Went for a casual dinner upstairs on a weekend. I had the black bean burger with fries and gf had the tomato basil soup. Soup was pretty good, thick and robust with a good taste. Black bean burger was above average. Decent taste but benefitted from some hot sauce. French fries were not disappointing. Tasted like they were reheated from the day before. Bland and a little stale. Gate city copperhead on draft was tasty as hell. I'd say on average, the food was about a two star but we were waited on by Desmond and he bumped the score. With so many restaurants that are prepared to handle allergies responsibly, I'd recommend choosing another option if this is a concern for you. This was our first time here. We met two other couples for dinner. The ambiance is very upscale and nice. The restaurant wasn't crowded on a Saturday night. The servers were attentive and friendly. My husband and I ordered the honey-glazed salmon. Let me start by saying I'm not a salmon eater, but am developing my palette due to its health benefits. It was pretty good and not overly fishy like salmon can be. It was served with smashed potatoes and asparagus. Ya'll those potatoes were SO GOOD! I did not mean to eat all of them, but I did. It was a hefty portion, too! ‍ the asparagus was also good. It was grilled and cooked to perfection so that it maintained some crunch to it. They were the larger pieces which don't go limp as quick. We came here on a Friday night without reservations. No problem. This place is only a month or so old. The downstairs bar is not open yet so you must walk upstairs where there is a pretty bar and indoor and outdoor rooftop dining. The decor had a nice vibe. Hungry we had a hot pretzel and for dinner enjoyed a couple of drinks from the bar and from the hostess while we were seated out on the veranda. This place is trendy. Good place to impress your mate. Not so much for kids, but if yours are borderline behaved, probably ok to bring them. I hope they bring a live band in here, then this would be a super happening spot. Everything needs improvement. We had a 6:15 PM reservation for Valentine's and walked into a completely overcrowded area the host looked completely lost and bewildered. She told us it would be a 15 minute wait. Then she started asking people if they wanted to go upstairs they could be seated right away but didn't tell us that it was a bar upstairs. Luckily we looked first and decided to stay with our dining room reservation. We were seated almost an hour after our reservation time. Once seated we placed an order immediately since we had an hour to decide while waiting. I was then told the kitchen couldn't handle making table side Caesar salad which was on the menu. 45 minutes later still no food until the tasteless Brussels salad arrived. Then we continued waiting. We noticed no tables around us had any food. This was a scary sign. So we left cash for the salad and told the waiter thanks but no thanks and left. 2 hours there and we got a bland salad. Then left and found out we had to pay for valet parking. The menus was very limited and not what was listed on their website....no mention of anything different for valentine's. While initially waiting for a table, I looked through open table desperately to see if there was another option for Valentine's dinner. Nothing except Rose & Crown Tavern! Plenty of options which signals to me they are overbooking reservations that they cannot accommodate. The waiting area never cleared and even after leaving 2 hours later there was still an enormous crowd waiting for a table like it was Del Monico's. This place is a hard pass and NO. My wife booked a reservation for our family of 4 for Valentine's Day. Upon arriving they blocked off one side of the parking entrance to force customers to the other side with a mandatory valet. Once we began to head through the front door, the nightmare unfolded. We quickly began to notice an extreme backup of folks waiting around, a slow line just to check in with their reservation with 3 hostess and a possible manager frantically calling out names and erratically scanning and tapping through their seating program. Once we gave our reservation name, one of the hostess scanned and tapped her seating chart and scurried away without words. Wow, excellent way to welcome guest! I asked another wide eyed hostess that looked to be frozen in a state of shock from the chaos to see if we were checked in. She looked it over and said yes. I asked what the wait would be and she said 15 minutes and we could wait in their little waiting room off the foyer. As we walked in to the waiting room I began to see all the other helpless souls who appeared to have been aging in time. As I made eye contact, I began to get that feeling that they too were waiting for their eminent death. After 45 minutes they called our name, wow what a relief.....then to find out they could seat us......"but upstairs". I then asked what the difference was and it was then she looked like a kid who got caught stealing in the candy shop, of which she mentioned it was in their "tavern" area which is a bar with TV's. I told her we would wait for our table in the restaurant area and she said ok and gave no additional update. After repeatedly having to check on our table they finally "found" a table of 4. We sat down and met our waiter and went ahead and ordered everything we wanted quickly as we already had 45mins to stare at the menu previously. This special menu option was not their normal menu and the website never mentioned a special menu for Valentine's Day. After another 40mins my wife's salad finally arrived and it was very mediocre. While we waited for our dinner to come out I began to notice very little table turnover, and waiters bringing hardly any plates out. I looked at my wife and said we just need to pay for the salad and get out of this nightmare. We handed our waiter cash for the salad and split BUT to just get smacked with the valet fee. Never ever going to try this place again. The roof top bar looked like a great place to host my companies yearly summer event....well that ain't happening. Side note.....after they sat us my wife says open table was still claiming they had reservations for the times all this chaos was happening. Either they purposely double book reservations and make people wait just to try and make more money or they have zero idea how to work their seating software. read more

A shadow of its former self. The original rose and crown was torn down to make room for a 55+ community. The new rose and crown was built in as a part of that community. The food is not as good, the service is worse, the atmosphere is no longer as warm and inviting, replaced by a more modern and cold aesthetic that just can't compare. Laughably expensive! First time here after many visits to the old R&C, which at least had a bit of charm. Reminded me of a buddy's bachelor pad with a bunch of random neon signs hung on the wall and just one big loud open room with a bunch of TV's. Service was acceptable, not extraordinary, which is fine for a "high-end" bar. Food was above average and nothing to complain nor write home about. The pricing however, is outrageous. No kids menu, so no idea on what the pricing was. How about $23 for a kid's portion of average salmon? $25 for a decent prime rib. $22 for your standard bar burger. While going to the restroom I noticed there was no customers at the bar, so I wasn't understanding the wait time for service drinks. This restaurant is a delightful experience in every way. Our server Macy was wonderfully on top of things the entire time we dined. The food was so very delicious - loaded potato skins were awesome and clearly made in-house. The salmon was cooked to perfection and medium as requested. Easily the worst food I've ever tasted. Then they have the audacity to charge, an arm and leg for it. It would be an insult to compare this to tavern or bar food. It's undeniably glorified dollar store frozen dinner quality. Although, I've tasted better tv dinners than what I was served. The service was awful. They're overstaffed with inattentive servers. Both upstairs and downstairs. Originally I was sat downstairs in the French restaurant and I was there watching servers flirt for about 10 minutes, before I approached the hostess stand and spoke to what appeared to be the two managers. One was nonchalant (an older lady with glasses). The gentleman was graceful and helped. However, I didn't understand how I was being ignored (and sat in the wrong restaurant) despite the restaurant being empty. After being guided upstairs to the tavern through the elevator. I ran into a young man who was obviously high as a kite and a stocky man with a ponytail who looked like a bouncer. They both seemed highly annoyed when I politely interrupted their conversation to ask if I sat myself, I ended up seating myself since they were of no help. My server Rhonda was great! A very lovely and professional young woman but she was the only good that came out of this experience. The shepard's pie dinner price is double the lunch price and the only difference is a half scoop more of mashed potatoes on top. No matter how much seasoning or mashed potatoes were added, this entree tasted atrocious and was grossly overpriced. I understand why they do not have prices listed online because this place on average is $25-45 per dish with the underwhelming entrees unjustifiably listed around $30-40. The cocktails were flirty as if it were a Manhattan sky lounge. There was no bourbon or whiskey signature or zero proof drink. Everything was ultra feminine and tropical which has no correlation with a tavern. There's simply no continuity between the drinks and food menus. The food is British inspired with Island style drinks. Also, my drink was very flat or maybe the bartender forgot to add alcohol. I'm not sure which but it tasted like a Capri Sun not a cocktail. As for the space, the outdoor area (a rooftop with no view) appears to not be ready although there's furniture. I suppose it's still being assembled and arranged. The actual indoor area is not spacious, it's very cramped. It's not somewhere I'd want to socialize after work or on a weekend. I do not recommend dining here due to the food, drinks, and customer service. All around a terrible experience although the location is nice and the downstairs interior finishes are beautiful, I wouldn't return. The staff needs to be retrained to be attentive and welcoming, the food needs to be freshened and quite frankly lower the prices (it's pub food for goodness sake), and a drinks menu revamp. Lastly, limited parking available as valet ($10) requires the front and side of the building. The only self parking option is behind the building. The rooftop was nice with a lot of seating and plenty of TVs. I'll start by saying that the upstairs bartenders/wait staff are amazing! ( I'm looking at you Bria ). The old R&C menu was much better and so was the venue. The old school tavern vibe was cozy and relaxing. Now it almost feels like a lounge or a night club. But here is my issue. I was there on 9/29 and had a great time with friends. Stayed until closing which is 12am. On my way home I realized I'd forgotten my jacket and called immediately. The gentleman that answered said he'd found my jacket and placed it at the hostess station and I could pick it up tomorrow. I went back the next day...the jacket was nowhere to be found. But they took my number and stated they'd call me because sometimes found items are placed in the managers office for safe keeping. Again I gave them my name/ number and a description of the jacket. I never received a call. I called again the following day...they still couldn't find my jacket. I have left multiple messages for a manager to call me. I've been told they're "all in a meeting", "not in", "will be in today for sure", "cannot be disturbed" and "I don't know when or if they'll call you". No one has called me back. It is now 10/18. I still have yet to receive a call. This is my conclusion: 1) management doesn't care about their customers. It's evident as they are never on the property and won't return calls. 2) one of their employees 'borrowed' my jacket and doesn't plan on returning it. Pulling camera footage from that week would be the easiest way to find my jacket. But if you don't care about your customers you won't put in the effort. To sum it up, this situation really bothers me as my friends and I spend a lot of money there. We usually visit the establishment about 2-3x per week.
