Emily was such a gem to work with! I found her during my early pregnancy for prenatal massage but she was the best masseuse I've had before and I've had A LOT of massages in my life. I would see Emily every 2 - 3 weeks throughout my pregnancy which was so needed. I ended up hiring her as our birth doula and she was amazing. She was thoughtful in her approach, meeting with us multiple ties to discuss the birth plan and making sure we felt comfortable. During my labor, it was so helpful to have her over at our home before the hospital, supporting me but also my husband. She was a calm, soothing voice throughout my labor that REALLY helped me get through the intense natural labor that I had. She also had various massage and pressure techniques that was helpful. I went to Emily for prenatal massages and I couldn't be happier. I originally thought I would just get one massage to treat myself, but after the first one I knew that I wanted (and needed) more to get me through my whole pregnancy - I had really bad hip and lower back pain throughout and the massages were very helpful to relieve that discomfort. Emily is very calm and thorough. She asks questions about everything (not just what part of your back or shoulders you want worked on) - she asks about your pregnancy, concerns, how work is going, etc. I think she could sense how stressed out I was sometimes and she always made sure the massage room was comfortable and quiet and relaxing. She is great at reading people that way and figuring out what they need for each appointment. I looked forward to this hour with Emily every few weeks soooo much. She was also very flexible with me - which I definitely appreciated. There were a couple times I needed to reschedule my appointments (baby brain sometimes made me double book myself - opps!). It was never an issue with Emily - she always accommodated my requests to change appointments and she always responded right away so I wasn't left worrying about the answer to my request. You definitely should get massages for yourself throughout your pregnancy (you deserve it!) and you absolutely should have Emily for those massages. I can't recommend her enough! read more

Where do I even start?! Emily is not only an amazing Doula but she's also an excellent massage therapist. I was lucky to have Emily as our Doula for the birth of my son in November 2017. My husband and I knew from the moment we met her that we wanted her to be a part of our birth support team. She is kind, calm and confident in her abilities. She provided support and encouragement via phone and text throughout the entire time. Emily is one absolutely amazing prenatal massage therapist, birth doula, and postpartum doula! I will always have her be my doula, if its possible, and she will always hold a very special place in our hearts. She has a wonderful calming and reassuring presence. I hired her very close to my due date because I suddenly realized that I didn't really know what to expect during labor and delivery, and was scared. When we met she asked thoughtful questions and listened in a way that I felt like she was someone who was empathetic, confident, experienced, client-centered, and flexible. I had two prenatal massages with her and they were both wonderful. Her space is so relaxing, comforting, and inviting. And she adapts her massage to your specific needs. I was so relaxed I fell asleep both times. We had two prenatal meetings before the birth and she provided excellent paperwork to help me and my husband prepare for the day. It helped us to examine what our expectations were and think about things we hadn't even considered, such as what I needed postpartum. She sat with us and listened, letting us ask all our questions and express all our worries and concerns. During the labor and delivery Emily stayed with me for the entire duration, even when my labor was not really progressing. She had many alternative ways to encourage the contractions and helped me feel empowered to advocate for myself in regards to my birth plan, as the nurses were coming fairly often to tell me that I needed to get pitocin to hurry things along. She had such a gentle way about her, and also a real strength, which I drew upon, especially in the last stages of the labor. I remember her words and her confidence and how they gave me courage to continue when I didn't think I could keep going. After the birth, she checked up on us several times, educating me on things like my postpartum body, nursing, and baby sleep. She sat with me and listened as I shared about the anxiety and fear I was experiencing. I always looked forward to her visits because I knew it was gonna be a time when I could feel very safe. I began seeing Emily when I was 4 months pregnant for prenatal massages. Immediately I liked Emily. She is warm and reassuring and has a very pleasant disposition about her. Eventually, I asked Emily to be my doula as well and she should really charge more for the time she spent with my husband and me. Emily met with us at our home and came to our Hyponobabies birthing rehearsal as well. During my nearly 40 hour labor, she gave me massages, guided me into varied birthing positions, and my husband was so happy to have her there too for his own moral support. My baby was stuck in my pelvis so I ended up needing a c-section anyway, but Emily even offered to stay for that. She had already gone above and beyond, so I told her to go home and get some rest. She came to the hospital and checked on us a couple days later and then to our home the following week. Even though I am not pregnant at the moment, I consider Emily my go-to massage therapist and will certainly ask her to me my doula again in the future. I received a gift certificate from my best friend for a prenatal massage with Emily. Her massages are fantastic, and that's where I would give her a higher than 3 stars. The reason I gave a lower rating overall is because of my experience with her as a doula. I was induced at 41 weeks and asked if she would be able to come at the beginning of the induction. She explained that she usually doesn't do that because inductions can take a long time. I really wanted her there to support me from the beginning but felt uncomfortable asking her to do so after what she said. So I was induced and ended up going into active labor right away. Within 3 hours of taking the induction pill the baby was coming. I asked my husband to tell her to come right awa but by the time she came the baby was out. She missed the birth which was very disappointing. After the birth she offered to compensate with a couple massages, which I appreciated but I felt that at least a partial refund should have been offered. It's unfortunate that this happened because it's now a part of my birth story. read more
