This was a super pleasant surprise! We came off the road, riding Route 66 from Chicago to LA. Walked into a Waffle House a little ways away but still weren't seated after 5 minutes. I remembered seeing this diner right off the highway so we headed back there. Wow, what a great place! Very friendly employees, tasty, reasonably-priced food and a clean, fun environment. The coffee was good and the breakfast portions large. I truly enjoyed this place and would absolutely recommend it. I stopped by here on a road trip with my mom, nieces, and 9 month old son. Food was good and everyone liked what they had. My mom said her pork tenderloin was one of the best she had and I really enjoyed my reuben. The waitstaff were the best. They were so kind and helpful. I also picked up some bottles of root beer and blue raspberry soda to take on the road! Highly recommend! I hope to stop here again when I am in the area. read more

This is exactly what you would expect from the name. The place is clean and staff is friendly. The menu is typical grill style, with just enough grease to make it yummy. Another old-timey gimmick restaurant, this one doesn't even try. If you like quasi-50's nostalgia but don't like good food then this is the joint for you. Not many drink choices, and what they have is warm. Also I'm almost positive they serve days-old corn on the cob, it comes withered and dry- mine was inedible. This place is horrible. Came because of some of the reviews. My family was extremely disappointed. We just moved here to the area and wanted to find some good eats. This is not the place. We ordered the fish and chips, turkey club with chicken noodle soup, kids chicken nuggets, kids hot dog, kids burger. None of it was eaten. It was all u salted, bland, greasy and terrible. I will give this place a 2nd try but I will say it is a solid 3 star experience. Key points for this diner...When I asked of the homemade pies and cakes were made today the waitress said they actually buy them. I got the chicken and dumplings for a soup and it appears to be out of a can and there was a dried dumpling on the edge of the pan. The waitress told me that if it wasnt warm enough to let her know which makes me think it was just microwaved. The coffee was fresh so that's a positive. I ordered the blue moon burger which was ok. It said there was a cream cheese and Monterey Jack cheese melt which sounded bomb.. there was literally cold sliced cream cheese on the burger. Which still tasted ok but it wasnt what I was expecting. My husband ordered the meat lovers breakfast skillet and again it was just ok. Very bland but the potatoes were cooked extremely well. All this aside there are other things on the menu I would try. The waitress was friendly so all in all I give it 3 stars...eh. read more

Why can't I leave zero stars? Ok so I haven't seen my sister in 4 years and we all meet up here today in this tiny little town. We get to this diner and there was 1 cook and 1 server. There was only a very few tables being used at the time but I can understand an 11 top can be overwhelming to some. Well we ordered our drinks. After about 30 minutes we all finally had them and got to order our food. I got a french dip and I specifically asked for no Swiss cheese as I am allergic. It came out with Swiss cheese of course. Not one person (excluding the 2 year old and my senior citizen mother) got their correct order. I asked for a new french dip and received my bill and never got my food but she tried charging for it. So I'm going to bed on onion rings and coke slaw tonight. Yay me... not!! Do not recommend this place. read more

We left the Route 66 Diner after sitting for 32 minutes and still no food. Two other tables that were seated at the same time had their food in a reasonable amount of time. It took an even 20 minutes for a cup of decaf coffee. 30 minutes after ordering our food we asked how much longer it would be. The waitress told us there was two ahead of us yet. When ordering they did not have the potatoes to make the home style that was offered on the menu. Some excuse that the previous cook did not boil them. They open at 7:00 AM this was 3 hours later. The restaurant was not the cleanest I've every seen and let me add that they were not crowded, there was plenty of empty booths. We told the waitress we would take our beverages in to go cups and pay for them but this was unacceptable and we were leaving. The manager actually argued with me telling me I was too impatient. I told him he'd be better off to apologize and treat customers with respect. He sternly said, "sorry, bye" what a rude ignorant man. Cracker Barrel was right next door, guess where we ate? read more

The Route 66 Diner is a throw back to the past. It is a cute little diner that gives tribute to Route 66. The burgers served here are thick & juicy & The French fries were perfectly crispy. I had a chocolate malt with my meal & it was delicious. My family also ordered a Brownie Sundae to share. It was also very good. Great restaurant is you enjoy menus that stick to your table. This is just your classic greasy, sticky, not so clean breakfast joint. Food is not the best, coffee tastes burnt and old both times I've been here. Honestly if you're looking for a good breakfast meal I recommend the McDonald's in town because it is much better than any "sit down" breakfast spot in town. read more

When I go into a diner I expect great "diner" food, typical retro decor, and fair prices...this place has the retro feel down pat but that's about it. IMO, I hold them to a higher standard because they are an independently owned restaurant competeing with the other fast food chains, etc. Pros: -They give a 10% milittary discount. -Waitstaff is polite. Cons: -Overpriced for the quality of the food. I don't like paying $6 for microwaved chili fries. -This place is never packed, however the waitress and cook are still slow. I completely understand food is made to order, but there's a total of 6 plates to make. -The tile is nasty in the bathroom and needs to be scrubbed. Back of the bathroom door is filthy and needs to be wiped down. Overall, I would pass this place up and eat somewhere familiar instead. If you risk this place you'll be mad at the money you spent on mediocre food. read more

A retro diner where we ate a late lunch on a weekday in 4/07. The pros: good food & reasonable prices, and a very attractive interior with a beautiful pressed-tin ceiling. The cons: although there were hardly any smokers in the smoking section, smoking is allowed at the counter and there's nothing separating it from the non-smoking section. We stopped in on our way through and were very pleased! It is classic diner food with hand cut fries and breakfast served all day! The pancakes were great as well as the meat skillet! We will be back! The service was great too and our server offered our kids an ice cream to go and man was there a lot in each dish. Really this should be 2 1/2 stars. It's not a bad restaurant but I'll explain the low rating. I liked the nostalgic atmosphere and the jukebox. We went for dinner and was pleasantly surprised they serve breakfast around the clock so I had the Belgian waffle, scrambled eggs and bacon. Didn't take too long before our meals came out. The waffle was a lovely golden brown and tasted wonderful. Ate the bacon and then started in on the scrambled "eggs". Nope....these were powdered eggs....and I should know, I spent my entire childhood camping and my dad would always bring those along in case the real eggs got crushed during the trip. I know it's not the fault of the line cook but the owner/buyer should seriously reconsider this and buy eggs from the plethora of farms in the local area.... I for one would even pay slightly more for cage free, range fed chicken eggs but that nasty powdered stuff??...nope, not cuttin' in! Real is better for sure. I can guarantee the review would have been 4 stars had quality been top priority over profit...because that's the impression I was left with. read more

This place is very understaffed, food is waiting on the counter and flies are all over the place. Some chefs have gloves others don't and touch food with bare hands! Tables are being left a mess and no one cleans it for a good 10mins till new people show up. I ordered cheese sticks as an appetizer, my food got here before the appetizer and I can see the appetizer just sitting on the counter still after I finished my food. We tried to get the attention of one of the waiters and just kept on walking and ignored us. This was our first visit and I'm not sure if we will return. There were some major bright spots and some major misses. The service was very good. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. I ordered the meatloaf dinner, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. The meatloaf was excellent but it was smothered in a weird brown gravy that was awful. It reminded me of something you would get in a hospital. I had to scrape it off to enjoy the meatloaf. The mashed potatoes were instant and also covered in the same gravy. The potatoes had big chunks of rubbery stuff in it which the waitress said was from sitting in the pan for too long. They said they were heating fresh potatoes but they came out cold and just did not taste good. I find it sad so much effort was placed into such a good meatloaf but ruined the experience with instant mashed potatoes and a bad gravy. My husband ordered chicken tenders, fries, corn, and a biscuit. Half of the tenders were dried out from overcooking. After years of chow hall food, he was planning on eating them anyway, but the waitress noticed and brought him new tenders. The fries were hand cut and tasty, the biscuit was excellent. We split a slice of chocolate cake for dessert. It had a wonderful flavor but had been stored in the cooler, already cut, so it was a dried out, crumbly mess. Disappointing. read more

I had a late breakfast. 2 eggs scrambled well with toast and country potatoes. The coffee had an unusual fruity taste to it. The eggs tasted like powdered eggs and, the had a weird mushy feel to them. They were not well done as I had requested. The country potatoes were unseasoned. They tasted like French fries cut into cubes. They have Heinz ketchup bottles on the counter, but the ketchup did not taste like Heinz. The place was clean though. Maybe breakfast is not their thing. $8.64 for 2 eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee. Very expensive for the small portion of eggs I received. read more

She pointed at a nasty table across the room and told us to sit, I had to wipe my own table with a napkin The server basically threw the menus at us and took our order from across the room making us physically yell our order across the restaurant! The food was good but the service was amazing!! I came in tonight for a mushroom burger and some pickle chips. I had my food very quickly. The waitress was extreamly nice and my order was spot on. The atmosphere was great. The place seemed really busy for a tuesday night. There was also a var club meeting here tonight. I was there for an hour. I was amazed how polite and efficient the waitress was. I travel alot and eat out way to much due to my travels. I like to people watch and tonight I was expecting a nightmare. She was the only waitress serving everyone. No runners or table busters. One cook in the back and this young lady. Her positive attitude and hustle was inspiring. She greeted everyone with a smile everytime. I'm can tell you that this little diner, that has been here for years, has earned my bussiness for years to come. She handled every order and customers request with out fail. To the owner, I dont know what your paying this young lady (Laney), but a raise is definatly in order. This place is a HUGE mess. DIRTY as can be. The servers have the worse attitude, I stoped for breakfast and took forever to get my order. The food almost got to me before my coffee and the food took a while just to have an idea. There cigarettes open candy bags and left overs food that the servers eat right next to the bread toaster. The person seated next to me got a hair in his food. I was fooled by the stars on yelp. Not sure what ppl was rating bc my experience was disgusting. read more
