Not to pick on other providers, but had a problem with another place. Maybe the other place's service jostled my valve gasket after an inspection, but oil leaking everywhere. Came to Route 64 on 7:30am after lining up an appt. Got done in 3 hrs after he had to lift engine. Saw my neighbor come in as well. Cars were everywhere, so assume they're good. My trusty 2005 Ford Ranger XLT needed new front wheel bearings, upper and lower control arm bushings, and shocks all around. Being 16 years old with over 100k miles in Chicagoland with our salty winters I can only imagine how much effort it took to remove the existing parts and prepare for installation of the new. Regardless, Dan got me a very attractive quote within a day and Sergio completed the work the following day. I could not be more pleased with the service all around and having done the same work myself on a number of my earlier vehicles I know the price was as fair as any I've experienced. The only reason I don't rate this a 5-start establishment is I need to see how well all the work and parts hold up over time. I have to say, I'm a little hesitant to post this review as once the word gets out it may well get tough to find an opening in the schedule. Great job guys! Most appreciated. read more

When I hear people use the term "above and beyond" in a review, I typically don't think much of it. I mean, your server at the restaurant went above and beyond by giving you an extra bread basket for your table? That's generous, but not really life changing. Route 64, however, truly went out of their way for me these past two weeks. Without going into an Oprah-worthy sob story, let me just say a few quick words about the folks at Route 64. Having stubborn issues with Lemon Drop (yes, I've named my car) left me sitting in their waiting room reading old Sport Illustrated magazines. Time and time again, we thought my car was fixed, only to see a new problem arise. I felt like at any point I would be approached and be told that L.D. wasn't going to make it and I would have to pull the plug on him. But, somehow he came through, not without the help of one of their front desk employees, Dan. Dan became my go-to car guy and for about 45 seconds, my personal shrink. He basically went completely (seriously) out of his way to help me with an issue and was understanding of my financial situation. I have NEVER had to drop off my car (though I'm sure some vehicles might require more work time...still) they are SPEEDY QUICK. " No Wait". No to mention, they always have openings. Whenever I call, Dan always get my car in ASAP. Prices? I like to say you get family pricing. ___HONEST (I've dated a mechanic): I know about the booking/log hours. Yes ALMOST all shops, charge us, the customers a LOT more, Because instead of shops charging the "real time" the mechanic actually spent on the car, most places they charge by estimated time, which is unfair amount higher than the RTW (real time work). ROUTE 64 gives you the MOST accurate and fair pricing. How can a business keep their customers loyalty if they are being screwed over? They can't. That's why I am loyal to Route 64 Auto Repair. Accuracy and oversell? Not here! RELIABLE; What ever you came in for will be taken care of. I love the HONESTY and INTEGRITY. I love that they listen and use their knowledge and insight with whatever my car needs. Been coming here a while, and I finally got scammed today. Came in for a basic service synthetic oil change, and my total came out to be $123 initially. Dude already up-charged me for the basic service synthetic oil change because he tried charging me for a full service synthetic. He tried to say the up-charge was because of taxes, but I insisted otherwise. So this brought my total down to $117. The initial basic service synthetic oil change is $55, but I got charged an extra $53 because my oil filter cap got cracked as they were taking it off. This happened because they use impact power tools to tighten and remove the cap even though it's only supposed to be hand tightened. They cracked it by doing something they weren't supposed to, so why did I even have to get charged for this? What also had me laughing was the fact that I asked him to show me the unit part number that he used, and I found it online for JUST $20!! He claimed he got it for $40 yet he charged me $53 for it still. This is a huge up-charge and he tried justifying it by saying that this is a business and he needs to pay his workers and fees somehow. This is a horrible excuse as he already charges labor for the oil change, and not to mention they drag so long just to do this 10 minute procedure. I tried doing it myself, but I couldn't because they overtightened the life out of it with their impact power tools, so I had no choice but to go back. I am a broke college student with an old cheap car, I barely have enough to get by so I guess I'll just have to skip dinner this week in order to pay my rent. Great. read more

I came into this auto shop with an oil pressure issue. I made the very first mistake of letting the gentleman know I was a novice when it came to car knowledge, but he did not use this as a quick sale opportunity. The gentleman proceeded to rattle off potential causes for my issue. Within just a few minutes, his team discovered several oil leaks. He filled up my oil to an operational level at a reduced cost. They instructed me to speak back with the dealership who sold me the car. The advice and help these guys give is priceless, they are a business, but they aren't looking to make a cheap buck. They offered 2 sell me 1, but I wanted to use a warranty that I have so they were ok with that. They then offered 2 put on my spare so that I could safely drive! Long story short: they aligned my truck while it had a bad ball joint, sent me on my way with a dangerous vehicle, then they denied they had done anything wrong. Full version: My truck had been pulling to the left, so I took it to Route 64, which I had used and been happy with a couple times in the past. When they gave me the truck back, and charged me $90, it was still pulling to the left just as badly. I called them the next day, because I had a road trip coming up that weekend, but they could not get me in before the trip. I fought the pull the whole trip, which was very annoying. After the trip, I scheduled an appointment for them to fix the alignment under warranty. This time they got it to track straight, so I was initially happy. A few days later, the night before I was supposed to leave for another trip, I started hearing and feeling a pop under full steering lock. I brought it to a friend of mine who is an ASE certified tech and an auto shop teacher to inspect it. He found a very loose upper left ball joint. It was so loose that he said, "I can't believe we just took this truck to Indiana." He refused to let me drive the truck, and lent me his extra car to use on my trip. After that second trip, I brought the truck to a different shop to get the ball joint fixed. When I told him that another shop had aligned it with that bad ball joint he said, "That's crazy that they missed that, it was plainly obvious to see." I went back to Rt. 64 to give them a chance to make it right, to at least refund me the money I'd wasted getting my truck aligned with bad parts, but they insist it was somehow tight three days before it was very loose. This shop missed a very bad safety defect. They sent me on a trip with a defective vehicle, that if it had come apart at highway speeds would have been catastrophic. I will never go back to this shop again. Their attention to detail and care for the customer is sorely lacking, to say the least. read more

I was referred to 64 Auto Repair by my mechanic who does not do exhaust work. After shopping around, I decided to give this place a try considering it looked pretty legit and I got a 20% discount for the referral. I walked in at 1:15 and they said they could take my car in right away and I'll be out of there by 2:30. Welp, the promise was kept! They did a wonderful job, and my car doesn't sound like a piece of junk anymore thank goodness. It was a fair price for the job too ($140). I took my c3 corvette there to have headers installed and they did the job but on the way home my car started to smoke and I stopped raised the hood and found out the starter wire was resting on the header and fried so had It towed back to fix the issue and they fixed it but i looked in the engine bay and the fan belt connected to the alternator was crooked it was on the wrong pulley.I am very upset at the incompetence and they never said sorry for my inconvenience.I wont be back..I fixed the fan belt myself!!! read more

My muffler was hanging by its teeth and I sounded like I was auditioning for Fast and Furious: Villa Park Drift. I had gone to Sooper Lube down the street and they told me they couldn't fix my car. After seeing Route 64 driving down North Ave. one day, I decided to give them a shot. Called around 2pm to ask if they could look at it. They said they could if I came right away. I was there within 10 minutes, left my car there. They called back with an estimate and said they could get it done same day, even though they close at 4. They stayed open a little after 4 for me to come and get my car. I thought the price I paid was very fair. They did not try to cheat me at all and even fixed something else on my car while under there, which is always appreciated. Everything about the transaction was great and I received great customer service. My 14 year old car and I will be back, I'm sure. read more

I can't say good enough things about my experience here. I had some work done over 6 months ago here on a recommendation from a friend, and I was waiting to see if the quality of workmanship stood up before I made my review. I needed to get some exhaust system work done, and Route 64 charged me about a third of the price that a "name brand" auto repair place quoted me. I was so happy when I got the quote from Route 64, and the worker I talked to actually seemed a little disgusted and upset that another place would try to charge me so much. I went in to this shop after 2 other chains told me I needed almost an entire new exhaust system to the tune of $600, they took me right away, looked & said I only needed a connection welded, did it for $60 in 10 minutes. This place is Garbage, went in for a repair of $365 dollars came out with $1600 dollar worth of repairs, needed, also body repair was needed. Do to a repair done incorrectly. Rt. 64 was suppose to replace the bushings on both sides. Instead after repair the ball joint was not tighten properly, causing the ball joint to fall out. Rt. 64 and the owner Charlie and his garbage ass manager does not stand behind none of there work. This business gets zero stars. I will continue to put the word out of not doing business with these clowns. I recommend you take your vehicle to Hi-Tec auto repair in Addison Illinois which is not far from these bozos.This is Merlin's auto repair but is the same fucked up repair shop but with a new name rt64.
