Touristy but fun place to people watch. Food was good and looking at the Moulin Rouge was fun!

This is not an authentic Parisian dining experience. The food is marginal at best and from all over - Chinese noodles and Italian pasta on the same menu? The service is underwhelming. The portion sizes are huge to make the American tourists who come here happy. The only thing that this place has going for it? It's right across the street from Moulin Rouge. So, yes, you can look at a red windmill while enjoying (?) an average meal. Basically, dining here was a missed opportunity to get a typical French meal with fresh cheese, bread, soup, and seasonal vegetables (just amazing!) at L'Escalier Bistrot in Montmarte (a local secret without a single review on Yelp). read more

Unfriendly waitress and food is edible if you are starving. Came here on 12/25 for my birthday dinner. Stopped by on 24th to make sure they can accommodate vegans. Joseph was great and helpful and said no problem. Showed up for our reso on 25th, tall blonde waitress (TBW) served us and it all went down hill. I tasted 2 wines and decided to go with the first one TBW "this will never end" Me "I'm sorry." TBW "thank you." Me: "We spoke with Joseph and he said the chef can make something off the menu that's vegan. Can you please check with the chef?" TBW "the only thing you can have is the spring roll salad without the spring roll or the veggie burger with just the pattie" Me "can I just have a grilled veggie plate" TBW "no." Husband ordered a gin martini. It never came until we reminded her 30 mins later. He went with the lamb dish. The lamb was still frozen cold inside. He sent the dish back. TBW "just so you know the sauce is supposed to be cold" Husband "yea but the inside of the meat is cold to the touch." TBW walked off. The experience was so bad that it's hilarious. To give them the benefit of the doubt, TBW was probably pissed because she had to work Christmas night but then again, I didn't come to Paris to eat vermicelli noodles for my birthday. First off, location was prime -- right across the street from the Moulin Rouge and just steps away from the Blanche metro terminal. The server was fantastic. I wish I could remember her name because she was very friendly and spoke excellent English. We ordered the mixed charcuterrie with meats and cheeses, beer, and a mojito. It all tasted wonderful, and with all the people-watching, eating, and chatting with other Americans who happened to be sitting in the table next to ours, it was definitely an unforgettable experience! read more

Phenomenal experience all around!! Me and my fiancé chose to have dinner here before heading to see the Moulin Rouge and were completely stunned by how friendly and awesome the staff was, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND dining here! We started off with a cheese plate and very reasonably priced wine. The cheese plate quality was the best I've ever encountered and the serving sizes were very generous! (Definitely enough for 4!) Our main dish was the roasted vegetable lasagna that literally had my eyes shutting with every bite!! So glad we went!!! My wife and I stopped here for lunch before taking a self guided tour of Montmartre. We picked it at random and I am so glad we did. The staff spoke great English and the service was very fast. Considering the proximity to Moulin Rouge, this place could easily be prohibitively expensive or too fancy for an afternoon bite after sightseeing. Neither of those are true. The visit started out pleasantly enough- my waiter was very friendly, not upset that my French was not the greatest, and the food came out quickly. I- naturally- had wine with my salad (with the goat cheese croquettes), and generally enjoyed the quiet surroundings. Why less than 5 stars- at some point my waiter forgot I existed- or maybe got off of work (I think he may have been sitting at the bar, which he is perfectly entitled to do if he's done working) but there was no transition so I was sitting around quite a while waiting for my check. No real harm or foul as I once I asked for it I got it right away, but my feet hurt and I was ready to head back to my hotel. Despite that, this is one of the best places in the immediate area to Moulin Rouge- definitely worth a stop. read more

Stopped in last minute to grab dinner before the Moulin Rouge and I was pleasantly surprised. The Billy salad was INCREDIBLE, warm fried goat cheese and fresh clean veggies with Parma ham . I also went out on a limb and tried the salmon ceviche, and I could have done without that. The salmon part was fresh but just didn't pair well with the grapefruit, radish and popcorn they throw in. Came to this restaurant before our Moulin Rouge show and ordered the Steak which comes with risotto and to drink I had the Collins. The first thing we noticed is the amazing location of this restaurant: it's right across the iconic Moulin Rouge, so you can have a nice view while you enjoy your meal. I went with 7 friends and we each ordered different dishes, yet they're all delicious. The seafood salad is fresh, the burger is filling, and the lamb with quinoa has wonderful flavors. Furthermore, the service is very good. 7 dinners in Paris and this was by far the worst. Our server, Olga was terrible. First, held the menu in her mouth while she opened our bottle of wine, then forgot to put our order in and went outside to text when our meal was ready. While we were waiting for our meal to be delivered my wife was distracted by another server picking his nose in the dining room. Obviously the place is no concerned about sanitation. I had the Flank steak that looked great but was like eating a shoe! By far the toughest steak I have ever tried to eat. My wife had a vegetarian bowl that was OK. read more

My SO and I came here out of desperation, since we hadn't done a great job planning dinner that night but had to catch a show at the Moulin Rouge. The server was exceptionally accommodating of our situation and assured us that we'd have more than enough time to enjoy our dinner. We started with an order of the duck spring rolls, which came with a side of fig jam. The rolls themselves were dry and the duck was very gamey, but it was all well offset by the jam. My SO had the clam linguini and I the flank steak. The former was not well salted and rather unexceptional. The latter was served over a bed of risotto with some créme fraîche and pesto drizzle around the edge as well as some parmesan and chive garnish on top. The risotto was fairly good, if not a bit oversalted, but the steak itself was exceptionally rubbery, typical for this cut of meat so get it "bien cuit" as they say in French or well done, and not well seasoned. Looking around the restaurant a bit later I noticed that not a lot of locals were actually eating dinner but using this spot as a good watering hole for, presumably, some decent people watching. In retrospect, this was probably the wiser choice given the quality of the meal. Alas, this place did serve its purpose in that I wasn't starving before my show but when traveling to the culinary capital of the world, I expect food that is going to be better than something I get get from the Hard Rock Cafe. Our server really saved our experience though, he was exceptionally friendly and accommodating and saved our last minute date night. read more

Clearly a well touristed place. Plenty of vacationing Americans there with us on an August afternoon, along with a few locals drinking a beer at the bar or at one of the streetside tables. Service was stereotypically Parisian, which is to say our server seemed a little annoyed by our presence but was efficient. It was midafternoon so we just ordered some snacks and drinks.
