Their enclosed and heated patio adds a nice quiet additional space for eating in. The portions are filling and may even leave a bit for taking with you too which is nice. One of my faves! I have been here for dinner multiple times: easy, delish, and satisfying every time. But recently, I had some friends visiting on two separate occasions and had to get in for brunch. (The staff always told me to come in for brunch sometime, but the timing never worked out!) Well, let's say that brunch is the way to go here. You get full access to most of the lunch and dinner menu items, and their breakfast sweets and savories are superb. Don't forget to get a coffee, because their coffee is from a local Utah roaster and it was so so so good. Their garlic fries are some of my favorite, balancing crunch with soft and plenty of garlic. Screw anyone who says garlic fries aren't sexy... Root'd makes them that and so much more! I also really love their Tempeh BLT. They make their own vegan mayonnaise in-house and it can't be beat. Everyone I've seen try the bird burger has a hard time getting something else the next time around, so be warned. read more

Root'd Cafe is one of two $$ places to eat that is walking distance in the surrounding area that I am staying at, the Porcupine is the other. This cafe reminds me so much of a place back home in Springfield Mass, Nosh Restaurant & Cafe, that has absolutely delicious homemade food. I ordered the french onion soup and the meatloaf sandwich. The french onion, as every french onion should be, came out hot! I played with the bread for a couple minutes dunking it in the broth then my sandwich came out. Little baffled that they wouldn't hold off on making the sandwich until I started eating the soup but gave me time to let it cool down. When I did get to eating it I folded the bread and used my spoon to split it up into bite size pieces. What I liked about this was it was similar to eating cheesy bread with broth, didn't have to fuss around trying to cut up the cheese. Good hearty portion of onions and the broth was spoon filled until there was no more. The meatloaf sandwich was filling! I can see why this is the first sandwich on the menu. Every bit got better until it was all gone. I ordered garlic fries to come with it. Could have been a bit crisper to my personal preference but good amount piled on the plate! I skipped out on the sweets. Trying to put good food in my body while I am here for the week skiing. Overall this is a very warm establishment. Staff is super friendly and outgoing. The place is clean, for being the winter too the entrance was spotless of sand/salt. And all the plants made it that much more earthy. Mellow music in the background. Definitely a place I will be visiting again. Ask for some free stickers when you do go! read more

I recently went here for breakfast and had a fantastic time. The patio, which was dog friendly, was still open with nice heat lamps. The best parts about the breakfast were the quick and attentive service. I also loved my cappuccino and lavender lemonade. For my main dish, the Monte Cristo sandwich was very good, but not what I was expecting as it was somewhat atypical. I'd say my big complaint is the jam that went with the sandwich was a little odd. Finally, I loved my hash browns with cheese and bacon bits. Overall, excellent experience and I hope to come back soon! read more

Super impressed! My husband who is super picky even said he'd go back and that is a WIN! Food was so tasty, so much flavor and good portions for mains. I wish the beignets were a tad bigger because you get so much sauce especially if you get the chocolate sauce and it gets expensive if you do that as well. Service was lovely, we loved our waitress, she was a darling girl in dreads and was super quick to check up on us. I am docking a star because our table was pretty sticky and the highchair we requested was covered in egg so a little disappointing. I know it gets super busy but especially during cold and flu season we should be careful!! Also because yelp did not let us book same day and when we called to make sure they took walk ins it said press one to be connected and kept replaying the same message every time we pressed one... super awkward and kinda rude :/ which wasn't the inperson service at all! So I'm glad we showed up anyway regardless of the (expected) hour wait. Overall we loved it. We really enjoyed the covered patio and the music. And of course the food was wonderful. Was trying to find a cute brunch place in Cottonwood area. This seemed like a good option but I was a little disappointed. The service was very slow but also there weren't many people at the time. The waiter (who was nice) mention that the grill shut off in the middle of our meal being cooked so it took additional time. The menu didn't have much of a variety I felt. The beignets and coffee were very good, fish tacos and Cuban was mediocre in my opinion, not too impressed. read more

Best breakfast burrito!! We come here a few times a month for breakfast and we love it! There's a reason we keep coming back! Reasonably priced, great service, digital menus, there's something for everyone. The breakfast burrito is amazing though... the chipotle sauce is so good! I also get their eggs benny and my son gets plain pancakes. He loves them. The only reason I give 4 stars is because their coffee is hit or miss.... usually miss.... it's pretty bad. I guess it depends on when it was brewed and who made it.... but I feel like it should always be fresh in the mornings for a breakfast place.... but the last 5 times it's been awful. Wonderful for gluten free diet and dairy free diet as well. We ordered the Root'd breakfast with 2 protein of choice: eggs and bacon and one more as eggs and avocados. Service was fast! Accommodating and sweet. All the things you want in an eatery. Also, we reserved the table ahead of time and got 15 mins early but was seated in a Saturday morning right away. Beautiful simple contemporary decor. Food was very flavorful and not too greasy or processed. This is the place to get your breakfast for sure! Service very hospitable and attentive. Root' was a fun place to go eat after a nice day of skiing up Big Cottonwood canyon. ATTN SKIERS: This place is close to the canyon and serves some yummy food. Put it on your post shred food list. I know I'll be coming again. Me and a buddy shared the beignets and they were the highlight of the meal. Hot and fresh with a delicious fruit compote to dip into. Oh, you don't speak culinary? Compote is like a jam...for the record, I don't speak culinary either. I just remember that is what the waitress told me. I then got the chili verde. Good flavor but a bit more watery than I would have liked. Eggs and hash browns were good but nothing insane. I saw a ton of things on the menu that I want to try. I tend to order both sweet and savory for brunch, it balances my taste buds and I like variety on my table. What we ordered: Huevos Rancheros (good) with a side of Chili Verde (lacked the chili flavor, mostly tasted of pork) for my husband and Savory Breakfast Quinoa Bowl for me, along with a side of Sweet & Crunchy French Toast to share. We also ordered cocktails Mo'sake and Kombucha drink, very average tasting. Maybe mimosas are a safer option to choose here. What I liked the most - the grated ginger in my quinoa bowl that bonded all the flavors & the crunchy French toast! The cereal crunch on it was a winner. I love Root'd. Great menu, GREAT beer and wine (and mimosas). So many things to try. Here's what I've eaten: Huevos rancheros, the breakfast/quinoa bowl (add pork sausage), the avocado toast, house salad, the meatloaf sandwich, breakfast burrito (smothered for sure), house quiche, crunchy French toast, crepes, and the steak fajitas tacos. Not going to go wrong with any of those. Haven't tied the Mama Bird Burger yet. But it's next. Drinks highly recommended: the Beermosa is delicious. Totally worth going all in on it for brunch. Bucket of bubble, of course. The TF beers are all fantastic -- heads up on the Albion Trippel. The wine menu (look them up on Vivino if you don't believe me) is fantastic. Beer Mary is delicious. COVID notes: wear a mask to and from your table. Plan on a short-medium wait, or just make it easy on yourself and make a reservation on Yelp. Also of note: Root'd has improved significantly since reopening after the COVID shutdown. Went from a 3.5 to a 5 for me. This is one of my favorite spots tucked away in Cottonwood Heights! The prices are reasonable for a night out and their salad dressing is even superb. I love seeing that they have good business and their patio seating is also dog-friendly which adds more to the ambiance. So glad I found this hidden gem! While on a trip through SLC, I chose to stay in Cottonwood Heights. Man this restaurant could not have been any sweeter. The food was excellent, but the really kicker was my waiter Jake. What an awesome,polite,and over all great young man. After what was a perfect meal, I had the Huevos Rancheros and my 92 year old father enjoyed the French toast with fresh berry compote,eggs,and what looked like to me handmade sausage. Jake brought the bill,left with my payment, then returned and said that the meal was on him. Thanking my father for his service in the Korean War.
