They have been cleaning out my storm drain line for years for around $200. This year the price went up to over $400 and when it rained the line backed up worse than before. So I called and the person that answered said she would have to charge me again to come out. But then I spoke with a supervisor who agreed to come out at no additional cost. Then the tech arrived. I showed him the issue. He made up some BS about if there were rocks in the line he would have to bill me and that I should have the line jetted at a cost of $850. So at this point I am done with them. I don't trust the quality of their work and everyone is giving me a different story. They aren't even real plumbers but want to charge plumbers rates. read more

Everything is expensive these days but I have no problem considering the equipment that they use and no charge for travel time. The price was reasonable for same day service in my opinion. Charged me for 2 hours and didn't clear the drain. I had to call another plumber, who cleared it in 10 minutes. I was not asked permission to run into the second hour. I told them if they charged me for the 2nd hour, I would never use Roto Rooter again. I've had an enormously frustrating experience which ruined my entire Sunday waiting on a plumber who was supposed to arrive between 2-4. At 4pm, I had no word from a plumber so I called the reservation line. They have no system in place to contact the plumber assigned to the job - all they could do is send an electronic message to the plumber asking him to contact me with his whereabouts. At 4:20 I get an automated text that says he's on his way and at 5:45 pm there is still no one here and no update. Each time I call the reservation line, I'm on hold for 15-20 minutes before the same poor girl answers and still says she has NO information on when I can expect a plumber. I cancelled - after wasting an entire July Sunday - I am beyond frustrated with this experience. read more

This company came to fix a simple, repeatedly clogged kitchen drain. They sent a worker who spent almost four hours fixing the problem. I wasn't home and he evidently confused some wetness from a recent heavy rain with a leakage from a sewer pipe, which, of course, after many hours, he could not find. They ended up charging me $929.25 for over three and a half hours for labor, whereas anyone who opened the drain in the past charged less than $200. The problem with the drain wasn't different than in the past. Furthermore, they left, nor sent to us, any invoice for the work they did; neither for this job or an unrelated job they did a week before. I strongly recommend you never use this company, they approach being fraudulent! They have NEVER returned my repeated calls. read more

We were very disappointed with our experience with Roto Rooter. We called for assistance with a clogged kitchen sink in April, and a team from Roto Rooter came out to help. They were not able to clear the pipes from the kitchen so did so from the pipe cleanout in our crawl space. After they left, we noticed a strong smell coming from the crawl space and discovered that the Roto Rooter team had allowed greasy gunky sewage to spill out of the cleanout all over the crawl space. It was not a small spill, which we would have chalked up to part of doing this work, but a significant flooding of the space with sewage. We called Roto Rooter to have someone come back to clean it up and got the run-around for more than a day - and only managed to get the team back to clean it up after indicating that we would need to call BBB. Two months later, the drain clogged again - as it had not been adequately clearer - and backed up into our shower. When we called Roto Rooter to see if their work was guaranteed, they said they could not help us as the technicians had written "not guaranteed" by hand on our contract - without giving us any reason why that would be the case. So we had to pay another plumbing company to come in and fix their shoddy work. We are very disappointed with our experience with Roto Rooter and would not recommend to others. read more

We had drainage problem in the bathtub, bathroom sink, and dishwasher. Tim came over and fixed all of it within an hour. The best part was he explained to me what was going on and how to care for or prevent future problems. I love the email they send you right before the service person comes over with a photo and a little background and talents of the person. I had a terrible experience with this company's customer service. I arranged for a service call for a backed up drain. The appointment was scheduled for between 2-4 pm. No one arrived during this time or called. I waited 10 more minutes and called the office. I received the answering service and left a message that no one had come or called. When I was not called right back, I texted a message to the number that had confirmed my appointment for that day. I received a response that it was after business hours and they would respond the next day. Finally, someone called back and said they wouldn't make it that day. After that I called Roy's sewer services for an appointment the next week. They called to confirm a half hour before they arrived. I was pleased with their services. He told me that he just had learned of the issue with the cancellation of my appointment. He offered to have someone come out on Monday, but I couldn't take that day off. I have used Roto Rooter about eight or ten times, and every time they answer the phone right away, they come in a short period of time, usually next day, and the prices are about the same as other plumbers. What I really like is that they do a great job! This last visit was done by Joe Foletti. We had a faucet installation in tight quarters. It was challenging, but he did a great job and the result is so perfect! I always have a good result with Roto Rooter, and I especially appreciate Joe. Highly recommended! read more

DO NOTUSE THIS SERVICE! SCAMMERS! We had stopped up toilets and called them as our regular plumber was not available. They cam out and ran a camera and did some work but was not sure if they actually cleaned the drain. The toilet still was sluggish. They also reported that my cast iron sewer under the house has crumbling and we needed thorough cleaning and then a plastic spray-on liner or as an alternative jackhammering the floors and replacing the pipes. The least costly was the spray-on plastic liner for $18,000 plus a 10% discount. They charged me $250 for the camera as well. We called our tried and true plumber ( Owen Plumbing, Yorba Linda ) and the owner recommended his sewer / repipe specialist. He came out and ran a camera. (No charge since it was a referral from Owen Plumbing) He reported that the pipe was NOT damages, just needed a good scrubbing clean out which he would do for $1500. It pays to get second opinions. I plan to report Roto-Rooter to the BBB for shady practices. read more

Last Saturday we noticed water backing up in the tub and called this company. They explained that it would cost twice as much for them to come on the weekend so we arranged to be home on Monday and made an appointment. We got a last minute phone call cancelling so although inconvenient, we rescheduled to Tuesday (now it's 3 days with no showers or laundry). Two very nice men came Tuesday morning. Trouble is they had no idea what they were doing so they spent the morning talking on the phone with a third person and digging up a little gravel and then they left. The price for this was $436. When I called to discuss it, I got a massive helping of defensiveness and mansplaining, so I called a reputable local company who came over and fixed the problem. read more

Cody did a fantastic job clearing our sewer line. A competing company said it couldn't be cleared at the toilet level, we would need to dig in the front yard (i.e. I would have to dig) in search of a cleanout, or we would have to install a new cleanout. Quote: $1,000-$3,000. Cody ran a snake from a bathroom and cleared it and re-sealed two toilets in under two hours at about $450. Great service, fast and efficient. read more

Highly recommend NEVER using this company. In a pinch, we called for a weekend service. Rates were not quoted and are outrageous at $345/hour. Please use extreme caution and find another company in advance of any unexpected plumbing issues, so you never need to use Marin Roto-Rooter. We questioned the invoice and tried to escalate to management without success. To top it off, we still have issues with the work they completed. What can I say? Adam Gallagher is the man! We had a fairly complex and risky pipe excavation that we were required to do by the county. The problem was that the pipe went through our easement on our neighbors lot. And our neighbor misunderstood his legal obligations about the easement and caused one heck of a temper tantrum. Adam was always the calm, cool professional and handled the unfortunate abuse and pressure from our neighbor during the process. With the town, arborists, and crazy neighbor watching, he went about his work, and successfully installed a new line near the roots of a redwood tree. Adam is as good of a technical plumber as he is a solid professional. He didn't have to stay on the job because of obnoxious neighbors, but he did. And he saved the day! read more

Left us hanging with two clogged toilets. Promised a 2 hour service window but never showed or called an hour after the appointment time with an ETA update. I called their answering service 3 or 4 times but couldn't get any sort of definitive answer as to when they might show. I never got to speak with the plumber. It was getting late so I canceled the service call. They may be great plumbers but their customer service needs work. There are plenty of alternatives out there. read more

My plumbing was backing up and sewage was spewing into my bathtub. How wonderful. We had a home warranty so we made a claim and they sent out their plumber. Not our choice; totally theirs. Their plumber said the fix wasn't covered under warranty and that it would cost $12,000 to replace the sewer lateral which was needed to repair our back up. I called Roto Rooter in Novato, who had done a plumbing inspection just before we bought the house a few months back and declared that everything was fine, to scream at them for having missed something so obvious and expensive. They sent a rep back to the house and was able to prove that the home warranty plumbing outfit was a bunch of crooks and they proceeded to repair the back up for a couple of hundred dollars, all covered by the now very embarrassed home warranty company. I felt bad for screaming at them, and was very grateful they got us out of this stinking (literally) mess quickly and cheaply. I highly recommend them. read more

Tim came to clear a blocked drain in our kitchen. After a few hours of trying to snake, he had to call in his boss. They spent 7 hours snaking to the tune of $1600, after which they told us they had NOT resolved the issue and would have to come back to "camera" the pipes to find out where the blockage was. We had Roy's Sewer Service come out the next day, and they fixed the problem. Avoid Marin Roto Rooter at all costs. A total rip off. read more

Run the garbage disposal.... and both of the showers back up, toilets won't flush..??!! Food particles in the bathtub??!!! At least it wasn't poop. I pulled out the sewer inspection report from when I first bought the place back in 2012.... checked homeowners policy, prepared myself mentally to be told that I need to replace the sewer lateral. Called my regular plumber, who knows me and my house, but was so desperate and worried that I started going down the Yelp list. Tina answered my call, talked with me about the problem, gave me some advice about dealing with homeowners insurance. Said that someone could be out within a couple of hours. Jared came out during designated time, Tina gave me a heads up right before he arrived, which was very nice and professional. Turns out, I only needed a clean out. Jared ran a giant snake down the cleanout, a couple of hundred bucks later, my toilet is flushing better than ever! John Selhorst did a great job. He was very friendly as he abided by the 6-foot social distancing between people as he did his work. His professionalism and cheerful nature caused us to respect Roto-Rooter even more. He took care of our root intrusions at 8', 21', 35' and everything is running smoothly again, yay! He is also a good detective, experienced and observant. He advised running water in every p-trap monthly to keep it full of water and doing its job. I really like the tech upgrades that Roto-Rooter has adopted compared to 4 years ago (which was the last time we needed them to save us) ... they now text you a picture of the technician and a little bio to personalize the experience and let you know that they're on time and en route to your location. This is a Roto-Rooter review for the one that is in DeLand, FL. Jeff was the technician that came out to pump out our septic. He was great and explained everything he was doing. Did a great job. Explained how the septic tank works, showed me what was causing the problem & in all was a very experienced man. You could tell he didn't have this job just as "it's a job". He knew a lot about his job and didn't mind doing it. We all must admit that it's not a clean job to do, it's one of those "dirty jobs" like the TV show. Jeff saw what he needed to do and did it.
