What I wanted was sexy succulent oxtails were the gravy covers your lips and coats your tongue meat…read moreso tender you don't have to chew just swallow flavor so good you wanna eat your own fingers with rice and peas and juicy sweet plantains I GOTS NONE OF THAT I never had dry oxtail no gravy whatsoever. Tender but not as tender as it could be. The plantains were also dry and hard not really sweet. They left the super big stems from the fresh herbs. The oxtail and plantains were so dry I could swear they were cooked at least a week ahead of time. The rice was okay and so was the patties. I had one beef and one chicken curry. Over all I was so so disappointed and for $25 a platter like I really want my money back. I will never go back. You should always take pride in your food and business.

I was in Jersey for a concert and was really hungry. I drove around a bit and came across this…read moreJamaican spot; you can imagine how excited I was, since I'm an Island girl. I ordered a side of Jerk chicken, patties and a drink. I could not wait to eat. (Sigh) I was a bit disappointed because the Jerk chicken portions were way too big and it seemed as if they were done in the oven instead of on the grill. Authentic Jamaican Jerk Chicken is not usually served with gravy and this had way too much; it was almost like a stew but with less gravy. I ate it because it was edible but I'm not so sure I'll be back now, I could be nit picking because, like I said, I'm an island girl and I grew up on this type of food so YOU may like it if you end up going here.

Simpson Restaurant Atlantic City - Good Food, Good Vibes... and a Side of Tea…read more Food Quality & Taste Let's start with the star of the show--the wings. Baby...they were seasoned just right. Not bland, not doing the most--just a perfect balance that even my hard-to-please husband had to nod in approval. Now that says a lot. Hubby also tried the brown stew fish with rice and veggies...and yeah, he wasn't impressed. To be fair, he doesn't impress easily, so take that with a grain of salt (he's a spice guy, so that may have won him over). I had the pasta, and I'll keep it real--it was simple. BUT once I borrowed (okay, took) some of hubby's veggies and mixed them in, it leveled up real quick. Round two, the next day? Much better. Hubby ran it back with wings and tried the curry goat--and this time, full approval. If we go back, we will try the oxtails. Value for the Price First visit: near $120 (not including tip) for 1 appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entrees. And listen--if we had added oxtails? Easily pushing $150. Second visit (wings + curry goat): just over $50, which, for AC, I guess that's about right. So the value really depends on what you order. Choose wisely, my friends. Cleanliness No issues here. The space felt clean and comfortable--no side-eyes needed. Customer Service The hostesses set the tone--very warm and welcoming, which I love. The waiter? He was nice, just a solid, nice. No complaints. Wait Time & Convenience Everything moved at a good pace. No long waits or confusion. It's giving smooth operation, especially for a busy Atlantic City spot. Presentation & Atmosphere It has a sports bar feel--on the darker side, but they do provide table lighting so you're not out here guessing what you're ordering. Now let's talk atmosphere...because baby, it was lively. Lots of birthday celebrations, music, and energy. The table next to us? Loud enough for me to learn way too much about their personal lives. I now know who's dodging child support and who's dating Benjamin Button So yes, it's a vibe--but not a quiet one. Red Flags or Warnings It can get loud, so don't come expecting an intimate whisper-over-dinner moment. Some dishes are hit or miss--stick with what works (wings and curry goat, oxtail are safe bets). Now I do have questions...why are the fruit slices in the drinks paper-thin? Either someone was showing off their knife skills, and we got the remnants or the mandolin was working overtime. Maybe the fruit budget is under review because those slices were darn near see-through. Overall: Simpson Restaurant has good energy, strong wings, and a fun, lively atmosphere--perfect if you don't mind a little noise and a lot of personality around you. Just be mindful of what you order, because everything doesn't hit the same. My stamp on this place is... "Queens' Quest"

I had high hopes for this place but ended up being a little disappointed. This place is pretty big…read morefor a carry out type of restaurant. They have a few tables inside to sit and eat if you're interested. The service is pretty good. The woman behind the counter is quite friendly and was helpful in deciding what I ordered. I spent about $70 and ordered the following: Fried Whiting platter with Yams and Collard Greens Jerk Chicken - just chicken 3 wings and fries Curried Chicken platter with rice and cabbage The fried whiting platter in terms of the fish was a smashing hit. I loved the fish. Seasoned well, no bones, great on the portion size. The candid yams were lacking cinnamon, softness, and taste. Could have been much better along with the seasonless greens. I definitely needed so salt. The Jerk Chicken was too soft to me and didn't have a true jerk taste. After two bites it went in the trash. The 3 wings and fries were good to me. While not actually wings and moreso wingettes they are a good size. Nice and crunchy. The curried chicken ok. The cabbage was lacking season. The rice was ok. Overall if I happened to be in the area I'd only want the fish. Most of the food lacks seasoning and isn't with it to me but the chicken and fish are a hit for me.
