So yummy..We're from the south, so we generally eat Carolina style Bbq, but this place is on point. We were drawn in by the smoke and the smell wafting in the street. We had the brisket and the pulled pork. They were equally delicious. Perfectly cooked and tender, they both had very different flavors. The pork was slightly sweeter and the brisket was a little peppery. For people who are complaining about the sauce level, why didn't you just ask for light sauce? Clearly, it is not being dumped out of a bucket in the back room...appreciate that people in different parts of the country eat things many different ways. We also had the fried pierogies which were tasty and crispy and could only have been improved with the addition of sour cream. We'll be back on our next visit to Pittsburgh! read more

This visit was disappointing. I have always enjoyed the food here but this time there was very little meat and almost no sauce on our sandwiches. We just used Rowdy BBQ for my fiancé's 30th birthday. I called Rowdy and thought I was ordering enough food for my crowd of 45 people-- Steve politely told me I was not and that I would have a lot of hungry people! Haha! He took the time to explain what would be best for my size party and how to best allocate my budget. He answered all of my questions and answered back emails quickly. On the day of the event, our food arrived on time and the delivery person went above and beyond to help make sure everything looked great! When its fresh its the best if its not its dry and terrible. I have been a few times and you can't get better when its right off the smoker when it sits around for awhile its like a whole different place. My boyfriend decided to stop here on the way to pick my son up and I have to say I'm extremely glad that he did! From the outside it doesn't look like much but I guess good things do come in small packages! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and a side of Mac and Cheese and he got the mushroom burger with fries. Both of the sandwiches were huge (I cut mine in half and got more than two meals worth out of it) and so were the portions for the sides. The fries were amazing but I wasn't the biggest fan of the Mac and cheese, it had diced peppers in it and it really threw the taste off for me. He was nice and shared his fries with me and we definitely didn't leave hungry. I'll definitely be back to try out some of their other choices!! read more

I adore this place. I've had variety of sandwiches from them and they are always huge, delicious and reasonably priced. Their hot pepper cheese balls and Mac and cheese are also amazing. It is an outside place on the side of route 51 which I suppose is a small downfall but it doesn't keep me from giving it 5 stars. They have a few picnic tables you can sit at but otherwise it's more of a take out type place. You can also have them cater larger events which I've only experienced once but it was just as good as it is when I get a single sandwich. The food only takes them about 10 min to have ready for you as well or you can always call ahead and order too! I've had their chicken bacon ranch and buffalo chicken sandwiches and both are sooo good. I've also had their regular Philly cheesesteak and their chicken Philly cheesesteak and neither of those have disappointed either. Their pulled pork is equally amazing. The big pig sandwich is one of my absolute go to items on their menu, being that they are obviously a BBQ place as you can see from the name, you know their BBQ sandwiches have to be amazing. Stopped by to try some pulled pork, and ended up getting "The Whole Hog" since it's pretty cheap and only about $1.50 more than the basic pulled pork sandwich. What we did not expect was a sandwich that was like the size of my forearm--it was literally a hoagie roll filled to the brim with meat, cheese, and some of the vegetables that we requested added to the sandwich. I've had big sandwiches, but I didn't see any way that it could've been picked up in its entirety and eaten with hands. This was definitely a steal in terms of value, considering that the pulled pork was as good as they advertised. I have had pulled pork that was awesome, smokey, peppery, and moist. Then I have had it dry, little flavor, and absolutely no pepper. The quantity is great, but just not always the best quality. Our family loves BBQ so when we crave it we head to Rowdy. It's a small place with no indoor seating. Outside there are a couple of picnic tables. It doesn't have to be summertime to enjoy Rowdy's food. They have take out year round! Yum! Tonight we ordered ribs, chicken, a burger, a chili cheese dog, coleslaw, and fries. Our family likes to share so we laid it out banquet style. I enjoyed a little of everything but enjoyed the chicken the most. Not only are their meats bathed in delicious BBQ sauce, they are also smoked. Not every BBQ place smokes their meats. If you are unfamiliar with the smoking process you need to know that it turns the meat pink on the inside. Some people freak out and think the meat is undercooked. Their fries are handcut and their coleslaw is perfectly balanced. And don't miss out on their chili! With the smoked meat it is fabulous! I wish I could recreate it at home. They have your basic roadside BBQ faire and I tried the Buffalo Pulled Chicken sandwich and Mac & Cheese. After a short wait in the cold, the lady tapped on the glass to let me know I could begin. The Buffalo Pulled Chicken was tasty, it would have been out of this world if not for the cold, untoasted roll(-1). Cold sandwich, cold bread, hot sandwich, hot bread. The best part of the meal were the fries. Ordered the combo with a half rack of ribs and chicken with a side of baked beans and fries. Waited a solid 20 min or so after ordering for my order to be ready to grab at the window. The ribs and chicken were absolutely drowning in sauce which I don't like. Good bbq should have sauce offered on the side. The chicken was dry and pretty bland. The ribs were ok, a little over cooked and not much flavor from the rub. As a usual her I was expecting some of Pittsburgh's finest BBQ. I was very disappointed in what we received and will never go back. The Mac and cheese was old. Maybe put in the Togo container a day or four ago and reheated. I couldn't even get a fork full out, one giant clump even after I tried to reheat. Ribs were ok. Nothing to remember. Fries, awesome as alway. But since four of us ate there three of us began running to bath room for the past 8 hrs. As a local chef I should have known something was off when I went for the Mac and cheese. Very disappointed and will not be going back any time soon, if ever read more

We had Rowdy's cater my son's birthday party (25 adults + 14 kids) this past weekend. We discovered Rowdy's at a Cystic Fibrosis event where they were handing out ribs and pulled pork. They were both fantastic, especially the ribs. Now I didn't splurge and give all of my guests the babyback ribs, but we did get 7 pounds of pulled pork, 30 pieces of BBQ chicken and 30 pieces of chicken tenders. Everything was a hit. They provided buns, already sliced, a bottle of extra bbq sauce, plus a container of hot bbq and mild buffalo. I loved the buffalo sauce, very unique (haven't figured out the secret ingredient, but there's something unique in there). The chicken tenders went fast. Didn't get to try them myself. The BBQ chicken probably wasn't the best choice for a gathering like ours. When provided with options, I just think people stay away because it's more difficult to eat. Plus, most of my guests were also trying to feed their kids. But I had a lot of left over BBQ chicken, and it was really really good. Very moist, when good subtle smokey flavor. And the extra sauces they gave us were great to dip into. If I did it again, I'd get some more chicken tenders, and get hot wings instead of bbq chicken. I should note that when I was talking to the owner/manager, he said the chicken tenders do typically go faster. Doesn't mean they're better, just probably a better option when catering, especially with kids around. Exctied to get back there and try a full rack of ribs for myself! read more

I haven't tested the waters of the BBQ World in Pittsburgh as of yet, considering it's expanded since I left 9 years ago. This place is a small stand off of Clairton Blvd, and I never thought much of it until I had my husband stop for dinner one night after I got a craving. The ribs were fantastic--fall off the bone and delicious. I had the pulled pork, and it's what you expect for slow cooked pork. Add a little BBQ sauce and it's perfect. Ask for extra. The macaroni is your standard fare, the wheel has not been reinvented, but it's good. The price and service are great. We'll continue to explore the menu, but you can't go wrong with their ribs or plain old pulled pork or brisket. Just ask for extra sauce! read more
