We ordered the smoked chicken with fried potatoes, pinto beans and okra, a double cheeseburger deconstructed, small onion rings and a BLT to go. They didn't have turnip greens or collards so I ended up with fried potatoes. Fried cornbread was included. Inside the restaurant the ceiling in the small dining area was similar to galvanized siding. It was shiny new. I didn't ask if the dining area was a new addition. The shiny caught my attention. I believe there were 12 booths for seating. We were the only customers inside sitting while Mike, the owner, was back in the kitchen preparing our foods. We introduced ourselves and told Mike we drove over there because we heard so many great things about his food and that his restaurant was clean. It was clean too! Mike brought our foods out and we headed to the car. As we were about to leave, Mike came out with a sample of his hamburger soup on the house. What a lovely gesture. We thanked him and his wife and headed home to devour our haul. The smoked chicken was delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the fried okra, pintos and fried potatoes. It said my order would be ready in 15 minutes, though I had the option to set a pickup time. I got unexpectedly waylaid at work and wound up not arriving to pick up my food til about 15 minutes AFTER my scheduled pickup time, but fortunately they still had my order waiting for me. There's a large parking lot so parking is easy enough and I walked right in to pickup at the hostess desk. The place is big inside and it was BUMPIN when I came in. Idk if that's a regular Saturday feature or if there was a special event going on, but the lights were turned down and the music was turned up and lots of people were eating, drinking, and laughing. Everything was packaged thoughtfully though as a result required some self-assembly - i.e., the pudding, syrup, and whipped cream all came in little cups that I dumped on top of the waffle. This ultimately served me super well because it kept the waffle from getting soggy. I appreciated this detail! Somewhat incongruously, the plasticware that came with my order in a packet included a knife and a spoon, but no fork. Fortunately the waffle was tender enough to cut with those, but I'm sure I looked silly spooning the waffle pieces to my mouth, lol. It was a tasty treat of a meal. The nilla wafer crumbles really helped deliver on the concept. The waffle had crispy edges and a soft interior and was a pretty golden brown. To be honest, the pudding part had a slightly artificial banana flavor to it that I didn't particularly care for, but the fresh sliced bananas and nilla wafers were good enough that I didn't really mind. If I'm nit-picking, I will probably say that $18 for a waffle, even with fancy toppings and accoutrements, is a little high for me, but I ultimately had a positive experience and would recommend it. They have a large menu filled with yummy sounding items and friendly service and I think I'd enjoy bringing friends here in the future.

The ingredients were fresh and the temperature was spot on, but the seasoning could have been bolder, and I've had better omelets and breakfast potatoes elsewhere. The undisputed star of our meal was Bethany's Peach Cobbler French Toast. It had excellent texture, balanced sweetness, and enough flavor that it didn't need a drop of syrup. If you're visiting for the first time, that's the item I'd recommend ordering. My wife also enjoyed her Banana Pudding Waffle, especially paired with the eggs, bacon, and standout cheese grits. The cheese grits were creamy, flavorful, and one of the best savory items we sampled. Presentation across every plate was impressive, and everything arrived hot and fresh. The only disappointment was the service. Our waitress checked on us just once after our food arrived, even though we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. A little more attentiveness would have elevated the overall experience. Despite that, Toast It Iz is a place I'd gladly visit again. The atmosphere is inviting, the food is thoughtfully prepared, and the Peach Cobbler French Toast alone is worth the trip.
