jacket if Friday or Saturday nights haha read more

They will refuse you service if you don't tip even though tipping is an optional thing but they Berated me call you an asshole and refuse service me. I went with a group of 10 people all of them either didn't tip or only tip once and were able to purchase more than 5 drinks a piece. Very unprofessional, I spoke to the manager and he said that's how his staff makes a living. Maybe pay your people more. The female bathroom was not attended to ran out of toilet paper and paper towels, there was no ac and there was blood on the doors. read more

My husband and I recently stopped by this bar while walking around Five Points one Saturday afternoon. He tried a couple local brews from their extensive list of beers and ciders in draft, while I opted to try their sangria. I'm very picky when it comes to sangria, but they hit a home run with this one. It's very fruity without crossing the line of being too sweet. The atmosphere was pretty quiet and laid back since we'd arrived mid to late afternoon, but more people started coming in around the time we were leaving. I saw ads for a silent disco at the bar, which sounds interesting, and their patio out back looked very pretty with lush vines along the wall. Would probably be a nice spot to grab a drink after dinner in the Five Points/ Riverside area on a nice summer night. read more

They've been here for five years now. Where is the signage?! I really liked this spacious wonderful place. The young lady running the bar tried to get us to purchase the sangria. I asked if I could taste both flavors. Yuck! No thank you. Tammy and I ended up ordering a nice glass of wine. I love the spaciousness of this place. Plenty of room for all. There bathrooms were clean, they had chairs in the bathroom In case you needed to rest for a minute. They had a back patio outdoors. There was a wonderful gardenia garden above your head as you enter to the outdoors. It smelled so good! I loved the disco ball and the lighting moving on the wall. I loved all of the candles on every table. The only minus is with high ceilings, everything echos. There was a loud group at the table behind us. I look forward to returning here again soon. We always go here just to chill out and sip on Red Sangria's. We usually sit at the bar and listen to music while watching Netflix thats being displayed high on the wall behind the bar. You never know what kind of music or what's you'll see or hear when you are here. The bartenders are quick and friendly. It's just a cool vibe here. Bathroom is clean . Obviously I hate to knock down another star, but I'm 0-3 in my attempts at Root Down. The issues I addressed in my previous review seem to be typical day-to-day operations here. It's as if they're content with only serving the patrons who are already sitting at the bar, and anyone else who walks in gets the cold shoulder. I brought in a large group for drinks before dinner in 5 Points. And yet again, there was one bartender. All he had to say to make the situation right was, "Hey guys, I'm a little backed up now. I'll be with you as soon as I can." Instead, no acknowledgment whatsoever. There was another individual behind the bar and to be honest, I had no clue what his purpose was. He kept running from behind the bar, onto the floor, back again, etc. His only accomplishment was increasing the music volume to a deafening roar. After 10 painstaking minutes of waiting to order, I gave the executive decision for us to pack our knives and go. Basic math: 8 people, 2 drinks a piece, plus tip? That could've easily been $100 transaction. Unfortunately, we had to take our business elsewhere. read more

We stopped here for drinks after eating lunch at Hawkers one weekend. We were just looking for a chill place to have a cocktail and beer and stumbled up on Root. It's been here for about 8 years, but I've never even paid attention to it. The ambiance is pretty simple. It's a big open space with a long bar. There's outside seating as well out back. But, what makes this place 5 stars? That would be the amazing selection of craft beer and Charlie's, the amazing bartender, ability to whip up any cocktail you may want with respect to beer and wines. They don't have hard liquor here, but don't let that dissuade you from going! We throughly enjoyed our chill afternoon here and we go back often now to hang with Charlie and try the selection of beer and new cocktails on the menu! Great place! The atmosphere is bright and talk about clean bar lines all the way from the bar on the far left down to other end - the selection of cocktails, champagnes and local & out of state draft beers is pretty impressive! Lots of great choices and I was supremely pleased that Root Down had tapped a keg of my ever tasty Coppertail Free Dive IPA...delish! Great atmosphere, Service is excellent and I appreciated that the barkeep let me sample 3-4 beers before I wandered to the "far side" of the bar and gazed upon the second set of draft pulls and saw my "beloved" Coppertail!! They don't have a full menu but you may order a few snack selections. I've had the cheese plate and it was tasty. This bar, located next to the Sun Ray movie theatre, is spacious, fun, and trendy. There's the rub. Sometimes the bar staff becomes part of the trend. Everyone I've encountered is friendly but not always attentive. I sat at the bar and waited for my friend. The bartender was nice and attentive. I got the Cloak and Dagger. It was delicious and refreshing. When my friend arrived, she asked the bartender to surprise her and he did! He made her a Sake To Me which is crisp and refreshing. It was so good that I ordered one as well. I did not realize this place existed until I had a friend tell me about it. They do not have a sign over it, so it's one of those that you have to GPS or know where it is. I had time to kill before a Yelp event at Crane Ramen, so I met up with one of my Yelp friends, Ariel, and we decided to check it out! When you walk in, you immediately feel the coolness of the place, with white everywhere, making it an oasis from the hot Florida heat. It's a great place to relax and spend time with friends without it being too loud. I had heard about the champagne here, but I didn't realize they did champagne infused cocktails. I chose the pineapple, mango, cardamom infused champagne, and it was delicious! TIP: Rootdown is simply beer and wine-cocktail, no hard liquor. To me, RD is quintessential to the 5 Point neighborhood. If you walk too fast you might just miss this spot. There is no sign out front, just a wide open door with a large bay window and ear tingling music to invite you in. The concept here is simple: drink and chill. You can't beat $5 champagne (flavored or clean). Since RD don't serve food, my favorite thing to do is order tacos from Tacos Corner or noodles from Hawkers and bring it in. RD is dog friendly, bring your fur baby here but be warned, this place can get hectically loud. The ladies room has the BEST mirror for all your pictures. I have been to this business on multiple occasions. I really wanted to like them since some of my friends love this place, but I have yet to understand why. I walked in the door recently and the man serving said he was offended the moment I walked in. That literally sums up every moment I have had in this place. This bar is one of the weirdest bars I've ever been to, and that's saying something for 5 Points! The hubs and I came here one night before our movie started at Sun Ray, the bar didn't have a name back then (it was a work in progress). As soon as we walked in, there were people sitting on the couch playing Mario Kart, the wall had The Fast and the Furious playing, a disco ball spinning, and EDM playing in the background. There was a lot going on! Aside from Root Down's somewhat spastic atmosphere, the drinks are good, they're limited to beer, wine, and bubbles. I haven't had a bad drink yet. What I like most about Root Down is the outside area, it's a great open space that you can sit with your friends and chat while having a drink. I came once in a Saturday evening (11:30 pm) and on a Saturday afternoon. Saturday afternoon was slow and empty, but it was perfect to sit at the bar and mingle with friends. Also, there was a GREAT happy hour for sangrias and sherry. I would prefer coming here during the day instead of the evening. The space is beautiful with an awesome patio that has greenery climbing up the walls and the bar itself is smoke free! Onto the libations, some of the most innovative "cocktails" I have ever tried. It's beer and wine only but that doesn't stop them from making creative champagne/wine/beer cocktails. Every drink has so much thought and love put into it and the presentation is gorg! The beer list is full of tasty craft brews too! They definitely have something for everyone's tastebuds and the price is right.
