This place was voted best diner in Western Pennsylvania by Pittsburgh Today Live, so when we were in the neighborhood we decided to try it out. Although they have the look, the food while not horrible, was not great, everything seemed to be frozen and heated before serving, there was only one server and she was overwhelmed trying to take care of all the patrons. Overall the diner was neat and clean and the waitress was very friendly, but I don't see myself going back.

If you're in the area, this is a safe bet for breakfast or a quick lunch. There isn't much else in Brownsville for dining options, and this and the chuck wagon are some of the only breakfast joints on 40 from Washington to Uniontown. The old school classic diner vibe is spot on! Cool, vintage ambiance. Food is your average diner food. Breakfast is better than lunch. I find the lunch options a bit bland, including the wraps and the steak sandwich.

Bless my country fried steak heart. Route 40 Classic Diner is Grandma approved. We felt all kinds of nostalgic, the kind that plucks your heart strings. This delightful diner is an easy quick stop in Grindstone PA, the food is solid old school line kitchen and has an Americana ambiance that'll sit you right back at Grandma's table. I have to go back for a milkshake, with fries of course! Definitely worth a stop if you're passing on your travels.

I enjoyed this little diner I wasnt sure about it at first but I've always wanted to stop by and try it out. We came on a sunday morning and it was packed but even so we serviced super quickly and our food came out fast as well and it was a nice/friendly atmosphere

Yuck! Don't even waste your time stopping here. The shiny chrome exterior and a neat bench made from a Ford tailgate might draw you in. Even the inside decor might make you think it's a real diner with real diner food. Nothing could be further from the truth. It was awful, bordering inedible. How do you screw up a turkey club? They did. It looks like they're trying to cut corners and bought a processed turkey roll. Look how thick the slices are on the sandwich. The texture of this processed turkey was awful. They probably use the same stuff on their turkey dinner. The lettuce in both the salad and sandwich was wilting and old. Service was subpar with the waitresses eating their food at the counter. When they ask if you want a refill, check my drink. Less than half full. Weirdest of all, they accept credit cards, but you must leave a tip in cash. I suspect the waitresses aren't getting many. What a dumb idea. Seriously though, don't stop here. The food and service are awful.

Cute diner with nice waitstaff and fairly good food. A good place to go for a casual breakfast, but nothing fantastically special.

Despite it being in Pennsylvania, it throws off a distinct hillbilly atmosphere. The usual signs about Jesus, Christmas and, of course, patriotism were in abundance. My party ordered a variety of dishes and I opted for the roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy. Sorry to say, the food was just adequate. The beef was overdone and the gravy had the sheen of the bottled gravies at the grocery store. The mashed potatoes were the star of the show, however, as they were very good. The hamburger and pancakes ordered by others get similar reviews. It was a hamburger and tasted like one. The pancakes, being hard to screw up, were just pancakes. This is a cash-only place, so come prepared to be vilified for wanting to pay with plastic. The prices were lower than the norm but that did little to make me feel better upon leaving. Despite the dearth of customers when we were there, the service was also lacking. I had to seek out help to get a refill on my iced tea and we waited a while to pay...with cash. I can't really give this place any additional stars. Stop here if you absolutely can't wait to eat.

The staff couldn't be friendlier; they make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time walking in. Even if you're just stopping by for a quick coffee, it's worth it. And the pepperoni rolls? A must-grab to go. Seriously, don't leave without one (or two or a dozen ;) ). This place just has that warm, small-town charm that keeps you coming back.

MY FAVORITE BREAKFAST IN PITTSBURGH/THE STATE/AND 2ND OF ALL TIME…read more Everything here was fucking perfect and it was just all staple diner food in the best version possible. Absolutely nothing crazy (minus the French toast) that is just NAILED. And THE PRICES are so awesome The Hot Mess. Massive, loaded and delicious. That's not an omelette either.. that's their scrambled eggs loaded with potatoes and smothered it their insane sausage gravy. The biscuits with it. Right out the oven fresh, so soft, not dry in the slightest and honestly didn't even need anything on it. The corned beef hash was probably the best I've had. I never had it was such a great crisp/crunch to it. That is my new standard for corned beef hash The pancakes. The best in Pittsburgh and my top 3-5 of all time. I hate the hotcake style which you see in Pittsburgh MINUS the crisp with it. But I don't want that throughout the entire thing, I still want my fluff. This delivered that PERFECTLY. Great crisp on just the edges and the fluff in the middle. Absolutely perfect THE BOSTON CREME FRENCH TOAST. My second favorite breakfast item I've gotten in Pittsburgh. You will rarely see me get French Toast unless it's recommended a decent bit or just looks nuts. THIS is my favorite French toast I've had and I hate Boston Creme 90% of the time. It always gets too overfilled, and too sweet of a custard. NOT HERE. The chocolate topping was perfect, not just a basic syrup people buy at the store that is so overpowering. Can 1000% tell homemade. The custard had the perfect amount of sweet ratio for amount they give Warning it's small inside with minimal seating and you will have to wait. I drove 50 for it and waited 35 for a table. I would drive 2 hours and wait another 2. I will be returning numerous times ESPECIALLY when they have the Bear Claw Pancake Special
