I brought my car in for oil change and there was a recall for fuel pump. They said they were going to get the information from my Honda HRV and proceeded to do the job without my knowledge. After many hours I went back to get my car and the gas fumes were so bad that I smelled like gas hours after I got out of the car. i proceeded to take car back on June 2, 2021 and as of today they still have my car, Sept 23, 2021. while they tried to fix their mistakes they made more and I don't even want the car anymore because I don't trust it but it is a lease and they won't exchange for another car. 1 star for service. They give you lifetime free oil changes when you purchase the car through them. What they don't tell you is that your free oil change takes 2-3 hours. The staff when you check in is very unprofessional. One girl was on a personal call on her cell phone and the other simply ignored the fact I was standing there waiting to be helped. After a few minutes the one on her personal call asked the other girl if she could help someone. Obviously annoyed that she had to work while the other girl chatted with friends she was very unfriendly. Insisted I didn't have an appointment until I pulled up the confirmation email. Skip down to the asterisks if this is too long for you. First off, I'm convinced the cars.com and dealerrater.com reviews are planted. They're too convenient and perfect. How can this place be 4.9 out of 5 stars on a car dealership rating site well-known to car dealerships? I'm severely skeptical, especially after my experience at this dealership, and even more so after seeing the much lower ratings on Yelp, which isn't nearly as closely monitored by dealerships as dedicated car dealership rating sites like cars.com and dealerrater.com (making it less likely for them to plant reviews on here). As a fresh college grad and first-time car purchaser (lessee to be exact), I had done a bit of research before ever setting foot into a car dealership. I know that car dealers, by and large, are actors who have to resort to scummy measures to make money. Deceit is the name of the game. Everything is under the guise that they're trying to get you the best deal and package for your needs. Yes I'm aware that there are honest, respectable car dealers - but with the odds against me, I walked in there rightfully apprehensive. Now for the specifics about my experience. ***************************************************** Customer service was good. Everyone was nice. We had a lot of questions, and although our dealer was visibly getting frustrated with us, we wanted to cover all of our bases. We wanted to know exactly what we were signing up for. That's where things went downhill. After some time, our dealer, STEPHEN MAINS, convinced me to fill out credit paperwork. I was extremely hesitant, but even as I was writing my social security number down and signing my name, he assured me that this was a SOFT credit check that does NOT affect my credit score, and that a HARD credit check is ONLY performed once you agree on the deal and say you are ready to move forward, and the bank is contacted. I did no such thing. We were very specific about this credit check - and we even told him a personal family story about how a family member's credit was unknowingly and continuously negatively affected when he was car shopping - and he assured us this was nothing like that. Except it was. He even did the check for my poor brother, who was willing to co-sign for me. Little did we know... I did not agree on a purchase, as I needed more time to think about my options, and yet later that same day, I received (and verified) an official e-mail I had never received before, stating that there has been a (negative) change to my credit. I haven't had such a change to my credit since I applied for loans for college, and that was once in my life. Was he so convinced that he would close the deal that he thought he could get away with lying to my face and doing the hard credit check? That's seriously poor business right there. We called him directly as soon as we found out what happened, and he pulled the "you signed the paper, your signature is on there" card! I hadn't been that pissed off in a very long time. He practically admitted to duping me, and said too bad. I'm about to begin my professional career as a doctor, and my credit is already off to a shaky start. How would you feel, especially knowing it was unnecessary? I would advise everyone against going to this dealership! It turned out that my dealer was only interested in making a quick deal, and I must say, he's a great actor. "If you were my Korean brother, I'd punch you in the face right now." That was the quote Sales Manager Mike Lee said to me the night of me signing on with Rt 23. If I didn't sign I was "making a huge mistake." Yes he said it sarcastically. But I was taken back by it. Who really talks like that? To make a VERY long story, short, I signed on for a car I didn't want and couldn't afford. This was at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night. I had attempted leaving 3 separate times but they just wouldn't take no for an answer. When I called Monday morning, the next available business day to reach them, to cancel the deal, Mike called me back saying "I'm sorry that car is sold and there's nothing I can do." Granted I never took delivery of ownership of the vehicle and they only had a $2500 deposit, not the $13k I promised. I pleaded with him "please, you can keep the $2500, let me just find a car that I want and take my time. You can have the $2500, as a commitment to me working with you, but let me just move at my own pace and find the car that fits my budget." He wouldn't budge. I spoke to someone I had a connection with at the Honda Northeast office and explained my situation. Well I realized I was in the right, not they. You CANT force me to take a car I don't want, can't afford and didn't take delivery of. I canceled my deposit on my card and was refunded my money. Now if you were me, would you feel obligated to shop there again? It's too bad Mike you treated me the way you did. It's too bad you make car-buying one of the most stressful experiences, really when it shouldn't be. You could've been a decent guy and treated me with dignity. You had $2500 and could've had a customer but you wanted to be a big tough guy and try and intimidate me on the phone. Well now look here, you're out the deposit, there's zero chance of me ever setting foot in your dealership again and I can assure you I'm pissed off enough where you're gonna be replying to a variation of this negative review on a lot of different car dealer review sites. Plus now everyone I know will not set foot here either. Great business tactic. But to reply to your original quote from the top about "if I were your Korean brother": "If you were my Italian brother, I'd do something much worse to you than punch you in the face." Very disappointed in the service I received here last weekend. I've always known Honda, even their service dept., to provide outstanding customer service. I took my car in for an oil change and new wipers. I also asked if they could take a look at my check engine light that's been on. Sure, they say, for the bargain price of $115 to 'diagnose' the problem. Seriously?! Ok, skip that! They tell me the oil change includes a review of my brake pads, tires and topping off all fluids along with a quick hand car wash. This should all take 1/2 hr but I leave my car for over 2 hrs while I go shopping. Come to pick up my car and all the service technicians are going 'did you wash it?' 'I didn't wash it, did you wash it??' The older woman who had taken my car in then tells me no one washed my car but if I want to wait a few more minutes they can wash it now. She makes it sound so appealing- "they're just gonna hose it down and throw some soap on it"- yet somehow I manage to resist and ask for my keys. Fast forward to Monday morning when I reach for my wipers to clear some pollen from my windshield...I'm out of washer fluid. So much for 'topping off the fluids' Oh yeah...worth every penny of my $65! read more

Why do I return to this place. It all started out when they ripped us off and took advantage of my poor mother buying a car . I try to bring the car to the same place to get serviced. They have messed things up every time I have been Here and on top of it have been rude. They charged us for the wrong car and service. They didn't screw oil cap on and we leaked oil in a brand new crv thus isn't an old car. And had to go back and they were ride and offered no apologizes or even so much as a free car wash. Coming here for an oil change they are consistently rude and nasty. Trying to call them you get the same. What ever happened to customer service ? When it came to signing the documents, something didn't feel right, I asked to look at the paperwork detailing all the numbers, (which the finance guy didn't even print out), he showed me on his cpu...and they added $60 more to my monthly payments. When I insisted on speaking to the manager again, this man lied to my face and said our original price that we agreed upon was conditional and that it was based on me putting an additional $2500 down, which was NEVER mentioned nor discussed. I've been a fairly loyal customer of Route 23 Honda for about 5 years -- I purchased my car here, & I've been bringing her regularly for service (both scheduled & emergency/unexpected). I'm blissfully happy with my car, and always thankful that they found me the car of my dreams. The service employees always take the time to explain what, if any, maintenance needs to be done on my car whenever I bring it in. They also check to make sure everything is in working order, even if I take her in for only an oil change. I appreciate how thorough they are, & it makes me feel safer with all the driving I have to do between checkups. Oil changes are quick & easy. They don't wash my car after services as regularly as they used to; maybe I have to ask? The price of services can be high, depending on what mileage I've passed -- but is anything ever cheap when it comes to car service? Sometimes the prices are jarring (even if they can help me out) & I've had to delay services more than once until I could afford them. I'm a poor grad student, after all! The service employees are very easy to talk to & willing to listen to all of my car-related concerns. At the end of the day, I'm really comfortable bringing my car here & I know they'll take good care of her. read more

I took my car in for a recall to the service, it was quick service due to a software upgrade. I thought it should be quick since it's just plugging in the obdII scanner and updating it. However, how do I know it was done or not. You have to take their word for it. I wish it was pictures taking before the update and afterwards. I've asked multiple times to be removed from their database without success. I've escalated to the point where I went to Honda corporate and asked them to stop the junk email. Since they've ignored my requests multiple times, I've marked all their e-mails as spam through Google's mail system. The more they send, the more they're marked and the less likelihood of their emails getting to your inbox. Don't get me wrong. Honda is a great company. I'm on my third Honda and the hubby is chomping at the bit to upgrade to a 2013 or perhaps a 2014. But I will not buy from this dealership, ever. I did my research, knew what I wanted to/should pay for my CR-V and got the price and financing I was looking for. The sales people are nice, but like all others I've run into, pushy. You just gotta know when to walk away. During the buying process at other dealerships I've gotten way more pushy salespeople and ones that have been super nice when showing you a car are extremely angry at you when you say you're not interested. Douschebaggery to the fullest. Car dealerships should change their model of doing business. Anyway, these folks were least like that and let me leave and come back to buy when I was ready. My car has been very reliable and I love it. The service department is open on weekdays late and I bring it in after work 6pm-7pm for my service needs. Very convenient. The staff is super nice and really works with you to let you know of needed service and points out things you can wait on. They have even advised me of service I asked for but wasn't needed (tire rotations). That saves me money and shows the dealership is not in it to screw people out of theirs. Wait times are usually spot on as to what they inform you of. I hope all this continues. Very pleased with my experience with Route 23 Honda. read more

I'm 52. Bought/leased several cars through the years. On the sales side, I got decent deals - 3 cars - at Route 23 Honda, but as they say, "you get what you pay for"....on the service side is where everything went south. I took my '19 Honda Passport in for a "simple" recall on the sound system (crackling noises interfere with sound system). They "fixed it" in one day and returned the car; but it wasn't fixed at all. In fact, it was returned to me worse than when I brought it in. So I went back again, and now, 3 weeks later!!! my vehicle is still not done. I got the runaround for over three weeks! I made no less than 30 phones calls in 3 weeks. The front desk staff all know me by name, but none of them shared any real concern or sense of urgency, they literally kept forwarding my calls to voicemail boxes that no one was listening to. I was amazed at how insensitive all of them were even after I called back and explained how I just can't wait on hold all day and not get any info on my car. It was as if they don't need the business nor care about building any relationships with customers. Clearly, this is just a job for them and there is no consequences for bad customer service. I rarely got any call backs, especially timely ones. I was told my car would be done in "a day or two," but they would literally never call me about it. I went on vacation and they said it will be done "before I got back."Still nothing and no calls. I had to call them and wait again for more call backs wasting my vacation time. Everyone who is considering this dealer needs to know that I waited on hold for over three hours with all the calls. I tried to call the managers, but clearly they have no interest in customer care as they NEVER called me back either. Tomorrow, I return from vacation. A minute ago, I got a call that "...the manager is test-driving the car right now and will call you within 30 mins...if the car is still not fixed they will drive a loaner to my house." The time is 1:40 pm (Saturday, 8/7/21). I'll Yelp again with an update. I called the sales guy who sold me the car - Carl B - and he called the manager and that seemed to grease the wheels a bit. I should have called him sooner. I got a call back from the front desk with an update about 20 after that call to the salesman. This has been literally one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had across all industries. Three weeks to fixed a recall???!! Crazy. It's amazing because Hondas are good but this dealer is clearly not. Stand by for another update. Update (8/7/21): Funny what complaining to the guy who sold me the cars and posting in Yelp will do to get attention of the managers. Within 3 hours, my car is now in my driveway, supposedly fixed, and the service managers called me 3 times and gave me his cell phone. But it shouldn't take these measures to receive reasonable customer service and support. I know I am not alone. Recently my wife got went in to this same dealer for the "free lifetime oil change," which took 2 hours to complete! Who's got two hours for an oil change...even a free one? It's just not worth it. It takes 10-15 min oil change maybe another 10 mins to tap off the fluids. I have personal animus toward this business, but there needs to be a consequence for what happened in my case. I just wasted 4 hours driving there and back. Understand that dealer's are now selling cars for over MSRP, so when they quoted me a price over email and over text messages that's at MSRP, I was excited. I texted them back and make sure they confirm that quoted price in writing. Dealers fee from the email should have added another $1000 to the quoted price. I also confirm in text message that the quoted price would be the same if I pay in cash. they text back and confirmed it was the same. When I got there, the price end up to the $4000 more than quoted. But they still insisted that they are honoring the quoted price. The additional $4000 is a "Market adjustment fee". What a scam and a joke. When I was ready to walk away, then they said they would "honor" the price if I finance with them instead of paying cash, but they can't tell me what the finance fees would be until I submit an application, which I'm sure have an application fee. I walked away, but very upset that I had everything in writing first so that I don't waste an hour and 30 minutes driving there and an hour 30 minutes driving back home. We exchanged a series of emails in which I explained what I wanted and Danielle brought the proposal to her manager. Danielle responded promptly and professionally. After the terms were established, Danielle turned me over to Chad Sanders, the salesperson. Chad made the buying process seamless. Thoughtfully, he wanted to get as much accomplished the day before pickup, so I could get in and out with the car the next day. Simply stated, everything Chad said was borne out. Shady service for a car, I'll never bring my car here again. Brought my car in for a service for the front camera calibration, was quoted on the phone repair would take two hours, the repair took well over two hours so I had to Uber to work spending $40 round-trip and the repair wasn't even successful. Since the repair was attempted, they attempted to charge me the whole cost of the repair. The expectation was never set that if the repair was not successful that the amount would still be charged because I wouldn't have attempted that with their dealership. Staff and management could use training on proper expectation setting and customer service for repair attempts. Icing on the cake is my dash cams were unplugged for service so I can't even check to see what they attempted. read more

My dashboard tire pressure icon lit up as I was headed out for a lengthy ride and prolonged visit to a friend. I got nervous,not knowing which tire was at fault and how long before a flat! Called my service rep, Poppy, and told her I was bringing my FIT in to be checked. When I got there, I initially intended to wait outside( due to compromised immune system and the current virus). Poppy immediately calmed my fears,brought me inside to an isolated table and gave me a bottle of water. My visit was worth the wait,as an ordinary gas station air pump would not have sufficed,because 2 valves in the pressure detection system were rusted and leaking. After a reasonable wait,the valves were replaced, my vehicle was done,and the tire pressure indicator no longer lit up. All 4 tires had been inspected. I dropped off my vehicle for a service appointment (overnight). During the 24 hours this dealer was in possession of my car, it was used to go to the local QuickChek by the technician. If I drop off my car for an oil change, I do not expect my car to be used in any way and have a bunch of extra miles on it when I pick it up. I found this to be the case when I reviewed the dash cam footage from the car after seeing extra mileage when picking it up. Wonderful dealer to use if you want your car to be used for their own personal Uber eats service. I would give 0 stars if I could. If I could leave no stars I would! This is for the service department or should I say the UN SERVICE they offer. I have a 2017 Honda Accord sport (love my car) last month in August I brought the car in for the monthly service, I got the oil change everything was marked off on the car that everything was OK including the brakes. From that day I had issues with my car it was not starting I had to get jumps Etc etc.... After two visits to the service department one day which left me without a car and I couldn't go to work the other day I spent waiting for them to figure out what was going on and still they told me nothing was wrong. That same weekend I go home lo and behold in the morning I can't start my car... Anyway regardless come to find out it was the battery it went dead. They replaced the battery and then I didn't have any issues after that. Well a few days ago I started hearing this noise in my left front tire it was like a scraping noise I had no idea what it was so I called the service center something going on with the tire at this point they probably think I'm a pain in the ass because I had been there I had called a couple times that week. Well they give me a loaner I leave the car overnight they call me the next day tell me that all four of my brake pads need to be replaced it will be $200 for each one, I need my brake fluid flushed out that was another $90 I also need air filters and engine filter in my car which is another hundred and some change. So I'm speaking to the guy and I'm like I don't understand I was there something wrong with the brakes when literally three weeks ago I was in there and I was told that my brakes were out of seven now you're telling me that they're at zero I still have the paperwork I made sure that I brought it with me when I went to go pick up my car that they now have told me is on safe to drive. I swear they think I had idiot on my four head because they act like I don't know what I'm talking about I definitely do have Google and know how to Google things to see what is going on this is absurd! I was told that they was a mistake and they would give me 10% off the cost to fix the car because their mechanic had made a mistake and told me my brakes were fine. Regardless of the fact what I ended up doing was taking the car to another mechanic he told me I don't need an alignment I don't need my brake fluid flushed all I need are brake pads! The brake pads cost me $80 the labor to put them in was 100 I didn't need an alignment I didn't need brake fluid the air filters I bought for $14 at AutoZone! This is not my first experience with This Honda and they're un service department! I love my car don't get me wrong but I will never buy a car here again because the person who I bought the car from is no longer there and I just feel like this place is gone downhill significantly since certain people have left and it's been taken over by others. The way that they do business is horrible I would never pay them money to fix anything on my car other than doing it oil change that I'm required to get because frankly I just can't stand being lied to or trying to make a look like I'm an idiot. read more

This is a review for the service only. You need to watch your car like a hawk. I was assured that proper mechanisms were in place to protect me during this COVID pandemic. They explained to me how my steering wheel would be covered, my seats covered, and the car disinfected before returning it to me. NONE of this was done. When I first brought this to their attention, a guy came out and sprayed lysol in my car. The service tech or whatever his title drove my car to me with gloves that he had probably been wearing all day and drove dozen of other cars. The gloves and masks protect their workers, not the customer. They did come out and thoroughly clean my car to try to make it right. Very disappointing. read more

Went here inquiring about a new Honda Civic. The salesman was very nice, helpful and thorough. But things went right down the toilet when they quoted me a price. Here's the bottom line: The sticker price for the trim level I was interested in was around $27,000 (which means the car is worth about $2000 - $3000 less than that. I have very good credit...I have long credit history and I have never missed a payment on anything in my life and my credit score is always on the very good to excellent level. The monthly payment I was quoted was $499 (also known as $500 lol) for 6 years (yeah, 6 YEARS!). And this would include the trade in of my 2014 Mazda 3 AND an additional $1200 down payment. Do the math and that would mean I'd end up paying over $40,000 dollars for a $27,000 car!! As predicted, the manager was sent over to me and he proceeded to give me the sob story about how I "have good taste" and that makes the monthly payments go way up. Excuse me, this is a Honda Civic. I've heard some bad things in the past about this dealership, and you'll see that in the older reviews. However, my experience was nothing but pleasant. I came into this dealership after leaving another in south Jersey because they were rude and obviously not willing to work with me. I explained my experience at the other dealership and Rt. 23 Honda did everything in their power to ensure I didn't relive it. I was purchasing a new car, but was helped on the used lot. Not only was the salesman extremely knowledgeable, but also realistic and trustworthy. We worked out a price quickly and he was nothing but nice. I was offered a loaner car several times as there was some damage to the interior panel of the drivers door, and the gentleman who sold me the car even offered to drop it off at my job when it was ready. I Purchased my first car at this dealership a few days ago. The salesman Jose was great. He was friendly and was very helpful making the process as easy as possible. I walked into the dealership not knowing what car I wanted, based on what I was looking for Jose was able to suggest some options. He showed me the CRV and my first thought was that it was way too big, so then he suggested the HRV and since then I fell in love. We went for a test drive and I knew it was the car for me. Jose worked a great deal for me and informed me about the current college grad promotion. I found this experience to be stress free thanks to the sales person. This is the worst dealer in the state of New Jersey. When you buy a vehicle you end up paying more than other dealers and when you have defective issue they rarely fix it. Most of the time they say that it's normal. I truly think that they get a commission for avoiding warrantee repairs. This dealer has caused me to hate Honda and I will probably end up purchasing a Toyota. Plus now they have this stupid policy that if you have progressive insurance the will now give you a loaner. I refuse to rent a car so they end up telling me that the issues that I have with my truck is normal or they can't hear it or find it. Bottom line just go to any other dealer. read more

I've recently had the occasion to visit another car company's dealership and that experience has made me realized how SPOILED I am by Route 23 Honda. I bought my car at another dealership and have had it to Route 23 Honda for all but one service since 2000 and I can't say ANYTHING bad about my experiences here. Some of my praises. 1. Just come in any time for an oil change. They have you out within an hour. At other company dealerships, you have to set up an appointment for an oil change. 2. Need some work done on your car and you need to leave it for a few hours? They can set you up with a courtesy car. I have never had a problem getting a courtesy car here. Keep in mind, I didn't buy my car here. 3. On more than one occasion, as my car has gotten older (It's a 2000 Accord with 260,000 miles) and has needed some unexpected TLC, they have been able to accommodate me with a courtesy car on the spot. For example, a few months ago I brought it in for an oil change and they noticed a leak and wanted a technician to take a look it. I was able to leave the car and drive off with a courtesy car. 4. The people in the service department are INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful. I've learned a lot about auto mechanics over the years from my conversations with them. I've read some of the other complaints here and, although I understand where they're coming from, all auto dealerships are expensive and most places will charge you $100 for a diagnostic when an "idiot light" is on. If there is a problem with the car, they will roll the cost of the diagnostic into the cost of the repair. If there's nothing wrong, it's piece of mind about the car. They'll also tell you what likely set the light off. The bottom line here is that if you have a Honda, or are in the market for one, this is a place you should visit. Having owned two American cars before this, (Dodge, Chevy), I can't justify buying anything other than a Honda and I would (and will) drive out of my way to have my car serviced at Route 23. read more

I would give this dealership negative star if i could. They will go to any extent to just bring you to their dealership. They will fool you and set wrong quotes over the phone and when you reach their premises they wont even honor their own quote. I spoke to their internet/phone customer care person Chelsea Cash and she promised me that they will beat any legit quote by $300. I sent her email beforehand to show them a legit quote that i got from someone else. And she called back after 2 hours to confirm that they have reviewed the quote and will beat it by $300. I spent my all evening in an uber from jersey city to go to them and the people over there completely dishonored their phone executives words. Even the store manager is useless as he kept on saying "we cant match your quote". They have no value to customers time and money. all they want is to increase their dealership footfall, no matter what it takes. Please stay away!! read more

Route 23 Honda is going down the tubes with their new management... I have been a customer at Route 23 Honda for over seven years; having purchased three of my four Hondas and serviced all of them exclusively at this dealership. The customer service I have experienced at this dealership during the past couple of months and especially today have been the worst I have ever experienced at any car dealership or service center. This morning when I dropped off my CR-V for a routine B1 service, the service advisor was unable to provide an estimate of when it would be done. Someone called me around 9:45am to upsell me on additional services I specifically declined when I dropped off the car. During this same conversation the advisor told me that they would call me when the vehicle was ready for pickup.  Not having heard from the dealership by 3pm, I called and they gave me an attitude and said "you were called at 9:45am and told your car was ready. If you didn't understand..."  During the call at 9:45am, I was explicitly told that they were still working on my vehicle. At the service counter there was only one other customer waiting and one customer being helped. With three service advisors available, it was not a busy time. Additionally, there were many folks inside the dealership standing around with their hands in their pockets.  Over the past seven years, I have been quite pleased with the service and sales departments at Route 23 Honda. Unfortunately, since they were acquired by new management Route 23 Honda lost the my trust they earned over the past seven years. read more

So here we go My husband and I hate car shopping and it is that time again We had an appointment at Paul Miller Honda in Caldwell when we got there the girl at the front desk paged our contact person 20 minutes later he doesn't show up respond nothing so we leave we were not even out of the parking lot and they called us to come back we kept going and came to Route 23 Honda there we were immediately paired with Ronald Siegel who pulled the car we were interested took us for a test drive and gave us our options Once we went over the items that would make or break the deal he was able to bring in a gentleman Ralph to help get a price that worked for us on a car and COLOR that worked for us The whole process was fast and easier then we anticipated Thanks to all involved If you have to do the car thing go to Route 23 Honda read more
