Rose Mary is a consistent recommendation from friends, so my wife and I decided that it would be a nice spot for a birthday celebration. The design and decor of Rose Mary is stunning, with tan wood tones and minimalist style creating an airy and warm atmosphere. Service is warm and casual. All good things to start. The drink options are a huge highlight here, with some really fun and balanced cocktails like the Saffron spritz and the Rum Coconut #2. After that, we opted for the Grgich Zinfandel, which paired well with most of our meaty pastas. It wasn't as oaky and vanilla forward as some other Napa options are, but I don't think you would really want that for most of the food here. It was cool to see how dedicated they were to fusing Croation and Italian influence into the wine list, even down to our Grgich wine, which despite the Napa location was a Croation family vineyard. Okay, drink digression over. The fusion of Italian and Croatian styles is a really fun twist. As an Italian, I can occasionally fall into the trap of traditionalism, but I am happy to report that the flavors work very well together. A huge shout out to the pasta station, as the tortellini, gnocchi, and rigatoni were all excellent! Between those pastas, the tuna crudo, and the zucchini fritters, the start of the meal was truly excellent. Unfortunately, the middle and end of our experience was lacking and somewhat spoiled. It started with us finding a shard of long plastic in our gnocchi. The server apologized and stated that sometimes the deli containers break and it's hard to notice. I didn't love that response, but I get that it can happen. The more annoying thing that came from this is the miscommunication: she offered for us to select another dish and we told her we would think about which one. What was not stated is that she would also bring out another pasta to make it up to us. While the pasta was excellent, we ordered another dish without knowing we had a pasta on the way. However, that miscommunication was followed by overly salted branzino and an equally salty kjufte skewer. The thinner portion of the branzino, which my wife ate a bit of before stopping, was so salty that she was uncomfortable and drink two full glasses of water. She said that she couldn't get the salinity out of her mouth. I was hoping that the skewer would be better, but it was similarly salty and I couldn't finish it. Our server stated that sometimes they were heavy handed on the salt, and I think that's an understatement based on our experience. It was a rough ending to a meal that cost over $300 and sadly all of our conversation shifted away from celebration and toward how uncomfortable my wife was after trying to eat those two final dishes. We also couldn't finish our wine, as our palates were blown out from all that salt which made drinking experience pretty poor. It was a disappointment given that we dropped $90+ on that wine. I'd like to come back and give them another shot, but I'm somewhat apprehensive since it's an hour to 1.5 hour long drive for us to get there and it would be an expansive gamble considering the cost of a garage parking spot. If you live closer, I hope you do give them a try and I hope that the meat station shows some restraint. I would still encourage people to try the pastas and appetizers, and I hope that this feedback gets back to the crew so that they are aware. I would hate for others who are celebrating to have a similar experience to us, especially since the rest of the team clearly has their dishes dialed in. read more

Torn on this one... This place is super hip. I was excited to try it. No res so sat at the bar. Bartender was super cool. But then...not a fan of the Strawberry Amara. Weird after taste that I can't explain. Maybe the Cynar. It made the drink taste like it had a whiskey or something. If you don't like whiskey don't get this drink. I couldn't finish it. Rotolo. Star of the night. Never had this and never heard of it but now a huge fan. I'll have to look out for it in the future. Stuffed with mozzarella, best enjoyed with a bit of the tomato and basil. Highly recommended and can't wait to try this at other establishments. Asked for a surprise dessert. Maybe should have passed. Palacinke is a dessert crepe. I've been hanging around Chicago's food scene since ye olde meat-and-potatoes days (who else remembers Ronny's $1.79 steak dinners?). Hoo-ee, we've come a long way! Today, innovation layered on top of innovation makes 'normal' food seem humdrum, and that's where Rose Mary shines. Getting a prime time reservation here is like trying to nail Jello to the wall. The hack is to do it online at 12:00:01 AM exactly 30 days before the desired date; preferred time slots tend to fill up quickly. The Missus and I went for dinner on a Sunday. The décor is contemporary and exciting; even when the restaurant is crowded (which I'm told is always), you don't feel hemmed in. The fusion menu is unequivocally unique. I suppose you could call it "Crotalian." Cevapi meets cacio e pepe! Our server was professional and efficient. She knew every nuance of the menu and food prep, and was there whenever we needed something. Although the menu is not huge, there are some vegetarian-friendly items and also the kitchen offers a dairy-free menu, perfect for my cheese-averse Missus. Rose Mary encourages diners to order at least two dishes per person and share, share, share. But c'mon, our utensils were never replenished and we also had to reuse the same dinner plates for each course. We feasted on roasted pear salad, sweet potato, branzino, and pork ribs pampanella. Composed of high-quality ingredients and inventive flavor combinations, each dish blew us completely away. I particularly enjoyed the pork ribs - Italianized Texas BBQ plated in a pool of spicy sweet & sour sauce. The meat (tender but thankfully NOT 'fall-off-the-bone') had a nice crunchy char amplified by chopped walnuts. I requested the accompanying "cabbage & yogurt relish" (Greek coleslaw, I suppose) served on the side, not dolloped onto the ribs. For dessert, my Missus had chocolate gelato and I went for the cherry sorbetta. The latter's flavor was so intense and tart, it was like sucking on a raw lemon. Not my favorite. This was a beautiful, lively Croatian and Italian fusion restaurant. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We sat at the chef's table, which made the experience even more special, to watch our food being prepared right in front of us. I went for restaurant week this past Friday and this was a great menu to try different dishes. One thing that I'd like to point out that was a little confusing is that you share the courses. So on the menu you get everything on it but share it with the person you come with - I'm not sure maybe they put smaller portions if you're by yourself? Service was nice and the food came quick. I liked the sweet potatoes they were vinegary which is different. The tuna crudo was my favorite by far. The Cacio Pepe was ok nothing special. I was looking forward to the steak but it was kind of basic nothing too special - I didn't really like the beets. The toffee pudding for dessert was also good. First and foremost, our server Wes was amazing and deserves so much credit for making our experience light and fun. 10 stars for Wes! Dining at Rose Mary is a treat. It's decorated so beautifully. Love the hanging plants. It's obviously a hot spot, yet isn't at all pretentious. I wish we could have tried every single thing on the menu, it all sounded delectable. Alas, we'd had a huge lunch so we weren't starving when dinner time arrived. My girlfriends and I shared the zucchini fritters, triangoli pasta, tuna crudo and pork ribs. All four dishes were great. But that bite of crudo was *chef's kiss*. So perfectly salty and briny and good. We had a few great cocktails to round things out. Restaurant week was well worth it! We had a party of 4 and it was a bit confusing at first how it works. Essentially you get everything on the menu but you share it as a pair. The Restaurant Week offering is very limited: two choices per course and one dessert option.But the main downside was value and portions. You get one small dessert to share for two which was surprising and my first time seeing this during Restaurant Week. I also noticed our crudo came with four pieces, while others who also did RW got six, which felt inconsistent. I think they determine the portions based on the number of people dining and everything is meant to be shared, which I thought was very confusing given the portions. Overall, their approach to Restaurant Week feels off and not the best value. It would have been helpful for the server to explain this at the beginning. I would recommend trying out the regular menu instead. The meals however were delicious. The tuna crudo was incredibly fresh with great garnishes, and the cacio e pepe was solid. The sweet potatoes were definitely a highlight, unfortunately the steak was just okay, maybe a personal preference but was not wowed. Their take on sticky toffee was also decent. My husband and I came here for New Year's Eve dinner 12/31/2025. It was our first time here. We ordered a bottle of red wine (Domaine Bessa Valley petit enira 2019) that was very good. And we shared the NYE menu. This was SO much food! It was all incredible. The servers were on point and the service was excellent. Bread: this was very good and a nice touch since it wasn't on the menu. The flaky salt was great. Tuna crudo: this was fabulous. Grilled oysters: this was my second time eating oysters. The first was elsewhere and they were presumably raw. This was a delicious bite of food and now I understand why people like oysters! Pasta: this was one of the best things all night. It was absolutely heavenly. Divine! It had lamb in it. I was shocked by how good this was. Risotto: this was my least favorite thing we had. The risotto was undercooked. The flavors were interesting and not what I was expecting, but I did like it. Dry aged strip: this was delectable! The mushrooms and hollandaise were room temp which was a little odd but it didn't matter because it was all so delicious. We could not finish the steak. Sweet potatoes: this was very rich and also large! Sweet potatoes with crème fraiche and also sweet potato chips.... Brilliant! I really enjoyed this, and we also took some of this home. Toffee dessert: this was a really well crafted dish. The cake with the toffee sauce, the bourbon whipped cream, the nuts, and the vanilla ice cream, plus the orange segments. It was a beautiful way to end the evening! And while it was rich, it wasn't overly sweet or cloying which is impressive with that many things going on. I really enjoyed this! All in all, we had an absolutely fantastic time. We were seated at the bar, and 3 of the chefs working on bread and tuna crudo were working near that end of the open kitchen. Had dinner at Rose Mary and ordered the gnocchi with beef cheek, the crni risotto, the baby octopus peka style, and the cevapi. Being of Croatian descent, these dishes really hit home. The flavors felt both familiar and elevated, almost like a modern take on the meals I grew up around. The gnocchi was rich and comforting, with beef cheek that just melted. The best plate of the night. The crni risotto had that deep, briny flavor I've always loved, and it was easily one of the standouts. The baby octopus was cooked perfectly, tender with a bit of char, and the cevapi had that unmistakable grilled taste that felt authentic. Service was attentive without being rushed, and the atmosphere had an energy that made the whole experience even better. I was in Chicago visiting my brother and sister-in-law--they just moved to the West Loop and were excited this place is only a few blocks from their apartment, so we made a 6:15 reservation. We got there a little early, around 6, and were seated right away. Our server was great--friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was solid with a few standouts. The tuna crudo is a must--really fresh, buttery, and the crispy fried capers on top made it. The gnocchi was also very good, and the ribs were good but not something I'd order again. The fritters were underwhelming and probably a skip. We paid the bill (reasonable, around $350 for three of us which included 5 dishes and wine for each of us) and were just finishing up our glasses of wine, not lingering. Then a man--assuming the manager--came over and told us they had another reservation for the table. The way he said it felt abrupt and a bit dismissive. No context, just very direct. We had only been there about an hour and fifteen minutes and had already wrapped things up, so it just left a weird impression at the end. We were seated right away. They require you to order all at once. So we started with cocktails we both had the honey vespa it was amazing love the sourness of it not too over powering. For appetizers we had the zucchini fritters they came with a pesto aoli it was very different from what I ever had but I liked it. The brussel sprouts were well cooked and flavorful. For the pasta we had rigatoni and cacacio e pepe. I wasnt a fan of the rigatoni it was well cooked but the cacacio e pepe was the star. We then ordered the pork ribs and lamb saddle. The ribs were a bit dry. That egg plant sauce under the perfectly cooked and tender lamb was delicious. I also tried the cocktail called "actin up" which is made with mezcal I didnt care for it. I specifically asked the waitress if the mezcal was very smokey and she said no but it was. For dessert we had the pistachio tart which was very good. so HAPPY that I was able to check out Rose Mary! I am already looking forward to my next visit! On Sunday night, we were able to walk in and were seated at the Chef's Counter, which was such an intimate and interactive experience! We were able to see the food being made and it almost felt like a behind the scenes look. The service was top notch, all the staff were extremely kind and interacted with us behind the counter. It was cool to see how well their team worked, it was like a well-oiled machine. The ambience was amazing, I loved the hanging plants and bench like tables. If you have the chance to sit at the chef's counter though, I would advise you take it!! For the food, we ordered the zucchini fritters, stracciatella, radiatore "cacio e pepe", caramelle, and the crni. The server also gave us a side of roasted cauliflower. Everything was shareable and was a great size for a party of 3. To start, I loved the zucchini fritters, I can see why so many orders came in! The sauce that was paired with it was delightful! I will say the stracciatella was my least favorite of the bunch, but it was still good, I think I just pictured to be better in my mind. However, the roasted cauliflower, blew me out the water. I loved the pairing of the pine nuts with the preserved lemon chili crisp. That will probably be a staple for us now! For the mains, the cacio e pep was to die for, we couldn't stop eating it! The caramelle, I think fell short in comparison, but it was definitely unique and it was worth a try. Lastly, the risotto was so delicious. I was a bit disappointed at first, because it came alot later than the other two dished, but the flavors made up for it. First off great location. Great staff. Really good cocktails had the rose Mary old fashioned. Very strong but amszi g. The restaurant itself has great vibes. Ordered the clams and shrimp, mezullna, carrots, focossia and duck. First the carrots best carrots I have ever had in my life. Simply spectacular. The shrimp and clams were wayyyyyy too salty. The clams were overcooked and rubbery. The shrimp too was overcooked but both lacked balance and were just a salty mess. The mezulluna with peas just simply wasn't good at all. The duck was good well cooked. Overall the meal was all over the place. Some items cooked well others salty and overcooked. Was just overall disappointed from what started great with drinks and carrots spiraled into a very overly salted meal. The last piece to all of this is. I got a terrible case of food poisioning. I wasn't going to post this but they really need to be watchful of the seafood. read more

Wow, this place lives up to the hype. The food is incredible and the environment is welcoming and lively with a warm glow. We were excited to try it because we love watching Top Chef and the owner and head chef won season 15. Our server Nina was really sweet and caring. We could tell that she loves her job and goes above and beyond to care for guests and share details about how the food is prepared. There is a great view of the kitchen from the dining room and I noticed how everyone seemed focused and calm while cooking. We started with the Brussels sprouts and I honestly think they are the best I've had in my life. They have a perfect grilled texture with a complex vinaigrette that is earthy, bright, tangy, and well balanced. I loved the texture and added layer of flavor from the toppings. The spinach artichoke risotto was surprisingly bright and creamy and we loved it. It made me think that a vegetarian would be happy here, because all of the veggies were prepared so well. We also loved the pork ribs and the slaw really took the dish to the next level. I received a gluten free menu and was happy with the number of options I had to choose from. I'm obsessed with this place and it's easily one of my new favorite spots in Chicago! We were lucky enough to get last-minute reservations to celebrate my husband passing the bar, and the staff made it feel so special. At least four different employees congratulated him during our meal, which was such a thoughtful touch. We started with prosecco to toast, then followed their recommendation of about four plates for two people. We ordered the tuna crudo, cacio e pepe, cevapi, and skradin risotto. The tuna crudo and cacio e pepe were our absolute favorites, and we also really loved the skradin risotto. We spent a month in Croatia this summer, so we had to try the cevapi, but it didn't quite compare to what we had there, it wasn't even similar. I think I have to give this place another try? I have wanted to go here for literally years. I came here for a birthday dinner with my friends. We tried the straceteciella and some pastas. Definitely rich pastas, but I've recently been going to so many great Chicago restaurants to do similar things with pasta (monteverde and daises) and I just found that some of the flavor profiles weren't my favorite. I also think I need to go back again with other people and do more family style sharing. The service was good all around and they did give a free birthday dessert of gelato. They also work extremely accommodating my allergy and even printed it on the menu with substitutions. I would come back here to try other dishes and just give it another shot. read more

A nice upscale restaurant that changes their menus frequently. Service was great they were very well organized. I was here last week and was trying to find the names of the dish on their website but it looks like they already updated their menu. Everything was great but the biggest downside is how small the portions are. I would come back here for a special occasion and try the new menu items, but do not expect to get full or expect to spend a lot of money on 4-5 small plates. The asparagus pasta (I wish I had the name!) (4.5/5) was great and honestly surprised me. The sauce was SO creamy, the pasta was made very well and you can just tell that a lot of effort was put into the dish. The short ribs (4.5/5) was also very tasty. The sauce we had was kind of sweet and spicy which I liked. The chocolate budino (3.5/5) was good but my sweet tooth wishes it was sweeter. read more
