I stopped by here for the first time this week - I had a work appointment at Zingerman's Bakehouse,…read moreand figured I'd try out the Creamery and the candy store next door too. I am a big Swiss fan so I asked if they had any - I ended up buying a small piece of one, which ended up being tasty, and also an aged cheddar they had, called Prairie Farms - they had a sample of it and it was DELICIOUS, which swayed me to try it. They also sell tiny little charcuterie boxes here and even big things of gelato. Everything looked really good. Staff is also very friendly - the girl behind the counter is a recent UM grad so we talked about that, I'm a 2009 alum. $6-7 for a small block of cheese is pretty standard for gourmet cheeses too, so I didn't think it was super pricey (although they did have some for $15+). I definitely want to stop by here again the next time I'm in A2.

Mostly, cheese for me. Today I picked up: six ounces of a very creamy Goat cream cheese, a smoked salmon cream cheese and a Goat feta. Since we had a cooler, I also bought a half pound of Detroit Street Brick cheese. It begins as a dense, crumbly cheese with a twist of lemon and ages into more of a savory, spicy flavour. The star of the show is the gelato. I say the best is the Coffee flavour. Closely followed by the Peanut Butter chocolate and the Dark chocolate. Today we split a Cherry Cream Cheese Gelato. It really hit the spot. The prices are a bit steep. You're paying for quality, not quantity. Always an education talking cheese with these folks! 08/24

This is a super cute spot that specializes in smoked meat and sausages... yes please. We ordered at the counter and the employees were very friendly and helpful with great suggestions. I got the Michigan asparagus, onion, and cheddar brat, and Nate got the currywurst. We also got a cup of chili to share. We got a buzzer for our order and then sat down in the heated outdoor space. They have a lot of outdoor seating and some firepits, so I really want to come back in the fall or summer. Our food was done quickly and we had fun picking stuff from the toppings bar. They had chopped onions, jalapenos, banana peppers, sauerkraut etc. and lots of sauces. I LOVED the brat. It was easy to bite and not super snappy which I didn't mind. The bun was perfectly toasted and the flavor combination was delicious. Kind of like a broccoli cheddar vibe. I had some of the currywurst which was also delicious! The chili was packed with brisket and pulled pork, and was really tasty. There is a bar so you can enjoy a beer with your sausage, but we just grabbed some cold drinks from the cooler. They even have ice cream and floats!! There are lots of great items for sale as well, including lots of pickled things, frozen pierogi, meat sticks and jerky, and they even have Trenary Toast (#iykyk). I am already planning my next visit to try more brats and the brisket sandwich. This is such a great concept and I really wish we had a place like this in Grand Rapids.

My favorites are the Reuben, the Georgia Reuben, and Tarb's Tenacious Tenure. The latkes and knishes are also fantastic. There was a period where the bread was so sharp it felt like my mouth was getting cut up every time I ate there, which honestly became part of the experience. But the past few times I've gone, the bread has been perfect. Zingerman's Deli lives up to the hype.

So while it was chaotic and overwhelming, the workers would hand you a menu, explain the purchasing process and even give you requested samples! Due to trying a sample of their pretzel, I ended buying a bag. An $8 bag!!! It was perfectly crunchy and buttery and very good! I don't even like pretzels and these impressed me. Also got a $9 bag of only 5 palmier cookies. They were good but definitely a splurge. BF bought a small bottle of balsamic vinegar for $23, like wut?! I eyed a jar of salsa for $28 and jam for $16 but damn, everything was way above even farmer's market prices. The sandwiches start at $18 for a small and go to $24 for a large. BF and I got the chicken avocado on challah bread and a new crunchy pickle. Zingerman's does a good job with their pickles! Skins were a little too hard but I love that they're not overly pickled and still crunchy and not too much other seasoning. For $21, the sandwich was not very big and they don't include chips or fries. If I lived closer, heck yes I would come here pretty often to try a sample and buy a very expensive baked good. I appreciated the very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was giving Trader Joe's employee energy! Parking was a little tricky but not impossible. We came with locals so they knew what was up.

I experienced all of this in just the first minute or two of entering. And it was packed! I really appreciate the time taken to explain the shop to me and walk me through many of the teas. Although they were busy, I didn't feel rushed (there were 2-3 people working the registers) and it felt very personal chatting.
