The best part of Rose's is definitely the view, but to be fair, every restaurant along the waterfront has the same beautiful scenery, so the view alone isn't enough to make up for the experience. Right after I arrived, the restaurant got absolutely slammed as it was closing. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed trying to keep up with everyone, but she stayed friendly and professional throughout, and I really appreciated her positive attitude under the circumstances. Unfortunately, the food was a big disappointment, especially for the price. The clam chowder was served cold and lacked flavor. My halibut entrée came with a surprisingly small portion of fish, the vegetables (carrots, squash, broccoli) were cold, and the mashed potatoes were bland and together tasted like a very basic side dish for a $38 plate. The busboy brought the main dish right after the soup, so I had to rush to eat the soup. The waiters should stagger the plates. Overall, the meal felt overpriced and underwhelming. The staff did their best during a very busy rush, but the kitchen simply didn't deliver. read more

Nice water front location, with large window seating if it's too wet or cold outside. Picked this place after 3 picky eaters who didn't want anything to do with seafood rejected everything else on restaurant row in this beach town. I am glad we did. Seems to be part of an inn - but we never went deeper into checking that out. Staff is really friendly and takes good care of you. Also recommended some cool places to check out in the neighborhood. I got the local oysters - and they let you order by the piece, which helps when I am the only one eating them. They were really fresh and plump. Kids got the Alfredo, which clearly hit the spot for them. Plates were wiped clean when we were leaving - so they were either really hungry or it was good. Hit the fish tacos that were good. We arrived on a Thursday night, and they offered a table overlooking the ocean. The staff was very very nice, and provided some painting crayon and toys for my son. The food was delicious. Both my clam chowder and my wife's shrimp scampi were good, and we were happy with our food The place was fairly busy, and still the service was good. The fish was cooked perfectly, not dry at all. I loved the cabbage and other vegetables to brighten the flavors. The sauce was delicious and the garlic fries were not over powering. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of my worst restaurant experiences. We came on Father's Day, and despite the restaurant not being busy, service was extremely slow. They lost my dad's order, and while the rest of us ate, he was given chowder and had to wait another 15 minutes for his meal. The biggest issue was the chicken. The next day, while reheating my leftovers, I discovered my piece of chicken was raw. We tried calling the restaurant but got no response. We will never be eating here again. read more

We came for a drink and a little snack just to kill some time. It was open seating when we arrived which was nice. As we had our little fur ball was with us so the patio was perfect. They did have heat lamps overhead but I don't think our section was turned on. I did mentioned it to one of the gentleman to see if they could turn it on but he never came back. Sophia was our waitress. Very sweet and friendly. As we were only here for drinks and a little snack, it was a quick browse through the menu. She did mention that it was happy hour and they had some items that were great. Both the Bloody Mary and margaritas were quite nice. It wasn't the happy hour menu but it was still nice. Onion rings were great, perfectly battered and cooked well. Nice crunch to it. Also that was from the regular menu. We did get an order of fries and calamari from the happy hour menu. Fries, it's was good. Calamari was nice, lightly battered and served with a sweet chili sauce and something else. Both sauces were good. Service was nice as Sophia was very friendly. All The other waitress was sweet as well out at the patio section. It's also a perfect spot for people with their dogs. Everything was nice, drinks with a view, nice bite. And to finished the meal off, a freakin seagull little left us a a surprise. Good thing it hit the chair armrests instead. Plus, on Tuesday they do all you can eat crab legs. The location is amazing, unfortunately the food wasn't. The oyster was decent, but I was disappointed with the Fish and Chips; the food was almost room temperature when they brought it out (and when you order fish and chips, you expect it to be piping hot), so that was a bit of a letdown. We got here about 8 pm and it was kinda empty on the side we sat on. There was large party on the other side of the wall that was pretty loud. The floor had some napkins and straw papers under one of the tables not being used. We were seated ourselves as the sign stated and were quickly greeted with menus and our drink order taken. Then our server brought our drinks and took our order. I ordered the halibut with fresh vegetables and mashed potatoes. Mark got fish and chips with a bowl of clam chowder. My food was delicious. Mark was disappointed. He the clam chowder was tasteless and had more fillers the clams. He say "his fish wasn't greasy". But everything else was so-so. Would I eat here again yeah. I stopped in at 8pm on a weekday, because it was one of the only places open. I ordered the shrimp and chips. The prawns were decadent and juicy (like 10/10, highly recommend!), and the French fries were pretty standard. Service was okay, it was busy though. The view is absolutely gorg! Stayed nearby on a road trip. It's what I expected. That's to say, it's a sports bar on a harbor in a pretty coastal town. It's not a gourmet restaurant specializing in locally sourced seafood. We got the calamari and chips, and the hot crab sandwich with garlic fries. It hit the spot. Server had a good recommendation on the beer, and he clearly knew the differences between the IPAs. I'd say this probably deserves to be 4-4.5 stars, it's definitely better than its current average rating. Giving it 5 stars to bring it up. I would've given Roses only two stars if it weren't for Guilermo the very attentive and considerate bar tender. He recognized that it was taking a ridiculous amount of time to get our food - 40 minutes and counting for two people and it wasn't terribly busy. After a very genuine apology he offered us a second round of drinks on him. I decided to splurge on one of my favorites - grilled halibut. $32 at Roses. What finally arrived was laughable. It was a thin, flaky baked filet of either cod or sole. Definitely not a grilled halibut steak. After double checking the menu for a potential mix-up we determined that there isn't even a baked white fish option offered?!?!? An obvious ruse on their part. Especially when the prep chef insisted it was halibut. As if further disappointment was even necessary, the "killer garlic fries" were neither. Instead of being rolled in olive oil with fresh garlic as advertised, they were a slimy pile of Macdonald type fries in vegetable oil with maybe a pinch garlic powder not a single chunk of fresh chopped. Next time we will wait in line at Dorn's and not be so disappointed. read more

The only thing that was enjoyable was the server. The food was pretty disappointing. We got chips guac and salsa to start with.. the salsa tasted like they added tomato sauce to it, the aftertaste was like tomato soup. I got the taco trio, chicken and beef, the meat was completely bland, they added slices of red jalapenos with seeds in them on the top of each taco, they were pretty much inedible. The beans and rice were a bummer as well, the rice was hard, they added a dollop of the tomato sauce based salsa on top which made it even worse. The rice had bits of corn and some kind of other type of flat green kind of bean which was unrecognizable and strange. The fact that I paid over $23 for the tacos alone was the worse part of the whole experience. Totally bummed. Won't be back. Whomever is cooking in the kitchen should take some culinary classes, or at least try to enjoy what they do and put some love into the food or at least some seasoning. Perhaps they are good at deep frying food and serving alcohol, but that's about it. read more

Went to Rose's on a Monday afternoon for lunch with the family. We were given an option of inside or out on the patio. We chose the patio, with an exquisite view of the bay and Morro Rock. Our server was attentive, accommodating, and our food was brought out in a timely manner. We ordered chips & guacamole, they were great! I thoroughly enjoyed the fish tacos, minus the fish. I asked if they would be able to do veggies...totally gourmet tasting, and beautifully presented as well! It had perfectly tender carrots, squash, peppers, and pickled onions and garnish on top. Other meals ordered were buttered noodles and cheeseburger- both from the kid's menu. Also ordered at our table was an order of Fish and Chips, with their famous garlic fries. I have come to Rose's for years, and through remodels, updated menus, patio upgrades...I am still super content, thoroughly impressed, and super satisfied. Everyone at our table loved their meals and had left overs to take home. Pretty much every single seat, either at a table or the bar, has an insanely awesome view. Love, love, love Rose's. Got a $20 voucher from the hotel, so obviously wanted to check this place out. Cali Chicken Sandwich was amazing, but service was abysmal. This place took the longest out of any restaurant during my week long trip to get my food out and to even order. To be fair, they were pretty busy around lunch, but it was bad enough to be notable vs the other lunch places I went to. Worst part is the prices though. I literally only ordered the sandwich and still had to pay extra. Not enough food to justify the cost. read more

We'd read about the beautiful ocean views and went here for dinner. The staff was attentive and friendly, the restaurant was very busy, and the pace for service throughout our meal was slower than a glacier.... Tip: The high point of this restaurant is the ocean view, but in retrospect there's not really a whole lot else to recommend it :-( For dinner I went with their "famous" fish and chips. The fries were nicely cooked and tasty, but the breading for the fish was soggy and the fish within was bland and limp - I couldn't finish it. The batter was tasteless, and in serious need of additional seasoning. If you just want to go somewhere to sit and have a cocktail while looking out over the ocean, this place is OK, but I can't recommend either the food or the service. read more

Rose's has really changed and this time, it was underwhelming. We always order the same thing: a calamari appetizer and the lobster and shrimp tacos. The calamari is now rings rather than strips. It was overcooked and under seasoned. The calamari sauces were both still good. The tacos were under filled compared to past visits. The sauce was also different. It was very heavy on the capers and wasn't as flavorful as we remember. We added a side of rice and beans this time and weren't impressed. The rice was bland and had more capers in it. The black beans were okay. We did like the heat of the salsa that came on it. It had a good kick. My husband and I have gone here for years and this will probably be the last time. read more
