Atmosphere is inviting and relaxed. As soon as you walk in people are friendly and chatting with a warm cup of coffee. Our server Emily, had the bubbliest personality that contributed to our wonderful experience. The portions are plentiful and the food delicious I give this place 10 stars if I could. Highly recommended!

Breakfast Burrito - very garlicky, not my favorite

Great breakfast spot in Cottonwood Heights. The ambiance was perfect and service great. I LOVED the Huevos Rancheros. We also ordered the breakfast burrito - which was not great. Too garlicky and the eggs were sloppy. Overall - would be back!

This is a locally owned restaurant and it's pretty good. This restaurant opened 6 weeks before the pandemic, had to shut down during covid and is now trying to garner support again. I got the steak and frites with broccolini, the steak was cooked to perfection at medium rare. The fries were well seasoned but the steak and broccolini could have used more seasoning and the beignets for dessert were ok but not great. I was hoping they would be a little more dense

I was so excited to try Root'd Cafe. Our table tried the Brussel sprouts appetizer and they were very good. The balsamic salad was good. I loved the pistachios and goat cheese on it. I chose the steak & frites. The steak was tender and flavorful and cooked perfectly. I loved the fries with garlic aioli. The broccolini was fine but it needed more seasoning in my opinion. The beignets were decent but wish they were a little more dense. I also wish they were served with chocolate dipping sauce instead of jam but still good.

Root'd is always a great decision whenever I go out there for dinner. The salmon and quinoa pair perfectly together and I highly recommend there fries as well. Atmosphere is welcoming and cozy.

    Sweet Beet Tacos *amazing*

Came to this place after reviewing their menu and finding myself craving some of the items. I showed up on a weekday, around 3pm, as the only other customers in the place were leaving. I'm so glad they were open, despite obviously being slow! There was one lovely waitress, and sounded like just one cook prepping and making the food at that time. I had the prickly pear tea-lemonade, which was gorgeous and tasty, and the beet tacos. I'm not a vegetarian but they were my favorite thing I ate during my time in Utah! So good, I would (and will!) go back to try many more items on their menu!

My friend and I were very impressed with the layout of the restaurant. They had outdoor seating and we took it knowing it is fall and we could get chilled. But we didn't mind. That is what hot tea is for. The patio we sat in had painted murals on the brick work. It was very nice. We ordered the roasted brussels sprouts to whet our appetite. We were pleasantly whetted. ;) I tell you, they put the best roast on those sprouts, they were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and the crunch melt factor was spot on!! The portion of the appetizer was very generous but not overwhelming. I ordered the salmon with quinoa, and my bestie ordered the chicken over rice. From what I could see from our dining neighbors, the dishes at Root'd are down home, comfort food. (As they should be). Simple ingredients turned into audible happy "oh my gosh you gotta try this" comments, dancing chews in our mouths! The Salmon was perfectly cooked, the portion was very fair, with a generous helping of quinoa. The greens that were served as a complement to the meal enhanced the flavor that much more. I was served a half lemon that had been grilled to perfection. I have no problem eating a lemon peel especially when it has been grilled. The grilled lemon topped the salmon perfectly. My meal was so tasty, I ate it slow to savor all of the wonderful flavor. My bestie said the chicken was very good, not dry at all, the flavors were very savory, and the rice complemented the meal very well. She said the greens that were served with her meal also complemented the chicken very well. It also came with a roasted lemon and roasted tomatoes. She said it was very delicious. We selected the ever-famous Beignets for dessert. The were rolled thin, fried to fluffy perfection, topped with confectioners' sugar and served with raspberry sauce on the side. It was getting chilly now, the server, Emily, who was very effervescent, happy, friendly and helpful brought me a hot cup of chamomile tea. She was very nice, she spoke to everyone whom she encountered. She was very sweet and attentive. I believe a person who works hard serving a customer, deserves a generous tip. She was helpful with her co-workers and their customers. I base my tipping on those factors. She brought out a cup of hot tea. That first sip of the heated water cascaded down my throat and into my tummy and filled me with a warmth that I did not expect. It was a very soothing cup of tea. One I will make my way back to Root'd for, and a repeat of our wonderful dinner out. We plan to dine inside next time. Plus we will take our honey bunches and we plan to order completely different entrees as this time.

This is such a sweet restaurant. It's converted from a 7-11 but is adorable and it's fun they have a huge fridge. We started with an appetizer of deviled eggs which had the cutest little pickles on them and were very yummy. The salad had avocado and goat cheese which were nice additions. The steak was a bit chewy but also very pink. The chicken was cooked perfectly and had great seasonings. They make their sauces in house and I really enjoyed the garlic sauce they put on the fries. The servers were very kind and professional. I would love to come back and try their breakfast.

It's gotten so bad, we thought they changed hands. When manager Joey McDowel called, I told him we already decided not to return after being almost weekly customers for over a year. Food & service changed & are no longer good. He ignored me & said since we got 2 different pepperoni pizzas that were both missing pepperoni, they couldn't make us happy & we shouldn't bother going back! I had already made it clear that after our last visit, we had no intention of going back, so there was no need for his call, but he continued by threatening me with trespass if we ever go there again! WHO THE HELL TRAINED THIS INFANTILE BABY? He must be a relative, or he'd never have this job. He is not suited & too big for his tiny little britches. My husband is furious, he's going to corporate & the owners, he couldn't believe what he heard. We're in our 70's, our son is a classically trained chef who liked the pizza here until it wasn't good, my family owned bars & restaurants for years & my husband & I have eaten our way around the world twice but have never been insulted over a pizza. We know Skackwater puts pepperoni under the cheese, it's not rocket science or anything new, but when there is ZERO pepperoni, there is ZERO pepperoni. That's not our fault; it's the fault of Slackwater & managers like Joey who only make things worse. He has 0 people skills & his threatening demeanor is concerning. He was there for the 4-hour episode, where like criminals trying to prove our innocence, we had to rip off hunks of dough & hold them up to prove pizza #1 had only sauce, no cheese, then scrap the cheese off pizza #2 to prove there was no pepperoni underneath & that was after waiting almost 2 hours for them to arrive! After that Joey offered to comp the pizzas & admitted they were having problems in the kitchen. We declined remakes because my husband was waiting at home for his dinner, we were exhausted & just wanted to go. Joey forgot to put in the to-go pizza & we waited another hour for that! No comps, but we paid & left. The to-go pizza looked like a burnt hockey puck. I called & got yet ANOTHER manager who said she'd put a gift card at the front desk that would cover our food, alcohol & something extra for the time we spent, it should have been over $100. We waited 6 weeks & went back, but no gift card. Joey stupidly let it slip that they make so many gift cards for people who never come back that they throw them away every few weeks. That said it all for me! At our revisit, we spent over an hour being interrogated by another manager, she came back 3 times asking for details. We had no time to talk, eat or relax, at one point I told her to forget the gift card, it wasn't worth the hassle. I had spent time pulling up dates, texts & pictures for her & after 2 hours she disappeared & only left us a $50 gift card, 1/2 of what we spent! Bad business. I wasn't going to fight with these people; they make lame excuses & do what they want, so we paid & left. They have no idea how to run a restaurant & apparently don't know what repeat business is worth, which is sad, because people won't keep paying for poor service & bad food. Eventually the Herriman franchise will either change hands or go under. The final straw came Saturday. Against my better judgement after being called by family members who were driving through UT & wanted to make a fast stop at our house for dinner, I called Slackwater to order pizza so they could eat & get quickly back on the road. We ordered 1 cheese, 1 Ironhorse & 1 pepperoni with extra cheese, we got other stuff, but this is about pizza. I got an Ironhorse & 2 PLAIN CHEESE pizzas! All 3 were small & burnt. When I called, I was told to look under the cheese! OMG, we get that Slackwater puts pepperoni under the cheese, we ate there almost every week for a year & told them we had done a full search of the pizza before we called, but there was ZERO pepperoni! We didn't have time to wait for another pizza, so I declined a remake. A manager got on & offered to take the pizzas off our bill. I still don't see the credit & probably never will. Joey never said let me speak to the kitchen, sorry for the 3-hour wait, sometimes when things get busy a topping or an entire order gets forgotten or even, I'm sure things will be better if you try again. NO, Joey chose instead to threaten me, so I wouldn't go there again if Joey paid me to go. There are too many places to dine in this area where we enjoy the food & service. Slackwater is closer, but we'd rather travel than come in contact with a man so unstable he thinks it's best to threaten senior citizens, than make things right when he's the one who made the mistake. After his remarks, we don't feel safe going there. If he gets fired, the kitchen & service will most likely return to normal.

Meanwhile, tables that arrived after us were served before we ever saw any food. We never received our appetizers of spring rolls and cream cheese wontons. Another 10 minutes goes back, our pho and bun bo hue finally arrived. The soups themselves were underwhelming. Both bowls had very few noodles - I got maybe three bites of vermicelli before it was gone, and only about five tiny pieces of brisket. I've attached a photo to show our bowls a couple sips in. On top of that, the service felt chaotic and inattentive. I understand that they seemed short staffed, but the server's attitude was a turn off.
