Then they cut it open and drown it in tomato sauce. Take some of the dried pepper and shake it liberally all over. my friend came here around 4:30 pm today to get some garlic knots and marinara sauce as a light snack. she just biked 4000 miles to Alaska so she was hungry. the owner was extremely rude and was incredulous about her request like it was something crazy, and rudely pointed out that this was a PIZZA place. ok...a) why do you even sell garlic knots then, and b) honestly it's kinda sus how hard you push the pizza on your customers!! no thank u. And then to top it off, he actually refused to sell the garlic knots to my friend!!! I think Niki's Pizza was my main food group in college. For $5, you got a slice of pizza, a salad, and a drink - and it was a sizeable amount of food. The nice thing was that you usually got your order with a nice smile and "How's your day?" - something that is definitely out of the ordinary for Dobie Mall. I ran into Niki at his new location up north near Parmer/I-35 recently and he remembered me from my dorm days! He even asked why all my other usual lunch buddies weren't with me, haha. The pizza, pasta, and salad are pretty average. I always thought the garlic knots were delicious. Overall, the value is downright awesome, and the service is superb - and that's what keeps me going back whenever I'm near campus and hungry! read more

Niki's Pizza and Pasta is the only place I eat at when I'm in the Southwest UT campus area (aka Dobie Mall, PCL, Main Mall). There are five combos, all under $5, that satisfy my taste buds and fill me up for hours afterwards. The prices of the combos are the same since I started coming here back in 2002 or 2003--awfully generous with the recent accelerating inflation. The friendly guy who works there (the one who's not Niki) jokes and chats with his customers, bringing a smile to my face each time. I really should ask his name next time. The pizza is good enough for me. He has several varieties, including a vegetarian one that I usually get. The pizza slices are big with a thin crust. I personally don't taste much difference between Niki's slices and those from Home Slice. Niki's slices are floppier and not as stiff. There are also calzones, pastas, and salad available. Niki's Pizza and Pasta is located in the center of the food court of Dobie Mall. Dobie Mall is on the Southeast corner of 21st and Guadalupe. Niki's Pizza shines as a Big Fat Greek Beacon of Hope in the otherwise drab and depressing Dobie Mall. You walk up to the counter, and you choose two very large slices of cheese, hamburger, pepperoni, or mushroom pizza. Select a drink, and pay the amiable fellow at the counter a measly $5. He will put your selection back in the oven, and after a couple of minutes, opa! Value trumps quality here, but the pizza is still pretty good any way you slice it (pun intended). The cheese is nice and soft, the toppings ample, and the crust is relatively thick and chewy compared to the rest of the pizza. It's not on par with a premium coal-fired pie, but it beats chain pizza any day of the week. The only downside: for some reason, this pizza makes you fart. Badly. And it's not the kind of fart that most people wrinkle their nose at, while politely pretending not to notice. It's the kind that's so putrid, it makes paint peel off the walls, birds fall out of their perches in the trees, and nearby foliage shrivel and die. It's the kind that should be banned by the chemical weapons portion of the Geneva Convention. Even so, it's still better than anything else in or around Dobie. As long as you're not within a 100-yard radius of any living thing afterward, you'll be fine. read more

You have to sympathize with Dobie Mall. This is clearly a place that had its heyday a decade ago. I can imagine in the 90s, this was a cool place to be, with its two story escalator and state of the art food court. But nowadays, I can't say I can think of many positive words to describe the locale. As a matter of fact, probably the only reason I visit there anymore is to grab a quick lunch from Niki's. I'm a big fan of Brooklyn style pizza, and Niki's makes up what it lacks in style with authenticity and affordability. The toppings are hit or miss, and the 50 cent refills are annoying, but there really aren't any better pizza options near campus. I usually get the two slices and a drink for 4.50 deal. The location sucks, but hey, you can't have everything. read more

I lived on Niki's Pizza during my year as a Dobie resident 8 years ago, and I have been a regular customer ever since. The star of the show is Miguel, an always friendly gentleman who can sometimes be found wearing a chef cap. Other staff, including Niki himself, make a much less tasty pie. I haven't seen Niki at the Dobie location since he opened the other store, and it's addition by subtraction in my book. The pizza itself, when made by Miguel, is well above average, especially for Austin. I consider it a poor man's Home Slice. It may even have better crust! read more

I do not appreciate you dinging your bell multiple times to get my attention and then wave me to come all the way to your counter, although I was sitting quite far, for you to tell me to not bring outside food in. Outside food that I was not even EATING, just holding and waiting for the business next door to open in a couple of minutes. I don't think you realize that most people who stop by Dobie to eat typically come back, and to different locations, including YOUR store. You are doing your own business a disservice. There is no reason to go out of your way, and kick patrons out when they are simply waiting for a different location to open. You may think you're protecting your business but in reality, you are just driving away customers from an already dead, Dobie mall. There is no reason for students who don't live there to go out of their way to Dobie when they are treated in this manner. Be grateful that Gongcha actually brought some life back into Dobie. I was fond of Niki's until this incident but now I can see why no one eats here while all of the other surrounding businesses get plenty of traffic. read more

2 slices of pizza and a coke for 5 dollars even is quite the deal. If your low on cash and craving pizza Its definatly worth checking out. But no need to make a special trip or anything. I think the fountain drinks should come with at least one free refill when your paying 5 dollars for a meal. Next time I will be sure to ask for less ice. Today I was poorly mistreated by an employee and I didn't even dine there. There are mainly two employees that work there. One with glasses and one with the mustache and hat. The one with the hat told me not talk to his customers. I said hi to a Marine who was standing in line and that's when the employee posed a threat and got very aggressive towards me. I was a customer minding his own business who forgot their car keys at Oma's Kitchen. This guy started talking like he knew me. I've had Nikkis Pizza once and that was years ago. I quit going because the same guy with the hat was rude and impolite to me on my next visit and the pizza wasn't that great anyway. The pizza is generic, bland and a disgrace to the pizza family. That's when I discovered Oma's Kitchen and never went back. Since then, we never exchanged any type of conversation ever again. But today he took it upon himself to get my attention passive aggressively by telling me hi and using me for the customers amusement. This guy wanted to fight, he made threats and even changed out of his work clothes to meet me outside. I then called the police and he left the scene. I'm a regular at the Dobie Mall and enjoy going to Oma's Kitchen. I have to pass this dreaded place to get to Oma's. These people have horrible attitudes and don't take complaints lightly. If i were just basing this review on the pepperoni calzone i had, i'd have given it 4 stars. But then later I had 'meat lasagna'. Note 'meat'. Please, if you go there, take my warning. Stick to cheeses/pastas/and pepperonis. The 'meat' was so disgusting I had to throw it away because I almost threw up. Seriously. I took maybe 10 bites. and 9 of those bites had 'mystery bites'. something tough and unchewable. disgusting. seriously...disgusting. worse than cheap meats at a chinese place. seriously...you know how if you're making hamburgers, the cheapest cut of hamburger that you'd probably buy is 80/20. this one was perhaps 20/80. just utterly disgusting. which is too bad, b/c the calzone was really tasty and huge and only $4.99. so...stick to calzones. or cheese lasagna. or maybe try the pizza. do NOT order anything with 'meat' or 'beef'. read more

After eating here for the first time since I was an undergrad, I gotta say the pizza is just as good if not better. The crust is just right in crispiness, the amount of cheese is just right, and the top isn't loaded with pepperonis. I like pepperonis as much as the next guy, but I don't like to have every square inch of my pizza covered in them. If I didn't know any better I'd say the prices haven't changed either, in 3+ years! The cheap price per slice plus the size of the slice alone are worth 1 star toward the rating. I'm not sure how fresh pizza tastes though, since I've never ordered a whole pie. But my advice is that reheated by the slice is the way to go. I saw someone else's pie and it looked kind of soft, maybe doughy but who knows. And you can get parking validated which is great if you just want to get some quick food and go while on the UT campus. read more

Excellent Pizza. It was kind of hard to find. It's upstairs in the food court of the Dobie shopping center, but the entrance to Dobie is around the corner on MLK, not on Guadalupe. I ordered 3 large pepperoni pizzas for my class. They were delicious! Three pizzas came out to $30. What a deal. I would have paid $45-50 at Papajohns or Pizza hut for less-tasty pizza. The pies come in 8 huge slices. I just asked the guy behind the counter to cut them again (so we had enough slices to go around) and he did. He was very sweet and accommodating. Came here with my coworkers for a quick lunch on National Pizza Day! By the looks of the pizza, I didn't have high expectations, however, was pleasantly surprised! I had the #1 special (2 slices and a drink) for $5. While the pizza was cold (reduced one point for this), the crust and flavor was on point! The crust is perfectly crispy, without being too thin. I had the veggie and pepperoni with jalapeños. Both very good. I was especially impressed with the quality id the pepperoni and the fact that the jalapeños were actually spicy!
