Clean and quaint diner atmosphere. Friendly and prompt service. Can't beat a steak dinner special with baked potato and a salad for $9.95! Steak was juicy and not tough. The baked potato was cooked perfectly. It was difficult to decide what to order on the menu as many items were tempting. There was a homemade lasagna special also and the waitress mentioned it was a large portion. The unsweetened ice tea beverage was a little weak on the brew. There were several dessert options. We were told the German chocolate cake came from a local bakery. The cake and coconut filling were very good although the chocolate frosting on top that looked very good wasn't as tasty. We spent a few nights in the Amish country, and were stunned that the buffet restaurants closed at 7pm.... so we pulled into the Route 30 Diner last Friday night on a hunch and were delighted that they could serve us immediately....we were WELCOMED and beckoned in by the owner Pete and his energetic staff. There were so many good things to say, that we ended up coming back 36 hrs later for breakfast! Our server was Alex, one of the best we've ever had. This fellow was so polite, said Thank you and Yes Ma'am all the time; can tell his parents did a great job. He gave us good suggestions, listened to our requests, and clearly was bursting with pride telling us of their farm to table produce and locally grown meats. Everything he recommended was great, including my friend's Angus burger. I was totally delighted with my turkey dinner, from a local turkey farm. It was huge, lots of moist white meat, stuffing, mashed potato and gravy, delicious, and so wonderful I took leftovers home in the cooler and ate the rest on my first night home. Alex checked on us everytime he passed, attended to special needs like my big desire for lots of cranberry, and brought a basket of bread/cornbread for the table. This team hustles, works well, and gives you plenty of great food. My hat is off to Alex; he will go far! On Sunday morning, Pete's wife Patti was managing the flow, keeping everyone safely in one door, out the other, entering with masks (PA rule til end of June); kept everyone hustling. Lots of apparently motivated staff here, and hustling to keep you full and happy. Returned on Sunday morning and had yummy Eggs Benedict and hash browns, and husband enjoyed his SOS. She was rude to everyone in the place, she yells at her staff, she talks about truckers, and she talks about politics. Should have known when every diner we drove by for 60 miles had overflowing parking lots and here there were 3 cars. Don't be fooled by the sporadic good reviews. They are either from her family or herself or someone who went when she wasn't there. It isn't worth the risk for the mediocre food. This is a great, old diner - without the stickiness! (I've found old restaurants/diners tend to have sticky tables/booths.) We had a quick getaway to Dutch Wonderland and stayed within walking distance of the park. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, but I wanted something different for breakfast. I saw the Yelp reviews and decided to try it. The food and service were great. The diner is clean. The French toast was perfect and barely needed syrup. My 8 year old daughter had one of their giant pancakes, and it was delicious. There was no way she could finish it, but it was such a thrill for her to have a giant pancake. (Not one to waste food - we took the leftovers and she was very happy with it heated up the next day at home.) I will agree with other reviewers that the owner (I assume it's the owner who takes your money) is a bit haughty. But don't let that dissuade you! read more

Had actually picked a different restaurant for breakfast but when we got there it was closed. Stopped at another place and it was closed. All this worked out to our advantage because we ended up stopping here and WOW. It was absolutely fantastic. Zero complaints. Staff was friendly. Place was clean. Portions were huge. If you are in the area, you should definitely stop here. You won't regret it. I'm only in Lancaster for two days but will be eating there again. Not a huge place, but every table was full. We found this hidden gem by driving by - it didn't even show up on Yelp! Classic 50s style and a parking lot half full at 8:30 on a Sunday morning promised good things, and the Route 30 certainly delivered! The coffee is excellent, and arrives early and often. And I'm honestly not sure how the cook had time to make our fresh-to-order dishes- they hit the table in under 5 minutes. My son got the Loaded Home Fries - a platter of home fries smothered under a man-sized load of bacon, ham, sausage, and cheddar. He declared it perfectly seasoned- not salty at all. Darling Bride had the Country Scramble - three eggs scrambled with onions, green pepper, home fries and ham. Two slices of perfectly toasted whole wheat bread (you can choose from white, wheat or rye) and slice of water melon made it just right. Being in eastern Pennsylvania, I had a moral obligation to eat both scrapple and mushrooms. So I got the mushroom and Swiss omelet with rye toast and a side of scrapple. The omelet was eggcelent () and the slab of scrapple was magnificent- crisp and brown outside, hot and soft in the middle. Each dish came with a couple of small slices of watermelon, a wonderful, seasonal touch. Service was remarkable- our waiter was courteous, personable, and attentive. And he could carry, no lie, about a dozen platters at once! My son has announced that he intends to apprentice himself to these people and sleep under the counter so he never has to leave. We've tricked him into coming out to the van to get his suitcase, and we'll shove him in and haul out... This sumptuous repast came to $32.33. Bring cash - it's all they take. I will NEVER and I mean NEVER patronize this place. The owner is absurdly rude and out of line. They advertise free truck parking yet the drivers have to purchase a meal in order to park... sorry, That's not truly free truck parking. I had stopped by because a trucker friend of mine was parked there and we were going to go to my house for dinner. Mind you, she already made a purchase there and according to my friend there are NO signs saying the truckers must stay with their truck the entire time they are parked. I also had planned to order a desert for my kids when we returned. Because everything is shut down for Covid-19 and this place was only doing curbside the owner walks up and asked if I'd like to place an order. When I try explaining to her why I was there and that a meal had already been purchased she immediately got nasty and said truckers have to stay with their truck or they can "go down the road and pay $24 to park". Okay, I get that you want truckers to stay with their truck but we didn't know that and there was absolutely no reason to immediately get rude. I told her I would call my friend and let her know but the owner continued to talk and when she finally left and I was trying to call my friend to let her know what was going on she kept staring at me with a nasty face. She walks back up to my truck and says "You do know all restaurants are take out only in PA anyway." I told her I knew that and we were going back to my house for dinner to which she replies (again with a nasty attitude) "Well then tell her to take her truck with her." I decided to leave without my friend and as I was leaving I decided to let her know she was very rude and there was no need to be because we just didn't know. She starts slinging back again how the truck can't be left and if it is she's going to have it towed. That set me off. I spouted off my insults and left. In no world should the OWNER of a business be that rude. Especially a business that claims to be truck friendly, now more than ever you should be accommodating the men and women making sure you have any food to serve at all, let them see friends and family without causing a scene. The prices are beyond reasonable and they could definitely charge more for how fantastic the food is. The wait time is 5-10 minutes which is real quick! The staff is OKAY, nothing to get hyped up about. But, the food makes this little small and unfriendly diner a 5-star rating! From someone who's eaten at over thousands of different restaurants in my 21 years of living, this place is at the top 3 diners in my life. The hot open roast beef was my favorite. So delicious, the gravy is so real and fresh, it's black, not brown. Real gravy there and it melts in your mouth. You'll leave this place full for the day and you'll only spend $10. Great food!!!!!! Got some of the best home fries and giant pancake of my life but got treated like a 1935 Negro in the wrong part of town. Witnessed our waitress go to the other side of the diner and got ignored by two more waitresses. Also saw them turn away a group bigger than 5 people when the bar was wide open- not the best service come for the food only or you will be disappointed. read more

We decided to try the Route 30 diner since all of the pictures of their food on their Facebook page looked great. We have gone to the diner previously when it was Jenny's, but this was our first time here since it was the Route 30 diner. We were greeted by a friendly woman who seated us. Might have been the owner, but not sure. The table was sticky and dirty at the end of the table by the window where the salt and pepper was. That should have been out first sign of our ultimate deciding factor of not to return. But, chose to overlook it and scooted down away from it in our tiny booth. My husband and I both had soup before our meal. I had the chicken corn and he had the vegetable beef. Both were very good. After about 3 to 4 minutes after the waitress gave us our soup, both of our meals arrived. The first thing the waitress said as she arrived to the table was, "I apologize for bringing this out right after I gave you your soup. It was ready faster than I thought it would be." By the time we finished our soup, our meal was cooled off. I had the Turkey entree with mashed potatoes and stuffing, and my husband had the stuffed chicken breast and mashed potatoes. The stuffing on both was tasteless and bland, and the chicken and turkey was just ok. The mashed potatoes were average. Each came with a dinner roll that was stale and dry like it had been sitting out uncovered. The thing that definitely decided for us to never return, was that our waitress blew her nose with a napkin behind the counter. Gross and TOTALLY unsanitary! Been coming to Route 30 diner on and off for a number of years. Last nights visit was really excellent. We were four people for dinner and everyone was very pleased. Three had burger platters with fries and all were very happy with their meals. Burgers were cooked perfectly and fries were crispy and not greasy. I had the broiled liver with onions and mashed potatoes. Liver was cooked to perfection and potatoes were creamy and very tasty. I also enjoyed the cream of potatoe soup. Never been here before. We are from Allentown area. Looks cute outside. Really neat retro/ authentic diner from the 50's. Super clean! Even the chrome strip on the ceiling a dust free. The old witch wasn't there when I stopped in yesterday. She really had to go, NO people skills at all. Had a bacon cheese burger, 1/2 lb. Cooked perfectly, medium. Was huge,.... staff was too busy talking to each other, my order waited in the pick-up window for a good 10 minutes while a young girl just stood there doing nothing......... but they were all kids, hardly 20-somethings so you know what that's like. Older gentleman seemed to be acting as "Captain of the Ship", greeting me and others and seating people, but not really together. Overall, they seem to care and are trying, just don't have any "polish" yet. Prices a bit high, but you're right there in "Tourist Central". I just traveled to Lancaster this past weekend. This is an annual event for our group of 4. We have been stopping at this diner for many years. However we decided to leave the diner off our list this time due to the horrible behavior of the owner to guests and staff. It has bothered us for years but the food was exceptional so we tolerated it. Well we found out prior to our trip that the diner is under new ownership so that was a game changer. We actually ate there twice this weekend (lunch & breakfast). The whole atmosphere was changed. Everyone was so kind & you could see such a difference in the staff. Food was beyond exceptional (as always). Please stop at the ROUTE 30 diner if you are visiting or passing through Lancaster.
