Walk in and you'll notice a dimly lit cocktail bar perfect for a date night. Promptly greeted we were sat in a partial booth with a natural wood table, facing the bar. The ambiance at lunch was quiet, relaxing, which I'm told is not the case certain nights when they have a DJ, band, or mariachi. Our waitress was super friendly despite being all over the restaurant, having tables scattered throughout the restaurant, perhaps covering for someone's break. Now to the important part, the food. We ordered off the lunch menu to try several items. Lunch is available Monday through Friday until 2pm. Just a precaution, the lunch menu is $1 more than the picture I posted as they had given me an old menu. We orders the enchiladas verdes, enchiladas con mole, and tacos de papas. Everything came with rice and beans, and everything was pretty tasty. The enchilada con mole were my favorite and probably the best enchiladas I've ever had. They were flavorful with a nice spice to them that lingers but doesn't over power. The Cafe de la olla had a bit too much cinnamon for my taste, but was ok. The horchata was better, refreshing and smooth, doing a fantastic job balancing out the spice. The only downside was the flan, which though it had a decent flavor, it had an odd texture, clumpy/chunky and a little gritty. That's this critic's review, until next time, I'll be eating. read more

Dropped by for lunch on a Saturday. We ordered quite a few plates as there were 6 adults. I ordered the sopes, they were delicious. The Carnitas are very tender and full of flavor. I also ordered the horchata, personally it was a little too bland for me. The service was super slow. The waiter took over 15 min to get our drink orders in. Once he got them in, we asked him to stay since we were also ready to order. The food did come quickly. A few things: moms with infants, there is no changing table in the bathroom. Also, the tables and chairs are just very odd. You have to be super tall to sit in the red chairs comfortably. It made it weird to eat the meal. I have given this restaurant two chances and both have been incredibly terrible. The first one I was double charged and the service level was horrible. The 2nd one, I sat for 25 minutes at the bar and never got acknowledged., service provided to the left of me, right of me just not me. Finally up and left and went to Yolanda's which was amazing service and friendly. Rosa Madera has definitely got to improve their service level otherwise they will end up closing. Let's just start with how great our service was. We had my Bridal Shower there with about 15 of us and our server Camila was on top it. She made no error and made sure everyone got their orders in a timely manner. She showed true professionalism and is great at her job! Kudos to another server, Juan, for expressing enthusiasm during our celebration. Let's also give a moment for the gorgeous suspending tequila wall! Overall, we had a great experience, despite a small hiccup with happy hour. We came specifically for HH (which was advertised on social media), but found out it wouldn't start until the following week. It was a little disappointing since we rarely get to make it to HH and were excited to try several items from the menu. However, the service was fast, friendly, and warm, and both our drinks and food came out quickly. I loved the unique touch of Chicharrones de Harina (Mexican wheel chips) instead of the usual chips and salsa- such a cool idea! The guava margarita was also a standout, with natural, refreshing flavors that weren't overly sweet. For food, we had the nachos al pastor, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how huge the portion was for a starter! They didn't hold back on the meat, and we were stuffed afterward. We still decided to try the papas enchiladas, which turned out to be a serving of chopped potatoes deliciously drenched in sauce and not traditional enchiladas (our mistake for not reading the description more carefully). We celebrated our ladies Galentines on a Sunday the ambience & vibes were excellent the mariachi was great. I've been here a few times the food has always been good. This time my server was Camilla she was amazing really did her best to provide our party of 20+ everything we needed, she always had a smile when serving us and recommended items to some of the ladies that hadn't been there before. We were amongst several large parties gathered for a birthday celebration so they have plenty of seating for large groups and small ones too. They have a bar area that's super cute! The server was attentive, kind and shared her recommendations. We came on a Sunday for the Mariachi that was soo fun and added to the great vibes. They serve pinwheels upon being seated, our server even brought some for the kids without any chile on them. The drinks are delicious and perfect combo with the food. This restaurant has many great things and I did enjoy my dinner here but I did come shortly after their grand opening after remodeling. They were extremely busy and all the employees were going from one table to the next. The food is very delicious and I love that they give rueditas to every meal. I tried their sampler plate that was very delicious "Los Favoritos." My favorite was their nachos al pastor. I also tried their drinks which came beautifully presented. "Street Tacos" are a staple of Mexican food, but there are other dishes you should try! Rosa Madera introduces you to a variety of Mexican dishes and drinks. Chicharrones de Harina or Mexican Wheel Chips are a crispy, vegan snack. These addictive wheat chips are placed as appetizers upon your arrival at the bar or table. Typically they are douse in lime juice and Tajín or chili powder and salt. We washed them down with the El Coyote: Mezcal, ginger beer, tamarind, lime, and mint. Served in a large clay mug. Cazuela Bowls are traditionally, shallow pots made of unglazed earthenware used for cooking. They make the perfect communal drinks, for sharing. Tequila, orange liquor, orange juice, pineapple juice, and squirt. After spending time catching up with friends, I order a main dish: Tacos Dorados De Papa Con Carnitas. The dish was solid! Definitely filling and full of taste. My friend order the Shrimp and Fish plate, which looked delicious. We left nothing for a "to-go" container. The ambience and vibes at 6pm on a Friday were lively! The place was jammed packed! The wait for a table was about 1.5hrs, thankfully the bar is on a "First Come, First Served" basis. However, it can get tricky understanding who arrived before you. Every patron for themselves! Tip: Come hungry! The food is on the heavier side as many dishes are fried. I didn't see an option for soft tacos. All of the options were fried or lightly fried. The sampler plate was all fried food. The starts are strictly for the food. To say that this restaurant dropped the ball majorly is an understatement. Not only was it a Saturday morning but it was Commencement for CSUCI and Memorial Day weekend. To open the restaurant w one server, not be able to give proper wait times, and on top to be unprofessional, and confrontational are ingredients for a disaster. Instead of being prepare to be hit by all the festivities happening in your town, be fully staff, have tables ready for large parties basically a big rush, this restaurant and the way it's managed dropped the ball. There was no recovery done by the manger, our server Andrea tried to recover the table towards the end of then experience but it was too late. I order a sparkling rose ($30 glass) and got a regular rose in a wet glass, for a $30 wine glass, at least polish the wine glass, basic expectation. I did get my Moët rosé after asking again, the server blames the bartender for the mistake. This was a common thing employees just blaming each other for lack of communication. We were a party of 16, who waited for almost two hours. They sat us in three separate tables not ideal when we wanted to share a celebratory lunch. There were other tables were we could have been accommodated Toby her but again lack of communication efforts to find solutions from FOH. BOH did their part, the food came us really really fast, it was savory, i appreciate the duros that came before the meals. One last thing, as a sever you should never tell the guest that they cannot order from the bar after you're seated, it should be noted that the bartender has the option to either transfer those drinks to the table (if teamwork is there) or as a server try to recover the table instead of making excuses. We had 3 of the 16 guests that work in the industry, we get being hit by a rush but not being staffed and prepared for graduation and a three day weekend is one way to drop the ball. You get duros de harina (not pig skin or chicharrones as I heard some people call them). It's not an animal product. .. lol . I liked them but would prefer a spicy salsa and corn tortilla chips. I got nachos because I just wanted to be a fatty . The salsas were a bit salty and seasoned oddly . The Al pastor was not crispy and there wasn't enough cheese. No cheese pull :/ At all. One of my friends said that for Cam it was good but the other said it wasn't great Mexican food. Now , don't get me wrong - I love the restaurant it's gorgeous!!! I'll be back for drinks/ the amazing service but I'll pass on the food. Prices are reasonable!! I really wanted to love the food but I just didn't . That's ok, as I said we all have different tastes. I entered with my family for THEIR first time and it being my second time.i wanted my family to experience the same warm welcome i felt....However the hostess with the younger girl working up front...seem to be so irritated and upset that my in laws were already nervous to even ask to be seated with more lighting they didn't want to bother her or make her more upset...it kinda set the mood for us....however our server was very attentive I don't remember if he introduced himself because we were so flustered from the hostess...however the food was amazing along with the agua frescas an my father in laws michelada he just wished it were the corona familiar.
