Salad
Sylvia Y.

Came here for lunch and got the Cold Fried Chicken Salad. Lots of seating inside and I like how bright it was inside despite it being rainy. I didn't care for the cold fried chicken. I understood that the chicken was supposed to be cold, but my gripe was that it was dry. The salad itself was yummy though. The lettuce was crisp and went well with the sweet cranberries and candied pecans. Big portion size. Service was efficient. I would come back here to try something other than their salad.

Went here for breakfast. We had 2 toasts, beignets, 3 egg omelette and assorted coffee. Service was friendly and prompt. The beignets were the best I have had outside of New Orleans. Great casual joint which I would come back to.

Always delicious food. Diner but the food is much better than your average diner experience. Only knock is that it can get super busy and the wait can be a bit long. Other than that it's very much worth a visit.

We went to try Roux Diner for the first time since we were going to MSI. It's a wonderful spot! We got: Beignets: 4/5 very yum snd fluffy! Classic breakfast: 4/5 very standard. I did upgrade to a biscuit and it's well worth! The spot is very casual and you order at the counter and pick your own seats. The service was fast as well.

My experience was great. I enjoyed my food and I had a latte. I liked the quick service and friendly atmosphere. The bakery looked divine, so I'll have to come back soon for beignets and a cinnamon roll!

I came back to try the classic breakfast again with a biscuit and bacon. 10s across the board. It's still very clean. The grits are one of my favs. Now the biscuit is at the top of my list as well. Ammaaaazzimg ! I also collect point through the toast app. The staff were pretty nice and helpful.

What a fantastic place ! Came with a friend. Delicious food! (I had the quiche, friend got fried green tomato tartine, we split beignets). Not sure if those from NoLa would approve but to me it was definitely like a place I'd go to in the French Quarter. I sat that like I know NoLa- ha. I don't I've only been there once. But it's great NoLa inspired food. Definitely would return. Good coffee too. Lots of seating. You order at counter and they bring you food. Please patronize this yummy establishment.

Patty melts, beignets

We got the patty melt and beignets. Food was delicious and portions generous. The beignets were still dense and tasty even after waiting a bit to have them as dessert after our food. Early dinner on a weekday isn't very crowded at all.

This was our second time here & that says ALOT! we try not to repeat places, but I can most definitely say that this won't be our last! The food was amazing as an all day breakfast place too! I personally am not big on breakfast, but Roux has changed my mind. The inside is clean and well decorated, I loved the platters that they used as decor. The set up is a walk up order then they will seat you. Even if the line seems long, everything went by fairly quick! I think we were only seated for 5-10 minutes before the food came out. We tried the shrimp and grits this time around, and they were delicious. The shrimp were plum,p and the grits were cheesy and so good! We also got the beignets and omg the fluffiest I have ever had! The presentation was also so well done, they sprinkled powdered sugar on the plate, but it didn't overpower the beignets, so if you wanted more sugar, you could add it. The star of the show, in my opinion, are the biscuits. They are light, fluffy, and buttery. They paired it with this semi-spicy honey that complemented it well! Definitely a must go~

My daughter says she gives it 10 stars out of 5. or 5 cat emojis. The line for counter service looked long, but it moved quickly and a host had a table ready for us. All the food was fresh and delicious. The beignets were extra yum, as was the deviled eggs.

Fried Green Tomatoes w/ a side of Ranch Dressing

Roux is different from your average diner. When you walk in it is bright and open. The bright whiteness of the space makes it look large, while the table placements give it a farm appeal. You order from a minimal menu, but the food is phenomenal! O had the Shrimp & Grits and literally cleared the plate! The Patty Melt was another staple for this establishment. The fries were crispy and the melt was well seasoned and presented. As for service, your order when you walk in and the cashier was efficient. The individual bringing to the table was on point with deliveries and the wait for your entrees was not long. When I first looked at Roux with the naked eye, I was less than impressed and decided not to ever visit; however, I'm glad I ventured in because it was worth it.

Shrimp & Grits, Egg Benedict

I recently visited this spot and overall had a pretty nice experience. The service was great -- everyone was friendly and attentive, which made the evening enjoyable. The ambiance was really good too -- cozy, welcoming, and perfect for a casual place The food was just okay, though. Some dishes were a little on the salty side for my taste. It wasn't bad, but it didn't quite live up to the rest of the experience.

This visit to Roux was much better than my last. I had shrimp & grits, which were really good, and my date had a sandwich that he also enjoyed. It looked delicious. We also tried the beignets and cinnamon rolls. Dessert was definitely my favorite part of the meal. Roux operates as more of a self-service spot. You order at the front, seat yourself, grab your own napkins and water, and even box up your leftovers yourself. The staff did a good job of clearing tables once we finished eating. The ambiance is decent, with a good amount of seating and a nice patio for warmer weather. My only complaint is that the prices feel a bit high considering the self-service model, but the food was tasty definitely an improvement from my last visit.

They were a bit short-staffed that morning, so service was slower than usual, but we weren't in a hurry and the staff remained friendly throughout. I ordered the daily special French toast, added fruit and pecans, plus a side of bacon. The French toast was absolutely massive and could easily be shared. My only complaint was the $3.75 charge for pecans, which felt a little steep for the amount included. Overall, the food was good, the diner atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for, and there's something special about dining in such a historic Chicago institution. If you're visiting the city and don't mind a bit of a wait, Lou Mitchell's is worth experiencing at least once.

And this is on top of the city parking you have to pay to eat there. It's just craziness. I will say that the toast was pretty delicious. The server was nice enough. The bathrooms were downstairs and needed attention.

We also enjoyed an iced coffee and a chocolate shake, both of which were fantastic. Of course, we couldn't resist trying a few extras, so we ordered the chocolate-covered pancakes and potato pancakes for the table. Both were incredible and the perfect addition to our meal. I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

After what felt like 5 years to try this place, I FINALLY got to try the famous burger here! Spark…read morenotes: this place is definitely worth the wait! My friend and I dedicated a day where we would just put our name down and however long it took we would wait haha. We drove into the city which took and hour and we put our name down and waited an hour before we were called. The weather was great so we just walked around the west loop area. We started with a half size of the green salad and a half size of the roasted bone marrow. The house salad is super refreshing. A lot of vinegar in the dressing which I personally really like. Also tasted some fennel which was an interesting flavor. The roasted bone marrow is the winner of the night. I would come back to Au Cheval for this alone. It was paired with a thick slice of Texas toast and a beef cheek marmalade and it is seriously the PERFECT balance of flavors. Fatty. Sweet. Buttery. Literally insane and this is a must order! Then came the famous burger. My friend and I each ordered a single cheeseburger with the egg and bacon added. Something to note is that the single cheeseburger actually has 2 patties and the double cheeseburger has 3 patties (3/4lbs of beef). The presentation itself is beautiful and makes you just not want to eat it haha. The burger itself is so decadent and hefty with the burger patties, cheese, egg and bacon. I'll be honest, I needed some more pickles or just something to cut all the fattiness of the burger. There were pickles in the burger and it is served with a huge pickle spear. But I still was itching for some more bitterness/acid to balance the flavors. It was so decadent, I couldn't finish it all. All in all, I would definitely come back and order the burger again and would recommend it to anyone! We ordered a side of fries which came with their garlic aioli. The fries were cooked to perfection. Super crunchy on the outside and nice and soft on the inside and piping hot! The garlic aioli is perfect and have no notes for it. We also were treated to a vanilla scoop with chocolate sauce which was the perfect cap to our meal! Our waitress was so friendly and my friend and I loved her! She was so sweet and genuine. The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).
