It was a gorgeous day so I sat out on the patio. You can walk up to the window bar and place your order if it takes too long for a server to come to your table. I was here around 2-3 pm and the sun was over the building so the patio was nice and shady and not very busy. It's also dog friendly. I had a Kilkenny beer which was creamy and good though it could have been a little colder. The Corned Beef Sandwich was messy but not bad and extremely filling. I ended taking half home. Stopped in for a quick drink and to watch the Tyson vs Jake Paul fiasco. The decor inside was of a traditional Irish tavern. The restaurant portion was closed down when we got there. It was pretty late a little after 10 pm and they close at 11. The kitchen was actually still open and we were able to order some wings and fries. Food was not their strong suit or maybe it was because it was the end of the night. Fried were cold inside and the wings were dry. We really just came for a drink. The bar tender was friendly. We had a few hard ciders at the bar. The closed up at 11 but they didn't rush us out and left the fight on until it was over. read more

Park Lane is a cool English styled tavern offering a mix of American and European fare from burgers and salads to fish and chips, bangers and mash, wiener-schnitzel and pizza. The tavern offers a true European feeling atmosphere with two separate rooms: one more traditional sit down and quieter atmosphere, the other full bar, a mix of high tops and regular tables with TVs for sports fans. Service here has been top notch. Very friendly staff offering a more polished and somewhat formal service experience. From hostess to wait staff I have not ever had a bad service experience at Park Lane. The reason for three stars is the food. It's a bit hit and miss as far as what is good. My wife likes salads and she is 0 for 3 for having a salad without moldy lettuce leaves in it. Appetizers are just okay. However, sandwiches and entrees have been good. Pictures are bangers and mash as well as a Ruben sandwich- would order both again. Full bar and good beer selection. It's a fun place to eat and with the exceptional service, I think worth exploring the menu a bit to find what you like. Look for weekday specials on entrees, repeated weekly. Tip: there is some street parking by the restaurant but very limited. Suggest using a parking a garage east (toward Whole Foods) of the restaurant. Happy eating! read more

Park Lane Tavern is located in the Short Pump Village area. The layout is good, with a mix of booths, bench/chair low tops, high tops, and a bar area. We came here for late Sunday lunch (1 PM) and were seated immediately. The menu looks interesting, with items ranging from salads to burgers to pub grub like shepherd's pie and corned beef. My two dining partners selected this restaurant because they had heard good things about the fish and chips. They both ordered it ("English ale battered and fried to order whole Atlantic Haddock filet on a bed of fresh tavern fries. Served with house-made tartar sauce.") The fish itself was deemed excellent, but the batter was less of a success, being underseasoned, under-crispy/under-fried, and spongy (a sign that the oil was not hot enough, as the fish inside steamed the batter before it could get crisp.) I ordered a steak house salad ("Field greens tossed with bleu cheese crumbles, onions, Roma tomatoes, and Applewood bacon topped with thinly sliced, cooked to order sirloin steak.") This was a bit of a disappointment. While the steak was medium rare as ordered, there was a line of gristle running the length of the meat, which could not have escaped the notice of the kitchen since they slice the steak for service and it clearly could not be easily sliced through (i.e., one long piece of mostly sliced meat.) Cutting it at the table was an issue as well, as the fight to get through the meat sent pieces of the salad flying off the plate and into the floor. Beyond the meat, the salad was fine, although no restaurant should be serving pale tasteless tomatoes in the middle of summer. The dressing (blue cheese) was good. Service was below average to average. We ordered an appetizer for the table of Bavarian pretzels, which arrived with no plates. Drinks went unrefilled for a long time, despite eye contact being made with the server multiple times. I should note that the restaurant was very uncrowded and there were table runners walking around. And when the tea was finally refilled tableside, the server spilled part of the pitcher in my partner's foot. This was remedied by extra napkins but was not addressed with any real regret or concern. So overall impression -- this is another average mall-type midscale restaurant that really didn't impress all that much. A $100 tab for three with no alcohol (incl tip) really should yield an enjoyable experience. While this is a good location and therefore the business will probably do well on bar receipts and food orders from residents who can walk here, with the few missteps on the food we ordered, I am not planning to return for the more "interesting dishes" I mentioned. read more

I stopped in with some friends last night for dinner. It was a cold night and the restaurant was warm and cozy. The three of us started with the pickle fries, which arrived in a cone shaped vessel with a yummy dipping sauce on the side. They were very tasty, but we were all disappointed that the bottom of the cone was filled with crumbled up paper, making for a much smaller amount of food than it appeared. There is a large beer menu, featuring beer from different countries. The waiter brought my friend's drinks first and explained that they had to change the keg for my beer, which eventually arrived lukewarm. My friends had to repeatedly wave down the waiter to ask for more drinks. I opted for their signature fish and chips. The fish was tasty, but the fries, which were served under the fish, were soggy. My friends ordered a vegetarian pizza and a corned beef sandwich and both enjoyed their meals. Overall, it's a decent place to grab some food and drinks. read more

I went on Wednesday and ordered the beef Wellington with a couple whiskey drinks. The Wellington was perfect with a light crispy puff pastry (8.8). The asparagus and mashed potatoes were good (7.3) and the whiskey drinks were refreshing, tasty and well crafted (8.1). Overall an 8.3 experience. It was ridiculously tiny for for an up-charge. The person that bought our food to us, not our waitress had the wrong dressing. It took most of our meal to get out waitress to co.e to our table to get it correct. The waitress we had was nice, but after taking our order had to be fetched via another waitress to correct errors, refill empty water glasses, etc. Apparently, she felt her job was done when we placed our order. My wife and I stopped in for a Sunday dinner. There is street parking and also a parking deck nearby. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It was our first time here and we enjoyed it. They have a wide selection of international beers. I had an Irish red and it was very good. They also have others from local breweries. We had some bavarian pretzels as an appetizer... then we ordered some dinner. I had a smoked bacon gouda burger with fries. It was very good, large and filling! Great casual place for dinner in the same building as the Aloft Hotel. Great selection of bourbon, Scotch, and whiskey, along with local craft beer. I had a caprinha which was a treat as few bars feature it. We both had sandwiches with a side salad ($1 extra) instead of fries. This was no afterthought salad. Nicely arranged with an wonderful orange cranberry vinaigrette. I had their version of a Reuben and Hubby had Monte Cristo Sandwich. Both were excellent. No fat in the corned beef and a side of fruit compote made the Monte Cristo. But the best part of the meal was our server, Christopher. He was extremely attentive and interesting to talk to. I really enjoyed my stop at Park Lane Tavern. The inside was spacious and eclectic, with a funky British vibe. The moral seemed really good too, everyone having a upbeat energy. Our server was great, she seemed like she knew the menu really well and kept all courses well timed apart. I also really liked how other staff members helped out too. The appetiser was okay. We ordered the pretzel sticks with mustard and cheese. The mustard was really unique in flavour, kinda tangy and spicy, I really liked it. The cheese dip kinda disappointed, lacking in flavour and texture. I really enjoyed my main and will definitely return for a second. I ordered the chicken and apple Brie -incredible. The bread was warm and doughy, almost tasting homemade. I liked the sophisticated pairing. I also got to try the fish and chips, while I didn't care for the chips, the fish was Fantastic. I have to give this place a good review! They were able to take a work group of 15 people with reservations the same day. They were clearly not totally staffed for it but they did the best they could. Everyone received their food and drinks and dessert in a timely manner. And their beef Wellington did not disappoint! We enjoyed our lunch at Park Lane! The decor was great and felt like a real pub. The menu looked yummy and my French dip was tasty, the one thing it left to be desired was that the bread was not nice homemade crusty bread. Just a classic, started from frozen, French loaf. Not bad, just not great. My husband enjoyed his haddock sandwich and was pleased they offered some real British ales. Both young boys ate their chicken and chips plus apple sauce right up--nice kids meal and portions! The chips were tasty. Service was fine but not anything to write home about. It was a Saturday and when we arrived at 11:30 it was still pretty slow but people started coming in more quickly after we were seated. Their brunch menu I saw online looks pretty good but I think they maybe only do it Sunday at that location, because they didn't give us that menu on a Saturday. Nonetheless, I bookmarked the venue in my head until the time arose to visit. That time was last night. My mom and I circled around trying to find a parking spot in the built up Short Pump development, eventually opting for the free parking garage that's connected to Aloft behind the restaurant. When we walked in, booming live music was in the room to the right, so we chose to sit in the left dining room, which was fortunately separated from the noise. The ambiance is sophisticated yet casual. It's almost like sitting in a ski lodge, I'd say, with animal heads, cuckoo clocks, and other eclectic decor. The booths come equipped with two pillows on each side as well. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip to start. The dip was nicely cheesy and all around tasty. We cleared the dish (and by "we," I mean mostly me). I also had a local berliner weisse from Charles City. It came in an etched glass. They have a host of foreign beers as well on draft, all of which apparently come in glasses to match. Nice touch but they should add the size on the drink menu. For my main course, I selected the cobb salad with crispy chicken, no tomatoes, and added sides of ceasar and honey mustard dressing. The dish arrived all separated, with huge plops of cheddar and mozzarella shredded cheese on each side of the dish, plus bacon, a hard boiled egg, and leafy greens. It was delicious, and huge for a salad. I took half of it home. My mom had the pork schnitzel, and she raved about it also. I tried a piece of her mashed potatoes, which were also quite good. All in all, Park Lane served a good meal, and I'd certainly consider a return if I'm in Short Pump. read more
