I figured okay whatever and set an appointment. The tech arrived and took a picture of my drain clean out then went to work on his tablet. After about 5 minutes he showed me 3 quotes The first was for $2,000+ and that was to have the plumbing that he Hadn't even inspected replace, the second was for the service I asked for + run a camera down the line, the 3rd quote was for what I asked them to do in the first place and that was almost $400. I am not paying $400 for 15 minutes of semi-skilled labor, no way. When I refused services the guy told me there was a $39 charge for coming out. Because I never agreed to pay anything and they never mentioned any charge (I would have told them no thanks), I told him to leave and that I would not be paying. We called a local non-corporate plumber, described our problem and what service we wanted they said they would send someone and it would be $200. They came out a couple hours later and it took them less than 10 minutes from start to finish. I 100% do NOT recommend Roto-Rooter.

There were only 2 options & this one had better reviews than the other. Tech came out on a Friday, relit the pilot without issue. He turned it off again as he said the burner plates needed to be cleaned. He cleaned them, lit pilot & left. By Monday, the pilot was out again & there was a faint smell of gas in my garage. PG&E came out, said there was a minor leak like maybe a bolt just needed to be replaced but nothing major or dangerous. They also said the burner plates might need to be replaced as they were old (water heater is old). I reopened my claim & the plumber said they'd come back but couldn't get to me for another 5 days. I was angry of course because your tech was just here & didn't fix the issue, so silly me for thinking they'd come back sooner. The same tech came back, I told him what PG&E said, gave him the paper from PG&E saying what they found & his response was "no, they're wrong." The tech took everything apart, put it back together & said "your unit is just old & needs replacement." He submitted a work order to the warranty company who said his recommendation would require me to pay $1,900 out of pocket as I needed my gas line replaced, the permits, etc. On top of that, the smell of gas was EVEN STRONGER THAN BEFORE. I called a completely diff. plumber to come out, paid out of pocket for him to look at it, & he said there was a part on the front that wasn't properly fitted which was causing the gas to seep out in the air. He replaced the one part & my water heater has worked just fine ever since. Pilot hasn't gone out again, no gas smell, water is hot as heck. That was 3 weeks ago! So I only ended up spending $200 as opposed to the $1,900 this company told me I'd need to spend to fix the issue. Don't use this company as at least one of their techs is a darn scam artist who tried to hustle me.

I received an email from them on May 3rd saying that my upcoming auto payment for the service that I had canceled was coming up and that it had gone from $199.00 a year to $249.00. I called to make sure that it had been canceled. Nothing happened. I responded to the email. It was kicked back to me. I emailed at the email in the invoice...three times and no reply. I called twice today. The lady that answered transferred me to the woman in charge of that. It rang a couple of times and hung up on me. I called back and was told to email them or use the other woman's voice mail, except it never goes to voicemail and I already mentioned how nobody responds to the emails.
