Great value, solid food quality, and lovely waitstaff. We aren't interested in the groaning buffets in the area when picking up our college kid at the Lancaster Amtrak, so this has become our go-to, under 15 minutes from the train station. Crabcake sandwich was under $13, so I wasn't expecting much lump crab, and there probably was mostly fish filler, but it was tasty. Sliced tomatoes very fresh, and roll was fresh as well. I asked for succotash instead of the French fries (I don't like French fries, but my teenager & husband say the fries are quite good here). Got a cup of tapioca pudding for dessert (all of $2.99) -- waitress said it's made in-house, whereas the cakes & pies are brought in from an Amish bakery (I have tried the lemon meringue in the past, and it's good). Cash only, but plenty of warning signs at front door. This helps keep prices super-low as credit card banks take almost 2% from the restaurant owner, I think. Enjoy an old-style diner with several trucks usually parked around the back. RIght on Route 30 so great if you're traveling up from Delaware to Lancaster, via Route 7 and Route 41 backroads. I called to check on the status of my app and they mixed my number up with someone who was ordering a to go order and kept calling me telling me they were "calling the police " . It's so cute - the police have better things to do , she seemed really snappy when she was corrected and I proved I did an app ( online ) and my phone call was literally 25 seconds so I couldn't have placed an order. While the old owners of Jenny's diner were wonderfully welcoming and provided a friendly atmosphere that certainly has changed with the new owner. I can't recall being made to feel so unwelcome in a restaurant. Perhaps it's because I'm an older white guy with a younger asian friend, but it is the year 2016. She glared at us and reprimanded me several times because I put my legs up in the booth to help me relax after being rushed through a terribly mediocre dinner. The soup was so salty I couldn't eat it. Me thinks the truckers need to find a new restaurant as this place should be shut down like yesterday. It had been a while since I had been in because I heard that it wasn't very good since they changed hands. We decided to give it another try today. As a business owner, I truly do not like to bash other businesses, but every part of this yelp review is deserved.. I recently visited an old family favorite, a place I once remembered for it's nostalgia and family friendly atmosphere in the heart of Lancaster county. Jennie's Diner was a staple in the community for a number of years. Now "Route 30 Diner," which is the "new" Jennie's Diner, leaves a lot to be desired.. My family and I arrived around 5:30 on a Friday, which was usually peak business hours.. However, the parking lot was almost empty except for some trucks in the back. We walked inside and were not greeted by the same friendly faces that we were accustomed to, instead, an elderly woman who reeked of alcohol "greeted" in a very harsh manner. We were seated in the back of the building and were quickly given instructions before we even ordered or had MENUS, that we needed to make sure were "hurried up because the dinner rush would be there soon." I at first thought she was joking, but soon realized the joke was unfortunately on us. My sister had her 8 year old daughter with us, and she brought in a stuffed animal and some coloring books. The elderly woman, who I later learned was the owner, glared at my niece the entire time, almost watching her every move. The waitresses seemed almost scared to be doing their jobs, as if the woman was watching them too. Very strange and disturbing atmosphere... Can't really explain it, but I would not wish this uncomfortable experience on my worst enemy. The food came out quickly.. however, the time that was allotted for us to enjoy our very mediocre food, was a lot less than the time it took for it to come out of the kitchen. We felt very rushed, very uncomfortable, and overall just devastated that a place that once was so busy and family friendly, had turned into nothing but a childhood memory. My cousin was very ill from what he believed was from the "gravy" that he had on his potatoes. The food is absolutely AWFUL now.. right up there with the new owners. The old woman is in no way equipped to run an establishment like this. She will single handedly destroy this place. The food at this place is hit or miss. I had the stuffed pork loin. The loin meat was flavorful, the stuffing was bland. The side of rice pilaf was also bland. The corn chicken soup was excellent. I ordered macaroni salad but was soon told that they had just sold their last prepared serving. I then choose potato salad which turned out to not be to my liking. Now for the one rating. After we finished our meal, my brother in law walked to the front to get money out of the ATM (this is a cash only establishment). While there, an elderly lady at the hostess stand confronted him. She smartly asked him "How did you get in here". He responded, "through the front door" in a friendly, attempt at humor. That seemed to set her off. She angrily stated that he would not have come through that door if she had been there when we entered. As my brother in law got his money and proceeded to set down, the lady proceeded to start scolding our waitress about letting us in the diner. She also loudly stated that we must be illiterate since we could not read the mask required sign on the door. When my sister smiled about the rude illiterate statement, the lady proceeded to confront her with "Do you find this funny". My sister responded that she found it amazing how the woman was behaving. The woman then continued to berate the waitress. The waitress came over to our table with four masks and jokingly stated that she would pay us a dollar to wear those masks as we leave the restaurant (all of about 20' distance). We told her we would gladly wear them and made sure we tipped our waitress good. Our waitress told us to have a good day as we were leaving. I told her she was the one that needed to have a good rest of the day. Considering the behavior of the hostess and the numerous negative reviews of her on Yelp, she must be the owner. I pray that she is able to overcome whatever is making her so angry. If she doesn't she may not have a business for long. read more

Went here with two sisters and two friends. Everyone LOVED their food (burgers, bacon grilled cheese, and chicken caesar wrap) and milkshakes. Our waitress (a short older lady with curly brown hair, I didn't get her name) was really nice. The manager/hostess lady was a bit abrasive in the beginning, but seemed okay by the end. They heard it was my birthday and gave me a brownie as we were leaving, which was nice of them. The atmosphere was super cute and old-fashioned. Here's some advice to the Skiadas family- cut your losses and open another restaurant not steeped in local lore and tradition where you can start fresh. Use YOUR fantastic reputation and reopen another buffer or sit down Amish style restaurant. This is too hard an undertaking. Jennie's was more culture than food. Sooooo great!!!! I was driving down through town when we passed by this diner. Did a u-turn. Once inside I new I would love it. An original diner open since the fifties. Used to be called Jennies diner. The menu was unique and the set up is awesome. On the walls there are military photos etc. Staff is friendly and attentive and you can tell they actually care. Owners there to greet you as you arrive and leave. Food is quick but excellent. My open faced roast beef could not be better made. These places are a dying breed. I have never been so humiliated as a customer in my life and I am 45! I drive a tractor trailer for Giant of Carlisle. I was on my way back from the Port of Wilmington. I got a case of the sleepy's so I pulled into the diner. Their was only 1 other truck there. I set my alarm for 20 minutes. I got up and went inside to use the restroom. I try to always purchase something for the use of an establishments restroom. I had already eaten lunch so I was looking for something sweet. I just want to mention that I have stopped and ate meals in here before. The hostess made an example out of me in front of the 3 or 4 couples in there at the time. She was very rude. She said truckers are required to buy a meal to park. I told her I had only been there 20 minutes. She said I could go down to the truck stop and pay $14 to park. She said they are a business and they are there to make money. I said can I have the cookies (I had initially asked for)? The waitress said they were $1.25. She charged me $1.75 but I would have given her the $3.50 I had in my pocket just to leave. I told her I was sorry, I didn't know. I told her I would know for next time. I was half afraid she was going to call the police. She said she would get my truck number and make sure this doesn't happen again. I was so upset the rest of the way back. I am now at home still trying to shake this off logically knowing that how I was treated wasn't my fault and obviously their was something going on with her. Extremely disappointed with my last visit to this diner. Me and my husband have been going here for years since it was Jennie's diner. Saturday we went for brunch since we were in the area and the hostess/owner was absolutely horrible and mean. It started with me getting scolded for my 8 month old "playing" with the menu he wasn't doing anything wrong just holding the menu and opening/closing it, the owner walked by and asked if I could take that from him. Second thing that happened was my meal was suppose to come with fries I even double checked the menu because I was specifically ordering a meal with fries so my son could have a couple. When my meal came out it had chips on the side so my husband said to our waitress this was suppose to have fries, our waitress then went over to the owner and asked if I was suppose to have fries the owner then lied and said no along with yelling at our poor sweet waitress saying this isn't a new menu and making comments to belittle her. Through the course of the rest of our meal I heard the owner yell at multiple of her employees along with some racist comments about another table of a Hispanic family that left. My son also got in trouble for making baby noises and laughing which she then offered my son crackers to get him to be quiet. Unfortunately even though the food here is good, and the waitresses/waiters are nice we will not be going back due to the owner she made our whole dining experience uncomfortable and honestly just horrible with her attitude and the way she treated everyone. The fixtures are kept meticulously original (those are big, heavy, color-coordinated blinds from the 1950s on the windows), clean, and attractive. The hostess and owner is a friendly and feisty hoot, and she runs the place with a firm hand. Her staff is courteous and very capable, and the portions are large and delicious. We're happy the tourist trap down the road (which stopped serving breakfast and moved on to "supper" before noon) was overbooked, because we had the faster, better, breakfast service we wanted right here. read more
