Failure, complete and utter failure.. That's what I experienced when I ate here. This is another one of those I'm downtown and need some quick food I should get pizza off the side of the street places. I ordered the veggie pizza and noticed that they immediately put my pizza in the oven to re-heat it. When I did get my pizza it was burned and bitter, the toppings were over cooked and the sauce what little I actually had on my pizza was very bitter also. I know they serve mass quantities of pizza but I would mind waiting just a bit longer if I could get slightly fresher food. Sometimes you just have to throw something out if its not good anymore and not sell it to customers after its been sitting around for hours. The customer service here was horrible too, I tried to ask some questions about what was on the veggie pizza and was responded to with "well it has all the veggies on it". I had to explain to the person taking me order that I wanted to know what veggies were on the pizza and I could tell they just wanted me to order and hurry and move on so they could sell more pizza. Don't eat here its not worth it and if your downtown you have more food options. Just walk a bit further over to the east side and have East Side Pies if you must have pizza. read more

Let's start with the empirical fact that there is no bad pizza. As a wise philosopher once said "Pizza is a lot like sex. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good." I'm more of a thin girl myself (crust wise, not badonkadonk wise) but even so it was still a tasty pie. I also had a really fresh delishy Caesar salad. Yes, I said something fresh came from somewhere off 6th street. (don't faint, it's true) The big surprise of this place was the three story covered patio in the back with TVs and music. If you need late night drunk food, this is the place. No, they don't have wonderful pizza. It's not especially wonderful stuff. But for these guys, it's location, location, location. They're right on Sixth Street, where all the action is. There are plenty of places for late night grub along Sixth Street, and this is an alright choice. The guy is fast, he loads the pizza into a heating machine that warms your slice. It's ready in a few minutes. There's a few varieties to choose from usually, unless you want to hang around and wait for a custom made one made from scratch. read more

Okay, I'm only giving Roppolo's three stars, but allow me to qualify that. If you are drunk on 6th street on a Friday night, I bump it up to 4 stars. No, it isn't the best pizza you will ever have, but it's fast service and it soaks up the booze. Grab a slice, sit on the curb with your friends (look before you sit!) and people watch. Wait for a slice that's coming out of the oven, no telling how long those heat lamps have been warming that pepperoni and goat cheese that you're eyeing. Multiple locations downtown and they're all pretty much the same. Just walk a few blocks on 6th and you'll find either a storefront or a mobile oven. They're not open during the day except for special events. If you want an afternoon slice, head on over to The Onion. The Bottom Line: Your basic street pizza that tastes proportionately better with each drink you've had. So drink up! read more

Well, I finally got to the ACTUAL Roppolo's on May 16, 2008, and as I had hoped, it was a lot better than the trailer. It's tough to have perfect quality control when you're mass producing things, but I was lucky enough to get a fresh, delicious (complimentary) Sicilian pie prepared by Marc Roppolo himself this evening. I can honestly say, it was the best pizza I've had in Austin so far. The 20 inch pizza probably weighed 6 or 7 pounds. It was loaded with a delicious combination of veggies and meats, all of which were fresh. The typical topping were there (pepperoni, sausage, mushroom), but this pizza also featured some special items like spinach, red onion, and orange bell peppers. The sauce was mild and not too sweet. There wasn't too much, but there was definitely enough to hold things together. That was all served on a fresh crust, not too thick, not too thin. I did use a fork for a lot of it because it was so loaded with toppings, but I think a typical slice would hold up just fine if eaten by hand. This time, the pizza was piping hot. Pizzas were being made left and right, so I bet most people's slices are quite hot from this location, which is definitely a huge improvement over the trailer. I agree with others that this is not "destination pizza"as the restaurant is pretty small and doesn't have some special ambiance you'd want on a date or anything, but I would definitely eat here again if I were in the area at dinner time, and I would not hesitate pick up a pizza to take home. I just wish they were open for lunch! read more

Roppolo's offers convenience and speed when you're looking to feed your late night junk food craving. They also offer some of the largest pieces of sausage I've ever found on a pizza. Seriously look at the picture. Those sausage pieces are like mini-meatballs. Had much better tasting slice from a truck down the street but this got the job done. Piece of pie on the Austin strip is easy to deal with cheap and open later than most restaurants on 6th. Got a slice of pie and a brew for 8 bucks. Had jalepenos and Siracusa to compliment my beer. I received some of the nicest service I've ever experienced after dropping off in with my family after the Day of the Dead parade. Also, their sports screen setup is pretty awesome, with a first floor bar near a projection screen that the open-air second floor balcony overlooks. Looking for food open on a Saturday afternoon close to the Capitol? Good luck! Most "fast" food places are closed pretty early on the weekends. We were looking for something fast because we had a duck tour scheduled soon. We found this place and thought why not. My group ate pretty good for cheap. Visited around 2:30pm on a Wednesday in September. Pleasant man behind the counter. The place was pretty empty. We sat in the back upstairs ( a lot bigger than expected ). Fans blowing with a mist that dissipated before it hit you. TV and radio on. Clean enough, except our napkin holder was pretty skeeeeezy. Never wiped down apparently. My biggest complaint is that the was no SAUCE on the pizza! We ordered a large extra cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. Now, we did not ASK for sauce, but, we NEVER ASK for sauce. It's implied. It's a pizza. Needed the sauce. Too salty without that acid and sweet. Doubtful we'd return but it wasn't a horrible experience. Brought our three kids. Not exactly sure what this 6th Street establishment is like on weekend nights. $37 for 3 sodas, 2 beers, and a very large pizza. read more

Never going here again!! My friend and i were just trying to get some pizza, and she sees the worker there has bright blue eye so she compliments him. But that was a big mistake because he had took offense to that and called us racist, and started to talk to us (paying customers) like we were nothing, I've never met such a rude worker in my life. I couldn't even eat my food after that it was ridiculous. It was so out of pocket we were just trying to make conversation and be nice and he( the worker) goes off on us for complimenting him. So, late night pizza is a must. and they are MOVIN' late at night. But being used to amazing late night pizza back in Wisconsin, I was pretty bummed. No interesting pizza options at all. I could basically only see pepperoni, sausage, and supreme. The staff was obviously busy but not super friendly, they probably just assume everyone is drunk--so I understand the hostility. If you check-in here, you get a coupon! I was excited about this so I asked one of the employees about it. Super weird...but this is probably one of the best slices of pizza I've ever had...I was out on the town with my SO and was super hungry after drinking a lot so we decided to stop for pizza. Came to Austin for the first time and fell on love... With this pizza of course! Walking down 6th street at 2 a.m. And I found heaven in a huge slice of pepperoni pizza! Yummy! The group of us bought a huge pizza for about $22. Had 8 enormous slices! One slice is enough for most! The pizza was not greasy as I expected it to be. The best part was the crust and the fact it was gluten-free! I don't follow a gluten-free diet, but of course it doesn't hurt. The bread was soft and the taste was delicious! You could taste the grains in the bread and it was the perfect texture! The cheese was perfect! It was melted and cheesy... But not soggy! I stopped in here for an early lunch after a long night out. Man, it was GREAT! They have quite a few setups in Austin, and quite a few food trucks throughout town that serve Roppolo's. It seems like it is an Austin institution. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and a vegetarian spinach pizza roll. Both were exceptional. It had been a while since I had pizza, so it was refreshing. The cheese was thick and gooey, the sauce was mild with great flavor and the pizza roll had a great texture. What pleased me the most was the crust. It was buttery, thick and filling. It's a rare thing to say, but the crust was the best part! When ordering the staff was very helpful and kind. The owner was really funny too, making jokes with customers and staff. Drunk, sober or hungover, this inexpensive and tasty pizza will be sure to please! read more
