Chicken bowl
Ed D.

Good Mediterranean food. I got the chicken bowl with almost all the ingredients. It was packed and I was full. Ingredients tasted fresh and the taste was good. Price was good. Not much more to say

I really want to start visiting the Roti in Hyde Park more. I haven't been for lunch in a long time. Now that it's warmer out, I'm willing to walk the block or so when at work downtown. I splurged (won a bet for St. Louis) and got the Lamb meatball rice plate. It was a good portion, I had to take some home. The assembly line is such a good idea, since there are so many ingredients to choose from, you need 3 or 4 people to assemble the entree. I wonder if you can order online in advance. That would be a good way to avoid all the noisiness.

I love roti. Come here all the time for lunch break and it's a long line but it moves so fast. You have to know what you want tho because you will feel the pressure from how fast the line is moving. Delicious food and super filling.

I like big balls and I can not lie You other brothers can't deny That when a falafel walks in with an itty bitty ... Ok, I don't know where I was going with that, but my point is I like big balls, falafel balls that is, and this place doesn't have them. Back when I worked over by the Monroe and river location, I used to frequent Roti a lot and had fond memories. My visit today confirmed one, maybe two things: (1) I've become a falafel snob and/or (2) they're at best mediocre. Let's break it down: * Bread - they changed their flatbread somewhere between mt last visit and now; I like the old bread better. * Falafel - damn those balls are scrawny! They also didn't seem to have the same consistency/texture you find at the more authentic Mediterranean establishments. * Toppings - this is one area that has stayed great. Lots of sauce and topping choices for your falafel. * Wrapper - they converted from the easy to tear foil paper to wax paper, grrr. The new wrapper blows, it's awkward to tear since you have to leave it on to hold your sammie together. Multiple times I ended up with a mouthful of wax paper, phooey! * Extras - what happened to the free side of cous cous? * Price - for $6.50 ($7.23 with tax) I expect better quality falafel and something more filling! The prices of some items rival sit down places with table service; $8.50 for a single salmon kebab? Um, wtf?! The new space is nice, better laid out to handle lines unlike the one on Monroe and Canal and service was friendly. To recap: Small balls + overpriced + bites of wax paper = Mary spending her falafel dollars elsewhere. TIP: The flatbread is way better than the pita unless you like wearing your lunch TIP: They have a gluten free menu online and can substitute gluten-free pita for $2 extra.

Roti is my favorite lunch spot in the loop. I go back and forth between the chicken roti rice plate and the mixed green chicken roti - I get all the fixins! Their falafels are good af too.

My build-your-own steak bowl and it was quite fresh, delish, and plentiful! I love the unlimited types of veggie toppings you can add on and omit the unnecessary sauces that can add on calories. I inhaled the whole thing for lunch around 11:30am and I ended up skipping dinner because I was so full. Next time I will only eat half and save it for another meal. My only complaint is that the food is a little on the salty side. I had to drink water every hour to quench my thirst. The reason I don't go to Roti often is because of the price. I spent almost $11 on just lunch and no beverage -- I can get away with spending less than $8 at most build-your-own bowl places or other lunch options in the Loop.

Aba Restaurant review -- Fulton Market, Chicago…read more This was my husband and I first time visiting Aba Restaurant, and we left impressed on every count. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. We had an 8 PM reservation, but since we were in the area early, Chris B. kindly accommodated us for an earlier seating. We settled on the rooftop deck, which set the mood with a vibrant, buzzy vibe. The service was outstanding throughout. Our waiter greeted us promptly, with a trainee at the table. (My apologies for forgetting their names). Both were exceptionally pleasant. The trainee did a superb job walking us through the menu, explaining the concept of ordering. We decided on a variety of dishes, and Aba delivered: - Wild Mushroom Hummus: A smooth earthy dish with roasted mushrooms folded into a creamy hummus, finished with truffle oil and herbs. Yummy! - Tuna & Watermelon: A refreshing pairing of tender tuna balanced with juicy watermelon, cucumber, pomergrant seeds and mint. Loved it! - Green Chili Shrimp: Served in a metal dish used for escargo. The shrimp were covered by breadcrumbs and lots of butter with a slight kick to it. Great for dipping your bread in. It did not disappoint! - Pan Seared Halibut: A perfectly seared, delicate fillet, moist and flaky that highlighted the fish's clean, buttery profile. And from the cocktail menu, the Aloe? It's Me. It has a kick to it. Loved it too. Everything was excellent--the food was inventive and delicious, the service was great and the rooftop ambiance added a memorable layer to the evening. Highly recommended for a refined yet relaxed Chicago dining experience.

No dish was too heavy with oils or grease or fats which left us feeling full and satisfied without the groggy food coma. Flavors sing Mediterranean, and truly can't pick a wrong item. If I had to make a recommendation, the mushroom hummus for vegetarians is devine!! For the beef lovers out there, I've been recommended the short rib hummus countless times and I'm certain it would hit the spot. Unfortunately not the best Mediterranean food I've had in town, but definitely a can't miss place when making your restaurant hit list. The ambiance is also elegant and fit for an upscale Mediterranean meal. The indoor section is beautiful but I hear outdoor section is just as great of an experience. Again, can't go wrong on where you choose to make your reservation. The service is where the restaurant falls a bit short. They get incredibly busy and as a result it took over an hour to receive our meal. Was it worth the wait? Definitely, but wish the service could have been a bit more attentive also. Rating: 4/5

Our server was kind and great at showing recommendations. They suggested that each person has 2-3 plates since the menu was full of small-plate style food. And honestly, I think we could have gone away with 1-2 plates per person since we were very full by the time we finished eating The interior is absolutely gorgeous. Part of me wishes that we got the chance to sit down inside, but maybe that will be the excuse to come visit another time. The Blueberry Clafoutis was my favorite dish. The blueberries were sweet, and it was like eating a blueberry crepe/pancake. The sweetness level was not overpowering, which was what made this dish so enjoyable. The "Bhel" Hummus and Spicy Whipped Feta were both very tasty. I loved the fruitiness of the "Bhel" Hummus and loved how the Spicy Whipped Feta had its pomegranate bits. Each were so unique, and it was an adventure with each bite. Excellent service and food overall. It was a pleasant new experience.

Every single item on it was delicious and had me excited for the rest of the meal. We also had the gnocchi, which was surprisingly great since I'm not usually a gnocchi person. The duck was the star for me - perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. It was also a generous portion and definitely filling. Highly recommend if you're in Chicago. I chose a seat at the bar, and without much trigger got into a nice conversation with other patrons. But why was I there again? Oh yes, the food. OMG, it was delicious: a winter salad, half a duck and an affogato. The portions were not shabby at all, and I am glad that the server warned me from another initial consideration which would definitely have been too much. I enjoyed every bite of all items, flavorful, tender and juicy, and simply on point. Will definitively come back when I return to Chicago. PREVIOUS REVIEW Very popular place and hence rather hard to get in. But the wait for once is worth it. The menu items, which come in small portions (tapas size), are very special and not to be found anywhere else. As surprising as some of the items may sound, they all looked great (even the once on other people's plates), and the ones I could get to taste were very special, interesting flavors, and very good. No specific recommendations but would suggest to leave some space for lemon panna cotta. Casual and trendy atmosphere on the Magnificent Mile. Definitely will go back again when in Chicago.

I arrived 25 minutes later and they hadn't even made my order. From there, 3 different people told me it'll be another 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. I ended up waiting 20 minutes and during that whole time there was no apology. One of the workers handed me a tea and later I saw they included dessert in the bag. It was a nice gesture but I was frustrated that it wasn't acknowledged by the staff at all and part of my order was still missing. I paid $2.25 for a Yogurt & Cucumber Sauce which I never received. The Caspian Mix Grill with Albaloo Polo was very good. The filet mignon & chicken breast were both juicy and well-seasoned. The Albaloo Polo is plain basmati rice mixed with saffron, caramelized onion and sauteed sweet & sour cherries. I liked the rice but it felt like they just threw the cherries on top rather than incorporate it into the rice. It was very filling, enough to share with 2 people, and good value. The Bamieh & Balava were also fresh, sweet, and a nice bite to end on. Ultimately, I would give the food a 4/5 and the service a 2/5, hence my 3/5 rating.

Nothing really went together and it was warm, which didn't make sense and made it worse. The steak was cooked how I asked, but the sauce was extremely oily and had this strange burnt flavor which likely was from the onions? The onions were extremely burnt, nothing like a typical caramelized delish onion. The chicken had the same issue, everything had that same burnt tasting oil and the chilies sitting in it just made it more intense. It was honestly just edible and nothing I would come back for or recommend. I love middle eastern food and know that even with a midwestern there are some considerations to take with the flavor profile but the burnt onions, burnt spicy oil in the chicken, and a warm salad are all indications for poor execution. As for the actual ambiance and experience it was my birthday and there was no acknowledgment at all not even someone to check in on whether the food was okay. I did not want to order a dessert after the salad, steak, and shawarma all missing the mark. The seating was very uncomfortable. It is cramped and communal and at this price point I expected a much better experience. Will admit I should have looked into the actual dining set up before booking a late night reservation but even still there are so many better places in Chicago where you can get better food and actually feel comfortable. Overall it just was not worth it. I would not return or recommend this spot.
