You know what? I am glad this site exists, because I have wanted to say this about these half assed jack-a-dandys for a while. This is the worst ross store in washington, it's dirty, the men's section is a complete clusterfuck. I've also observed that they have had the same jeans since 2002. BTW Don't bother asking for help, most of the clowns working in the mens department are incredulous mohamedans who clearly don't want to be there and have no clue what you are saying. If you're on a schedule don't go in here, it won't be quick. This has to be the worst Ross I've ever been too, and not by the stores/employee's fault. I really feel bad for the employee's because people just don't seem to care. I watched several women pick up shoes to look at them, and either drop them on the floor and leave them there, or knock another shoe off the shelf by accident and just leave it on the floor. Are you serious? Have you always been such a pig? The fitting room was an interesting experience, I couldn't seem to find a door that actually closed with a hatch, so being the paranoid person I am, I stood with my back to the door. Meh... The layout is a bit confusing if not suffocating. Women's clothing seems to be strewn about, a small selection of jeans size 3 and under. The jackets were mixed into the maternity section, so I just stayed away from those. Some of the shirts were cute but I think Ross has lost it's touch when it comes to picking out stylish clothes. All-in-all, I probably won't be back. The Northgate Ross is just a bus trip away and it's probably a ton cleaner. read more

I'm torn. On the one hand, I've found things I've wanted at cheap prices. In fact, I bought a lot of my kitchen stuff here. My lovely selection of porcelain bowls and plates? Ross, baby! I even found a nifty bright blue plaid shirt that says "Ocean Beach" on it. Looking good, staying trendy, AND giving a shoutout to my San Diego roots, and FOR LESS! But like Rebecca said, there is always a huge line at any time. To add to that, they have some cashiers that are terrible at their job and look like they hate being there. Then again, if I worked there, I'd hate being there as well. But I can't deny that my kitchen is all the better for it. I'd love to say I'd never come back, but that'd be a lie. You know I usually have no problem shopping at Ross. Sure the place can be messy, but like most people. if you have the patience. You can find some great stuff for really low prices. However, this Ross is just gross. The outside looks dirty and terrible, and sadly the inside is not much better. People working inside were all really angry and short tempered. The shelves very dusty and littered, nothing really in any type of order (again I'm making my comparison to other Ross locations I've been to). Ran in here to pick up towels and other bathroom crap that had BBB but was overpriced (Bed Bath Beyond). My pops is considered a "senior" so he got his Senior Tuesday 10% discount on a full set of Ralph Lauren towels. The checkout line. I wanted to shoot myself. With an numbered electronic system, like Nordstrom Rack and the DMV, you'd think the process was quick and efficient. Was in that line for 10 minutes! That is like eternity when you're standing, 23 people deep. Normally, my snotty ass will say, screw it, I'd rather pay more - but my dad was cool w/waiting.... 3 different moms, 3 different sets of kids. Screaming. At the top of their lungs. Running. Omg. If I behaved like that at 5 years old, I don't think i'd be able to sit for a week. I give this place 3 stars b/c they're cleaner then Tukwilla, but their selection sucks. read more

I live down in Auburn and I frequently ride my bicycle up to Seattle to meet my wife for dinner. Many times, I am not quite in a presentable condition for a restaurant so I have made it a habit of just buying a new outfit at Ross when I get into town. I don't like shopping and my wardrobe is considerably outdated and getting shabby so this basically forces me to get new clothes. I always seem to find something here that fits, looks good and it way cheaper than it should be. But, this place can be just crazy. There is always security guards but it just feels like a scary place to be. They must have terrible shoplifting issues here because I always fell like I am being watched. The downstairs is usually a mess. Things are on the wrong racks and it is difficult to find the right size. The checkout lines are usually long and the clerks are not real friendly. So, not the most pleasant store, but I can ignore that and will keep coming back for good cheap clothes. read more

This ross is so sad compared to all the others. They are lacking in selection. When I first walked in was super surprised at how empty it was. They had a good amount of shoes but everything else was blah. Usually at other Rosses I find multiple things I need to have and usually the prices help me be able to afford them all. My mom and I went to this Ross while we were visiting Seattle. We actually ended up going there three times, and each visit got worse. Trip #1 was actually pretty good, it was early in the morning, and not that busy. Trip #2 was later that night. I had never heard of a Ross closing their fitting rooms early, and I've worked at a Ross that was FIVE times the size of this one, and we never shut our fitting rooms early. When I asked why they close the fitting rooms early, they claimed it was so they could get their clothes out on the floor and go home. That's why you schedule people half an hour or an hour after closing, duh. We got to the fitting rooms just before they were closing, and when they did close the fitting room attendant very rudely came in every two minute telling us we were closed. I also overheard her saying that I was rude when asking why the fitting rooms shut down early. Trip #3 was the next day, because I saw cute clothes and wanted to go back. Biiig mistake. The store was busy, they had two fitting room attendants (which is not needed, the fitting room doesn't need two people, I've worked at a Ross where the store was about the same size as the upstairs) who didn't say a word, nor were they helpful at all. I asked where the restroom was, and very rudely was told there are no public restrooms. I then went to the line, and it was so long, I couldn't believe it. They had 8 cash registers, and no more than three people at the register. Hell, you could take one of the fitting room attendants and put them on the register, waiting 30 minutes in line is ridiculous. I even e-mailed the company telling them about the horrible experience I had at that Ross, and never got a reply back. I will NEVER shop at this Ross again, and tell anybody that is going to Seattle to avoid it like the plague. The inexpensive clothes are not worth it, and there's so many other places to shop in Seattle. read more

You pay for what you get. What this store lacks in customer service skills it makes up for in deals. Where else can you possibly get a Michael Kors 500$ purse for under 200$? You can count on a designer to make well contructed garments and Ross is one of the few places to get quality for less. Just don't expect to be waited on. read more

The Pros: 1) Location, location, location. (I think we really need more not foo-foo stores downtown.) 2) Not foo-foo. 3) Housewares! You can get awesome mugs, and serving plates, and giant spoons and whathaveyou at ridiculously low prices. The Cons: 1) The clothes. Sure, they are cheap, but they are, well, cheap. I like getting a good deal on clothes, and there are probably a few here if you care to look hard enough, but most of their stuff is just below a quality I care to wear. (And I am hardly particularly particular.) 2) The lines! It does not matter what time of day, what day of the week, what time of year, Ross is going to have a dauntingly long line at the cashiers. More than once, I have foregone some lovely little not foo-foo housewares item because a) it was not worth spending 20 minutes in line to buy the $2 spoon rest shaped like a wine bottle, b) doing so would have made me miss my bus, c) doing so would have made me miss my sanity, d) all of the above. read more

Ross, I don't care if it is uncool to shop your racks. The deals are so good, and you get new stuff so often, I can always find something. Yes, it is filthy and disorganized and the wait in line takes 10 years, but jeans for $7! London Fog raincoat for $30! Bras for $3.99! I am cheap, and Ross understands. read more

Let me start off by saying that I love Ross stores. Ross has inexpensive clothing, in tons of different styles. Their selection is usually pretty extensive and I love their housewares and miscellaneous sections (dog toys for $3.99??? How awesome)! However, this Ross store happens to sit on the corner of 3rd and Pike, right along the bus lines. While this normally wouldn't be a problem, that tiny section of town running about 2 blocks along 3rd Ave has some serious problems. There are tons of drug users/sellers, prostitutes, pimps, crazy people, and gang members around the area. Due to the unfortunate location, instead of security guards or "theft protection" employees, they have actual police inside the store (usually two to three at any given time). A lot of times you'll encounter customers who are somewhat hostile or rude, and you just have to learn to ignore them. The store would boast a pretty good selection if it wasn't laying on the floor half of the time. Many of the customers will let garments fall off the hangers and then leave them on the floor for someone else to deal with. The same is with the shoe section, only worse. The fitting room stalls are tiny as well, and it usually smells horrible. Most of the staff on the floor is pretty friendly, and that goes for some of the employees who have been there longer. However! I have had the displeasure of having incredibly rude staff at the register the majority of the time. The line is usually VERY long, and while I realize that it might be frustrating to deal with some of the unruly customers that frequent the store, some of the cashiers are despicable in their behavior towards customers. Do not be surprised if you leave feeling a little "pissed-off" at some of the employees. It's a good location if you want to shop during lunch while at work, and it's great price-wise and selection-wise, but I'd really recommend going somewhere else if you have the option. read more

I normally go to the Ross in Lynnwood, so I haven't been to the downtown Ross too often. The store seemed clean, and it wasn't too crowded. We were a bit disappointed in the lack of apparel at the time we visited. There were some wonderful deals on sweater dresses, but there really weren't a lot of blouses, etc. I was especially disappointed in the hand bag selection. I know shopping at Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshalls can be a crap shoot, but I was very disappointed. So, we went Safari Bargain Hunting and bagged nothing. Maybe next time we'll have more luck - but it sure made me miss Woolworths (which used to be in that space years ago!) read more

Of all the Ross joints I've shopped over the years, this is truly the worst one of all. Yes, you can find some really terrific bargains...I've bought countless great shoes, shirts and skirts here...but it is such an awful, awful store physically. Don't go at lunch hour, because it will be packed with office workers trying to get their bargain shopping on! Go earlier or go later. Between noon and 1PM, the check out line is a zoo. There always seems to be a horrible stench, sorry homeless folks who come in from the cold...but I think it's you guys. I once made the mistake of thinking I'd go try something on...but that dressing room is the most filthy, stinky place. I'll take my chances and would rather return something than ever go back to the dressing rooms again! I give them an extra star for saving the old Woolworth's building and keeping it open and useful. read more

Oh Ross, sometimes you are wonderful, other times you really are overwhelming, lol. There are some good finds for low prices which I really like, however, if you come on the weekends, be prepared to wait in a loooong line to get rung up. The location is great, right downtown, they have two floors of racks for you to dig through, and sometimes you can score some good stuff. It can get quite crowded so if you REALLY want to go and spend some quality time looking through the racks and try things on, go during the week days otherwise, long lines await you my friend. read more

Generally, this Ross isn't any better than most, and in fact, may be a little worse. Long lines, less than trendy clothes, etc etc... It's only redeeming feature is that is has a large and usually well stocked kitchen and home goods section of the store, and I've scored 3" thick solid wood end grain cutting boards for as little as $20 (they retail for $130 on Amazon). They also have a larger selection of dresses than most Ross's, and a larger selection of adult "work clothes" than most other Ross's, which tend to be the cheaper/younger of the three big stores of its kind (Ross, Marshalls, TJ Maxx). Overall, it's worth a trip, but if you don't find what you're looking for in 15 minutes, it's not worth browsing any of the other parts of the store - too much to look at, and the good stuff is too few and far between to make it a pleasurable shopping experience. read more

Of course this Ross is a sore thumb amidst the pristine yuppiness that is downtown Seattle. But I like it. It probably won't be around for much longer. First of all, and I don't know why, they always have incredible music playing in this store. Like obscure '80s R&B that is so danceable I once noticed a woman near me getting her groove on. I had no choice but to ask at checkout if it was a CD or a commercial radio station. The cashier told me "some guy" makes CDs for them. Personalized R&B mixes? Now that is pure homegrown, downtown thrift store. Once the purse section in front had couture leather bags. They were all beautiful and I should have bought one before they were gone. I did buy a very bold $12 graphic print blouse that, when worn out on the town, someone mistook for Missoni. I kid you not. I've also purchased some random DVDs from that inexplicable collection up front. I've never had a run-in with any belligerent homeless people nor snaking lines, but that's probably because I go in the evening right before I catch the bus. read more

Ross many just have what you're looking for. For shoes, clothing, kitchenware, bedding, purses and yoga mats, Ross offers great deals. You just have to have the patience to go through everything. I'm not much of a shopper. I mean I generally know what I want, go to a place that has it, and buy it. Recently, though, I realized that I had a severe shortage of good 'gigging' clothes. Yeah, stuff to wear for performing with the band that doesn't look like I'm a confused patron who accidentally stumbled on stage and picked up an instrument. Something shiny. Something that stands out. Also something that photographs well. Anyway, I was downtown. I figured maybe I'd give Ross a shot, as Macy's, etc., are really too expensive for clothes that I generally would only wear once in a while. The downtown Ross kind of reminds me of Walmart. It stinks. There are ultra low-class people screaming obscenities at each other (or at nothing, as there were plenty of semi-homeless people muttering to themselves while browsing the jackets). There's crap lying around on the floors and everywhere. It's like a thrift store without the charm, you really gotta search for what you're looking for, and hold your nose while passing some of the pee-smelling, bad B.O. patrons who are busy pulling of their clothes and trying stuff on. So... note to self: don't try anything on there. However, you may just score some really great stuff if you can stand being there long enough. I found a couple really cool shirts that I really dig, and they were super cheap. I also found a couple belts that were totally unlike anything I'd find at a bigger store, and also super cheap. All told, I probably spent less than $50, whereas the same style/type stuff at a bigger store would have run me around $100. So as stanky as it is, there is hidden gold. You just require nose plug and thick skin to find it. read more

I don't even know why I bother to come here in the first place. However, they do have a nice selection of dresses, I can't find that many in size 1 though. Better luck at another location. Not to mention, why are there 8 cash registers with only 3 people working as cashiers, and there are about 30 people in line? Do you honestly think that people have all the time in the world? I was raised on Ross. My wardrobe is split in two categories: Old Navy and Ross. There are days when I can honestly say, "Every single thing I am wearing right now (minus the undies) is from Ross." But this Ross SUCKS! Crowded, dirty, disorganized, scary. I grew up on the Totem Lake Ross and the Ross in Eugene, OR. When I moved to Seattle I was ELATED that there was a Ross within walking distance from both my apartment and my place of work. Until I actually stepped in the place. Later that night, I cried myself to sleep. The dressing room, oh MY god, smells like my nose is stuffed in the chest of a homeless person who hasn't showered in 44 days. And the lines? You have to plan your next week around them. However. As nasty as this particular Ross can be, and is, really, I still have a strong allegiance to other Rosses and still go here from time to time to pick up the occasion item. I went just today to pick up some work out shorts. Couldn't find the "fitness wear" section, but was so adverse to talking to anyone, I didn't ask. I walked out with some cute white bermuda-looking shorts that probably make my ass look huge, but, it IS huge. Anyway. I have said my peace. read more

In a pinch and on a tight budget grab some cheap shoes that won't last your entire life or even a year, but will probably get you through a quarter in undetectable department store style. Sometimes they have really long lines at checkout and the store isn't the prettiest thing to look at, but it'll get the job done. read more

I love Ross. I however do not love the Downtown Ross one bit. I went in today, against my better judgement, to look for some dresses. The selection as always is hit and miss in my size, but I'm ok with that. I was not ok with the messy appearance of the store. The rude woman in the fitting room who demanded I hand my items up to be counted then talked with a friend for several minutes while I waited or the massive line. The line was crazy long and they only had 2 checkers. I've worked retail and a line that long would have had every employee called to registers to check out. This was not the case. I had to put off buying cat food to make it to the rest of my errands before I had to go to work because I was in line for nearly 20minutes to buy a pair of shoes! I seriously considered putting them back and leaving, but I knew my boyfriend would love the,. Which he did. Truly unimpressed as usual. If the other Ross stores where not so difficult to get to where I live downtown I would never venture in here. read more

Let's face it: Ross is always good for a deal and exactly what you're looking for. I get what has happened to THIS Ross, in particular. About 10 years ago it was crammed wall-to-wall with whatever you needed. It screamed: "STEAL ME!" I was there last night looking for a neck pillow and they've definitely changed their game. People must have been robbing the place daily because NOW things are definitely different. This Ross no longer has all of the home department items of a regular Ross store. You know...the picture frames, kitchen stuff, candles, book department, etc. Bummer. So when I got to the neck pillows there were three lousy ones available. I wouldn't not go to this Ross in the future based on this lack of items. I just know in the future what to expect. Clearly, they've focused on the items that are less apt to be stuffed in your pocket/purse/bag/whatever. They've got the Seattle Police Department standing by and tons of cameras now, too. It's a lot cleaner here now, too. So when I also tried on some jeans, the racks were much easier to get through then previously. Know what you're in for...not the usual stuff at a usual Ross. But, if you live in Seattle and this works for you, you're set! read more

Enh - it's not bad but not good. When you find a good deal it's pretty nice but those are really few and far in between. On the plus side, don't be fooled by the dirty entrance-- staff is nice and the interior is fairly clean. I've seen worse, but if there's anywhere else you can go, start there first. read more

I got harassed here for asking for earrings. Yep, I got abused, discriminated against and harassed all in one. I walked in and knew the earrings I wanted b/c I had come in before. The security guard, who did not have a name tag on through this entire incident, looked at me and rolled her eyes and then looked away. I asked if someone could come up to the jewelry counter to unlock it for the earrings. They were only 12.00 but I really wanted them. She said, "I will get someone." She did not. Nobody showed for many minutes. Finally, I asked a woman behind the counter to help me. She said, "Well, it depends on how I feel. I am busy right now." I said, "What?!!" with exasperation and I was in shock. She said she could not find the key after I asked her why she just said that, as a way to totally dismiss what I just said. She then just said, "Oh well, I can't unlock it, I guess you are out of luck", while everyone around her was just laughing at me...the tall security guard with long brown hair, her male crony who was right beside her and other Ross employees. Since they were all young, I thought perhaps they do not like middle aged women. I am also visibly Native American and wear my turquoise rings proudly. I said, "Why am I being treated this way?" and they all just laughed. I asked for a Manager ten times. I got "Francis" who is a relatively short guy with reddish blonde hair and a mustache. He came up and asked me to leave without ever hearing my side of this whole abusive incident. Yep, that is right. He came up and I thought he was going to hear my side, but instead, he just asked me to leave. It was pretty horrific. So I told them to "f off" on the way out proudly ONLY AFTER I was horrifically abused there. Terrible place. Horrific. Never again. read more

Cool spot downtown. It's actually a really great use of the space. It's packed in but maneuverable. The downstairs is a little difficult to find. It's not obvious, and the elevator isn't as accessible as one would think. That said, staff are pretty downtown. Nice enough but rushed. The selection was excellent in all of the departments. I needed some phone accessories. I found what I needed quickly (right in the front of the store), browsed around, and bounced out. Not bad. I'd shop here again. read more

I've only been to this store one time, and that was enough of a learning experience for me. I was completely unimpressed. I'm used to Ross' usual lack of organization, and some clutter is fine, but for a space that takes up two floors, call me silly but I expected a bigger selection. I didn't look through the clothing here, but the bottom floor's house/bath selection was miserable compared to other Ross's I've been to. Very hit and miss, with certain staple items altogether nearly missing from the lineup. It's like whoever ordered from the vendor catalogs skipped a few categories. Unlike some other Ross locations, where you can find a nice variety of unique, affordable knick-knacks for your house, don't even bother trying at this one. I'd have more luck at almost any store in downtown. I see no reason to go back, unless I was desperate for a good bargain. But for the lacking selection (and not to mention the layout, which makes you walk down a long, tedious flight of stairs to get to the next floor), I'd rather go elsewhere, pay a few more dollars and find a lot more to choose from. edit: As a small update, I did discover that you'll find some great details on some of the clothing accessories. Great prices on handbags. ..That's about all I'd go back for, though. Lines at the cash register are almost unbearably long on some days, which makes you have to stop and consider how badly you want that item you're buying. read more

Their concern for their customers' time is lacking.
