With all the closures in the loop after Covid, I'm glad Roti still stands!! There's a lot of Greek/Mediterranean options, but Roti is always consistently good. So many flavor profiles, and it's a chipotle-like set-up where you can choose your ingredients while you walk down the line. I always get a salad bowl with chicken roti with carrots, cucumbers, chickpeas, brussels, pickles and feta with hummus and roasted red pepper sauce. The bowl is super filling for lunch, and quick and easy to grab. Definitely stop in! read more

Sorry Roti, I love your food and my Pita was great, but my experience this time gives this location 1 star. I ordered a pita sandwich in the app, and made the order for 11:15 AM pickup - I am on a time constraint, as I work in an office downtown so I expected my order to be ready on time at 11:15 AM. I walk in and expect my order to be on the mobile pickup order counter, but it's not. I walk up to the counter and ask if they have my order and they send me to another line by the registers full of people waiting for their mobile orders as well. What's the point of a mobile pickup order station if it's not being utilized? But the most annoying part is I didn't even get my order until 11:30 AM. This is a quick service, fast food restaurant not a sit down so when I order for a specific time I expected it then, I wasted almost my entire lunch break waiting for the late order, probably the others in the line were experiencing the same as mine wasn't the only late one. Disappointing experience I probably won't order from this location again, go to Naf Naf on Jackson if you want similar food and on time mobile orders every time. read more

I was at an event today where they had food from Roti. It was my first time trying it, and I have to say, it was delicious. We had an assortment of falafel, steak, salad, rice, carrot salad, and sauces. The falafel was the best I've ever had. They were well cooked without being dry. The rice was incredibly flavorful without overwhelming the falafel or steak. I really enjoyed their red pepper sauce, which had a beautiful texture and just a hint of heat. It's sad to say Roti has gone way downhill in the past two years. I used to eat here upwards of once a week but COVID forced me from being a downtown regular diner. I came back here for the first time in a while and the experience has changed dramatically. The chicken roti was burned a bit and overcooked/charred with burnt/bitter edges. The amazing purple pickled cabbage has been replaced with what might as well be a bag of cabbage from the grocery store. The seasoned cucumber/tomato salad garnish is gone. The hummus isn't the same. The employees are flat of affect and clearly don't want to be there. It's so sad to see one of my longtime favorites mail it in. Food's still good. Menu's a bit more standardized. The new bowl combinations are good, and have a little flexibility. After several visits, the music is still way too loud. I really want to start visiting the Roti in Hyde Park more. I haven't been for lunch in a long time. Now that it's warmer out, I'm willing to walk the block or so when at work downtown. Back when I worked over by the Monroe and river location, I used to frequent Roti a lot and had fond memories. My visit today confirmed one, maybe two things: (1) I've become a falafel snob and/or (2) they're at best mediocre. Let's break it down: * Bread - they changed their flatbread somewhere between mt last visit and now; I like the old bread better. * Falafel - damn those balls are scrawny! They also didn't seem to have the same consistency/texture you find at the more authentic Mediterranean establishments. * Toppings - this is one area that has stayed great. Lots of sauce and topping choices for your falafel. * Wrapper - they converted from the easy to tear foil paper to wax paper, grrr. The new wrapper blows, it's awkward to tear since you have to leave it on to hold your sammie together. Multiple times I ended up with a mouthful of wax paper, phooey! * Extras - what happened to the free side of cous cous? * Price - for $6.50 ($7.23 with tax) I expect better quality falafel and something more filling! The prices of some items rival sit down places with table service; $8.50 for a single salmon kebab? Um, wtf?! The new space is nice, better laid out to handle lines unlike the one on Monroe and Canal and service was friendly. To recap: Small balls + overpriced + bites of wax paper = Mary spending her falafel dollars elsewhere. 3.5 stars! Roti is kind of the Qdoba of Mediterranean "fast food". Both provide quality, tasty and quick meals at an affordable price. Met half of the Ginger Twins, Melanie S. for a nice quick lunch outing. There was a line almost out the door, but it moves quickly, and allows for you to peruse the ordering process which is: Pick your Base (sandwich, salad, Mediterranean Plate), Pick your Meat (or Falafel or Vegetables), and Pick your Vegetables (including sauces and couscous). Or choose one of their Favorites! Which I gladly did. Sultan Sandwich- grilled seasoned chicken, sometimes succulent, sometimes crispy, with hummus, red cabbage, cucumber salad, and big pearls of couscous. It was complex and good. I got an extra cup of the hot hot sauce, which would go well on a falafel sandwich, which I'm already planning for my next visit. Its a greasy lump of something unidentifiable, that doesn't resemble a falafel you will have anywhere in the middle east. It doesn't taste that bad, but calling it falafel makes Jews an Muslims roll over in their graves. I'm not even sure there is any chickpea in the falafel. I've been to other Roti restaurants before and this one doesnt cut it. I ordered rice with roti chicken. The rice was dry and so was the chicken. When I asked for sauce, the server put the sauce on the side, instead of on the chicken, which is what other Roti restaurants do. The portion size was also smaller here compared to other Roti's. I dont know what they were saving all that food for since it was around dinner time and it was not busy at all. Mediterranean chipotle style, I like it! I enjoy joints that allows you to create your food the way you want it. Not every person likes their salad, wrap or rice bowl the same so why not allow consumers the option to create what they want. Roti is a spinoff of Chipotle where you can pick your meats, rice/salad/wrap, and toppings galore. I have been aiming for the healthier side so my go to is chicken kabob salad with dill sauce, tomato/cucumbers and veggies (+extra scoop), get it mixed and I'm read to dive it. They also give you a side of pita which comes warm and toasty. The chicken is seasoned well and never over cooked. I enjoy the flavor of the dill sauce, bold but not extreme. A filling meal especially with pita. Service has been nice and quick. I usually come during busy lunch time, but I'm out within 10 minutes. The employees aren't always the friendliest that can improve. Overall, a delicious joint with a lot of options. read more

Its very clean nice place, very open, many seating, helpful staff, welcoming, a variety of food, too many options, cost-effective. I joined one of my favorite Yelper musicians (Nachos), for an impromptu lunch at Roti (his pick). It's another Chipotle-style setup - you start with either a sandwich, salad, or a plate, and you can customize it from there with your choice of meat or vegetables, and then add other accompaniments and sauces. I love Mediterranean food and this is good for a quick, if non-authentic, fix. The line moves quickly and there is ample seating. Prices are comparable to every other eatery of this type in the downtown, worker-bee area; that is, expect to pay +/- $9. I liked my salad, which I got with a chicken kabob, and added a ton of stuff. In hindsight, I probably went a little overboard and added too many things, so the chicken kind of got lost in the mix. Still, it was a good, fresh salad, and I didn't feel like a glutton eating it. I was fortunate enough to get the sampling menu from their catering Sales Manager who is great to work with. She brought it the Roti Chicken and beef, and the kebobs. YUM! Along with the half white/half wheat pita, hummus, baba ganoush, veggies, couscous and 4 sauces...I was quite content! The meat is prepared fresh and it's oober delish. The hummus is some of the best fresh hummus I've tasted in awhile and wasn't oily at all. They also have a spicy feta hummus which I'm dying to try! The couscous was very flavorful and the sauces are unique. I tried to red peper aioli, fresh tahini and cucumber dill and a spicy red sauce. All tasted great on everything! I heard that the downtown locations are only open til 3pm for fresh service but they will cater for dinner. They ALSO have half priced items every day starting at 2:30--how yum is that?! I wish I lived closer to the Metra so I would have a reason to stop by here late afternoon. read more

My whole experience started off extremely frustrating in this place. Everytime I ordered, or said anything, it seemed like the people behind the counter either didn't understand me or were flat out not listening at all. "Chicken kebab." "Pita or Wrap?" "Pita." "Here or to-go?" "Here." Waiter pulls out a plate and places rice on it, and chicken kebab on top of said rice and starts to pile up the plate. "No! Sandwich, not plate." "Oh, to go, right?" "No, here!" Server pulls out hot wrap from grill. "No! Pita, not wrap." Further down the line... "Can I get a side of cous cous?" Server proceeds to pile cous cous into my sandwich. "No! A SIDE OF COUS COUS, not IN the sandwich!" Server proceeds to put two tiny spoonfuls of cous cous in this tiny dressing container. "NO, A FULL SIDE OF COUS COUS." Server looks at me blankly *cue cartoon blinking eyes* while her colleague stands there and stares watching the whole thing, and not saying a word to the obvious language barrier going on. Finally, they get a normal sized side and fill up a side of cous cous. Total bill: $11.00 Total frustration: Endless Look, I know it's not a four start restaurant, but if you're going to be dealing with a lunch rush, learn to LISTEN. Know the difference between pita vs. plate, to-go vs. here, side vs. in. All that being said, it WAS a good lunch there and I could see myself going back again, the chicken was quite good and I was very impressed with the cous cous (even after all that trouble). I hate to use the word "underwhelmed" in two consecutive reviews, but if the word fits...wear it! Or something like that. Arriving a bit before 12, we were greeted with a long line already. In fact, the entire time I was there the line was long. Fortunately the line moved pretty fast. There is a lot of seating but it was nearly full when arrived. Our party split up and half of us pounced on a table and held it while the other half waited in line. The place is set up to accommodate a line without disrupting diners, but the line must have been longer than they expected since it spilled out of the holding area into the dining area at times, making navigating the front of the restaurant difficult. They were giving out samples of hummus and falafel to people waiting in line. It is VERY LOUD IN THERE. I typed that in all caps to replicate the yelling you will need to do to be understood in Roti. The place could use some sound-dampening materials on the walls, since everything echoes. You'll need to shout your order, possibly multiple times. One of our orders ended up being wrong, probably because of the noise. As for the food, the hummus and baba ganoush were very good. The chicken kebab plate was less exciting. The kebab was on the small side for the price, and was OK but not particularly tasty, nor was the Roti rice or salad that it came with. Fish ain't my thang, but it sounds like the salmon kebabs were better. The "slightly spicy" Roti sauce really wasn't spicy at all but it had a nice flavor. There are a pretty good selection of sauces so something ought to tickle your fancy. All in all I'd say this place is over-hyped. I work all the way on the far side of the Loop from here so I doubt I'll go back. However, if they were to open a location near my office I'd probably give them another shot. read more

There are literally dozens of Mediterranean options in the loop, Roti is the best I've found. Huge portions and great options. When I have a craving for Mediterranean, there's really no other option for me (even if I have to trek 5 blocks in the dead of winter). The salads are basically a tasting menu of everything they have to offer, hummus, baba ganoush, an array of grilled veggies, a choice of 4-5 different sauces, along with your chicken, steak or salmon. Prices are a little on the higher side of things (usually walk out paying $9-13 for lunch), but the freshness and portion sizes make it worth it. The line is always immense, but I've never had to wait longer than 5-7 minutes to place my order. They are very efficient on the line and its nice that you can see them prepare your sandwich for you as you walk down the line and add what you want. Note: The fallafel here are a little different, small than usual and are rolled with whole chickpeas mixed in. Not bad, but not your usual fare....just a heads up. read more

Today I was lured to Roti by their free lunch between 12 - 1:30 pm in celebration of their first anniversary, even though I packed my own lunch today. I usually don't go for food that I can make myself, and Roti delivered. We only waited in line for about twenty minutes, even though the line was wrapping around the office building. I don't know what the wait is during the normal, non-free lunchtime routine. Since we had plenty of time to analyze the menu, I weighed my options between a sandwich, salad, or plate but knew that I wanted falafel instead of the veggies, chicken, steak, or salmon that you can opt for (but all smelled very good). I usually stress out when I have to decide quickly what I want to eat, but we were able to observe what everyone else was eating, and they had falafel tasting while waiting in line! I ended up with the falafel sandwich on the laffa bread with most of the toppings available because I love to try everything. I'm also always a sucker for a dill and yogurt sauce- I can see that becoming an addiction. This is so close to my office that I'll even be tempted to come here in the cold weather and when I'm too lazy to make and bring in my lunch. As I was leaving, I noticed a sign saying that orders are half price after 3:30 pm...really late lunch/early dinner? Combine a place to visit that's been on my radar for a long time and the close proximity to a nearby hotel where a friend was staying, and I've got friends thanking me for the recommendations and now they all think I know all the cool places to eat. I selected the Chicken Roti Mediterranean plate, which were thin grilled strips of chicken, marinated and seasoned well, and it came with lemon-rice and three sides. They ended up being couscous (cooked perfectly), hummus- a bit creamier in consistency than I expected, but delicious anyway- and a little serving of feta cheese crumbles.
