My husband and I were staying at The Lakehouse and for our first night made dinner reservations here. We also went for breakfast the following morning (we were a little confused because the front desk told us that breakfast was available here and we assumed a sort of continental breakfast, the exact opposite). For dinner we asked to be seated on the patio area which was nice. We attempted to order drinks however the server came back a few minutes later to let us know they were out of both of the different beers we wanted. Instead I ended up going for a cocktail which was very expensive for what I received. My date got pop instead and we didn't realize until we got the bill that they charge you for refills! Very tacky for somewhere that is attempting to be "upscale". For dinner we started with the octopus and chilled corn soup. I went with the scallops and wanted brussell sprouts on the side but of course they were out of those as well so I went with fries instead and my date got the brisket burger. Everything was delicious. Overall the dinner was delicious but I felt overpriced, among other things like being out of multiple drinks and dinner items and charging for pop refills. For breakfast we had the French toast and avocado toast with some coffee. Again it was a similar story - the food was good but the price point was not. Overall, I may be back if I stay at The Lakehouse again, but would be weary of the prices and that they may be out of several items. read more

Limited menu, smaller portions. We were there Friday last week, one of their specials was cod fish lightly fried according to the waiter. We were surprised to get a regular fish fry, supposedly for either $36 or $39. Had we known it was just a fish fry we would have ordered something else. I already cannot wait to get back to the Rose Tavern. My husband and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary dinner here this past weekend and we were definitely pleased! We made reservations a couple weeks ago for Saturday at 5:30pm. We got to the restaurant at 5pm and decided to get some drinks at the bar before dinner. The female bartender working at the time was so pleasant and very accommodating. She gladly took our picture for the occasion when I asked and made my cocktail to perfection. I ordered the Final Remark which had Black Button citrus gin, aperol, tequila and lime. It was delicious and refreshing! Once we were done with our first round of drinks we got seated for our dinner. Everything we ordered was so flavorful and amazing. Our appetizer was the charred Spanish octopus which wasn't chewy at all and had great texture. The blistered tomatoes with it took it to the next level! As for entrees, my husband ordered the pork and I had the halibut. My husband claimed it was the best pork chop he's ever had! He got his with the red wine au jus. My halibut dish tasted extremely fresh - it had a nice green herby sauce that brightened the whole dish up. I savored every bite! The only downside I will say is that our dishes did not come with a side, or salad and the restaurant did not serve bread so while portion size to me was just right, I still missed a side of some sort so we also ordered some fries to split and that definitely hit the spot. Drove up from Ithaca, NY to experience the new lake house hotel and to enjoy a meal at Rose Tavern with my daughter. We were greeted warmly and taken to our table. The atmosphere is definitely modern with navy and gold accents. The beautiful hardwood floors and spaciously arranged dining room made you feel comfortable and safe especially during COVID. Once seated we could see the beautiful lack and back of the property through the panes glass floor to ceiling windows and doors. We were greeted promptly and provided menus. The menu and wine list were explained. Since my daughter was visiting we ordered a lovely bottle of sparkling wine from France. The beverage manager stopped by to help us with our selection. The wine list included wines from NY stare and all over the world. There were plenty of options to choose from and the selections would fit most budgets. The menu was a bit limited for me since I eat predominately vegan but my daughter had plenty of choices. We started off with huge onions rings and then she enjoyed their burger & fries and I had a chopped salad topped with radishes and beets. The onion rings were crispy and plentiful. We both enjoyed them. My salad was bright and flavorful. I topped it with red wine vinegar. Her burger looked good and she said it tasted great. I stole a few of her French fries which were very fresh, salty and crispy. I love savory foods so they tasted delicious to me. Our water glasses were kept full and our server was very attentive. Plus we learned more about the area and the new hotel. It's definitely on my list for a romantic weekend getaway. I will most definitely return and bring friends. My friends and I stayed at The Lake House for the first time last weekend. We rarely have a chance to all get together these days between kids, work, and living in different cities, so it was a much needed reunion. We spent the afternoon visiting Other Half Brewing and rushed back to the hotel to prepare for our dinner reservation (that we had booked weeks in advance) at 6:45pm at the Rose Tavern. As we were running behind getting ready in the hotel room, we called down to the restaurant at 6:45pm to give the staff a heads up that we were running late but would be down shortly. This didn't seem to be an issue when discussed over the phone, however when we arrived to the reception desk 20 minutes later, we were notified that they had needed to give away our table since we were late and we would have to wait for another table to become available. Albeit this was odd, considering we had just spoken with someone over the phone to let them know we were on our way, we didn't mind having to wait for a new table and suggested we would have a few drinks at the bar in the meantime. Upon making ourselves comfortable at the bar, we noticed a 6-person table nearby that was empty. We thought perhaps that it was reserved for another group, but after waiting at the bar for roughly 30 minutes they eventually sat us at the empty table that had been available this entire time. Again odd, but not a big deal. We were in no rush and just happy to enjoy some drinks and dinner together. After being seated, we experienced some more strange occurrences. For example, the first waitress that came over to our table, didn't speak to anyone in the group when she poured our water and then proceeded to spill it on the table and not acknowledge it or clean it up. We found this odd too and noticed a similar pattern with the other servers, as well. Soon after we were seated, we were rushed to order, and then seemingly ignored for the remainder of the meal. Every server that came to our table to deliver a drink or plate of food, hardly said a word. They were clearly upset with us and the tension was palpable. We also noticed during this time that the restaurant didn't have any music playing throughout the evening, or if it did, it was at a volume that no one could hear it. This also created a bit of an uncomfortable or tense atmosphere, due to the open kitchen style layout and the fact that you could hear/see the chef and kitchen staff yelling every food order to one another. The bizarre behavior of the reception staff and servers could have only been from us being late to our reservation. Although it was a strange experience, the drinks and food were great and we still managed to enjoy ourselves. In fact, a few of us returned the next morning for breakfast and had a much better experience. The servers the following morning were attentive and very sweet. I would return for dinner to give them another try and I would suggest to never run late when dining here! read more

I had a wonderful brunch with friends here. We sat out on the back screened-in porch area which was wonderful. I ordered Tavern BLT, which is hour pork belly, sourdough, aioli, lettuce, and tomato. I had it with a side of fries, and it was heavenly. The pork belly was thick-cut and juicy, and the sourdough was fresh and fluffy. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well. Came here for breakfast because it was too cold to pick up pontoon rental and we wanted to pass time so it would warm up. Sat in the outdoor seating area which was super cute. The morning was a bit chilly, the ceiling heaters were not quite warm enough. You had to have a layer on to be comfortable. There was a basket of lap blankets which made things much more cozy. If you're looking for lakefront fine dining near Rochester, this is one of the few places around that fits that bill. Attached to the new Lake House hotel, this is right at the top of Canandaigua lake and has an amazing view down the length of the lake. The hotel is a bit of a destination stay and very high end, so you can expect there are some high expectations on quality. The wine options were great, and featured many local wineries. The food was perhaps not the most creative around, but was flavorful and well prepared - a skill I admire that can be hard to find these days. The overall theme was a sort of high end bar food one. There's a little room for improvement - I'd like to see more creativity and maybe some more visiting chefs - to make this a place to come back to regularly. read more

Only one real vegetarian option, cauliflower steak, and it was barely cooked almost raw and impossible to cut with very little flavor. My wife got the short-rib and that wasn't great either. Maybe because they depend on the summer for the bulk of their revenue or maybe it's because there is a captive audience in the summer. The room looks like they took old containers from ships and paneled the walls with them. Or it could have been a warehouse they painted and then set up some tables. Nothing inviting or warm to greet you except a myriad of people carrying tablets and trying to look busy. It's like watching actors play important business executives on the young and the lifeless. Service was perfunctory. On the drinks menu an aged Negroni for 30$. I asked server about what made it aged and he said "just a little wine for color". I was grateful for his honesty and ordered an old fashioned which was improperly made and essentially alcohol free. The beet salad and octopus appetizers were ok. Octopus not tough. Nicely flavored. Can't ruin fresh beets in a summer salad in July. Where they really get you is the entrees which come with nothing. We ordered roast pork nd half roast chicken. Pork was full of fat and chicken was tiny and uninspired. For 4$ you get your choice of sauce in a tiny cup. And 18$ bought us a bowl of clearly instant mashed potatoes with sour cream dumped on top. The fact that they are charging for sauce is such a scam or indicative of imminent closure. No we did not have dessert. Indifferent service devoid of ambiance with nothing special in the food department. Waste of time and money. read more

We started with two appetizers -- the mozzarella house straciatella and the house sausage, then the bone in pork chop and po valley risotto for entrees. The straciatella was the highlight for me, and my husband said he enjoyed his pork chop, but the risotto fell flat. The ambiance and decor was nice, but no lake views at least at this time of year because the windows facing out were covered. What a special place for a nice meal. We went for lunch on a bright sunny day and view was great. The service is great and food was great. The nightlight of the meal, was pretty much everything. If you are French fry fan, the fries are extra crispy cooked in beef tallow. Everything was well the condiments, to the napkins, cotton linens made in Italy. I just returned from The Lake House Mother's Day Brunch. What a bummer!! Having gone to their Father's Day Brunch a couple of years ago I was looking forward to this new format of having this brunch in the Event Center (where I've attended a few weddings which were beautifully executed). First you couldn't enter the room until the first seating started and there was no where to sit and wait. Walking into the room it looked like a high school cafeteria. The space was physically cold, there was absolutely no ambience, no table settings, just a bare wooden table with a sad pot of pansies at it's center. The food was 'ok' as in very average at best. The plates were huge and heavy so you couldn't get a plate for yourself and your child or grandchild. I ended up putting my son's food on my plate. Since you got a fork and knife rolled up in a napkin, (no spoons) it was a pretty crude transfer of my son's food when I got a second plate. We were in and out of there in an hour. No reason to linger, the message was clear...get your food and get out. A significant fall from their glory days I remember from just two years ago. When we were first seated, we were next to a loud bachelorette group, and my husband asked if we could move indoors. They accommodated our request and our new table was much better! The menu is small but had a good selection. We had the burrata, Parker house rolls and a Caesar salad to start. The burrata was literally just burrata cheese with nothing really accompanying it. The Caesar was good. I had the salmon for my entree and my husband had a steak. His steak was cooked perfectly, my salmon was just okay. Service was good! The environment is lovely but we happened to arrive in town after a long drive on a drizzly day. The hostess seemed taken back with what to say when she asked if we had a reservation and we said no, though the restaurant had few patrons when we arrived around noon. Perhaps they were booked and hadn't arrived yet? Given the good reviews, her demeanor wasn't very welcoming and we almost left for another place nearby. Another person came up and asked if we'd like inside or out. It seemed dicey to eat outside but she assured us it was covered and had heaters. We decided to agree to do that since it was being encouraged. At first that was comfortable but then the wind picked up substantially along with a lightning and thunder storm. We weren't getting wet but being from Tampa FL it was no longer comfortable it's dangerous to be outside like that. Our server Christy, was very engaging. She quickly greeted us and brought menus. We asked some questions about the wine list, as we were focusing on the much talked about Dr. Konstantin Fran wines and the charcuterie tray. Since we were very unfamiliar with those wines, she offered to ask the bartender and came back some time later with Nick's recommendation. We ordered a bottle of his suggestion and the charcuterie plate which was very good but was pricy for the items on it, lots of sauce/jams and pickles with not much cheese. But we did enjoy what was on it. The major problem was that Christy came back after quite a long time to say the bartender was still trying to find the bottle of wine. After another extended interval she was sorry to tell us that they were out of that bottle. Considering it had been at least 30 min, REALLY? The bartender doesn't know if he is out of a wine that is on their standard list? We ordered just 2 glasses of a different wine and were quite disappointed. We are likely to have another vacation exploring the area, but I can't say I'd return to the Rose Tavern. If it weren't for Christy's pleasantness, I'd have made this a 2 star review. read more

This was our second time visiting Rose Tavern at The Lake House and it again exceeded our expectations. The food is locally sourced and refined, with a staff that is very friendly and welcoming. Our server from our first visit was our server tonight and she remembered us right away, definitely a warm climate. My new favorite item is the Ricotta Toast. It's crunchy, light, and savory which was a wonderful starter. We ordered the Lobster Croquet/Filet/Lobster Claw special and the Grassland Farms Beef.
