This used to be one of my favorite Indian restaurants in Dallas. It seems to have steadily gone down over the past year. The owners don't seem to be at this one as much as the one in Plano which is consistently better than the one at Knox and 75. The staff does t speak English very well, or and Indian dialect for that matter. They can't be bothered to take an order until they finish the chores they should have done prior to opening. The rice was cold and underdone, an Indian party foul. The chicken masala was warm but not close to the temperature one would think your first dish may come out. I mean, I'm fine with paying 15 bucks for lunch, but it should be that level of quality if the price point is set so high. Once I got them to zap my meal, it was hot and tasty. The phaal isn't as spicy as one would think, but I like the spiciest of all levels in most restaurants where you get to pick the level. Overall, the owners need to get ahold of this one and return it to its former great place that the other one is still operating at in Plano. Until I see from others, I'm going to just go to the one in Plano. read more

My go-to Indian place. Love the masala, saag and garlic naan!

There's not a lot of very good Indian restaurants in East Dallas so this find was a pleasant surprise. Overall the food was good, service was good and the place was very clean. I ordered the large portions and it had plenty of meat. Naan was a good price too. I've never been bothered by the background music before but the music here could use some work... it's almost like a very annoying type of elevator music with a quick tempo. Good indian food close to uptown, knox henderson, and m streets! My wife and I absolutely crave indian food sometimes and this is our go-to place. Prices are reasonable and the selection is good. I would have given this place 4 stars if it hadn't been for the serving sizes so 3 stars it is. I ordered the kofta masala and it was awesome except for the fact that it only came with 3 kofta balls...yes you heard right, 3!!! I thought for sure this was a mistake so then I asked the waiter to confirm and he said that the regular portion gets 3, the Texas size gets 5. I just couldn't believe it! These balls are not big at all not to mention inexpensive to make. So yes, I think for $8.99 I should be able to get more. Plus to get a side of naan was $2 extra while most Indian places give it away for free. My friend had the vegetable jalfarezi and it was a good size so maybe I'll give it another chance. I would say that they have done a good job of improving their service since I was last their. I had some previous issues with how they treated their customers, but they've had many updates. Some of the prior staff appear more present and focus more on the customers. They also updated the decor, which wasn't a huge problem for me before, but it is nice to see the update. read more

Roti grill crushed it tonight! It's Valentine's so figured something would be be messed up but everything was perfect!!!! We asked for no oil or butter on items and it all turned out as asked but was all still delicious!!! I want to give them more stars, but the portions were extremely small for the price. I ordered "Texas sized" chicken tikka masala and it was delicious! However I received one piece of naan and not enough rice to go with the amount of tikka masala, saved it for leftovers and made my own rice the next day. Love, love, love this place. I've tried a few other Indian places in my travels across the country and NONE come even close to comparing to Roti Grill. The breads are awesome (esp the aloo paratha) and the chicken tikka masala is the bomb! I get the texas sized version that comes w/ the bread and I can eat it three times so the price, while a little high, turns out to be worth it. The raita is also some of the best I've had. Food was "okay". I didn't expect amazing indian food in Dallas but I expected better than this. I ordered take out and actually ended up reseasoning the tikka masala when I got home, and didn't even finish my chicken curry. The naan was thick and not up to par with other restaurants (that are half the price). Overall, not disappointed but definitely not impressed by this place. If you aren't familiar with Indian food this place is fine, but if you've had good indian food before then I definitely would not recommend this restaurant. read more

Roti Grill is so good that we ate dinner here two nights in a row on a visit to Dallas. The vegetable pakodas are excellent as are the sauces to eat them with (mint and tamarind chutneys). This is one of our favorite Dallas restaurants. When we come to uptown from Fort Worth, we usually plan a stop here. The balti dishes (sometimes hard to find elsewhere) are all tasty, and the spice levels are consistent. The naan is fluffy and served hot--we especially like the spinach and the garlic versions. Beware, though: the garlic is strong! Friends rave over the tandoori, but we can't ever resist the balti. read more

I have never been to India or been to a ton of Indian restaurants, but I know that I enjoy eating here. The food is hot and fresh, and the people working are always nice. It's a good change of pace from your typical Dallas fare. If you're looking for gourmet, this isn't your place. It's casual, quick and inexpensive, but it's good! Rock-solid fast casual Indian cuisine. We stuck to the basics on outlet first visit, and both the Chicken Tikka and Vindaloo were quite good. Would recommend this over Masala Wok. Clean and seemed to have been recently refurbished. I will definitely be back soon! read more

The food here is consistently good for "fast food" Indian. I've been eating here for years. Be careful if you are ordering over the phone for take-out. They FREQUENTLY mess it up (sides and/or sauces are missing, person taking the order doesn't get it right despite repeating several times, etc.). For that reason a four star rating is reduced to a three. read more

Ok this actually happened. I had never gone to an Indian place before so I ordered a sample of different things. The waiter brought our food--or at least what I thought was the appetizer part---and we started eating it. He came back a few minutes later, apologized and said he had brought the wrong order. Instead of just bringing us the correct order, he INSISTED on taking back the order we had begun eating! Huh??? So he took back a curry dish with two big spoonfuls out of it and a rice dish. We thought, well the only reason he would do that would be because he wanted to "repair" it and serve it to the correct table. The lamb kebobs were kind of a hamburgerish consistency. The Chicken Masala is delicious! The Naan with garlic was a little disappointing, parts were buttery and awesome and other parts were plain and doughy. Price was a bit high ($13 for a regular chicken masala + naan). I wish the server had told me I could pay the same price $13 for a texas size chicken masala that includes bread. Ah well. I had an indian food craving and being new to the area, I gave it a try, and was pleased overall with the food, so I'll probably be back. read more

Having grown up in Dallas and having tried all of the major Indian food restaurants in this city, I am a self-appointed Indian food critic...... Roti Grill from a food quality and flavor perspective is the very best!! It's a fast-casual restaurant with no waitresses and no frills. It is always super clean and the food is super fresh. Fast, casual Indian cuisine - satisfies my naan cravings! Ample portions, variety, easy menu to navigate. Not every dish you might look for, but all the basics are here: tandoori, dahl, naan, biryani, plus specials advertised at the register. I went here for lunch this weekend and got the Two-Step, Texas sized, lamb korma and garlic naan. The place was not crowded at all, despite it being noonish, and it was clean, etc. I ordered my food 'extra hot' and to go. So I get home and check this out... the garlic naan is greasy, but tastes decent. The only non-bland food, truly. I knew it wasn't going to be authentic Indian, but c'mon! The lamb korma is not spicy whatsoever, despite the 'extra hot' written on the container. And let's talk about portions.. maybe it's because I got this to go, but if this is the Texas sized, I'd hate to see the regular portion! It must be tiny! I got about 1 cup of sauce/lamb, and 1 cup of rice. I paid extra for lamb, and there were maybe five chunks of meat in the entire thing. The price for all of this was too high for what you get. If you're going to toss out that kind of cash, just go to a real Indian place and get the generous portions they give you. read more

Finding some things I like about living here! As a British ex-pat, Indian restaurants have been one of the things I've missed (it's a bit like pizza to Americans-cheap, eat in, take out and delivery) but in the places I have lived in the US I have not found many. Here, there is one a short walk from our tiny apartment, with good food, not expensive, that has a bonus!! The chai. It's good and spicey and unsweetened. I find coffee shop chai too sweet for my taste. Oh, and one more thing, when I left the restaurant, the guy at the register called out "goodbye Sarah", which he must have got from my credit card, since I never told him! read more
