The breakfast potatoes were almost black, hard and crumbled. The service is middle of the road. It's a lovely place, but I will not return due to my experience, not to mention its very expensive for what you get, one piece of toast or 1 waffle. This place is amazing! Really nice ambiance and delicious food. We had the hot chicken and waffle, shrimp and grits, beignets, and biscuit with honey. The shrimp and grits were delicious and perfectly spiced. The chicken and waffles were very tasty, and we liked that they were savory. All in all, the beignets were the star of the show. Nice little spot with a great looking menu. Not a huge fan of the ordering system. Ordering up front then your food is brought out. Not a huge deal but it makes the process of having a desert just slightly trickier. The food was pretty good. Shrimp and grits were fine but maybe a little under seasoned. The dish had a Chili Worcestershire butter but there was zero heat. My daughter had the Patty Melt which she really enjoyed. We would have liked a Cinnamon Roll but being just after 3pm they were sold out. Might come back to try the Beignets and catch a Cinnamon Roll. read more

Fantastic place, great food. I got the brisket hash and it was a nice portion. Don't be intimidated by the line, it moves and you are seated when you place your order. My only issue is if you want any additional food you have to wait in line again. My kids wanted more hash browns, a simple $3 item, but to accommodate them I'd have to go to the back of a line that went out the door. After spending $60 with tip I had to make them more food when we got home. Hopefully they can figure out a better way to handle this. If they do I promise I'll update this review and make it 5 stars. read more

I've only been twice, and each time I've had the shrimp and grits. The dish is so flavorful, and the portion size is just right. The 1st time I came, it was with friends on a busy Saturday afternoon. The 2nd time was a Thursday afternoon - no line, no wait, and plenty of open seating. Roux is a great addition to the HP area, and I'm sure I'll return soon. read more

Roux is a great addition to Hyde Park. The food is southern Cajun and the restaurant is tastfully decorated to reflect such. I have eaten here twice. Each time I've ordered the Classic Breakfast with an extra biscuit. Overall I enjoyed the breakfast however both times the biscuits were salty. The 1st time they were almost not edible. The 2nd time they were less salty. As a matter of fact the 2nd visit the eggs were salty as well. My sister ordered the beignets and they were FABULOUS! They are yeast beignets which is different than New Orleans. Overall 4 stars because of the heavy salt but I will return and bring friends! read more

Such a disappointment! My daughter and I were so excited to try this breakfast spot out. The ambiance was very inviting and airy. It's a total Instagram aesthetic spot. The interior itself earned it one star. However, the food was very disappointing, along with the service. My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles, which tasted as if the ingredients were a bottle of hot sauce smothered on chicken. I ordered the catfish, which was okay but lacking flavor. And the beignets?? What a joke. They were so disgusting we threw them out after two bites. This is a joke of a twist on New Orlean's style cuisine. The food presentation was perfect but did not taste the way it looked. They do not serve bottled water or have lemons which is entirely absurd. Who doesn't have bottled water to purchase??? The two young ladies that took our order clearly did not look as if they wanted to be there. Delicious food and a welcome addition to the neighborhood breakfast options. The grits are a star, the chicken and waffles are great but beware if you don't love spicy, they are Nashville hot style. The waffle is one of the best I've had, I just get the hot drizzle on the side. Other favorites include the catfish, the quiche, and the classic breakfast but you can't go wrong here. Will try to be brief but accurate with a review. We arrived about 25 minutes before closing time which may contribute to some observations that we had. We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely decorating and atmosphere in the restaurant when we walked in. The coffee arrived at a table in paper cups which I never use and asked the server if a China cup was available - - he brought that over but didn't offer to bring a fresh cup and I poured the coffee from the paper to the China cup myself. It was very weak in taste. However, the shrimp and grits that I ordered were absolutely outstanding. I've never ordered that anywhere and had leftovers for breakfast the next day which I thoroughly enjoyed. My husband. had the classic breakfast and thought that it was just OK and commented that the bacon seemed like the last two pieces that had been made earlier in the morning. I did get a taste of the very small potatoes and thought they were excellent and puffy. We're happy to see a lovely restaurant in Hyde Park and will give it another try and not come so late. I learned about this place off the Nudge app. It's really freaking cute! Came here on a rainy Saturday morning and warmed us up with good coffee and food. I got the breakfast platter w sausage and grits. The grits are stone grinded and they are phenomenal!!! I can only dream of replicating them at home. Next time I'll prolly opt for a grits bowl. The sausage was spicy and good but would prefer to have 2 sausages rather than one small patty. Babe's omelette was a good size and the cinnamon roll filled him up. The beignets were alright today. They seemed almost a little undercooked in the center, wasn't too airy or spongy. But does not deter me from ordering them again and coming back. I recommend y'all. read more

Limited menu especially if you are coming with kids. No pancakes, waffles or French toast. I had the biscuits and gravy. It was good but I prefer my gravy thicker and meatier with more ground sausage. My son had the cinnamon roll and he said it was good. This is not a place to come And relax. It's VERY loud or at least was the day I was there. I couldn't hear from across the table without leaning over to hear. Line moves quick and food arrived fast. Just too loud for us. read more

The food smelled so good and was so delicious that I forgot to take a picture before beginning to eat. The grits were creamy and seasoned just right; the addition of the mini chives added a special flair. I wanted to burst into the kitchen and ask the chef, "what in the world did you do to these grits to make them sooo good." The sausage, I have no words. Finally, my colleague and students shared their delectably crunching and tender breakfast potatoes AND the incredibly fluffy warm beignet; this was my first time eating one. We went at 11 am on a Sunday. We were impressed wit the overall decor and they were checking for vaccination cards (live that). The rest was meh. The concept is order and pay at the counter and find a seat. My issue was all the paper menus were on the tables that you were to sit at after you order. That makes absolutely no sense because you need to decide fairly quickly what you're going to have once you make it to the register. They were out of several things by the time we got there which was disappointing, come on - who runs out of breakfast potatoes? I ordered an omelet and had to get fries as a side. I wanted to get a substitute for the meat but not able to which was annoying. My son got the chicken and waffles. My omelette was over cooked and nothing special. My son's chicken and waffles was meh. All in all I wasn't impressed with anything beyond the decor. If they put more effort into the food I may consider coming back but for now it's a no go read more

I couldn't grasp the concept of walking in to order, stand in this long line, then seat yourself, huh? Anywho, I've heard great things and waited. The QR code wasn't showing the menu, so waited until my turn to order before seeing the options. Good thing it's simple and not overwhelming. We ordered the beignets, breakfast brisket bowl, and shrimp and grits. Soon as we found seating, I kid you not, the food came out. It's like the concept I originally thought was stupid is now genius. It takes away the time waiting for your food, and gives others time to eat and leave. Soon I quickly forgot about the slightly lengthy wait in line. Ate my food and left. It's definitely not a place to linger. All-in-All I probably spent 30-45 mins here. The menu perhaps is a little pricey, and the food is very good, def won't frequent here; everything is self service, and I don't think you need to tip. You be the judge. Bon appétit!!! read more

My wife had the avocado toast and while I was skeptical about putting mustard seed and chow chow on avocado, it works and then some. My daughter had an omelets that was better than most (I'm not a huge omelet fan but I would have that one). I went with the standard bacon, eggs grits and biscuit. Everything was perfect and the star was the grits. I'm a southerner and so love my grits. These were creamy and done perfectly with a hint of heat. We finished it off with beignets. I arrived at Roux dead set on getting the classic breakfast to-go, little did I know that they do not offer their whole menu to-go - I had to pivot, and fast! The obvious choice was the breakfast sandwich. It had just about all the same items I was wanting, in sandwich form at that. I walked a couple blocks back to work and prepared to eat what I was kind of sad wasn't my classic breakfast - but the first bite brushed away any feeling of sadness and replaced it with utter bliss. That sandwich was crafted by the gods. The biscuit is buttery and flaky, but still manages to stand up to the sandwich (for the most part, until the very end where I had to fork and knife it). The sausage was my favorite part, flavorful and packed full of spices without being salty. And I forget whatever sauce they put on it, but boy oh boy that + the cheese really glued that whole thing together in the best possible way. So I tried out this fairly new diner on the south side of Chicago in Hyde Park called Roo Roo and it was a very pleasant experience,. The decor was simple kind of rustic but still chic and edgy. The food was Cajun inspired or creole inspired? I always get these two terms confused. nevertheless the menu had New Orleans inspired food and flavors featuring menu items like beignets and shrimp and grits. I tried A dish that had fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese some sort of spicy sauce and a fried egg on brioche bread. I can't remember the exact name of the dish but it was really tasty, really good and filling. We had some mimosas and the line for this place kept growing. Every five minutes the line would go down and then be out the door again which just really speaks to how much people enjoy this place. If you need a quick bite to eat on the weekends or even during the week I highly recommend this place. read more

We stopped here before going to the Museum of Science and Industry. It was amazing! Expect long line on the weekend but they are efficient in prepping your table and they get out the food impeccably fast. Ambience and decor is beautiful and nicely lit. The staff was nice and accommodating. Everything was organized at the table where you grab condiments, waters, to go boxes. Beignets were very yummy. The shrimp and grits was very good.
