We were out running errands for the Jacksonville Fun, Eats & Drinks Facebook group and stopped in at Beer:30 - San Marco over in the heart of San Marco. We'd been here before but only once prior to a Michael Jackson event at Painting With A Twist nearby. First, let me say that I made my beer choice on name alone. It ended up being a great sour red though, so I'm not mad at it. Humor goes a long way with me though, so even if it wasn't great I would've dealt with it on name alone: Cherry Busey! We only hung out for a little bit (again, we need to get home for dinner) but it would he very easy to stay for longer. You can see from the photos that they have a ton...and I mean a ton of craft beers. In addition to that, they have a big room with lots of room to kick back. Our night was delayed shortly when my wife decided to take on one of those wooden barrel puzzle. You can see her dismay in the picture of us! We both took a crack at it for a while and never did solve it, but we eventually decided we needed to let it go. You win this time wooden barrel puzzle! One other thing to note is that there's parking behind it. So if you decide to go there, don't be intimidated by what looks like street only parking. With as much time as I've spent in these 4 walls over the past decade, I am remiss to not have a review up about Beer:30. Most who know me know that I am a craft beer aficionado and many (and I mean, MANY) of the craft beers that I've enjoyed are bought from or enjoyed within the confines of Beer:30. I love a great brewery as much as the next person, but as someone who loves to try out new and different beers that are not located in North Florida, the local bottleshops are my usual place to go. Beer:30's staff works incredibly hard to have a wide swath of options for any craft beer drinker. I am someone who enjoys all kinds of different beer, but who usually opts for something on the sour side of the house. Luckily, there's usually something in the fridge or on tap that fits the bill. Not to mention, how many prestigious selections from near opposite sides of the country that they are able to obtain through their distributors. Another great thing about bottleshops is that you can put together a mix-and-match 4-pack or 6-pack to take home with you. You can even get just one or two if you don't necessarily want an entire 6-pack. I will forewarn folks that some of the cans may seem a bit pricy, but it's the unfortunate side of the brew scene as a whole with the cost of aluminum and ingredients consistently going up. Beer:30's ownership changed hands not too long ago, but what I've appreciated in that changeover is the quality events and promotions. There's a silent reading hour every Tuesday, they are starting to host Diana Testa and her Italian Cooking Lessons, different fundraisers for local nonprofits, as well as beer collabs with local breweries. They've been hosting all sorts of cool arts and craft workshops, plant swaps, Beer:30 Day (on the 30th of the month), tap takeovers, and beer pairings (that Sundae Fundae with Left Hand Brewing & Mayday Ice Cream has been my fave so far). As always, Beer:30's anniversary parties are a can't miss! Due to my work schedule, there's been quite a few that I haven't been able to take part in, but I'm so happy to see their success. read more

I popped in a couple days ago and really enjoyed myself! So nice to have such a cool taproom in the area. Great vibes, friendly staff, affordable brews. They have an awesome broad and unique selection of beers on tap. They rotate on about a weekly basis, so there's always something new to look forward to. Apparently they frequently have food trucks. It's a bit of a bummer that none of the beers are staples, but that also adds to the excitement of the experience because you never know what's going to be on the menu! This is a great taproom, one of my favorites in Jax. Their tap selections are large and there is always something for everyone in our party...sours, darks, ipa's and many more. There is also a package store and I always leave with something for later. Once you enter, front or back, the bar is right there and that's where you place your order. The staff is friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. They have outside and inside seating. Occasionally they have food trucks and events to attend. With the guidance of the experts from Pinspiration and Beer: 30, it happened. On Thursday, I picked up my pre-ordered crafting kit from Beer: 30 without a hassle. After examining the items from the crafting kit on Friday before the virtual crafting session. I had a close encounter with a splinter from the wooden plank. Later, during the session, I discovered there was sandpaper missing from my kit but, thank God for improvisation. We discovered a nail filer was equivalent to sandpaper. Overall, I had a quick, easy, and amazing experience picking up my DIY 'Bottle Opener' Kit from BEER: 30. And, my kitchen is starting to look more local than ever. If I'd been more curious I could've gotten a few fruited crowlers to-go. But, definitely next time! read more

My husband and I planned to spend a day in San Marco so we wanted to try a few spots. We used Yelp to plan where we would go and Beer:30 got such great reviews that it was a no brainer to add it to the list. I am so glad we stopped by, it is more like a beer stop as they do not seem to brew there own beers. They do have sooo many beers, many of them tasty. I of course got a flight of the bartenders choice because I am easily overwhelmed by many choices. The bartender did not lead me in the wrong direction!!! He poured me four completely different beers and even though they were all four different they were all delicious! My personal favorite was the PB&J beer, it was incredible and may have taking the spot of my number one beer. It has a very unique taste but trust me at least sample it, I liked it so much that I bought a four pack to take home. Beer:30 lives up to it's craft beer emporium title and then some. These dudes are stocking the shelves with the best craft beer our nation has to offer. Six packs, singles, bombers, specialty releases, etc. If it's in season, they've got it! They're constantly rotating their draft selection, too. Amazing find in the middle of San Marco! If you are into craft and hard to find brews, this is the place for you. Along side a wide variety of beers on tap there are many beers in coolers that line the bar with only a $1 corkage fee applied. The staff are friendly and very knowledgeable about their product, as a beer rookie I felt very happy with the beers I chose and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed them! I'm not a beer fan at all but when my friends asked me to join them at Beer:30 and that they have other stuff besides beer, I said sure why not. I wasn't ready to go back home anyway. It's a few doors down from Painting with a Twist and right next door to Flame Broiler in case you get need to balance out the alcohol. The place is small but has a nice home-like feel to it. Everyone is pleasant, the staff, even the other beer lovers that come and go. My friends pointed me in the direction of the ciders that they had and man, I was good for the rest of the afternoon. HORRIBLE experience here tonight. I used to love this place but now would give it 0/10 stars. The bartender (a blonde female wearing a hat-didn't get her name) was disgustingly rude! She was drunk, and several beers in, spilling her drink at the bar and incredibly condescending. We ordered 2 alcoholic draft beers and one non alcoholic can ;pop open no effort). The alcohol totaled about $23 and we tipped $3 after not having a good experience at all. She then came to our table and was irate and nasty about not tipping enough. This is my favorite place to try new beers! They always have something great on tap, I loved the Swamphead Cherry pie sour! They also have a vast variety of beer to purchase, I have found a lot of beers to stock my fridge with- the huckleberry jam cider and the salted caramel porter to name a few! Been here a few times and each & every time, I plan on just getting what I came in for and leave.....yea, that plan hasn't work so far. The place and the cool, friendly people working here are so welcoming and hospitable that it's so hard to just come in, get your stuff and get out (at least for me and the beer peeps I've met in there). They have quite a few brews on tap and can sample each one if you like. The selection they have, on the shelves and inside the coolers, is impressive. Six packs, singles (bottle or can), 22oz bombers, limited releases, etc. If they happen to not have what you're looking for, let them know and they will do their best to get it for you. It's hit or miss in reference to being crowded but that's it. The beer list is always fantastic and the pourer always knows their stuff and is ready to make recommendations. I love craft beers and if you do too, join me at Beer 30!! They upload their draft list onto Untapped and TapHunter, making it far too tempting to pop in for "just one beer." Parking is tough depending on the time of day to come. You can drink and walk to European Street Cafe or make it a bar crawl and find your way to Taverna, Aardwolf, Grape and Grain, and Sidecar (another personal favorite). It's no secret I'm a huge Beer:30 fan (I am the proud duchess on Yelp of the Riverside location) I was so happy to hear the news of this amazing place opening another store, and when a Sweetwater event came up, it was the perfect excuse to cross the river to check it out. As always, craft beer lovers will rejoice in the selections, and even newbies can take delight in the excellent recommendations by a knowledgeable and friendly staff. I do like the small bar set up here, too. What is unique about the San Marco location, is that for the event, they blocked off some of the parking in the back, set up some tables, had some vendors out and had a cool little parking lot party! He can find just the right beer for you. They have more than 800 different styles and flavored of beers. The staff is outstanding and eager to help you find out what beer you like. They give samples. This space is a little tight compared to the Riverside location, but that's mainly because people like to come in and hang out at the bar. And there's nothing wrong with that! Love what they've got going on here and the tender of the bar is always on point with his recommendations of what to try. Was very excited to see Duck Rabbit here on a couple of occasions; discovered their existence in Disney World of all places and love keeping them stocked in the fridge. I found this small store to be very neat and presentable as I walked in for the first time, thanks to Allie A.'s suggestion, and different from the Riverside location. Warmly greeted and directed to the right area, I set about looking for a beer from Oskar Blues known as "Pinner" (IPA), which is apparently a slang term from Colorado for a small joint. In scanning the shelves and repeating the names of other mysterious ales to possibly remember the styles and tastes, the friendly staff was observing my process of collection. As I was preparing to leave, I spied a large keg from Duck-Rabbit, the dark beer specialists from eastern NC, in the walk-in section of the cold storage. Was it gray-market? Instantly wowed with memories of packing my car's trunk with cases of this beer to take to NY for my home brewer's club to enjoy, I found that it was available by the barrel only (for the moment). A barrel would be fine way to start, but I wanted more... Beer:30 proved to be an exceptional stop for good beer in San Marco. read more

I live around the corner from this small shop. If you didn't look for it, you might drive past it. They always have beer tastings and will send you Facebook invites for those events. Usually there are goodies being handed out, and I always try a brewery that I've never tried before. The workers are down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and happy to give you samples before a full beer.
