Our insurance policy covers rentals so we have no need to do that. I didn't have our insurance policy number with me when I got to their office however, so I had to call my agent. Don't make that mistake. I was thankful it was during office hours! My husband and I laughed later about the car rental agent who tried to talk me into a bigger vehicle. She didn't think the Nissan we rented was big enough for 2. It was actually big enough for 5. We were allowed to extend our rentals longer, with no problem. After we extended it, our relatives were visiting offered us the use of their car so Routes gave us a full refund for the days we didn't use when we returned it early. Do not Rent a car from Routes Car Rental at DENVER INTERNATIONAL! When I received the contract at the rental desk, it said 1/2 tank of gas and 14910 miles. The person at the desk said to bring it back at 1/2 tank. Ok, no problem. When I got to the vehicle, the gas gauge read below a quarter of a tank. The odometer read 15057. I took a photo of the dash noting the gauge and mileage. I went to the check out gate, the attendant took photos as well of the dash and noted,"Wow, only 69 miles worth of gas in the tank" (as also indicated in the dash) "There's a gas station just down the road." She said no worries, we'll note the discrepancy for when you return the vehicle. I finished my trip, returned the car with just a bit less than 1/2 of a tank and left. About an hour later I got my invoice via email and they charged me a fuel charge because I brought it back with less gas than I started with. I replied to the email with the pictures I took of the dash and the inspection sheet I filled out indicating that the tank was near empty. I also told them that their gate attendant took pictures and noted the discrepancy for my rental file. They refuse to refund me for the gas they charged me for. Scammers!!! Overview: already damaged window got worse and they charged me for $650 for it and an additional $125 over sketchy practices. It started before I even got the keys. I asked the employee for no (SLI) liability insurance on it anyways and when I had already paid he told me I would need to email corporate immediately to have it removed. I did and they still refused to refund it. $67.96 Secondly, the employee asked where I was going to(CO Springs) and told me I needed the toll pass to get there and there was no alternate free route. The main route doesn't use a toll and we didn't use the pass once. $55.96 Finally, the window was already damaged with several deep chips which I thought they fully documented when I saw them take pictures of the windshield the night I arrived. The pictures didn't capture all the chips and one lower to the bottom data etchings was especially obscured, this was through normal highway driving grew worse into a crack. Company charged me $650.49 cents to replace the entire windshield. Refused to acknowledge that an already compromised windshield is going to worsen when left untreated. 1 Star - Absolutely Terrible Experience with Routes Car Rental This was by far the worst car rental experience I have ever had. If I could give Routes a negative 10, I would. My flight was delayed due to circumstances completely outside of my control. I immediately made multiple attempts to contact Routes by phone and email to notify them of the delay, but no one answered my calls or responded to my emails. When I arrived, I was told that my original reservation was no longer available and that the rental price had increased to approximately twice the amount I originally booked. I was also told that my reserved vehicle was no longer available, despite there being numerous vehicles sitting in their parking lot. Instead of working with me regarding an unavoidable flight delay that I had repeatedly tried to communicate, Routes essentially penalized me by doubling the rental price. To make matters worse, the vehicle I received was extremely dirty and had clearly not been properly cleaned before pickup. The lack of communication, customer service, flexibility, and professionalism was completely unacceptable. Customers should be aware that, based on my experience, a flight delay can result in your reservation being cancelled or your rental price being substantially increased--even when you make multiple attempts to notify the company. Everyone in line was upset. 2. The employees acted like I was annoying them when I had a question. The key to this place are as follows: - don't arrive late because when the desk closes...It's a wrap. You'll be without a car until the next day. Plus you'll lose your reservations and considered a no show meaning you'll have to pay a lot more to reserve one the next day. - you booked a cheap car. Expect a car without all the bells and whistles. - be nice to the people. They knocked off 10 percent because everyone he met was terrible and we were delightful. Even if you don't get a discount, you'll make their day. - expect the price you agreed on online not to be the price you pay. You'll have to pay for tourism tax. For state taxes. For add on etc. we reserved our car for 89 bucks and ended up paying 200 for all the little extras. But it still ended up being cheaper than what we would have gotten at the airport or turo. - to get to the place, you'll exit the airport and head to the pickup spot that is not marked very well. It's labeled something like "all other off airport car services." We were in and out of the car rental place in about 20 minutes when we picked up and when we dropped off, we literally pulled up, the inspector gave us the thumbs up (didn't inspect it while we were there) and we jumped on the shuttle bus back to the airport. The rental place is a scam. They have tons of hidden fees added without consent. I rented online and the price was great. We got there and while sitting in our first rental, me and my children, their car washer backed up and hit the rental causing damage and acted like no problem. I went inside to advise that was a problem. They laughed but moved us to a new rental. Jeep was half full on gas and they did not mark that. We declined insurance as we have full coverage with our own insurance to cover. The bill came and over 1K in additional charges not approved. They charged us for insurance which we declined. Initially, we accidentally canceled our booking, but Idil, our contact, was incredibly helpful and managed to get us sorted out. She was efficient and even added our AAA discount to the price we'd originally agreed upon. The check-in process was smooth and efficient. Our only suggestion would be to video the condition of the car before leaving the lot. This would be a good precaution to document any pre-existing damage. We also had to use their insurance, which felt a little unusual, but we found that the price we got from Routes, including the added AAA discount, was actually comparable (and potentially better) than other rental companies. The Jeep Wrangler we rented was clean and in good condition. However, the car inspection was a bit rushed, with us only given a quick, superficial look-around. Usually, we get a more thorough check of the vehicle's condition, but we didn't receive that here. Im torn about this place. Never heard of it before in all my years of travel. I was able to get a Jeep for 170 bucks for 4 days. Turns out it was only a 2 door. From the moment we landed, it was a disaster. First, we waited over an hour just for the airport shuttle to arrive. Once we finally got to the rental location, we were hit with what felt like an insurance scam. They refused to accept my proof of coverage, even though I had a valid insurance transfer. They required documentation specifically stating that my policy covers rental vehicles. Heads up to all future renters: Make sure your insurance declaration page clearly shows coverage for rental vehicles, or get an email directly from your agent (with their name and agent ID number) verifying this. Otherwise, they'll force you to purchase their insurance--ranging from $200 to $600 extra. We spent another 1-2 hours trying to contact our insurance agent to avoid their outrageous fees. The car we received was filthy and smelled horrible--like something had died in it. On top of that, the fuel tank was completely empty, yet they tried to charge us for a full tank. When I went back inside to correct it, I was met with attitude and told I should have had someone inspect the fuel level with me before driving off. Their shuttle service is tiny, cramped, and slow. We had a very disappointing experience with this car rental company. We were originally quoted $143.09 for the rental, however when arriving we were charged $625.22 for five days. We were also charged a daily toll rate, although there were no tolls we crossed. We were also told it would be cheaper for them to refuel the car than to fill it up ourselves. We spent $20 filling the tank before returning it, and were charged $37.80 for fuel. The vehicle we were given had a broken trunk latch that appeared to be temporarily held together with a piece of metal. The trunk would unexpectedly open while driving, which created serious safety concerns. Overall, the pricing transparency and condition of the vehicle did not match what was promised at pickup. I would strongly recommend that future customers carefully review all charges in detail and inspect the vehicle thoroughly before driving off. Rent thought Sixt! I have rented cars for over 50 years throughout the U.S. and internationally, and this was by far the worst rental experience I've ever had. I reserved a midsize SUV expecting to pay about $411. Instead, I was charged $890.24. At pickup, I told the agent I already had full auto insurance. He mentioned additional collision coverage for "$50," which I reasonably understood to mean for the entire rental. I later discovered I had been charged $293.93. He also told me that for $13 I could use the toll roads. Based on that explanation, I used the HOV toll lanes a few times. After returning home, I found I had been charged $97.93 for the Toll Tag program. Had I known the true cost, I would never have used those lanes. When I contacted customer service, they ignored my explanation that these optional products had been presented to me in a misleading way. They simply said I had signed electronically and refused to address the actual issue. After my follow-up email, they stopped responding altogether. I'm not complaining about taxes or mandatory fees. My complaint is that the optional products were presented in a way that, in my experience, did not clearly disclose their true cost before I was asked to sign electronically. My advice: Be extremely cautious if you rent from Routes. Don't rely on verbal explanations. Read every document carefully, ask whether every optional charge is per day or for the entire rental, and verify the actual cost of any toll program before agreeing to it. Once at Routes, I was charged $187 for "extras" that I was told I couldn't avoid. The employee laughed in my face when I questioned these charges. My children and I were videoed without our consent. Upon leaving the property, we were rudely stopped by a woman who was flat out nasty to us. When we asked questions about why we were stopped she told us that we should have asked all our questions in the checkout process. We would have switched companies but would have been charged the full amount, AND if you know about Denver airport, the rental cars are about 20 minutes away. Just like everyone else said this place is a scam. They refused to see my proof of insurance, but insurance is required to rent, so I was charged $200 for their insurance, the premium one. I had tons of emails back and forth but they refused to escalate it to a supervisor and just kept sending me the same copy and pasted message. read more

Picked up a Jeep Rubicon at the Denver airport for an epic road trip through the mountains to Grand Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. We noticed the fuel was not full, so had we not paid attention we would've eaten that. Also, while the initial rate was lower ($456.64) make sure you read all the details of the contract (we realized this after booking the rental). We also booked with Thrifty, but when we realized the extra charges my wife went to cancel the Routes reservation and accidentally cancelled Thrifty instead, too late to book a decent rate. With Routes, going out of state cost an extra $29.95 per day that you are out of state, and mileage per day (so for us was $259.51; fortunately we caught that, as if we had just gone out of state it is $75/day) and was limited to 200 miles per day outside of Colorado (which cost an extra $356.20 for the overage on miles). Total cost was $1072.35, and 14 days after turning rhe car in we still have no itemized invoice as to what the charges are for, even after we called for that over a week ago. They tried very hard to get me to review and rate them high before leaving the parking lot, which made me suspect. The lady that helped us when we picked the vehicle up was very nice, honest, and helpful. The same rental with Thrifty would have been $850 all in and would have saved about $325. I doubt I will use Routes again. read more

HORRIBLE BUSINESS. I prepaid for the car beforehand. When I got in they said I needed insurance even though I already added insurance on the prepaid, the girl also added a bunch of things I didn't ask for. It came out to an extra $400 on top of what I already paid for the car. Do not rent from this car rental, they scam you into thinking you need extra insurance with a bunch of other add ons. read more

Horrible experience!!! The agent at the desk giving us our car did not inform us of any extra charges, only the security deposit hold. After leaving the rental location in Denver, we notice an extra charge on our credit card that we didn't agree to or were informed of. After calling them, they told us we were charged for the insurance instead of being offered to use our own car insurance which would have save over $400. We had to drive over an hour and a half back to the Denver location to apply our insurance and was promised we'd get refunded. It's now been over 2 weeks, and after multiple phone calls and emails, we have not received our refund. We are being informed that the refund we will receive is less than the amount we were told at the Denver location. I have shown them proof of invoice and copies of paperwork I was given by routes and they are not refunding me the full amount. The customer service was very misleading and misinforming, has caused us more stress than we ever wanted going on a vacation. We will not be renting from them again and urge others to beware. read more
