My husband and I were on holiday and we stopped in Jackson to enjoy the town. We looked at the menu and wow..wonderful selections! Hubby had a house salad with bleu cheese dressing. He said it was fabulous. Tried his Irish Soda Bread...delish! He really liked his cheddar/bacon/mushroom soup. I ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich. Not greasy at all. Had ham, cheese and caramelized onions with two slices of French toast and topped with a berry compote that knocked my socks off. The fresh ingredients, artfully presented was an added bonus. The staff was friendly and very helpful with the choices available. If you want a delicious breakfast/brunch/lunch, Rosebuds is the place to visit. Historic Main Street Jackson is woefully short on places to eat but if you get there before 3pm* you will be in luck. Because then you can eat at Rosebud's. And you will have a delightful breakfast, brunch, or lunch in a cheerful family owned place. As much as possible is sourced locally, often from the owners' own farm. Everything we tried, and also what we saw on other tables, is a unique tasty take on what might sound like standard lunch-time fare. Fish & chips has a light batter, no chips unless you want them, homemade cole slaw (I chose strawberries for my side, which were very tasty). Spinach salad is a generous portion topped with a LOT of bacon. Burger and salad is a homemade burger with local beef. Prices seem a teensy bit high but when you see and taste the originality of the recipes and presentation, any price concerns should quickly fade away. They even serve beer and wine. And it's air conditioned! *Closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Highly recommended. read more

This place is pretty awesome! My wife and I stopped in after visiting Moaning Caverns in Calaveras and we were very glad we did. The food was great as well as the atmosphere. When we arrived around 13:15, there was a live band playing. The food comes dressed up nicely with a flower on it, and the customer service was not disappointing. This place is fantastic!!! Not only are they they only restaurant offering ORGANIC food, but they know how to prepare it well! Some people might think that organic food is tasteless, etc., but those folks are sadly mistaken. They are a little pricey, but thats what you get if you don't want to feed your family pesticides, herbicides, preservatives and all the other health destroying ingredients in our food today. These guys use the food they grow on their own farm, so it's extra fresh and healthy! Give them a try....I bet you will be surprised! read more

We've ate here twice. And I'm baffled by all the five star reviews! First , on this visit the service was slow. The waitress was unfriendly and did not refill our drinks (ice tea). It took over 20 minutes for our order and it was the only one to come out of the kitchen and it came before two other tables that ordered before us. My wife ordered BLT, the bread was soggy and the bacon was oily and over cooked. My chicken sandwich was supposed to be on focaccia, but that wasn't anything close to focaccia, some sort of hybrid ciabatta . Three sandwiches three drinks, $45. And at the register..cookies look burnt. And to top it off the cashier runs my card and after several minutes their machine is not working so she says to me " can you pay for this another way" no apology, no how was your meal, no thank you. First visit about a year ago was similar, so been there one time, been there two times, never going back again! read more

Started out really good with prompt service, but then followed with strawberry infused water minus the hint of strawberry. We were then talked into the French donuts called beignets. Trying not to be to critical, they were not soft enough. Definitely had better. The house-made strawberry jam was really good. We then decided to share a po' boy sandwich with brisket. The potential was there except for the fact that we had one layer of good thinly sliced brisket. I have never had that little of meat on a sandwich. Sandwiched into a $16.00 sandwich. The meat looked as if they strategically placed it on the sandwich so that it slightly hung out the sides to make it look like more. The bread was nice and soft. We took the ingredients from one side and doubled up the other. Bottom line: Disappointed for the price but the potential is there. Good luck! read more

We get to Jackson three or four times a year but it's been much longer than that since we've eaten at Rosebud's Cafe. We came up today to walk around and look at a few antique shops and then decided to have lunch. Although the food has always been good in the past, it was stellar today. I had the strawberry, greens, feta, candied walnut salad. It's called Blue something because the strawberries are grown in big blue pots at their Farm which is 15 miles away. I knew it would be good but I never imagined it being as delicious as it was. My husband had the French dip and fries and he absolutely loved it. He said the meat was the most tender he'd ever had in a sandwich. Both of these dishes were ordered from the orange menu which has items that are not on the regular menu. We were going to skip dessert but since the meal was so wonderful I asked what they had and one of the desserts was a Guinness chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting with swirls of Jameson's icing. It was dense and moist and out of this world. As A1 as the lunch was I am still thinking about that dessert! read more

We have given this place three chances but after the last breakfast I just can't give it a positive review. I am not sure why they have such positive reviews, perhaps the concept, farm to table, portion size - huge, don't know but the food is just not tasty or well prepared. Think the quality of the food is high I just think the chef/cook is not good. That being said, we won't be back, sorry to say as we so wanted to love this place being that it is farm to table. read more

Update to the earlier Irish Pub speculation. That idea has changed. Now the word is that they are reopening an eatery that is described as serving whole and natural foods "from the farm to the table." By the way, the newly remodeled National Hotel, which dominates the south end of historic Main Street, will also feature destination lodging, fine dining and a high-end lounge as part of its major multi-million dollar makeover. With the National set as the hamlet's crown jewel, historic Jackson will soon reclaim its place as THE happening hub it was in former years, possibly eclipsing other nearby Mother Lode communities. read more

My husband and I went here for breakfast midweek. We both got coffee, and I ordered the montecristo sandwich. It was drowned in ultra sweet berry compote. The berries were from the owners' farm, which I appreciated, but they made the sandwich soggy and overly sweet. I couldn't taste much else. My husband got the omelette with marinara and sausage. He didn't end up liking the spaghetti sauce/omelette combo very much, and thought it was a pairing that wasn't well executed. I have to say that the coffee was the worst I have ever tasted. It left a horribly bitter taste in my mouth. I've been drinking coffee for more than 15 years, and I think that a decent cup of coffee adds a lot to a good breakfast experience. Honestly, the coffee at Denny's is weak, but it doesn't leave such a terrible aftertaste. I ended up asking for tea, and the waitress didn't bother asking if anything was wrong with my coffee, although she could clearly see that I drank about a third of a cup the whole time we were there. Our total for the two coffees, tea, sandwich and omelette was in the 40-dollar range. We left feeling pretty sad about having spent a good chunk of change on okay food and terrible coffee. Wonderful place... but be prepared to wait .... to be seated then to eat... and to get food you did not expect. we stopped on our way back from Lake Tahoe. It took 45 minutes to get two sandwiches. I ordered the turkey and cheese with carmelized onions. It came with hot Serrano peppers, not onions. While for some I am sure it would be wonderful, sadly I have a hard time with spicy. When we told our server he said "oh well the kitchen messes up sometimes" We did not have 45 minutes to wait for a replacement and were not offered a refund. Great place, but I think it has gotten so busy they don't really care about customers as much as they used to. Bummer. I hope they get better, but we are not going back anytime soon. read more

Overall - excellent. We were there on an off day for Jackson, a Thursday. We arrived in town at around 11 am and were already hungry for lunch. Our timing was good and we got the window table. Our wonderful server, Ash, started off by explaining that we were sitting on the spot once occupied by the famous hangman tree, on which around 20 hangings occurred. A plaque designating that history was on the sidewalk just outside our window. Ash also gave us recommendations for what to see in town. My wife ordered a spinach salad and I had an omelet with Rosebud's signature "spuds". We both enjoyed our meals and the quaint/eclectic ambience. I'd go back there just for the spuds! We feel that Rosebud's Café lived up to the good reviews we had read, and we recommend it. read more

Farm-to-table restaurant in Jackson. They tell you about where they grow the food and invite you to help them with their potato crop. Best French dip ever (they call it something else but the au jus is spectacular). Husband's burger was really good. French fries wonderful. Blueberry pie was fair; the crust was a little chalky and pale--I would use a different pastry dough with a bit more sugar and glaze with egg white for a prettier finish. Super-friendly service, not in a big city hurry. The room is an informal cafe, lots of greens and purples. read more

We dined there on a Sunday just before noon. Coffee was very weak and they were very stingy with it. We had a patti melt and a hamburger. The patti melt came with shredded cabbage they called 'cole slaw'; it had no flavor. The patti melt was good but the hamburger wasn't anything to brag about. The place is over priced and the waitress was more interested in her smart phone than filling our coffee cups or glasses of water. I'm a local and won't be dining there again. read more

Horrible experience. I cannot speak to the quality of the food because I was rudely dismissed for asking about the menu prices. We were trying to understand how the pricing worked for an omelette, we were trying to verify that each item was a $3.00 add on. When the waitress realized that we were surprised by a $17 avocado and bacon omelette, she said to us, "maybe this isn't the place for you" and immediately took our menus our silverware and a glass of water away and rudely walked off! I was astonished and have never ever been treated so rudely by a service person! Not sure if this was the owner or an employee, it was a woman in her late 50's, she had short gray hair and was plump. I only describe her because if she is not the owner I want the owner to know how her employee treated us as customers. If she was the owner it would be surprising that her business could have any success! By the way we went to Mel's diner across the street, had an omelette and French toast and the bill was $18 and the food was excellent and the service was great! read more

Ordered the 1894 Eggs Benedict and was very disappointed. No hollandaise sauce (I was informed they only serve it on weekends) so along side was a cup of what looked (and tasted) like ranch dressing. The eggs were over-cooked. I would call them soft boiled rather than poached, and were placed on top of a few leaves of raw spinach. the waitress said the bread was sourdough made in house but it tasted like Wonder Bread. Well, we really expected better. I have really good memories of stopping here when I was a kid, but I think it was always for breakfast. I'm almost 70 so it's been about 60 years since those memories were made. My first thought last weekend was that this place could get some help from Gordon Ramsey on Kitchen Nightmares. Maybe not that bad, but the menu tried way too hard and I don't think they could pull it off. My cousin and I had the fish and chips, and the fish was way, way too soft. No crispy batter on the outside, and it was so mushy I kept thinking it wasn't cooked or seasoned well enough. My sister's Orchard Chicken Sando was wonderful, and she was very happy with it. She was not happy, however, with the russet fries, which we all chose, and were reminiscent of those shoestring potatoes you get from a can. The O'Keefe Slaw? Not a fan. It was tired and flat. The iced tea was great, although we didn't see the waitress for a refill until the end of the meal. I had to ask her for more tea because she didn't offer it. I'm not saying we wouldn't go back because the interactions we had with the wait staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we really like the area. If and when we go back, it will be for pancakes or eggs. read more

While we were driving through on our way to go to Tahoe we stopped at this cafe for some breakfast. Everyone there is quite nice and friendly. The food there is delicious and so worth it. My personal favorite is the french toast, it was the perfect consistency for the homemade challah bread it was made out of. This food is absolutely amazing. I had the eggs benedict. The best I've ever had. Their food is home grown so you aren't getting GMO'S or nitrates in your body. Veggies are grown at their farm.
