My husband found a used truck there that he liked- as he had been looking for one for weeks he got immediate notification from 3rd party sites when his criteria was matched so he called to verify the price pretty immediately, and we confirmed by phone, text and email that the price was correct and told multiple times that it was. So we asked if we could put a down payment to hold the truck until we got there or somehow start financing it. We were told no that they couldn't hold it for us even with a deposit, but due to the distance we wouldn't be able to make it there until the next week. So the next week rolls around and it is still there but the price has went up exponentially, we called emailed and texted again to confirm it was available and asked about the price increase. We were told they mislisted the price, but would honor it since they had told us a different price on multiple occasions. The day before my husband is going to head there we call to get final numbers as we had already been approved through our bank and we're going to trade in our 22 civic as we didn't need 3 vehicles. Our current vehicle was worth almost 10k more than what they offered through KBB and was selling used for about 14k more than what they offered everywhere online, so their intentions were obviously to get us negative on our trade to make up the money they were losing by "honoring" the original price we had been promised. So we told them no thank you on the trade in we would just haul the car back with the truck and buy it right out. We were told we'd have to be called back. About 30 minutes later they call back with a "final number" and there is an undisclosed extra 3k on there, and when asked what this was for they said it was just a price mark up. Which really aggravated me so I called them out on this stating that this was a bait and switch and not honorable business practice to which a manager ended up intervening on that conversation. They didn't want us to bring outside financing -actually pretty much refused it- and they didn't care about the promise/honor they made. Finally after a lot of back and forth they said they'd sell it to us for only a 1k mark up IF we financed through them. Which at that point we needed the truck and it was still an okay deal. So we did. Whatever, still aggravated but we had to have the truck as we were selling our house and moving into a fifth wheel a few weeks later. Fast forward a month later and our temp tag has expired. We called and asked for a secondary temp tag and we were told the state of NJ didn't allow that (which was a blatant lie you can literally look it up on the NJ website as we were out of state customers and could get a 30 day extension for a small fee). We relayed this to Sam the sales person and we're informed for a while and then told we would hear back after we talked to his manager. We tried making contact a few more times with Sam and then multiple other people at the office to either be told we would be called back and never were, or tossed around or put on hold until THEY hung up on us. So we texted Sam again offering to pay the fee ourselves just PLEASE send us another temp tag and we were again lied to and told they couldn't. So here we are 2 months later, 2 payments in on a vehicle we can't even drive and no one at this company has the decency to help or even call us back. It is obvious this is retaliation/back lash from the dealership for being held accountable for their original list price and they are upset they lost out on money, because neither the Georgia DMV nor the tag office had received info on the truck over 6 weeks in, even though they told us it had been mailed off. We asked for tracking on this or online confirmation to confirm this and we're once again ignored. At this point we're pissed enough we're ready to take legal action as we have NEVER had this type or problem in any state we've bought a vehicle in. They don't care about anything but money. BUYER BEWARE! Purchased a 2018 Honda Civic from this dealer brand new, that has been nothing but a nightmare. The air conditioning has needed to be fixed 4 separate times for 3 different issues, costing me over $2k, and the car doesn't even have 50k miles on it! Due to the description on my previous repair order Honda is denying a refund for compressor replacement due to a recall. I also brought the car in to have the compressor fixed, it was replaced, and then a hose leaked afterwards causing the clutch to burn out to which I had to pay for! The technicians should've injected die into the system diagnosing the problem in the first place. The service representatives are nice but that's about it. Doesn't help if they're nice if what they put on your repair orders denies you of refunds... read more

I purchased a vehicle from route 23 in 2012. I had such a great experience I wanted to purchase from them once again, revising the dealership I was hooked up with a salesperson who knew very little about the vehicle which at the end of the day wasn't a huge deal I knew what I was looking for. The worst part of the experience was the rate they provided me with my tier one credit they gave me a 10% interest rate! Insane! On top of that they tried to sell me an additional 1k insurance package, and don't forget the $700 documentation fees and the $400 etching fees that are non negotiable. I brought my new CRV in spring 2012. My car battery died two days ago. I had to purchase a new battery otherwise I wouldn't be able to drive or would need to jump start my car every time. I have a 3 year warranty. My husband called and spoke to Linda who said to come into the service center with the battery and they will take it from there. Also, she said there's no need to me to buy a new battery as it is covered in the warranty. Well ummm, how the heck am I suppose to drive my car to the Honda if I don't buy a new battery? Is Honda going to pay for my car tow? After speaking to Linda, I drove my car using my new purchased battery to Honda. The service center manager, Lou said to leave it there and they will have to call me back after they test it? How long does it take to test a damn battery? We came here before 10am and it is past 2pm now. I don't live close by and Linda never said I had to come back. This is bunch of bs! We called them at 2:30 to check up on the status which no can tell us yet because they still didn't test it. At 3:30 (30 minutes before closing on Saturday) Lou called us and said nothing is wrong with the battery and that it's probably the car to bring the car in for diagnoses. I have never heard of anything more bullshit than this. Nothing is wrong with my car! I tried starting 10 times and it won't start until we jumpstart the battery. It's the damn battery. It's been more than 3 weeks now driving with new battery and car haven't died. Honda just doesn't want to give me a new battery. Stop trying to rip off people! read more

I get that Covid has messed up the supply chain and that cars are in short supply. However, trying to charge an extra $5K on top of elevated MSRP is theft. Honda was offering financing of 1.9% and 2.9% for Tier I credit. Since I did my homework this jerk decided to increase the vehicle premium another $2K. Once Covid is really over this will all come back to haunt people like this. This reflects so poorly on the Honda brand I am beyond words. If you can avoid this place it will be the greatest decision you EVER make! This place is an absolute joke. I purchased my used "HONDA CERTIFIED Vehicle" a Honda Pilot and within a few months of purchase I was already having problems with the motor. I would like to add that I am paying about $30,000 for a vehicle that is giving me more problems than I have ever had with a car. Long story short they had to replace the torque converter (transmission related issue) which was about a $3,000 job luckily for me it was included in the warranty however they had to squeeze money out of me somehow so they made me pay for a wheel alignment. Silly me made the mistake of not only buying this car from this dealership but also giving them another dime out my pocket. The vehicle didn't need the alignment prior to them working on the vehicle for something that was not even my fault and they needed to put the car back together ANYWAY so it didn't make sense why I had to pay however I just wanted to be done with it so I paid about $130 for the alignment and left. Within the next 2 days the car was jumping and having issues starting up. I brought the car back and left it for them to work on early in the morning.  They call me around noon, tell me it's ready so I have my mom take me on her lunch break to pick up the car and thankfully I was smart enough to ask if they completed all the items that was supposed to be included in the service they were charging me for and to my surprise they didn't complete the job. I had to call my mother back to pick me up  and tell her the car was not ready and I needed to leave to get back to work so they could finish the job. After work, I called the dealership to see if they could send the shuttle to pick me up and they said they can send someone in two days. Well I needed my car so I paid $20.99 for an UBER to take me for what will now be the 3rd time in that single day back to the dealership to pick up my truck. This was now my 3rd trip that day and now they were charging me double the price for something that was still not even completed when I asked again. After I refused to pay double for something they did not even complete they came back with this-  It's  Complimentary! THEY KNEW THEY MESSED UP!  I waited for the paperwork to say that I owed them $0 and left. Shortly after I was still having the same problems on and off. I emailed and copied everyone in management to see if I could get a resolution to this ongoing issue and they advised me to bring in the car on a specific date January 3, 2022. The day the Service Manager set for me to come in so we can do a test run he decided not to come in to work that day and he was the one who told me to bring it in on this day. I definitely understand that things happen, however there was no Manager that could speak to me to address my issue when I was there. Not to mention I wasted my time and gas driving over there AGAIN when they told me to go in on this day only to have no one able to address the situation. Who does business like this ?? The Service Manager was not going to be back in until Thursday so I had to wait until then to speak to him. More than a week has passed since then and they made me waste my time and money bringing in my car and not one person has followed up yet January 11, 2022. Who has this kind of time to be wasting ? Especially when I have children at home and I am still having the issue with the car starting on an off. If you made it to the end of this review do yourself a favor and go somewhere else because I have had a way better experience buying my last Honda Pilot off someone off Craigslist than ROUTE 23 Honda in Pompton Plains. I work remotely and I don't even drive much but I would feel a lot better about paying all this money for a car that actually turns on when I hit the start button. Service here is hit or miss. I've had two excellent service experiences here in the past, but right now I am sitting in the waiting room waiting over two hours for my vehicle. I was told the car would be done within an hour to an hour and a half. I just took my time reading all of the unrecommended Yelp reviews that give RT 23 Honda 1 star (you know, since I have a lot of time sitting here). I can see why people are disgusted. I value honesty. I don't mind paying for service on my financed vehicle, nor do I mind waiting for it. But don't tell me a time when it clearly will take longer than the time quoted. I went to help my brother-in-law and nephew lease two cars on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The dealership was packed. Gary Cohen had his sales manager Hector and his sales rep Joe F show us several cars in different colors and specs. We decided to go with the 2021 Honda Pilot SE and a 2020 Honda Accord. We got phenomenal deals on both cars and the service was excellent! We especially liked the personal touch that they provided and loved the fact that you can tell that they cared! We picked up the cars last night and were given a very detailed overview of each car and their functions especially with all of the tech they offer. I highly recommend Route 23 Honda! I walked in after shopping around at multiple dealerships and felt very welcomed and attended to immediately. My kind and helpful salesman, Steve Mains, was such an honest guy. He really listened to my concerns and helped move the process along smoothly. I walked out with a brand new 2014 Honda Accord Sport with an UNBELIEVABLE deal. I really enjoy the drive and the car is a lot faster than you'd believe. The interior is spacious and the standard backup camera is great. Their financing department really works with you in regards to budget. Wilson Feliciano is also very knowledgeable and efficient! I don't typically write bad reviews unless absolutely necessary. In this case it is. BEWARE OF THIS DEALERSHIP. I thought our bad experience was unique, however after reading other reviews, I can see we're not alone. I was looking to buy a 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I went to Route 23 Honda thinking it was a reputable dealership. I got, what I thought, was a good price. The salesman told me the truck in the color and model I wanted was ONLY available in central PA and would take approximately a week to arrive because they had to schedule a flatbed. A week went by and they called me to pick up the truck...This is where the truth about how this place does business reared its ugly head. I arrived and noticed the window sticker and the protective plastic on the truck had been removed and the floor mats were used. When I turned the truck on, there were already over 100 miles on the odometer. Confused, I asked why a "brand new truck" already had so many miles. Here comes the first lie... They told me they had to DRIVE IT up from central PA. I questioned why they had told me that day that the "flat bed had arrived." Now I was even more suspicious. I then saw the window sticker on the salesman's desk. Inspecting it, I noticed it stated the truck was from Staten Island. Red flags waving, I decided that I didn't want to take the truck. I asked if there was another truck (same color and model) in the area they could bring in for me. The manager, who became involved that this point, told me no, there were no other trucks available. Lie number two. All he could do was take $500 off the price if I left with it that day. I refused and asked for my deposit back. I have a feeling this will be an issue as well. Luckily, I put it on a credit card so I can dispute if necessary. I immediately called another Honda dealer to see if they had the truck I wanted in stock. They told me they DID and it only had 17 miles on the odometer. I went directly to the dealership and purchased the truck. Obviously, there WERE other trucks matching mine in the area. It was also confirmed that the truck Route 23 Honda tried to unload on me WAS from Staten Island and was driven to NJ that day. This means the truck was in stop and go traffic and explains the some of the mileage (only 41 miles between both dealerships, so where else had this truck been?). The dealership where I bought the truck gave me their etching price which was about $200 cheaper than Route 23 Honda. Additionally, their tax, title and licence was ALSO $100 less! Finally, Route 23 denied they had run my credit and removed the information from the system, forcing the other dealership to run it again. Hackettstown was able to see, once they ran the report, that Route 23 HAD run my credit. Another lie. This was a second hit on my credit in the same day. Luckily, my credit is excellent, so it didn't make too much of an impact. The reason stereotypes about car salesmen and car dealerships exist is because of places like Route 23 Honda. Please be aware they are extremely untrustworthy to the point other dealerships do not want to work with them. There is no excuse for lying and essentially stealing people's money by overcharging them unnecessarily. Shame on you Route 23 Honda. Go to Hackettstown instead, you will have a much better, more honest experience. read more

Fast talking, attempting to be "slick" and failing to just be a good consultative sales team that provides good customer service. They leave you waiting for the longest time doing nothing (except writing Yelp reviews of their service) when they could take your info and either send to you by email or have you call back again. Most damning is I've been a customer at this branch for over 10 years. Service dept is fast and efficient - no BS. Location is clean and convenient but business practices very weak. Our experience with your dealership has not been good. Starting with our sales rep Richard aka mister no follow up, to multiple supervisors calling us to pressure for a great 5 star review, to paper work not being filled out properly and having us come back to re sign the contract which delayed our license plates and account to be set up by Honda. We ended up driving this car around for over a month on an expired dealer tag and you response was if we get ticketed that Honda would cover it. That's crazy to me because if you are pulled over for an unregistered vehicle while driving, it gets towed; then what do you pay to get it out of impound too! Seems like you have broken systems at that dealership. I'm surprised the owner has more than one location following systems like this. This experience will cause me to look to deal with a more experienced dealership next time. On top of all this Paul in finance said they would cover our returned lease disposition fee, sounded great but I emailed him 3 times with no response in addition to verbal communication. I think the biggest issue for me was getting the NY registration which took just over a month and having to wait for the refund of the registration. I had to chase down Gary Cohen several times but eventually got my refund after about 2 months after buying the car. Steve S was the finance guy and he just wanted to sell me the Honda Care package. Not friendly at all but attempts to be professional. I guess if he couldn't sell the Honda Care, they become somewhat disgruntle. I was highly interested in a specific 2020 CRV EX model for purchase. I found the color and model I wanted at Route 23 Honda and was so excited since it is within 20 mins of my house. I requested a quote online and immediately received a call from the dealership. Awesome. I confirmed with them if they had 2020 CRV EX models there as I was highly interested in making a deal. "Yes, we have three" Perfect. Called an Uber and arrived at the dealership very excited for them to tell me that they did not have any on the lot BUT they had 2021. I was immediately aggregated because I took an Uber there (that the lady on the phone told me they could cover) and now I have to start calling other HONDA dealerships to find what I want. No one said sorry. No manager came to talk to me. No apologizes whatever. I ended up taking an Uber 45 mins away to another Honda dealership and got exactly what I wanted. I called Honda 23 the next day and emailed, asking to speak with the manager and I have yet received any response. It's been more then 3 weeks. Very unprofessional and beyond rude. This has to be the worst experience at a car dealership. We waited 2 hours for a salesperson and finally after agreeing to a car and price we were told they did not have the car. We were told that they would arrange a swap with another dealer but after two weeks they still could not find a car. When i gave up and asked for my deposit back i was given the runaround for another week. Eventually i ended up disputing the charge with my credit card company and received my money back. $1000 deposit paid on Feb 27th that i just git back last week. Incredible. When i called the dealer and asked for the general manager my calls were never returned. Customer service at its best. We all know what kind of people work at car dealerships, and Rout 23 Honda is no different. My wife found a preowned car online and entered her information showing interest in it. The next morning, for some reason they called my phone to follow up, since we have bought several cars from them over the years, I assume they looked up our name and called the number on file. I said yes we were interested and I would have my wife call back. That evening she made an appointment for a test drive the next day at 3 and the dealer sent a price offer that said it was good for a week. The next morning, again, they called my phone to confirm. I said yes we were coming to test drive. My wife showed up and there was only one other customer shopping around the floor. The salesman told my wife his name was Luis and gave her the keys to take a test drive. While she was on the test drive, they called her in the car and she said she was on the way back. When she got back a technician, not the salesman met her at the curb and said sorry, the car was sold while she was test driving it. She was surprised and the man said he would get the sales manager and wait out side. She waited and no one showed up so she left. I called the dealership to ask why they confirmed with us, made an offer, and let us take the car. I asked for Luis and got put on hold, 5 minutes later the operator comes on and says Luis is off today, so I gave my name and they looked up the appointment and it was with someone named Junior, so the salesmen lie and use each other's names to deceive customers and avoid taking responsibility. He never picked up, so I hung up and called back and asked for the Sales Manager, the operator asked me a million questions before I finally insisted she put me through, the manager lied to me multiple times and was very rude and refused to even acknowledge the facts of what was happening in front of him. He said the other customer was there first and we should have come yesterday... meanwhile, we had the appointment, the online offer, and the test drive and they knew we were repeat customers and the customer had not shown interest in this vehicle previously or taken it for a ride. Who sends a car out on a test drive while selling it to someone else? After spending close to 100K there, they lost a customer with a pocket full of cash. This place gets 1 star only because the people that help me service my car and the people are friendly. Other than that they deserve 1 star for not informing all employees of their policies. I was giving a loaner to get my car fixed and going through all the rules , an employee tells me that HONDA handle all the ez pass and tolls. Long story short i get INFORMED about a ticket and given the option to inform my ez pass and that was handled. So a few days later i get a charge of $50.50 on my card from Honda. I find out what's the charge for and it's for ANOTHER ticket they say i received on E-ZPass and they just took it upon themselves to just charge me instead of giving me another call so I could handle it with my E-ZPass. All i was told was "we have a NEW policy that we don't have to call anymore" What I understand is why wasn't I informed of this new policy if I was giving the option to take care of the FIRST ticket with my own E-ZPass. Bad experience trying to buy a new car here last month. They give you way below market value for your trade in, they quote you way above market value for the pricing on the new car. They try to confuse you with showing you only the monthly payment so you will not look at the sale price. They try and sell you worthless extended service contracts and the manger is a jerk. Zach, the dealer internet specialist, answered my questions quickly and in professional manner. He assured me on the email that they honor truecar quote and do not add any additional fees. When I arrived at the dealer, Zach actually came up to say hello. I then dealt with Chad, the floor salesman, and had a wonderful experience as well. He was honest and to the point. **update** Hector called and apologized for my experience and was extremely kind and helpful and was able to resolve my issue. Worst sales and customer service I've ever experienced! Came in to buy a car, was not given any of the incentives, told the price was higher than it was supposed to be. Completely unresponsive, unhelpful, absolutely horrible experience. You would think when you come in to buy a brand new vehicle, they would treat you with a bit more respect. Mahwah Honda will be gettin my business from here on out. read more
