Nice guys. Honest and did good work. I'm giving 4 stars only because the price of the big company is $$$$ because I'm sure there is a lot of overhead. However - first we had a guy come out to assess a drain, he informed me that the issue was my sump pump and we only had to pay $50 for the camera view of the drain. Then after my home warranty company refuses to cover a new Sump pump because their plumber service told me there was nothing wrong with my sump pump, they came back and replaced the whole system. It looks really pretty (a phrase I never thought I'd say about a sump pump) but we now have a nicer system, no cords in the pit, one pump with a reliable battery back up. Worth the inflated cost of a big company for the peace of mind. Also despite my husband and I not wearing masks in our homes and not being near the plumbers that they sent out, these guys wore masks the entire time they worked and shoe covers. I've traded voicemail messages with Roto Rooter representatives about my experience and would like to add the following: Pat responded to my review and elevated the matter to higher management. Given previous Yelp review comments, this was a pleasant surprise. RR Management responded to my VM message. Also, my review was apparently shared to a wider, yet selected, audience within the company to seek clarification. Demonstrating concern and seeking to learn from my experience was also surprising and, IMO, a very positive attribute of the company culture. Consequently, if I were to rate the organization based on management commitment to customer satisfaction only, I'd assign at least 4 stars. Clearing a slow toilet drain to a septic tank was successful. Cost $1,138.24. invoice 13-24864537 on 1/31/26. RR location on invoice-Baltimore, MD. Though NOT an emergency, we were grateful that RR was able to respond in 24 hours by providing a technician with truck and all equipment needed to do the job. Communication with the office on technician arrival status was very good. FYI - I first used a plunger and my own 23 ft power snake without any success. The technician claimed to have augured our system 100 feet and pulled some flushable wipes out of the line. This was puzzling as such wipes had not been used for over 3 years. These were not, apparently, the problem with our drain. Consequently, power auguring continued for over 5 hours with nothing else to show! We were told the drain to septic tank might have settled and/or become otherwise obstructed. Thus, it was recommended a separate camera inspection be done and for us to be prepared to pay for the basement floor to be jackhammered for access the problem and allow RR to lay another line. Estimated cost between $5k and $10k. We were surprised by the level of effort, duration, and cost to clear a toilet drain. Soon after this work by RR, the septic tank was pumped. This was routine service. No drainage blocks were detected. Our plan is to continue to be careful about what is disposed in the toilet and monitor for any slowness. And.........we'll start saving for the cost of a possible home excavation project. So service was prompt and clean. The price was unexpectedly high, and we remain concerned about future problems. read more

A supervisor reached out and clarified that the $450 would at least go towards the actual repair which wasn't specified by the technician but still stood by having to pay the initial $450 to find where the leak is in the pipe. Still doesn't excuse the technician's behavior, nor any real apology. Will be looking for an actual quote from a different business as telling me where in the pipe my leak is wasn't my goal, it was for a full replacement of an old cast iron drain pipe, which partially was exposed in my unfinished basement. read more

This company is unreliable and unprofessional. They signed a contract to repair a collapsed drain and I paid half, then nothing happened while they checked into whether the promised work met local county building code. I initially deleted my review because a rep. responded stating that they did not have the service on record, so I thought maybe that I had the wrong company. I was correct. It was this company that tried to charge me $814 to unclog my garbage disposal. A young man showed up, stating that it was clogged but that it would cost $814 to fix. I was floored by the quote and asked him again, and he confirmed. I told him to forget it, and I called Michael and Sons. They were able to get someone out to my home the next day and fix it for $250. I will never recommend this company to anyone. They simply overcharge. Had a new sewer line installed Jan 15. The dirt was not all put back in the area they dug. They spread it out across front lawn. Then the hole sunk. That's wasn't their problem. They do not do landscaping. According to MD CODE OF REGULATIONS that is not considered landscaping. So we hired another Company to push the dirt that was spread across my Lawn back into the hole and leveled yard. NOW THERE IS WATER BUBBLING OUT OF THE AREA DUG. I'm thinking some of the pipe must not have been joined together properly. The altered the scope of work to not replace pipe under gas meter. So they left 7 ft of original pipe. Shady shady company! My wife and I recently experienced a leak in our home, coming up from the floors. In searching for help online, we came across Roto-Rooter's website, which clearly advertises a "free estimate and no trip charge". This was the deciding factor in choosing Roto-Rooter over other service providers. However, when the technician arrived, we were told that a $154 diagnostic fee was required just to determine where the leak was coming from. I was caught completely off guard by this and immediately pointed out the claims made on their website. I asked how it could be considered a free estimate if a diagnostic must be performed--and charged for--just to figure out the problem in the first place. Frankly, it feels misleading and intentionally vague. In what scenario can you offer a "free estimate" without first diagnosing the issue? Obviously, no one expects major repairs to be free, but calling this a free estimate is, in my view, a play on words used to attract customers under false pretenses. We chose this company because we believed we would get a fair and honest assessment at no cost. Instead, we were charged $154 just to be told where the leak was coming from--before any actual repair was even discussed. As a result, we have chosen not to move forward with Roto-Rooter and will seek assistance elsewhere. **Update June 11, 2025, I spoke with Rebecca ( I believe) at Roto-Rooter, who apologized and agreed that a diagnostic fee should never have been charged, and issued a full refund. Absolutely the worst service I have ever received. The initial meet and greet went well but it went downhill after that. They started the mitigation and did not provide the information needed to replace the pipe. So they initial start was a waste of time and money. I had to use a different company to replace the pipe. The price for the "mitigation" was paid by the insurance company. Over 14k for barely doing anything. Then I called them back to finish the mitigation work once the pipe was fixed and they charged double the price for less work. 23k for less work that was done for 14k. Even with how professional they were, they are a money hungry company and they do not provide the services that you request. Everyday they emailed looking for a check from my insurance company but my company felt that they did not do enough work to be paid what They were asking for. I had to review the invoice multiple times with making corrections to the work "completed" before the numbers were somewhat reasonable. And the cost still did not add up to what they did. They shifted my shower over and messed up the drain because they didn't know what they were doing. I had to get it repaired by the contractor who refinished my basement. The contractor had so much more work to do because of how they cut the drywall. I would never recommend them to anyone. read more

1/23/2025-1/27/2025 Beware of their predatory sales practices. They came and immediately tried to pressure me into calling insurance, quoting me $2000-7000 for a burst pipe and water mitigation services, which ultimately only amounted to a fixed pipe (not included in the quote, and $1350 extra) and air dryers. They are trying to charge me $2600 in addition for the equipment, monitoring, cleaning, protective equipment, and their own travel to and from my house. They cannot explain the charges and told me that because I was not in the business, "I would not understand." This is after I emailed them a couple times to no response other than, "You already paid the $2000 deposit, this invoice is just for the $600 extra." They are claiming that they performed 8.5 hours worth of work, when they were only in my house for less than 2 hours. Their work has been so inconsistent and unsatisfactory that I now have to call another trusted professional to come out and check the work behind them. I received three different diagnoses on what needed to be done to mitigate the water, with no real examination besides using a moisture meter. Their "cleaning" charge amounted to a guy putting a towel down and wiping it around with his foot. I asked why I was paying for them to have gloves, and got shamed because that meant I didn't want them to have protective equipment. When asked who should be paying for the gloves, I told them that it's THEIR responsibility as an employer. Wendy Smith was extremely rude and combative, and the manager for the mitigation department avoided my emails and ducked my call, so obviously they expect insurance to just pay for everything without a second thought. My deductible is high enough that this does not qualify, so now I'm left paying out of pocket to a company that did the same amount of work as if I rented some fans from Home Depot. read more

I have never before left a review but feel that I must warn that this is a phenomenally predatory business. I had a backed up underground gutter drain and called Roto-Rooter after the man who cleans my gutters said it would cost $200-300 for Roto-Rooter to come snake it. When a tech arrived (several hours late, but I wouldn't even bother to write a review if that were the only problem), he initially offered an exaggerated fix of blasting the pipe clean with his jet truck, at a cost of $2,400. I said I was not prepared to spend that much money, thanked him, and said I'd call back if I couldn't work out another fix. Only then did he mention that he could snake it instead.. but the price tag was still ultra-inflated, at $1300. Again, I said that I wanted to try other, less expensive options, thanked him and said I'd be in touch if necessary. I told him that the man who helps me with my gutters had said it would be $200-300. He said that I was mistaken and basically just kept lingering at my property, trying to pitch the service. As the minutes ticked forward, I came away with the impression that he felt bad for me and wanted to help me out, and that the pricing he was giving me might legitimately be what something like this cost. Still, I said it was way too much, thanked him again and said I'd be in touch. He asked me how much I could pay, and acted all nervous like he was going to get in trouble with the company. I said that I really wasn't prepared to pay more than $500, without exploring other options. He finally agreed, but I felt so bad - like somehow I was the one taking advantage of him - that I offered to pay $650 instead. Ha! He was of course happy to accept. When he left, I felt so strange about the whole interaction. I googled Roto-Rooter's average price to snake a drain and found that it was, in fact, around the range I had suggested. I called Roto Rooter to ask for clarification as to the basis of its pricing. First, it was nearly impossible to get anybody on the phone who could speak to this. People would answer the phone, but everybody claimed to be clueless about pricing. Then I got somebody on the phone who had pulled up my receipt and said $650 is the standard price. So why was I quoted $1300, then, I asked. Oh! Because the guy had come in the jet truck. And why was I pitched the $2400 service to begin with? No answer for that. The person referred me to somebody else who never called back, and so I finally called yet again and somehow got connected to Brittany in the office. Her response: "I looked up your ticket in the office & I also spoke with the technician who performed the work. Our charge for a downspout cleaning is $847.00. The technician gave a discretionary discount which is more than the $75 coupon that was online taking the cost to $650 + sales tax." So $847 was never a number that came up, and $650 was purely my suggestion. Long story short, this Roto Rooter will size you up, prey on your need to fix a drain or whatever, pitch you the most insanely over-priced solution and will lie repeatedly about how it came up with its prices. I gave Roto-Rooter the benefit of the doubt and made literally a dozen calls to ask for some credible explanation for all of this, but the bottom line is they charged me what they thought they could get away with. There are honest plumbers out there. Stay away from this company. read more

called Roto Rooter n September to look at my n segment property on Linwood Avenue in East Baltimore. the technician or plumber they sent out didn't know what he was doing. he wanted to begin to put holes in the wall to search for water leak. he put a hole in my ceiling and side wall. I informed him side wall is the only place were pipe is located. he didn't have a leak detector in his possession. without detecting the leak he wanted to replace every pipe in the house for 15,000.00. they charged me 395.00 for the visit after doing nothing for us. I will be placing a complaint with the BBB for possible scamming. Though they completed the job, they 1) ran my credit card without my authorization for $6000, 2) they did not provide a receipt of proof payment for well over a month after countless calls, 3) the receipt had mistakes in it and 4) they charged me an after hours charge (of $2000+) even though I did not request after hours services and did not disclose to me that there would be after hours charges if THEY CHOOSE to show up after hours. When I raised these issues with them, they did not care and felt since they did the service and whatever they charged was appropriate even though I requested services at 8am and they did not come until after hours and choose not to disclose there would be a surcharge for when they were performing service. DO NOT give them a credit card. This is a complete deceptive trade practice. Their bill is extremely if not impossible to understand. They clearly do not care about the consumer. We had the cover to the shampoo bottle go down the tub drain. It started to drain slow after a couple of days. We called them out to have a look. The guy says we have to try to shake it out because if it gets to the main drain everything will start s m back up. Tells us it will be $700+ to snake it and if that doesn't work they'll need to cut the drywall to get to the pipes for an additional $700+. Scheduled time for them to come out. He comes in brings the snake and a wet vac. I ask him how will the snake work as there's nothing to grip it. He says good point then plus the vacuum in runs the water then puts the vacuum over the hole and vacuum up the water along with the bottle top. Then says he'll give me a discount since they didn't have to snake. Chargers me $535. Scam!!! I'm only not giving a 1 because the technician that came out was at least polite. read more

Roto-Rooter was hired by my neighbor to fix their leaking water line on 10/27/23. In the process of fixing their water line the Roto-Rooter plumber hit my water line causing damage to the line and causing water to flood basement. I run a small business out of my basement so the water damaged my office and some inventory. Throughout the rest of that day I was assured by multiple people that Roto-Rooter would "make this right". About 4 hours later Roto-Rooter clean up company shows up to try and save what they could. They put some fans and some heaters in my basement to try and dry it out while taking some rugs that got soaked outside as well as my damaged inventory. After they got done they advised me they would show up the next day 10/28/23 at 2pm. Overnight on 10/27 my breaker kept tripping due to the amount of fans and heaters going in my basement. I advised them on the morning of 10/28/23 that my daughters room cannot even have a single light on or it will cause the breaker to trip and same with the upstairs bathroom. I received no response, but knew they were supposed to be at my home at 2pm to check on things and would probably address the issue then. At 2:35pm no one had showed up so I decided to call the tech that was supposed to come out. He advised me he would be there "between 3-5pm, but definitely before 5pm". I advised him that I have moved me and my family to my parents residence about 15 minutes away since I cannot use the basement because of water, the upstairs is limited on electricity, and it was 80+ degrees in my home (because of the heaters). So if he would text me or call me before showing up I could meet him over there. At 5:38 I receive a ring door bell notification that they were there. At this time I was out of town at dinner since the tech advised me he would "definitely be there before 5pm". They rung the door bell and left without calling me or notifying me they were there. At around 8:00pm on the same day I received a call from the tech's helper and apologized for their tardiness and assured me that they are here to "work around my schedule". I advised them I would be home in the morning of 10/29/23 and they replied that the earliest they could get to my home would be 2pm. I advised I can be at my home at 2pm on 10/29/23 so these issues can be addressed. On 10/29/23 no one shows up to my home until 3:18pm (I know this because of my ring notification). At 2:35 that day I decided to leave my home assuming they were not coming and received no contact from them advising they would be late. I received a call at 3:37pm advising they were at my home, but left and I advised them that I was giving my daughter a bath at the time of the ring notification. I then asked why didn't they give me any sort of heads up or notification that they were going to be late. The tech on the phone from Roto-Rooter let me know that he was dialing the wrong phone number for the last 2 days which is why I did not receive any updates or notifications from them. On Monday I receive notification from the employee who is in charge of this claim and states that "a tech will be to your residence today to address the issues" I asked for a time and he could not give me one. So I waited at my 80+ degree house for hours before leaving and returning to my parents residence. After unsuccessfully trying to pin down a time by contacting numerous different individuals within Roto-Rooter I assumed they would not show up. And in fact they did not show up at all on Monday 10/30/23. On Tuesday 10/31/23 a Roto-Rooter tech finally showed up on time after notifying me a hour before he was going to show up. He took their equipment and left. Since this contact with the tech on 10/31/23 I am writing this review on 11/2/23 and have yet to receive an update on my carpet that was damaged, my inventory that was damaged, my carpet padding that was damaged, my time lost from work, my future electric bill, the giant hole in my yard from the neighbors job and anything else that Roto-Rooter caused from the very beginning. So basically to summarize this long review if you want to hire a plumber who makes mistakes and then the company lacks communication, and drags their feet through the process which they caused hire Roto-Rooter. This company does not care about my small business, my family, my home, or anything associated with me since I did not pay them anything unlike the neighbor. 0 stars. THE WORST!!!!!!! I called about a main line issue that left dried sewage in my basement. I told them WSSC had been doing work in the months prior, but they brushed me off. Chal came to snake the drain. I didn't have a yard clean out so he went through the basement toilet.  He said it was not clogged, but rather blocked. We needed the camera. Camera guy never came that day. Not the next day. not the next day. I had to call (Charles Young) to find out what was going on . He said the camera request was canceled, but didn't know why. I was finally able to set up an appointment over a week after the original snake (b/c I went out of town for the holiday) I only had about four days to cancel the contract for clean up, so I canceled since 1. not covered by insurance and the estimate was $6,000  2. I couldn't schedule the camera guy in  to assess the problem. Charles Young was rude and threatened to "charge me for the work we have already done".   No work was done but over a month later he tried to charge me $2700. Their billing dept dismissed it. 10 days after the snake, Sess comes w the camera. He said the line is blocked. He cannot tell exactly where my sewer pipes are broken b/c it is so full of water but estimated the location in my yard. (Knowing that my main line is blocked) he reattached and flushed the toilet and, of course, sewage came into the basement! We went upstairs. He gave me their estimate: $11,000 with only a 5 year warranty. I went to the basement the next morning AND IT WAS FLOODED! I called Sess and he tried to gaslight me, saying it was my fault and it was flooded because the main line is blocked.  um no. Clean water was pouring out of the toilet that he flushed and had no where to go. 5 rooms were flooded. I shut off the water to the toilet, sent him pics of my basement with about 4" of water all over and ask him to send help. HE SENT SOMEONE TO SNAKE THE LINE. what the **** is that going to do?! He already knew it was blocked. He didnt send anyone to help get the water out of the basement. The guy came, snaked the line and said it was blocked. shocking. A few weeks after I got the water out of house and started my insurance claims process, I called Roto-Rooter (James I believe) and told him what happened. They immediately refunded me the $915 (!!!) that they charged me to snake and camera the line. Thank you for that! (I wish I had asked for more. After the initial snake, they brought dehumidifiers and air scrubbers and checked the moisture daily. Jarrett  and the other guy whose name I forgot, sorry! was excellent!  But it did spike my electricity bill. And all of that work was erased when Sess flushed the toilet and all the dried sewage was rewet.) I had to get a plumber to look at the toilet for my insurance. Sess did not properly reattach the water line after using the camera AND he flushed it when he knew the main line was blocked. The flooding and water damage is from his negligence.  I know it was an accident, BUT he gaslit me and didnt send any actual help for a problem he caused. i spent hours filling a damn bucket with dirty water and throwing it into my lawn so I have no problems putting his name out there. I am now dealing with the aftermath of a flooded basement in an older home including remediation, asbestos abatement, and destroyed property. Also: the whole main line issue was because WSSC did not properly reconnected me after they did work, which Roto Rooter was not interested in hearing. I WILL NEVER CALL THEM FOR ANYTHING. If I had written this review last week, it would've been 5 stars. We called Roto-Rooter to see if they could fix a pipe that had been installed incorrectly. Sewer gases were making a powder room near unbearable to use, not to mention embarrassing for guests. The tech NYI was great, quoted a very fair price, did the work that day, and voila! no more sewer stench. This week, my tenant's kitchen sink is backing up. We had Roto-Rooter come out to our house for a clog about 6 months ago. After the clog was removed, we started getting back-ups over and over again to the point that we could not use our bathroom anymore until we put a camera down to check it out. Roto-Rooter did come back a second time because of the recurring back-ups. The second technician told me that the snake was getting caught on something metal that felt like corrosion. Fast-forward to two days ago when we finally got a real plumber out here. Well guess what, the plumber had to cut open our pipes only to find a piece of the end of a snake stuck in our pipe that the original Roto-Rooter technician left behind. And then they told me that there is no proof that it was them that left it behind. Well, you know, until you came out that first time, we never had a problem in 15 years and then we get back-ups and something stuck in the pipe. Then the lady that I discussed this with on the phone actually yelled at me and then hung up on me mid-sentence. If I could give less than one star, I would. I highly caution anyone looking for a sewer line replacement or any project requiring excavation. Roto Rooter caused a huge nightmare for me. They failed to get the project inspected, which caused the need to redo the project. That means they had to excavate my yard a second time due to shotty work the first time. It took them over three months to complete the job. They broke several electrical lines, left dead shrubbery in my yard, broke my landscaping lights, and left various debris on my property. The management clearly doesn't know what they are doing. Two managers gaslit me several times, manipulating the situation. The general manager clearly doesn't care because he never returned my emails or calls. These guys are not trustworthy and cause more harm than good. They are also very overpriced. Please think twice before hiring them. There are much better companies with integrity out there. It goes without saying that I would NEVER recommend this terrible company. read more

I scheduled a free estimate to have my basement laundry pipe snaked which is a fairly common problem. The service tech quoted me a whopping $812 for a service that takes about 20 minutes tops. He went from $812 to $500 then said he would call his boss to see if he could only charge us $300. This service costs $150 for honest plumbers to fix! They are rip-off artists, find another company! RIP OFFS!!! Do not hire roto rooter to do any kind of work especially if you are going through your homeowners insurance. I hired them to do water mitigation after my basement flooded. I had a lot of damages including the water heater and hvac system. I went through my insurance company to pay for repairs and for what I needed to replace and roto rooter took almost all of what the company was paying and they didnt do much of anything. I'm blown away by how unprofessional the service team is. I have a rental property with an issue. I called early in the morning and the customer service was great and scheduled an appointment immediately with my tenant. Later that day, the plumber calls me from the tenant's cell phone to tell me that it will be over $1000 to fix the issue, but he will not give me any details about what is wrong or what caused the problem. After asking several times what caused the issue, he kept replying "do you want to fix the whole thing or just part of it today" as if trying to close the sale. No, I'd like to hear what is the problem first. I hang up (with my tenant, because again, the plumber apparently doesn't use his own phone) and call the company. The customer service rep is extremely apologetic and admits "I don't like what is going on at all." She asks to put me on hold to contact a manager. Seven minutes later, she comes back and says no manager is available but that they will call me back soon. Twenty minutes later, I receive another call FROM MY TENANT, who is telling me that the manager called the plumber directly (not me) and they are offering me a discount to fix the issue today. Still no explanation about what the issue is. I immediately call the company again, third time now, and customer service successfully transfers me to a manager. I kindly explain what is going on to him, and he is completely unapologetic. He also tries to close the deal, "the technician offered a discount to do this work today," and ignores my request to know what is going on. I told the manager that I don't think this is the right company for me. His response, "Ok, goodbye." What a waste of time, completely unprofessional. read more

Friday night I called Roto-Rooter to fix a backed up tub. My bathroom sink was backing up into the tub. I was happy that the technician arrived at my home as expected. I was even happier that the call center kept me updated with his estimated time of arrival. I live in Temple Hills, MD and the plumber/tech was coming from Waldorf, MD The technician arrives, looks at the problem area, gives me an estimate, "fixes" the problem, tells me what he did, sells me a drain cleaning solution, gives me a 6 month warranty on the work performed and leaves. I'm guessing that he got in his truck and immediately called in my credit card. wow! Here's where the problem comes in: My son took a shower as soon as I cleaned up my bathroom after the technician leaves and the water is running really slow down the drain. My husband took a shower Saturday morning and the drain is back to how it was prior to the plumber coming out. Here's the FANTASTIC customer service: After a few calls and having a 2nd technician come out - a 3rd technician arrives and the work is done as expected with no additional charge. Lisa (call center) and Ed (manager) vowed to make sure that my experience was a happy one. They both lived up to that and for that I am grateful. I got charged $258.00 for opening up a man hole cover after Baltimore county DPW told me a day later it was a sewage back up a day later. I was told I should not have been charged to open a manhole cover to read a fucking met. So I LOST ALL MY MONEY FOR NOTHING. He didn't even open up my MF sump pump cover. First, the guy who did the job did it well. No complaints against him. My mother (senior) and I (disabled) needed our sump pumps battery backup replaced. He came out and suggested do the whole thing for $1700. He looked stuff up on his phone and gave us a qipuote of $2000.We agreed to that. He called before he was scheduled to install it and said he hadn't found one yet and didn't wanna get a cheap one at Lowes of Home Depot. Another day or so he said he got one but was more money than he thought (which is hard to believe in his profession he wouldn't know the costs) and didn't wanna say the price til he came back. We insisted on knowing beforehand. He said $2500. We said never mind and he said $2300. By then we wanted it done so we agreed. He gets here with the paperwork and says it came to $1980 and was charging us $2000 afeterall, but said that's only $20 for labor. He asked if we'd pay an extra $200-300 for labor. We agreed to $2300. Wouldn't apply the $75 off coupon we had. We got the model number (one whole part with main and backup as one). Looked it up online at stores nearby. That exact model is listed for average of $830 or so. At Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes and the supply place in Jessup he said he got it from. Called a supervisor and were told that's just the markup and basically "that's just how it is." You're gonna mark up a part over a thousand extra dollars?! And then guilt us into paying even more for labor because you guys can't pay your employees better but will rob customers by overcharging for parts?! My basement flooded from a clogged line in my utility sink and washer. RotoRooter came to quickly and the technician was very friendly. However 2 weeks later my basement flooded again because the clog was not completely cleared. I looked over the paperwork and the box for residential guarantee was not checked. Since I was frustrated that the job was not done right the first time I contacted another drain company. After paying roto rooter $730, I called to ask if they could remimburse me the $225 that I was charged from the other drain company (to do the same exact job). I was told no, that the work is guaranteed (but not checked off on my paper work). Please utilize small business owners for all of your plumbing needs. read more

PLEASE BE AWARE!! DO NOT USE ROTO ROOTER!! THEY ARE SCAMMING HOMEOWNERS!! My son and his fiancé just purchased their first home on Thursday, they noticed the utility sink in the basement was backing up which seemed to look like brown paper towels or cardboard when they would flush the toilets on Saturday, we called Roto Rooter to come out because we assumed the lines were clogged from the material. Roto Rooter advised it would cost $689.00 to snake the line, if they could not get the line unclogged it would be a charge of $200.00. This includes a camera to look at the pipe to make sure nothing else was damaged. The gentleman gave me a discount and charged $500.00 to snake the line, He was able to unclog the pipe. HERE IS WHERE THE SCAM BEGINS!! The Camera Man "Doug" arrives to use the camera. Immediately on arrival he says to my son, OH you just bought this house. He forces the camera down the pipe from the inside of the basement. He tells my son he has major problems, there are rocks coming inside your house through the pipes. I have a recording of the camera and we did not see any rocks whatsoever. He told us the pipes needed to be excavated and replaced. He told my son there was no clean out outside his home so that would need to be installed as well. He quoted my son $8,000.00 to dig up the yard, replace the pipe and install a clean out!!! Dough told my son he could not stay at his home; he could not run any water at all, or it would cause major issues. My son and his fiancé had not even slept one night in the house yet, they had just purchased their home. I told my son to take the estimate and tell them have a nice day!! We received a second opinion and ROTO ROOTER was totally lying!! There was a clean out right on the outside wall of the home, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the pipe besides it was slightly off which most likely has been that way for 60 years!! The second opinion we received placed a camera down the pipe, the camera went in the pipe very easily. "Doug" had to force the camera down the pipe and manipulated the camera to remove the ball so it would show there was damage when there was no damage. A day my son and his fiancé should have been happy about purchasing their first home turned into the worse day thinking they just bought a house they could not even use at all because this company wanted to try to get money out of a young couple that just purchased a new home. PLEASE DO NOT GET SCAMMED BY THIS COMPANY. There have been several lawsuits against this company for the same exact thing over the years in different states as well. read more

Roto-Rooter just came out to give me a "free estimate" for a clogged kitchen sink pipe. The estimate (more than $600!!) was exorbitant and when I said it was too much and my husband walked into sight, the plumber "called his manager" (like I need to deal with car salesman techniques when I am dealing with a clogged drain) and offered to do it for $400(which is still high, based on my research) and threatened me that if I didn't take it, they would charge me $50 for the visit. When I told them that I had confirmed on the phone that the estimate is free - he said the $50 was for their diagnosis - even though I am the one that told him it was a clogged drain and his "diagnosis" was that he needed to clean out the drain. I refused to pay the $50 and sent him on his way. I am thoroughly disgusted with the dishonesty and price gouging. read more
