As a big ol'queen, it takes a lot to make me snicker and laugh but to see a bunch of a men line dance to Boot Scoot Boogie makes me giggle more than a Japanese school girl with a Hello Kitty backpack. When it's busy, its' busy and it can be a bit of a cluster f**k to move around bar. For a "cowboy" bar, the draft beer selection is EXTREMELY limited. FYI - Coors?! It's not kosher with the g-crowd. The drinks are overpriced and watered down. The bartenders tend to be a bit full of themselves, just because you haven't eaten for three days does not make you hot. Like most gay bars, this bar has a decent production of shit-shows for your viewing pleasure. The game room, on weekends, is unfortunately closed, and instead you have to navigate your way through cocaine-high "attractive" people. These are usually the guys in the circuit community with great bodies, but with lust comes the reality that these dudes are just going to pop/snort more to get their S4-migratory-dancing-drug-cocktail going. The centre bars are filled with these types as well, except where in the game room there are more singles, the larger groups of friends tend to mix in the less confined rooms. The outlying areas contain a more friendly mix of lonely daddies, boisterous bears and fake-ID twinks that are sure to make you wonder why you came there in the first place. Karoake on the weekends is filled with trolls that sing song after song. Too long of a wait. The dancing is fun when you can two-step to some good 'ol country music, and around midnight the dance music comes on. Enter an even more awesome shit-show once that happens... "It's just a little bitty pissant country place..." Actually, it's a great place and I'd have to agree with Instinct magazine here. Great crowd. Slower on Thursday but slamming to butts-to-nuts status by Friday and Saturday. Handsome cowboys and shirtless cowboy bartenders. $1.75 longnecks from 8-9. Nice, large bar with plenty of room - even a quieter area in back "the patio" where you could socialize with a large group of friends. I think Round Up is darling. Just, absolutely darling. There is a medium-large dancefloor to watch all the sweet country-western dancing (which I could do for hours) and the bartenders and door guys are all so friendly and charming. It gets extremely crowded around midnight on weekends even though it is a big place. So get there early and get a good spot! The drinks are cold, the music is great and the atmosphere is love. The only gay club I have ever been to where there's line dancing and cowboy hats. Dude. Fun. I used to come here with my roommates alot... a great place to just hang out and drink with friends as long as you can handle the country music and stuff... My favorite place to take out of town Gays! I took one of my old friends who's in the Air Force and now lives in a small midwest town that has a very small LGBT community, even on a Wednesday he really enjoyed it. Not to into the karaoke thing, but that's just a personal preference, wouldn't hold it against them for two seconds. Fun place to sing, where the audience all cheer you on. This is a GLTB location so be prepared. I'm not gay, but love to sing and enjoy a lively, appreciable audience, however. So I like to come here when I am in Dallas and just sing, listen and drink my diet cokes, while writing yelp reviews and checking emails! I think there's karaoke sung here six nights a week. Some serious singers show up and if you are intimidated by great singing, you might want to just sit and listen. But if you enjoy singing and you got a good set of pipes, you will enjoy the elevated stage, sound system and audience participation and applause! Credit cards are welcome. Karaoke in Texas is typical country music, mostly. If you have a twang in your voice, you'll fit in. I like singing Elton John songs, so while I don't sing country music, I fit in with EJ songs just the same. 3 stars out of 5 because it's not super, not bad. It's a fun place to go. It's the friendliest big bar in town. Here's a gay bar that isn't so dark you can't see. It's big, but it really does fill up on the weekends. Don't expect to dance much if you can't two-step as you'll be swept off the floor by the more talented guys and gals. The bars are in every corner, so there's never a long walk to get a beer or something stronger. There's almost always Karaoke going on, and the music kicks in with a pop song every once in a while to keep everyone happy. It's a fun place. read more

We wanted a fun Friday night out and decided to check out the Round-Up Saloon. To our surprise, there was nothing country about the place (except three guys with cowboy hats). The venue was packed but no cover charge to get in, the music was top 40 with lots of hip hop/R&B, exactly what we wanted!. The crowd was mixed but mainly on the younger side. It has a smaller karaoke room the one side and a pool table room to the left. The main dance floor in the centre and a great outside patio at the back with a rooftop balcony. Service at the bar was fast, friendly and efficient. All in all, a great place to have a fun night out. (We came back on Saturday and again, busy and fun). read more

Not many people there when I stop by on a late Wednesday night in November. However, right next door (with a door leading into it) was the bar where they had the karaoke. Coming from a city that has a thriving LGBT district, its always interesting to check out to see what other cities have to offer. After walking down "the strip" it was clear this one one of, if not, the most popular places. Featuring at least 7 bars, getting a drink is not too difficult. It is a country/western bar that focuses on country music and line dancing. The music does switch over to dance towards the end of the evening. The staff was all friendly and the place was well kept. Orientation aside. Last night was my 3rd visit to round up. Before the staff was welcoming, me and my friend would have drinks and listen to people sing. However, last night when the doors man or host scolded us for talking about vaginas. He told us that sort of talk isn't welcome in their establishment since its male gay club exclusively (he has no idea my story or orientation nor should he, however conducted his job as tho he was regulating gay experience). Though my experience has been all sorts of people's being welcome to enjoy a fun environment, last night we were greeted with such appalling gender prejudice. I can't believe that still exists. You normally wouldn't think of "country" and "gay" occurring simultaneously and co-existing with one another. But it's Cedar Springs in Oaklawn. It's gonna happen. In fact, the first thing I saw here were two cowboys groping each other and making out hardcore. Awesome. My girlfriends hit up the very first bar in this joint and met a cool bartender named Anthony, who whipped up our drinks real fast. Cranvodka, redbull vodka and 2 lemon drops. Apparently they were the best lemon drops in the world, but I didn't get a taste. That night had a good mix of old geezers, young metrosexuals, and two lesbians dancing with their stuffed animals. Lol. The music was all right. Not a bad hip hop selection for a honky tonk. I think we had arrived too late for the two-step!! Round Up is a really cool gay country western bar/dance hall located on Cedar Springs. My girlfriend and I went out with my buddy and his boyfriend for his birthday, and had a really great time here. We didn't stay for a long time, or touch the dance floor, teeming with two-step pros BTW, but this place was awesome! I don't really like country music, but it seemed like a really good time and there wasn't a lot of the douchery that you run into at your typical bars. The bartender who served me was really nice and helpful. Overall, Round Up has a great vibe and although I may not frequent it, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to cut loose and enjoy some awesome dancing. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! This is my go to place anytime I'm in the Cedar Springs area. The bar tenders are awesome and friendly. The drinks are nicely poured, and the atmosphere is just overall fun! I always find myself back at Round Up while bar hopping. Monday-Thursday they do free dance lessons at 8:30. Sunday's are the only night they have gogo dancers. The crowd is always friendly and welcoming, no matter what night you come on. Went there 14 years ago after moving from the east coast and took CW Linedance lessons for two years prior. They played "Neon Moon" by Brooks and Dunn and not a single person in there knew how to do the "El Paso" couples dance. Strange how country bars in Orange County California knew it, and Southern Connecticut people still know it to this day.. Even my sister-in-law who's a dance instructor and never been to TX knows it. Duhhh Last time I checked El Paso was a city in TEXAS wasn't it? And you mean to tell me that nobody knew this dance? I was the only masked black guy at the bar of totally unmasked or socially distance white males ordering drinks. I was able to order 1st round masked as posted' masks required too order and be worn while being serviced' although none of the white patrons did so and were still fully serviced. My 2nd round I removed my mask like everyone else (white patrons) to order and was totally by passed repeatedly as others even noticed. Another black female experience the same treatment. Every other white person was service without masking meanwhile. I put my mask on and was then serviced. Another white patron interceded for the black female. I sent my white friend too test the bartender on the 3rd round as he order unmasked and was serviced. I steped up too pay with my card and look for honesty in bartender's face- it was intentional. read more

I love this place. Not only is the staff friendly and the dance floor fun (and a nice change from the thumpa thumba) but the Round-Up saloon is always involved in community events. They even open their doors to the community for a home cooked meal on thanksgiving day and provide live entertainers at no cost. Each time I go to this bar, I am reminded of the small town bar atmosphere in the big city. It's a must if you are in Dallas or just visiting. Ioved this place until i just caught what was going on here. I've been multiple times (I live here in dallas) and i've noticed that every time i go here more money comes out of my accounts than what i'm okay with. This last time i wanted to see if what i thought was actually happening and sure enough it was. I put my credit card as the official crash test dummy LOL anyways....I use my CC as payment the whole time while i'm there and here we are with fraudulent tip charges. I made even $15 charges to see if that's what i'd be actually charged later and NO!!! I got multiple charges for $18...from "ROUND UP SALOON" i'm honestly annoyed because i go here frequently and now i just don't trust it. Suck's that if i wanna have have fun there it has to risk being scammed or just not being able drink there. It's not the money because we can all agree us gays love spending our money...it's the whole point of THEYRE SCAMMING PEOPLE. that's sick. read more
