This is in process. In 2010/2011 I hired Roto Rooter to use the trenchless replacement/pipe bursting system to replace my sewer lateral line. The Roto Rooter national website says the new line should last up to 50 years. I'm selling my house, and a video inspection required by the city revealed numerous problems in the line they worked on, with an estimate of $22,000 (!) to fix work, such as joints come loose, done only 11 years ago. I am hoping we can resolve this reasonably, fairly and amicably given Roto Rooter's excellent rep for customer service and longtime local ownership. Perhaps they will make the fixes. However time is of the essence and I'm not satisfied by the slow response. I got a call back Friday after several days of trying. Escrow is closing in 6 days, so I need this resolved fast. I'll keep you updated. I hope we reach a reasonable and fair solution, and if we do I'll keep you updated and my views may change. read more

I called Roto Rooter with some trepidation because they had a poor reputation where I used to live, but friends recommended them, so yesterday when we had a backed-up sewer, I did. And I was very glad I did. John, who was very nice, smart, and good-natured, made every effort to solve my problem in the most economical way. He succeeded in getting some drainage going, despite the fact that we seem to have paved over our sewer clean-out -- therefore the job is not yet finished. But once we've done the unpaving, we'll have Roto Rooter back for the final fix. (Word to the wise: find out where your clean-out is before paving.) read more

I used Roto Rooter last month when my drain was clogged in my bathroom. I had tried snakes and could not get the pipe unclogged. Mike arrived the same afternoon I called and was able to fix it in no time. He even found my roommate's missing earring that had been MIA for awhile! They were reasonably priced and very trustworthy. I have no idea how root rooter is as a plumbing service because they never actually deigned to show up to my house. I understand that emergencies come up and they can't always meet their original estimate. That's fine. But, I actually gave you my number so that you could call me and tell me that you are not coming. That enables me to get on with my life rather than waiting for 12 hours on the off chance you might decide to show up. I called Marin Roto-Rooter in the morning and I was extremely happy both with their response to my call, the communication and coordination of the time the plumber would be there, their flexibility to call me when the plumber would be there and Fernando the plumber's quality of service. Fernando not only fixed my problem quickly but also was polite, respectful and helpful in suggesting what I could do to alleviate the problem in the future. Ok - after the popular plumbers who advertise on TV in San Rafael came out to deal with a simple case of blocked toilet and shower main drains over 2 hours late with attitude and couldn't get the job done - mistaking attitude for effectiveness - while leaving me with a disgusting mess all over my master bathroom due to their completely bass ackwards approach to the problem, I called Roto Rooter of Novato on a Saturday morning. They were pleasant and Mike C showed up early, cheer-y and asked the right questions right off the bat. After taking about 15 minutes, boom blockage gone - pipes flowing and nonfuss no mess. Provided inferior service; came and unplugged our kitchen drain, which backed up (again) a week later. When contacted, their representative told us they don't guarantee their service but we could have purchased a warranty that we were never informed about at the time of service. Roto Rooter wanted to charge a second fee of $195; thus, we sought service elsewhere. Additionally, a receipt wasn't provided for a week but we were charged the day of the service. read more

John is fantastic. This was my second call to a plumber for a clog in my kitchen sink. The first plumber not only didn't fix the problem but his diagnosis turned out to be wrong and costly. While Roto-Rooter's fees aren't inexpensive, I appreciate their fast availability and knowledge. John was able to clear the clog and diagnose some other issues that no other plumber (and there have been a few over the years) had addressed. Roto Rooter did such a wonderful job on our lateral sewer line replacement! They had all their own equipment and very efficiently replaced our ancient sewer line using the "trenchless" method. They made a tricky operation look easy even with an old trap, a sag in the line, tree roots, old repairs and other issues. And the guys who did the work really knew what they were doing and were also very respectful, cleaning up at the end of each day. They also worked well with Ross Valley Sanitary to get approval before and after and obviously have their respect. For us, this was a big problem and in less than 3 days it was perfectly solved. We got other bids. This was just a bit more than the cheapest but included a 20-year guarantee and they got the permit from RVSD. We are so very glad we went with this outfit. Theirs was a very professional and expert, team effort. We feel really lucky we found them. read more

I called Roto Rooter when two previous plumbers could not clear a clog in my tenant's kitchen sink. Tina in the office was very friendly and professional. The technician showed up promptly at the set time and cleared the clog with no problem. Roto Rooter also had a $40 coupon online! I had previously called Rescue Rooter who was not able to clear the clog. Plus Rescue Rooter's price was more than twice as much as Roto Rooter's! Immediately went to Yelp and found Marin Roto-Rooter and 3 other plumbers and 'messaged' all 3 via Yelp with a desperate plea for help first thing this morning. 10pm last night Roto-Rooter returned my text saying they could be here in the morning and I'd get a follow up call in the a.m. 7am got a call from Jen saying they could have someone here asap - yippee! 8am John arrived, diagnosed the problem and told me how much it would cost (not cheap but when sewage is backing up in your house, cheap is relative!) 9:15 John & his teammate are wrapped up. Problem is solved, everything flushes, drains, etc. Price was exactly as estimated! You know what hasn't happened? A text back from either of the other "5 star" rooters in Marin on Yelp! Had serious problem with sewage ejector pump. Sewage flowing into yard, unable to flush, shower, etc. Very nasty. Roto-Rooter made appointment (after keeping on hold listening to that hideous R-R jingle over and over). I waited the entire 4 hour appointment window, Roto-Rooter was no show. Also no call. Also no callback after phoning their emergency answering service. Called Mr. Rooter they came next day, did job well, and now can actually use the toilet. Also no putting on hold listening to brain-numbing jingle. And now I can take a shower. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I called about 9:45 am and was told that Rob was just finishing up on a job and would be at my home between 10 and noon. He arrived, was most courteous, came in, asked if "they" usually went up on the roof to clean the drain. I said that that was usual. He checked the drain from the roof, came down, said that the drain was clear and it would then be in the trap. He brought in his equipment, went right to work, nicely cautioned me about what I was putting down my garbage disposal, cleaned up neatly, and left. If having a clogged drain can be considered a pleasant experience, it can....if your technician is as courteous and competent as Rob, not to mention speedy. Now, I am off to all the errands I had planned for today which I thought I would have to abandon as I waited for help. Great service, great price, great company!! read more
