Amazing fresh food great service from the twin brothers. We simply love to go there. There's a variety of food on the menu and everything is fresh. They even have a touch of Thai food.

    Great start

I was so surprised ... embarrassingly so. When my family members wanted to have some sushi and I made the turn towards Sakana I was asked if I eat here frequently. I said ... no, it's been years. What a mistake ... I have now been back within 2 weeks of that first visit because everything was so good. The first visit's focus was on the Japanese side of the menu but on the return visit it was Chinese all the way ordering some of the same dishes that have been ordered for years at Sakana ... actually decades. I need to emphasize that looks can be deceiving!!! The outward appearance of Sakana creates a perception that this restaurant is not open or if it is ... well, drive by. That would be a huge mistake!!! And, when you walk in ... don't let appearances food you. It's true that the dining area takes you back in time and needs a Robert Irvine makeover but frankly are you heading out to eat Asian food for the splashy fountains, lacquered walls, and mahogany booths? No ... you want good eats and that's what you are going to get at Sakana with plenty for the normal eater to take home the next day's lunch. Service is warm and welcoming! Smiles and conversation (If you choose to engage in some.). Yes, they do a lot of take-out so be understanding of that focus of their business ... those take-out's allow those of us who enjoy eating in to enjoy some delicious food! The tablecloths are clean but obviously have survived generations of washing ... but the welcoming bowl of edamame saves you $5-$10 off a typical bill at other places. FREE and perfectly yummy!!! Believe me our fingers were all over those green pods!!! On sushi night we couldn't help but notice how fresh the food was, which really matters. And, I was nosy so I checked the knife cuts which were precise ... no torn seafood at Sakana's! Soup was tasty ... we were happy!! On Chinese night ... the Hot and Sour soup absolutely pleased both of us. Smooth with the right blend of flavors and full of those special ingredients that sometimes are left out at other locations. Even though I was hungry, there was enough of my shredded pork dish to take home and it was lunch the next day. I will no longer make the mistake of not being a regular. I am curious now about the Thai choices on the menu!! Definitely coming back and my family has told me more than one time now that I should be embarrassed that I have not been a regular customer of Sakana's because their food is sooo good plus the service makes you feel appreciated!

    1. Chicken Teriyaki (Lunch)
    Erfan Z.

Stopped for Asian food craving. I ordered the Japanese lunch: Chicken Teriyaki with rice and salad. The chicken was marinated well and rice was delicious. I liked the side salad and the overall price. I think it was $14 for it plus tax and tip $20 for lunch. Their service sucks The ambiance is dead The restaurant needs to fix their driveway and parking lot it's uneven I was ready to leave and the waiter said to check out at the front. They dont bring checks to your table. And then waited 5min at front until dude came to check me out! The dude rang my bill for General Tsao instead of my chicken teriyaki. Inconvenienced here by service.

Surrounded by Dollar Stores, fast food, Goodwill, and lots of crumbling weedy pavement sits this rather unassuming, slightly scary looking original diner car. It's not much to look at, and definitely not in a high -end kind of town. Hiding inside this lithe place is some pretty darn good Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. It's proof that you should not always judge a book by its' cover. This is one of the Queen Mother and the Patriarch's favorite S. Jersey places, though they only know it as "The Chinese Diner on 45". They are not big on names, those two. They, Faithful Dining Companion and I headed over there for an early dinner. We were greeted and seated promptly. The place has a lot of the feel of the old diner it once was, with stainless steel and recessed ceiling lighting. There are booths and also tables, and around the side they have built an addition that has larger tables for groups oaf 6 or 8 or more. Drink orders were taken quickly. One order was for iced tea, and we were asked "Sweet or unsweet?" What? In Jersey? Oh, could it be? So, sweet was ordered. A can of Lipton with lemon was delivered with a glass full of ice. *sigh* There is a difference between 'sweetened' and 'sweet', people. Orders were then promptly taken, and we had a variety - one Miso Soup (also very good), one Cold Noodle Salad (awesome), one order of steamed dumplings (OK) along with a ginger salad (meh) were produced first. Then, entrees - one Pad Thai (very good), one General Tso's (very good), one steamed chicken and vegetables (someone is on Weight Watchers) and one Cashew Chicken (good, if slightly overdone). On the whole, very good food. Service was uneven. At some times plates were cleared promptly and water refilled, then at other times glasses went empty and plates sat. We seemed to have 1 3/4 servers, which was a little confusing. Overall, a solid 4 star place, a bright spot in a sea of boring chain food. We'll be back.

So during the COVID pandemic this business decides to profit off of cashless transactions.

I'll beeb coming here for years but this is my LAST time. They charge you to use your card. We're in the middle of a pandemic and they are penalizing those of us who don't want to use cash. They had been slowly going down hill, and this is the last straw. I'll order takeout somewhere they can appreciate people wanting to be safe by being cashless

Fuji is one of those spots you leave already planning your next visit. Solid food, good energy, and no gimmicks--just a reliable go-to when you're craving Japanese done right.

A stormy night when our first options were either crowded or far too expensive ($40 for a buffet,…read morereally?)! So, Mt. Fuji was calling ... and Mt. Fuji's warm welcome and superb sushi clearly were the right choice once again! When you walk into this classic Japanese restaurant you can choose to head to the noisy Hibachi grill section where the chefs entertain, or you can choose the side where the sushi chefs are working their magic within view. What I really like is the wall ... if you want to enjoy a quiet meal of sushi and sashimi the wall keeps the comic performance from disturbing your tasting of the fresh seafood. Speaking of fresh seafood ... oh my! Each bite of our sushi offered that fresh flavor of the sea that you expect when eating raw fish. My specialty roll's flavors were so good ... SOOOOO GOOD!!!!! And, the regular rolls provided the simplistic tastes of the fish of choice. The service was outstanding, and it was hard to miss the staff's interaction with other customers. When you walk in you are greeted with a warm smile. You are checked on regularly but not overwhelmingly and your tea is refilled as needed. Finally, another mark of a quality restaurant that we have never tried but was clearly evident was the number of take out orders awaiting to be picked up. We saw smiling customer greeted by staff members as they picked up their take out. So, if you are confused by the choice of a buffet that will cost you $40 versus a quality restaurant where the food is made for you at half the price ... well, I made the right choice and you should too!

Enoki and egg soup is my favorite appetizer. Light broth with umami and perfect saltiness. My second favorite appetizer is agedashi tofu. So silky like pudding with light teriyaki broth. Beef roll up with scallions: beef is tender with some kind of sweet teriyaki sauce. It's pretty good. Eggplant filled with ground chicken. It looks appealing but unfortunately a bit too greasy. The sushi here is very special. The sushi rice is silky and moist. The fish piece is bigger than the rice. The eel is a must try here. It's very big compared to the rice underneath it. It very flavorful too. Mt entree is steamed salmon with seafood broth. I recommend squirting the lemon to the broth to make it taste like yuzu sauce as it lightens the whole dish and makes it less fishy.

PRO: I will say, if you want a place where you can sit and have a conversation, dark mood lighting (especially forgiving if the last time you saw each other alot was 20 years ago! - LOL), Sagami is an excellent choice. PRO: They don't rush you out - take your time. It was a Thursday night, so not especially busy when we came at 6:30 PM. CON: I could not find an updated menu online - I'm one of those people who like to peruse a menu in advance. I started with a vegetable tempura appetizer ($10) - excellent, light, airy, tasty. My main was the dragon roll - very tasty. Service was quite nice. Appetizers came out almost immediately, the rolls took a lot longer to get to our table. This is the kind of place where you're not paying to fill up your belly - but if you do, expect to shell out some bucks.
