Bring your fascinator hat to enjoy the experience! :))

This tea spot is a homey, old-world vibe. Rose Cottage Tea House feels like stepping into someone's lovingly room tended garden -- and that's probably because Edmand, our host, actually loves his garden and it shows. His service was warm, attentive, and full of little personal touches that made the visit memorable. He likes to share A LOT of stories. There are a few quirky house rules to note -- no photos allowed inside and no traditional tiered trays for the tea service, which may surprise some expecting a classic presentation. The fingers sandwiches are only two slices so the price point is extremely high. A very nice lady walks and makes her round filling your tea cup or offering sweets. But the food comes out beautifully and everything tasted fresh and homemade - so do want to support this establishment. There is a gift shop adjacent to the tea room full of British biscuits and knick knacks. ;) Overall, a delightful experience that's a bit different from your typical high tea, thanks to Edmand's hospitality and the enchanting garden atmosphere.

Very traditional style and the service, tea, savories and sweets were amazing! Loved the chat with the owner and staff as well. I was so full! Free street parking is nice. No photos or phone usage inside!

My partner took me out for a valentines high tea here and we received excellent service in a cozy, intimate space. There was a preset menu, and they bring out the dishes one at a time. Some of my favorites were the Yorkshire pudding with beef Wellington, sticky toffee pudding, and the Turkish delight!! It was a lovely experience

Rose Tree Cottage is such a unique, AMAZING place for tea. If you're looking for a charming, magical, fun tea experience - GO HERE!!! It's unlike any tea I've done in LA. My friend took me here for my birthday and it was so fun to get dressed up (we found cute fascinators to wear!) and from the moment we walked up, the entire area is covered in old British memorabilia and the staff is INCREDIBLE. So friendly and attentive, and the real star of the show is Edmond! What a sweet gentleman who made sure my birthday was so special. The tea and food were absolutely DELICIOUS (my favorite was the first savory pastry pie - the beef one is incredible, the fruit and dark chocolate cup is perfect, and the sticky toffee pudding is to die for). I don't want to give too many little surprises away but we truly felt like such special princesses our entire time here. There is also a very fun gift shop where you can buy scones, clotted cream, shortbreads, and other British novelty items. Parking is very easy to find on the street. It truly feels like we were transported to a little cottage in England and it was such a special experience. I absolutely recommend Rose Tree Cottage for a special time.

If you need a place to go to afternoon tea, stop looking. Go here! I took my friends here as a Christmas/Birthday present and it was the best decision I made! We had their Christmas tea and upon arrival we were greeted by Edmund, one of the owners, and my new best friend. He let us know that there would be no use of our cell phones inside. While on one hand, I was sad I couldn't take any pictures of our experience or tasty food, I did feel fully connected with my wonderful friends as we enjoyed this experience! The interior was delightfully decorated and each party was seated one by one by Edmund. Tea was poured continually by the kind servers throughout the service and the meal was delivered in portions. That part I enjoyed very much, so there wasn't any large towers blocking our view. We all had a delightful time! You may be turned away by having to call or the price tag, but it's 100% worth it! The quality is UNMATCHED! We will definitely be coming back!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of having afternoon tea with my sister and a friend. Having afternoon tea here is a whole delightful experience. Beginning with calling to make the reservation, you will likely speak with the husband and wife team who have run the place for 50 years! There's a dress code -no shorts for women, men need a jacket and tie. They are preparing you for tea In the royal palace. The house setting makes you feel like you're in someone's grandmothers' living room. We started with Sparking Elderberry. I could drink this every day! English tea, fruit, followed by several savory food options. I enjoyed the Beef Wellington and Coronation Chicken the most. The finger sandwiches were ok. All of the sweets were good and I was impressed by one that came as a chocolate cup filled with cream and berries, finished with a sauce on top. All around great tea experience. Only sad part was being asked to turn off our phones. This means no pictures of all the goodies from the experience inside.

My receipt and candy bars showing old expiration dates.

My husband and I have bought tea, jam and a wool scarf from here in the past several years and never had a complaint until today. I bought a box of Taylor's tea, a small box of another tea, strawberry jam, 2 samples teas and 2 Cadbury candy bars. When I got home I noticed the candy bars were both expired. One said expired in 2021 and the other 2023. I also noticed on my receipt that I was charged double the price for the one packet tea samples. I called the next day and spoke with the gentleman owner and told him what happened and he was nice on the phone, said to come in and he would refund my money. So I went in today and first no one answered the door. I called and he came to open the door. I told him I had called about the expired candy and he grabbed it out of my hand and threw it on the counter. Didn't even look at it. I guess he knows he's selling expired food. When I told him I was returning the candy and the 2 samples I was over charged for he grabbed the $11 from the register and threw it at me and said give me your receipt. Yanked it out of my hand and said goodbye. I said goodbye, I will NEVER be back here again. He is RUDE and FAKE! Old, run down place, selling expired food.

Ask the Community - Rose Tree Cottage

Can someone clarify if they have gluten free options for tea service? There are conflicting reviews. Thanks!

You can call ahead to ask if there are substitutions, but the scones/sandwiches/savory pies are all wheat-based.

Is there indoor dining or all garden dining?

There is a medium sized indoor dining room, and they can accommodate accordingly so long as you mention it ahead of time.

Do they offer gluten free options?

No. The scones and sandwiches are all regular wheat.

What is included with afternoon tea?

With afternoon tea you get tea with as many refils as you would like, fresh baked scones with cream and preserves , savory finger food (we had 4 varieties of yorkshire pudding) and the last course is dessert with shortbread, fruit, petit four and…

Do they offer vegan food?

No. Vegetarian options but nothing is egg or dairy free.

How early ahead do you recommend making reservations for a party of 2?

they only take reservations 7 days ahead, not earlier, not later (if you want to dine next Saturday, you must call this Saturday at 10am)

What are the prices there is nothing listed on their website?

$50 per person for afternoon tea, cash

Suitable for 4 year old?

Depends, there were some young children there when we were there and they enjoyed it, but I think they were a little older than 4. If the 4 year old can sit at the table for an hour with no screens or tantrums or running around then they should be…

How much does afternoon tea cost?

$50 cash, per person. Reservations required.

We chose outdoor since it was such a nice day out. They have all of their desserts on display in the case, so you can peruse the options and see what looks good. So many of the desserts looked good, like the matcha yuzu chiffon crepe cake or the rose and lychee crepe cake. We ordered via the kiosk and got the mango sunshine souffle pancake ($16.50) and well as a couple drinks. My drink was the white peach lemon jasmine bliss ($6.25), with 50% sweetness and less ice. Even though there are signs everywhere saying that it takes 15-20 minutes for the souffle pancakes to be cooked, ours came out super quickly, in 5 minutes or so. We got it with the sauce on the side, but I regret doing that as I saw others getting it with the sauce on top and it was beautiful. The pancake was super fluffy and a bit eggy as well. We all really enjoyed it with the mango sauce. I made the mistake of eating the pancake first before trying a sip of my tea. The pancake was pretty sweet, so I could barely taste my drink, but I think it was good? I could taste a bit of the lemon but definitely not the white peach, which is a lighter flavor. I got a slice of their Hokkaido cheese cake roll for $7 to go and had it the next day. It was okay but definitely a bit pricy for what you get. I'd love to come back to try their other desserts and pancakes!

The drinks were served to us, but we had to go to the counter to pick up our dessert. There are a lot of cute cakes/desserts and drink options. I wouldn't say the drinks were the best, but pretty average. All the cakes/pancakes were so cute. I would come back to try more. We ordered the sea salt Oreo mini cake. It tasted more like an Asian roll cake. Not too sweet but I didn't taste much sea salt. Plus- clean restroom available for customers Parking: street parking or lots around. The closest parking garage is on De Lacey next to the miniso.

They also have egg puffles but unfortunately they ran out of it by the time I went there. There is a parking structure next to it. It is a pick up type of tea shop because It doesn't have seating. They have several baristas. The staff were nice and friendly. I was indecisive at first because they have many delicious and refreshing drinks, But I ultimately chose Pink Dragon fruit. The price is reasonable compared to the quality and quantity of the drink. The drink itself was fanatic. I really enjoyed it. Yes! I will definitely go back to try more of their drinks.

How I Met My Pink Dragon…read more Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming... I mean walking, walking, walking, and more walking around Old Pasadena on a hot July day. As I was lurking around, something told me to stop. Jin The Tea Shop appeared right when I needed something to stop me from wandering. I paused and looked up. There it was, the beautiful Chinese calligraphy on the sign hanging out front of Jin The Tea Shop. The calligraphy is carved beautifully in 3D. It protrudes off the warm off-white panel in glossy black. The afternoon sun casts soft shadows onto it, making it seem like it is floating off the sign. With the humming sound of the breeze, it is calling me softly with its song. The calligraphy is 净 (JIN). It means clean, and also only or merely, as in nothing else in it. Yes, I know Chinese, thanks to Google Translate. Jin Tea Shop sits on West Green Street, at the cross street of South Fair Oaks Avenue, under a huge shade tree. It is a small, quiet shop, and the air conditioning was a nice break from the heat. The staff was quick and friendly. The downside was that there were no chairs, benches, or tables to sit at. Customers had to stand to wait for their orders. Also, no public restroom. Looking at the posted menu, the toppings are 65 cents each: boba, hantien jelly, osmanthus jelly, chia seeds, barley popping boba, coconut milk jelly, and cheese foam. I was first drawn to the Sunny Honey ($7.15), made with brown sugar and organic chrysanthemum tea, because I love chrysanthemum tea and the image is as bright and sunny as honey. Then I was debating between that and the Love Potion ($7.30), made with passion fruit juice and organic butterfly pea flower tea. That Cupid spell ring mesmerized me. I wanted to see if the love potion works. Then comes the warning: "Not suitable for pregnant women or those on anticoagulants or medication." Love Potion with a warning? That's a red flag! Next! Then, sitting at the very corner of the menu, there lies the Pink Dragon ($7.55), made with real lychee, dragon fruit, and four season oolong tea for an exquisite taste. The ombré dragged me in for a closer look. It starts creamy at the top, turns blush pink, deepens into rose, then fuchsia, and lands on a deep plum at the bottom, darkest right at the base. Save the Beast for last. And I chose the Beast. Dark on the outside, soft within. When it arrives, my Pink Dragon looks pretty, tall, and slim...not beastly. It is sweet and delicious as advertised. Come find the Pink Dragon, if you ever find yourself wandering aimlessly around Old Pasadena on a hot day. Stay cool!

Since we were in the area, my husband, our little girl dog and I decided to order our drinks online and then just pick up in store. Although this is our first time visiting this location, we are no stranger to Sunright in general and typically have had positive experiences with their drinks. We ended up ordering: Mango Jasmine Tea, $6.25- I ordered this drink for my husband to be made with no ice and 50% sweetener. This drink was too sweet. It tasted like it was made with 100% sweetness. Matcha Latte w/ Pistachio Cheese Foam, $6.95- I ordered this drink for myself to be made with less ice (as no ice was no ice was not an option) and 25% sweetener. This drink was also very sweet and so I ended up added hot water to it when I got home to dilute the sweetness. --------------------------------- (Total= $13.20, tax included) After ordering, I had received a text message within 8 minutes letting me know that my order was ready. I was rather disappointed with my order and so was my husband. Although the flavor of the tea drinks itself was fine, the level of sweetness was just too sweet for us. I am not sure if the employee had just given us 100% sweetness or not, but this isn't typical of our experience at other locations, including Arcadia and San Gabriel. I hope this was just a one time error and that it doesn't happen again. Please note that the employee who gave us our order was friendly and she also seemed very happy when she saw our dog with us (as most people usually seem to be in spirits when they see her).

We ordered for pickup for 1 Thai Tea with boba. My partner loved it; the amount of boba they put in was a great ratio to Thai Tea. It wasn't overly sweet like some other spots we have tried. I tried 2 different drinks because I don't like ordering the same thing every time. I tried the strawberry slushie. I enjoyed it very much the strawberry flavoring didn't taste like chemicals like some places make it. It was perfect for a hot summer day. The next drink I tried was the mango jasmine tea which I thought was delicious. It had the perfect mango flavoring that wasn't overly powerful as you can still taste the jasmine and tea. Only gripe I have is the location. They are in prime time real estate on Colorado. Which makes parking more difficult as you can't pop in and pop out with to go orders. The employees were extremely friendly and apologetic about how difficult it was to find it when you try to park. There are 2 different parking garages to park in that area and walk to them to save yourself the hassle.

The boba was also very nicely cooked, just the right amount of chew and a very light sweet flavor. I ordered 25% sweet most places, and that was a perfect sweetness level for me here. Next time I'll order the large size and see if the ratio makes a difference. My tea was ready super quick!
