I booked my rental through Priceline and paid $337.98 upfront for a reservation that clearly stated unlimited miles and all taxes and fees included. When I arrived at Ace Car Rental, they told me my voucher was only worth $301.72, even though that's not what I paid. I did choose to add the prepaid fuel option and the fast-track service, so I expected those charges. However, the representative also tried to sell me insurance. I explained that I already have my own auto insurance and that my credit card provides rental car coverage. He then told me it was a state requirement to purchase their insurance. Since he made it sound mandatory, I reluctantly agreed. After researching it afterward, I found out that it is not a state requirement. I feel I was misled into buying coverage I didn't need. On top of that, I reserved a full-size sedan but was given a crossover instead. To make matters worse, I was charged additional airport fees, taxes, and other charges despite my Priceline reservation stating that all taxes and fees were included. Priceline says they sent Ace the full amount I paid, while Ace claims they didn't receive it. I don't know who's telling the truth, but I shouldn't have to pay the price for that disagreement. I chose Priceline because I expected they partnered with reputable rental companies. After this experience and reading so many similar reviews, it seems these kinds of issues happen far too often. I've rented from many different car rental companies over the years, and I've never had an experience like this. Between the misleading insurance claim, the unexpected extra charges, and not receiving the vehicle I reserved, this was by far the worst rental experience I've had. Be warned--you may end up paying much more than the advertised price. I've contacted both Priceline and Ace multiple times trying to get this resolved, and all I've gotten is the runaround. Each company points the finger at the other instead of taking responsibility or providing a clear explanation. There's a high pitched whine in the lobby. I can't identify the source, maybe the motor on the sliding door or the fire alarm system. That's probably why they're blasting the TV. The super high ambient noise seems to be making the kids in here more shouty. The lights keep spontaneously turning off. I thought it was customers leaning on the switch by the door but no, the switch just spontaneously turns off. I just saw an employee come fiddle with it for a few seconds to get them to come back on. I just waited in the line for 45 minutes to be told I'd need to pay more than double what my reservation cost. It seems like they are going to double charge me. I guess I'll charge back the double charge. There are 55 customers here and only 3 clerks at the counter. I'm sure people are wondering why I don't just leave. She was trying to pressure me into purchasing additional car insurance when I told her plenty of times NO. I had already purchased it when I booked. And she was still trying to pressure me and make me feel like I had to purchase additional car insurance for $25 a day. After checking out I didn't even know where to get the car, I had to ask around to help me find the car. The car itself was not clean. My husband booked a car with Ace for 5 days in early August. The price he booked was about $325, and when we picked up the car it somehow had changed to more than $800! I see from these reviews that this is not unusual for this company. My husband said the agents at the desk insisted on an extra insurance policy even though he obviously has driver's insurance. We did get a car seat for our son, which amounted to an extra $100 fee, even though we had to install it ourselves. Even with that charge, the prepaid tolls and the scammy mandatory extra insurance policy, I still don't understand how the cost of the reservation more than doubled. While the cost is the most upsetting thing about our experience, there is even more. We were waiting for pickup from the Denver airport for at least a half hour (along with many other frustrated Ace customers), while Hertz, Enterprise and all the other companies had multiple vans coming every minute. When the Ace van finally picked us up, the van was overpacked due to so many customers accumulating in the hot pickup lanes at the airport. Some people had to stand throughout the transport. Also, the transport from the airport to Ace took about 20 minutes! Once at Ace, the line took at least another 30 minutes, and the water fountains did not work. To top everything off, the outside of the car was very dirty. Rental cars are usually gleaming when you pick them up. I booked my rental through Ace website and declined the insurance since I have my own. When I got there, I was charged and additional 220.00 more than what I actually reserved the car for. I was charged for prepaid fuel and a bunch of other charges. I was also charged a waiver fee daily which I stated I have never had to do before when declining insurance. I was not given a choice and told I need to sign it or no car. Seeing the car was reserved a 1 1 /2 prior there was no way of getting another car that morning. When I returned the car I asked to speak to the Manager and he was very rude and told me since I signed it there was nothing they can do about it. I Began to tell him it was his employee that gave me no choice Pay or No car. Original employee was too busy on his phone and wouldn't even look and my confirmation just insisted that I pay waiver fee daily or no car. As for the manager he was no better and told me call customer service there nothing I can do for you Would never recommend renting a car from them again expect to pay a couple hundred more than your reservation says. Didn't know until driving through a thunderstorm that the tires were BALD. We hydroplaned to the point that we almost hit the truck adjacent to us and the guardrail. I was EXTREMELY hesitant after reading the reviews but they were bad for all of the rental companies at the Denver airport so I took a chance. My experience was great! I booked and paid for my car online. When I arrived, there was no line. I declined all the extras with no push back. I received the vehicle I reserved and I was in and out in 10 minutes. It's about a 10-15 minute shuttle ride to the rental company from the airport, which was actually nice because it's in the middle of nowhere, so you get to avoid the airport traffic. Serious savings to be had. ACE Rent a Car was just about the cheapest option we found for rentals near Denver International Airport. As such, they're located off the airport and require taking a free shuttle ride between there and the rental lot. We booked a compact SUV, the cheapest option available, and were given a Hyundai Venue. The car was reasonably comfortable, handled well, and the acceleration was punchy. We did run into one issue. Several hours after we got the car, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerted us about one of the tires being at low pressure (27 psi). I had to get that taken care of the next day. We might chalk that up to Denver's pothole-ridden roads, but losing so much air pressure in a day is not typical, so I feel that ACE should have caught the impending low pressure situation during the last maintenance check. Dropoff was very informal. The staff just instructed us to leave the car there. I went to the counter to see if we needed to check out, but they told us we were good. We never got an email wrapping things up, despite the staff saying that we would get one shortly. If you want a reasonably affordable rental without the hassle, and without much else, ACE is not a bad option. All things considered, I can see us renting from them again. read more

BUYER BEWARE - Dishonest pricing and poor customer service I booked a car through Booking.com for my trip to Denver -- $120 total from Saturday to Wednesday. When I arrived at ACE Rent A Car, I was told my reserved vehicle was no longer available because I was "past my reservation time." Per the customer service representative replying to my complaint - I was 6 minutes late! I had provided my flight information in advance so they knew my arrival time, and even though I was at their facility within the 4-hour grace period (the shuttle took about 15 minutes and I waited another 30 minutes in line), they refused to honor my reservation. Instead, they said they'd "give me a discount" on a larger car -- but the total came out to $400, more than three times the original price. The so-called discount never appeared, and they added extra fees and a pre-paid gas charge they claimed would be cheaper (it wasn't). When I reached out afterward, ACE refused to make it right or refund the difference. This company does not honor their own reservations, misleads customers about pricing, and takes advantage of travelers after they've arrived with limited options. I recommend booking elsewhere -- the cheap upfront price isn't worth the frustration or the surprise charges. read more

Warning - do not use this rental. I am a travel professional. The return location is not the same place as pickup. They will charge an additional $25 for the shuttle at the end. When I dropped it off (at Fine Parking) I told to by a short, young gal with dark hair to leave the keys in the car and was good to go. So, I left the keys on the dash. Then a young man came out and asked if I needed service. I told him what the young lady instructed me and he also confirmed. They pointed to the shuttle and said that was where I needed to go. Now Ace is telling me no one found the keys and are charging me $450 for a replacement. What?! Now I see how they make their money. What a bunch of liars. I will never refer them to my customers!! Well. The shuttle every 10 minutes is a stretch, plan on 30. Then, plan to be in line an hour. From there, it was a good experience. Carolyn helped me at the desk. She was friendly and helpful. Yes, she did describe the insurance benefits to me, but didn't push me. My regular insurance is very good, so I passed. The cost would have been as the much as the car. My car was clean, for the most part. It wasn't washed, and they seem to have a water outage there. No worry. The inside of the car was clean and it worked well. Zero issues with the car. Returning the car was ok. I asked the girl that was checking in the car how she was and she just mumbled, "I'm here." Sad for her and I hope it gets better. She was the sole down side. Gives the price, the long wait to get the car was negligible. And, given the friendly and helpful staff to get the car, that wait felt ok. BUYER BEWARE!! Better yet, RUN from this place. I usually review new companies, but I was foolish to not do so with this company until it was too late. Besides long lines, my biggest complaint (which I see I share with many other customers) is their shady business practice. I told the employee I did not want to purchase additional car insurance- that I had my own- and he said it doesn't matter, Colorado law mandates I purchase insurance in Colorado. I argued that it doesn't make sense and I've never heard that, but he said I could not rent the car without it, my insurance wouldn't cover it. In the meantime, my disabled mother has been waiting outside and needing to get to her destination. I felt pressure to capitulate and pay the exorbitant fee and decided I would have to deal with it later. When I contacted the company, I was told they couldn't help me and to speak to a manager when I drop off the car. I also tried emailing the company and never got a response. Unfortunately, when I returned the car, the line was once again quite long. Knowing the wait time from before, I had to decide if waiting to speak to a manager was potentially worth stressing out my mother and missing the flight. So once home, I contacted the company AGAIN and was told to provide proof of my insurance, which I did, only to get denied assistance because I "signed the contract." To reiterate, I was given false information despite my protestations. I was not even afforded the opportunity to use my own insurance because I was told it wouldn't be taken. I had to digitally "sign" a contract I couldn't even physically see because it's in the hands of the employee relaying the same misguided information, all while I'm stranded in the middle of nowhere, needing the car I already paid for weeks prior. I take the blame for not avoiding this place beforehand, but having since read the numerous similar complaints, I'm shocked this company continues treating customers like this. read more

Rented a full size SUV online for $400 for a week while in Denver. We were aware there would be fees. When we arrived, we were told that there was a new law REQUIRING AWD in the mountains and the fine for not having it was steep. So, he "upgraded" us to an AWD for this reason. Then, he told us the toll road fees would be, to start, at least $50 and then each camera at least $3 plus fees "and there are cameras really close together". So, the charge for using toll roads would be super expensive and told us we'd be better off with the toll package. Then, he advised us that our vehicle insurance would not protect us in any accident or damage because we'd be charged the rental fee per day until the car was fixed and that could take months. So, add that to the cost. When all was said and done with all these "requirements" to protect us because everything was worst case, we went from $400 to $1400. Come to find out, the tolls are not that high, they do not require AWD unless there is a lot of snow and an alert goes out before they require AWD or chains. So, it's not like they require it all the time or just instantly. The "full size "SUV" was a Dodge Durango which was not the size of the Ford Expedition it said originally. The girl next to us refused all of it and suddenly her rate skyrocketed because she was a "high risk" driver. She asked why, but they couldn't give her a justification. I would give them 1 star, however the car itself was fine, so I added a star. Beyond that, my experience is that they were very unethical to deal with. First, they asked if I would like to add a 2nd driver. I was debating, so I asked the cost. They said it would be an additional $15, so I said go ahead. Well, it wasn't $15. It was $15 per day. Not until I asked the total did this her clarified. Trust me, he knew when I said how much additional would it cost that I was not asking per day or per minute or per nanosecond. Next was the gas. He said you're better off just bringing the car back and letting us fill it up. We only charge $2.99 a gallon. I said oh actually that sounds pretty good let's do that. Luckily, I found some fine print that said yes, they only charge $2.99 a gallon but they charge you for 20 gallons no matter how much was in the tank when you bring it back!!! I asked him about it and he said yeah we just bill for the 20 gallons. Such BS. Theu deliberately mislead you. You have to be on your toes to not let them scam you. I hate doing business with companies like that. So I won't be back even though I thought the car itself was fine. The final thing was the massive ripoff that I guess many rental companies do now with regard to toll tags. He did the same BS sandwich you like it toll tag it's only $15. By this point I was like um you mean per day? And of course it was per day. So you have to pay $15 a day for a toll tag. So for a one-week rental it's $75. Like you would ever use anywhere near that amount in tolls. Were they get you though, is that if you don't do the toll tag every time it toll gets charged to the vehicle they charge you a $50 processing fee in addition to the toll! Seriously? $50 to automatically process $1.25 toll? So if you go through a fuel tool zones, and you didn't get the toll tag, you're going to rack up potentially a couple hundred dollars in fees for processing a few dollar in tolls. So buyer beware at ACR. They are looking to get over on you in many different ways. read more
