Update: I never heard back from local management (only the national rep who responds here). I called a local plumber, who charged a third of Roto Rooter's "minimum fee for any drain clog" to both unclog my kitchen sink and install a garbage disposal! He worked with me on the price which I really appreciated. Our new place's toilet needed a new monitor. This was a standard tankless toilet that is everywhere in New York City. The initial contact was fantastic and I was hopeful that I had found a quick and reputable company to fix the problem. When the plumber came, he looked at the toilet, I showed where the leaks were, he advised that it needed a new monitor, and said that he had to talk to his boss about a quote. The quote he called me with was $850 for labor only plus whatever the part was. By this time I had looked up tankless toilet monitors and saw that they cost between $90 and $150. The plumber explained that the $850 labor was to "source the part". Again, this is a common part used throughout the area so the explanation made no sense. I thanked the plumber for his time and opened a project on Yelp that resulted in immediate quotes of $300-$500 including labor. Avoid Roto Rooter. It breaks my heart to think of the elderly and uninformed people this company is fleecing with their dishonest business practices. read more

Called them to clear my bathroom sink and bathtub drain. Damaged my pipes and is now leaking. Charged me "only" $680" because he could not clear the bathtub drain. Water is leaking and flooded the basement. Complained about it, he returned, looked at the leak and was going to charge me another $600 or more depending on the extent of the damage. Roto Rooter should not have sent an apprentice to use the snake. I intend to sue for the damages if the company doesn't fix the pipes. Apparently there's two divisions of Roto Rooter.. the guy that responded to the review told me because this was an independently owned rotor rooter I had to contact Beth Weil who is the roto rooter corporate liaison for the ones independently owned. I did and her response was they are not able to resolve independents customer issues and would forward my email to franchise owner . So stay far away from roto rooter they are total rip offs and don't stand behind the name .. especially the one in Bergenfield NJ read more

i had a clog drain and a leaky (pin hole) pipe underneath the sink that had too many elbows. they snaked the drain, and replaced the pipe (to reduce elbows for better flow) the entire job took less than an hour and they charged me $740 including tax. read more

I did receive an estimate prior to work commencing and thought it would be more than just snaking a drain I agreed for the work to be done. Roto-Rooter needs to stop sending unvaccinated technicians into people's homes ASAP. They claim they follow all CDC guidelines, but the current guideline from the CDC is to be vaccinated. Roto-Rooter's response to this is that 500,000 people dead is less of a bother to them then having to make a few phone calls. It's weird and it's poor corporate governance. Had their call center staff disclosed up front RR's laughably exorbitant rate of $250/hr instead of making me wait for their tech to deliver that crucial piece of info in person at 7:30 ON A FRIDAY NIGHT, I could have noped that foolery right out the gate and taken my business elsewhere, saving their tech a trip and the company this snarky review. As it was, they wanted $300+ to replace (10 mins) a tailpiece ($25) under my kitchen sink. Nope. Nope. Nope. This left me with three options: 1) Pay someone else a lower but still-too-high weekend rate; 2) do it myself; 3) wait till Monday (hello, filthy pile of stinky dishes). Luckily, because this is America in the 21st century, I suddenly remembered my Option #4: A guy from Thumbtack got back to me in 10 minutes and saved the day -- on a Saturday, no less -- for 1/6 the price. Lesson learned: a 4+ star Yelp ranking is a predictor of nothing. read more

Had 3 water valves that needed to be replaced. Called and had two techs come out the same day. While they were running towards the later end of the provided timeframe, the main office was very communicative and called me to advise. Al was very pleasant. Advised of the cost and what needed to be done. Had to leave to pick up the parts needed and came back within the hour and fixed all 3 valves/pipes. Gave me an estimate for other work I need to have done.... did not pressure or try to oversell me. 4 out of 5 stars because plumbing work is always so expensive! Otherwise, will ask for Al again for future work needed. read more

The two mechanics who came to my house were very professional. However, it cost $535 for less than an hour's work to clear a blocked drain in my laundry room. Also, the person who came first suggested I have the place disinfected and that my insurance would pay for it. The cost would be somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000 for the concrete floor and about a foot of carpet that had gotten wet. They also made a recommendation to reline the pipes into my house for a fee of $7,600. I'm all for making money, but that is ridiculous. I paid my bill, but I won't call them again. read more

We experienced a main sewer line backup with minor flooding. The person who took my call at Roto-Rooter was efficient and friendly. The technician arrived not on time, but about 20 minutes earlier than expected! The technician, John, was very friendly and efficient as well. He cleared the line and provided good advice about how to clean up, eliminate residual smells, and how to follow up to minimize problems in the future. Service doesn't get any better! read more

My husband and I fell asleep and missed the person whose name is Pete by the way w0ho was dispatched to our home. Long story short Pete who came to the house a few hours prior came back to our home at like 3am and fixed the issue. He was professional, understanding and courteous. After three consecutive visits from Roto-Rooter, the fourth finally worked a charm. But this took some time. The first visit went fine, or so I thought; the technician, Elvis (#1) was pleasant and thought he solved the problem, however, flooding reoccured the next morning so I called for a repeat visit. Again, the technician who came (#2) thought he solved the problem, but the third day, the problem happened again. The technician that day (#3), in particular, did nothing to help; he refused to use the snake. He misdiagnosed the problem and as a result issued an improper remedy. He was also very belligerent. On day 4, again there was flooding. After calling for a repeat visit, I received a call back from dispatch informing me I would have to pay for this fourth visit because technician #3 voided my 30-day warranty without my knowledge. I asked to speak with the supervisor and Tony called me back. I explained to Tony my overall frustration about these visits and the voided warranty. Tony reinstated the warranty and sent out a different technician, Edvin (#4). Edvin (#4), after a lot of hard work and thorough investigation, solved the problem, which ended up being in the trap. PROBLEM SOLVED! Edvin (#4) also recommended a valve replacement so I called to make an appointment. (Of note, after making this appointment, I received a sudden call from technician #3 who wanted to know why another technician came for a fourth visit. Again, he was very rude and after choice words, he hung up.) Our hero Edvin and technician #1 (Elvis) came a few days later and successfully replaced the valve. read more

I hate Pete come to my house. He had to come 3 times because we had a shelf blocking drainage system. He was more than nice and willing to come back at the exact time he promised. My wife and I both had the flu and having no running water is no good when you have the flu. I needed someone to come and fix a leaky shut-off valve before we headed to urgent care that morning. I spoke with Roto-Rooter and was told someone can come between 8am-12pm. Another plumber I spoke too said he can come at 8:30am and his rate I thought was reasonable, less than $200 so I picked him. At 7:25am, I got a call from a Roto-Rooter plumber and said he is on the way and will be in our house in no more than a hour. I cancelled the other appt because of this because we needed someone right away so we can go to urgent care. It turns out the Roto-Rooter plumber did not arrive until past 9:00am. I was quoted by Roto-Rooter a $250 per hour rate. Their plumber charged me $375 + parts + taxes, a little bit shy of $500, for an hour work to replace a leaky shut-off valve and installation of copper water line to our fridge. read more

After using a local plumber three times in the past six months to snake my constantly clogged sewer line, I decided to call Roto-Rooter to get to the "root" of the problem (no pun intended). I was spending a lot of money and not getting the results and even my plumber suggested I reach out to a company to further investigate what was going on. I called Roto-Rooter at 11pm on Thanksgiving weekend and was told they could have somebody to my home within 2 hours - pretty impressive if you ask me. Mario from the Mamaroneck area Roto-Rooter group showed up right on time and was extremely courteous and informative. I described the issues I was having and he immediately knew what I was experiencing was one of two problems. Within 1 hour's time, Mario snaked and power washed my sewer line, inserted a camera all the way through on the snake and was able to diagnose and show me two areas where tree roots had grown into the line to block the passageway. Mario blasted away the roots and now I am able to shower and do laundry in peace again! The service was affordable and reliable and Mario informed me that I have a 6 month warranty as well on the service Roto-Rooter provided. Great work and customer service all around! I went on vacation and returned to a leak under my kitchen sink. Upon researching the White Pages for a local plumber, I stumbled on Roto-Rooter. It was a great experience. On a Wednesday, I went to the Roto Rooter Internet site and booked an appointment for 9:00 a.m. on Friday. I immediately received a job order number on my email with a confirmation. On Friday morning I received a phone call at 8:00 a.m. the plumber showed up 15 minutes early. He fixed the pipe leak, he also noticed a faucet leak and fixed that. Complaint for PETER at 914-920-4931 I was very disappointed with the service I had with the Plumber named Peter. First off, I was given a window between 8 - 10 pm. Come 10:30 pm, I had called to check the status of the service because I had heard back from no one. I was given from several minutes to an hour because he was finishing a job. He arrived at 1:15 AM and I was very upset. Because of the urgency, I had let him in. The reason for my appointment was because I had a leaky valve that needed to be replaced. He looked at my pipes behind my washing machine and tampered with several pipes which weren't the issue. He then told me that the pipes had to be changed and that I would have to contact the groundsman to shut off the valve. He also said that it'll cost roughly $356 for the repair of the pipes. I had told him that that valve/pipes he touched didn't need to be tampered or fixed. The leak was worse now because of it and was a constant drip. When I told him I only wanted the leaky valve fixed, he went to his vehicle and then returned and said he didn't have the parts. Peter then said he can have someone he knows do it on Sunday for $250. Bottom line is... He pretty much CONed me because a $356 job DID NOT need to be done and that the washer was the only needed thing that needed to be replaced!!! All I have to say is KARMA.... I know times are tough but to sucker an innocent (who knows a bit about plumbing) and robbed them of money is down right terrible! I will no longer be doing business with Roto Rooter and will gladly tell my experience to those who asks of my opinion and if I had dealt with them!!! read more

Our bathtub wasn't draining so we called Roto for a quote to have it snaked. They would not give us a quote on the phone so we waited four hours for a tech to come in person to assess. He quoted $395 and when I asked how long it would take he said the time was unrelated to the price. I then contacted Empire Sewer & Water who quoted $175 on the phone and had someone here to fix it in an hour. read more

Received a call at 6:30 pm saying a plumber couldn't come for another hour and a half. I had to reschedule for next day since that was too late. Saturday morning, I received a text at 7:41am which claimed the plumber was in route. Woke up to wait. Two hours later, I had to call since no plumber arrived. Company called dispatch to track him. Finally #1289 arrives with an attitude. Walks into our home annoyed. While figuring out an estimate he says to my husband "you ok, dude? you seem like your nervous". We have absolutely no idea what this comment meant but know it is very unprofessional. He quoted us a very high price which we had to refuse. The customer service reps who I dealt with on the phone were very nice and professional. The plumber was not. very disappointed customer. read more

Very disappointed. My tenant called me on Sunday morning just as I was headed out to Church, to say her toilet was not flushing. I asked her to check the tank, and she said the chain must have rusted off the rocker arm because she could not see it. Roto-Rooter was there less than 15 minutes; apparently the chain had simply fallen off and needed to be re-hooked. Literally no parts OR labor were necessary to complete the job, and yet I was charged $278. Will write to corporate office. read more

While refinishing my rental apartment since a tenant moved out, we were having many more sewer problems than usual. It is an old house, but snaking the trap every couple of months seemed adequate. Over time, I found myself having to snake 2 to 3 times per week. I could not get ahead of the situation and recently having had put down new "waterproof" floors I was concerned for problems ahead. The trap ended up backing up sending water everywhere and creating chaos. I decided to call roto rooter who I had never used before, but I had heard good tings about. On 7/31 I called hoping to make an appointment for the near future. The woman who answered the phone was charming, helpful and put me at ease while saying she would check for the next available appointment. She told me I could have an appointment for 8:30. At first I thought she had said 8/30 and was concerned that the appointment was so far away. When I questioned if there was anything sooner, she sounded surprised and said " What do you you mean? It's 6:30 now and they will be there in 2 hours!" I quickly questioned if there was emergency charges or Sunday rates involved to which she assured me there was not. It was all included as standard service! 15 minutes after I hung up with her a 2nd person called to let me know who was coming and how long they would take to get there. The service call with the tech Tony went smoothly. He explained what he was doing each step of the way and even discussed maintenance of the line using enzyme products with me. He was a great employee! My lines are now running great and my experience with roto rooter could not have been better! I recommend them highly to all! read more
