Whoever the receptionist is that answered my phone call today is difficult to deal with and close to being rude. I have been calling several Vet offices today to find someone who could have a cyst removed from my dog sooner then my vet can next Feb. Every office I called was able to let me know if they could perform surgery sooner then Feb. and gave me a date or week with the exception of this one. She said exam first. I said ok. Then I follow up with after exam when is the soonest surgery date. Again she said must do exam first. I even asked her to take my number down and ask the vet and then call me back. Again the same response only ruder. I told he I spoke with a half dozen offices this morning and everyone could tell me a date. With how unhelpful, unwilling, condescending and rude the receptionist is, it reflects poorly on the vet and makes me questions the vets decision making and competence. read more

My family used Rowland as our vet for 13 years. (2 dogs and 3 cats). Recently our dog went in to have a lump surgically removed. Turned out to be cancer. As recommended, we opted to close her up and let her live out her time left in less pain. The incision was an inch long. She was prescribed a weeks worth of pain meds and antibiotics. Two days after, we had to take her back, due to blood dripping through her bandages onto our floor. Two days later.....SAME thing again. Both times, we were charged over $200 for "emergency service". No additional medication or treatment to help stop the bleeding or pain, just bandages. We left the second time with an outstanding bill of $220. For the following two+ weeks, we changed dripping bandages, washed bloody blankets and bedding, and shampooed rugs every single day. No relief from the amount of blood, only an addition of rotting flesh smell. We put our dog down today. Rowland was a great vet, when he was in his run down old clinic....full of love and empathy. Since moving and expanding his practice, it's all about money. Doubled office visit fees, impersonal customer service, impossible office hours. We received phone calls (after informing them we would be in to pay the bill, that we were taking it "personally", and they would call the cops on us if we didn't come pay. We have ALWAYS payed! Taking it personal? ABSOLUTELY! Pets are family.....what's more personal than that!? We will not be back! read more

We were provided with a clear schedule for vaccines, Doc took time to answer all of our questions (never felt rushed), and our kitten was thoroughly examined. Our family had been bringing our pets to Dr Rowland for 25 years. Today, when trying to make an appointment for my cat, I was informed that when booking an appointment I was informed that all appointments must be paid for at time of making the appointment. I find that slightly ridiculous and a tad offensive. 25 years, never an issue. But apparently a few people didn't pay, or what have you so now the policy is pay up front. Personally I think it's a horrible policy. I understand the man wants to get paid, and deserves to get paid for his services. But if certain people are comfortable not being responsible and not paying their bills, than maybe he should deal with those individuals directly rather than telling customers that have been seeing him for more than 2 decades, with zero issues, that they are deadbeats that can't be trusted. They may be treating everyone the same in requiring payment up front,but to a 20+ year customer they might as well called me a thief and hung up on me. As much as I don't want to, I'll find a new veterinarian. He's a good veterinarian. I have a lot of respect for the man. However if they are going to treat me as if I'm their worst patient, I'll find a new vet. Furthermore if this is the way things are going in this world. These two fur babies will be the last I ever adopt. (I gave 2 stars out of respect for the man's abilities as a veterinarian, the policy in question gets 0.) read more

I am very upset!!!! My dog was spayed at this practice two weeks ago and had stitches put in. Today,was the first day I was able to remove her cone after being spayed. I took my dog to this vet today because her wound seemed to have dehisced. I go in, talk to the ladies at front desk. They informed me that they will bring her back to let the TECHs look at her to see if she even needs to see the vet. I say okay. They take her back, maybe 15-30mins later I can hear my dog screaming!!!!!!! I say to my husband, why is she screaming? The screaming kept happening and I'm thinking to myself what's going on back there, while waiting for them to come back and tell us what the vet thinks and what needs to be done. Few mins later, the screaming stops, the tech walks out with our dog and say, "we had to put a few staples in her to stop her wound from completely opening I immediately ask her, did you give her pain medication before stapling her wound? She says NO! Immediately furious but trying to control my rage. I then proceed to tell her well that's explains why she was screaming and I don't appreciate yall stapling my dog without you coming back out here to tell me what you were going to do!!!! That's why I was waiting, to give the okay!!! Also say I really don't appreciate y'all stapling my dog WITHOUT ANY PAIN RELEIF!!!!!! She tried to downplay her pain and say oh it was positional. No it was NOT yall stapled my dogs and I can hear her scream.....I keep my composure, ask the lady at the from desk if I can have pain meds and she tell me well, doc may NOT want to give her any but if that will make you comfortable then I'll go ask. Excuse me my dog was just stapled and had her female parts taken out of course I want more pain meds! Would you want a hysterectomy and not have pain meds??? I don't think so! It would have been so respected and appreciated had y'all communicated with my husband and I on what was going to go on next. I could have advocated for my pup and asked if she could have local injectable anesthetic!!! I would have gladly paid for that instead of hearing her scream and not being informed what was the next step! I'm very upset, furious, cried the whole way home because All my husband and I wanted was some communication and things could have gone so smoothly! Also, performing a procedure on a dog is very unethical if the dog is screaming or seems to be in pain and can be consider dog abuse! I'm pretty sure they didn't care enough to even clean the site before stapling her! They were so rush and wanted to staple her and send us on our way!!!! I would give them 0 stars if I could........ They mis-diagnosed my little dog Diva and the front desk staff is very rude and condescending. We had been taking our 2 little dogs to this firm for several years and all was fine. This vet came highly regarded because he was a friend of a close friend of ours and he had taken care of his dogs for many years. . The last month and a half has been a nightmare - PURE HELL for us. One of our little dogs (Ms Diva, 12 years old Malshi) became very sick. She seemed very tired and weak; could barely walk... We took her to Rowland Animal, and we were advised Diva had some type of infection and would need to be hospitalized to treat her. She stayed in the hospital for a week, and we were advised she had pancreatitis and would need to be on a low-fat diet for the rest of her life. We were told we must have her on Hill Science ID no exception which requires a prescription. I paid over $1200 for the vet hospital cost and this special dog food supplied by the vets office. On the day Diva came home. She didn't appear to be any better than when we took her there a week earlier, but I trusted this vet had taken great care of her. I WAS WRONG!!! I called Rowland Hospital 48 hours later after being release from the hospital and I advised Diva would not eat this Hills Science Food could they prescribe something else. The receptionist that answers the phone over there very rude and condescending to us (Her first name Starts with a B) is all I will say.. I was transferred to a vet tech and I voiced my concerns and she advised Doc wants her on this food and when the dog gets hungry enough she would eat it. I need to be patient. I advised Diva is a very picky dog and she will not just eat anything you give her no matter how hungry she gets. . We played phone tag back and forth for 2 additional days to talk to Dr Rowland with no results. Each time we call we had to talk to that rude receptionist (B). I tied to email Dr. Rowland and got no reply. Finally, after 4 days of being home from Rowland Animal Hospital, I took my dog to another doctor because she looked terrible. I just knew something wasn't right. She was skin and bones. They ran test costing $350,00 and I was told Diva didn't have pancreatitis. She had pyometra (infection of the Uterus) and she was severely anemic. I guess for not really eating for close to 2 weeks because of that Hill Science crap Rowland was pushing. We were advised our dog required emergency surgery to resolve the issue, but they didn't have the right equipment to perform the operation. I went home and I called many vets until I found one in Countryside IL. They immediately got Diva in for surgery the same day. There was concerned if our little dog would survive the operation because she was very weak and fragile due to being extremely anemic. I was heart broken and a basket case with worrying. I prayed and prayed Diva would l survive. This little dog has been my best friend for over 12 years; I love her deeply. Diva got through the operations but it has been a uphill battle getting her back on her feet.. . She is still on a ton of meds, but she is getting stronger especially since she can eat regular food without an issue. She doesn't have pancreatitis which we confirmed with her current doctor. All of this has been very nervous wrecking and costly experience of $4,000 to date for all the vet bills in Countryside, but they have been the best and very attentive to our concerns. They constantly call us (almost every other day) to check on Diva and to answer any questions we may have. I will never take my dogs to Rowland Animal Hospital again. I believe they mis-diagnosed our dog's problem which could have cost her little life. Thank you read more

Didn't understand what a caring compassionate vet actually was until I walked in here. Front the girls behind the counter to the Dr. himself they love your animal as much as they love theirs. We have taken our animals here for everything from a a scratch from rough housing to much to annual shots and even an emergency my dogs stomach doesn't look right visit. But it wasn't until today when we had to put down our dog that you understand the compassion and care. Everything was done to avoid this and sometimes your dog is to old and to sick to avoid the final outcome. But with 100% certainty I know everything was tried for Darwin and his final moments where playing ball in an exam room as best as he could and with a Vet that cares about him, a vet that HATES 4pm everyday when he does euthanasia and gave my wife all the time in the world with her dog to say good bye. Could he have saved $20 by going elsewhere I'm going to say yes we could have but it would never come to that. This vet has earned a place in our family as our Family's vet and we currently drive 45 mins to him I would drive 100 miles to keep going here if we even moved. We are newer to the area and have several pets. Based on reviews I read, we decided to try Dr. Rowland's clinic for a kitten we inherited. Dr. Rowland himself is wonderful, extremely charismatic and explains things to clients so that they make sense, instead of using lots of medical jargon. Up until recently we've had good experience with his staff as well, but unfortunately we had a run in with a not so friendly receptionist (or maybe a vet tech?). In all aspects of life, I find it uncomfortable and demeaning when someone tries to push an opinion on you and/or tries to guilt you in to doing something, especially when they don't understand the entire situation at hand. Regardless, we will be looking elsewhere for our pets care going forward which is shame because the vet himself was a joy. read more

I came here Friday on the recommendation of a friend. My kitty BeetleJuice needs a cyst removal and teeth cleaning. Dr Rowland is so kind and very honest and knowledgeable. I also appreciate his prices are reasonable. Last night my friends yorkie was injured in her eye. We messaged the doctor at almost midnight. He responded and we went in at 9am even though they're closed today. He was kind and even made us laugh in a very scary situation he calmed my friend down and was honest it's gonna be hard but hopefully her baby will recover and not loose her eye. I've been looking for years for a real vet who truly cares about the animals because they are our babies I'm switching Lola here too it's nice to have one vet for my cat & dog. read more

Doc Rowland is the most honest and friendliest vet I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He states the facts and doesn't make us think we have to give our dog any/all vaccinations you can think of just to make a quick buck. He is friendly, knowledgeable. Very caring clinic. Dr. Rowland explained that my dog had allergies. He was the only veterinarian that I know of that does a food allergy test. I am hopeful finally to get Aria on food that will alleviate what she endures from allergies, the bald spots, scratching her ears and licking her paws until they are red. We have been taking our dogs to Doc for probably around 7-8 years and they have always gone above and beyond to accomodate us. Even when we have to wait, it is worth it. We moved a few years ago from the Lockport area to Lagrange and we still make the trip to go to Doc. I have tried some vets closer to us and they always try to suggest stuff we don't need, and charge exorbitant prices. Doc is always honest with us and his prices are affordable for us. When my dogs need things done, I know they are in the best hands possible, the staff is so good with the animals and I feel completely comfortable leaving my animals in their care. This vet is really good! He's been taking care of my dog since he was a puppy! He had kennel cough he couldn't shake then, but Doc got him on the road to Good health quickly! He's been nothing but good to my dog over the years and is an excellent vet with alot of experience! He also won't waste your money with unnecessary testing ! Doc Rowland has been treating our pets for over 20 years. On 3/11 our 12 year old lab took a turn for the worse. Couldn't walk or stand. Fell down two steps off the back deck. DOC was always compassionate with our animals. I knew that it was time to end the dogs suffering but I just wanted Doc to look at him before we did that. I was told by his staff that he would not see him. We have referred many people to him. Maybe he has become too BIG to be passionate as he once was. Brought my 100lb Goldendoodle here with suspected obstruction from a previous vet. Failed to head this diagnose and after his set of X-rays thought It was constipation. Another day lapsed and it wasn't constipation. For a dog that hadn't eaten for 3 days no fluids were given. Operated late at night and things he said about the operation were suspected. Closed up shop and went home. Buddy died during the night. All his operations are done in the morning so he could observe afterwards. Ours was done at night with no one there. He dropped the ball on a couple key decision points and I have 5lbs of ashes to show for it. read more

I went to Rowland for a second opinion about a cyst on my 5 year old dog's back. The first vet I went to, Banfield, was going to charge $1200 for the surgery! They also told me that I would need to definitely get my dog's teeth cleaned as they were in terrible condition, which would be another huge cost. I loved Rowland as soon as I walked in the door. They were very friendly and Dr. Rowland was laid back, honest, funny, and caring. The cost was A LOT more reasonable than Banfield and he told me that my dog's teeth were one of the best sets he had ever seen for a 5 year old. I heard about Dr. Rowland from some family friends. My dog was having some issues related to her breed (Boston Terrier) and old age (11 years). We've been going to Dr. Rowland for almost 15 years. By far the best vet around! Dr. Rowland and his staff actually care for all their patients. The prices are extremely affordable and there is never an up sell on any service. My dog started having a blood clotting disorder, where I was bringing him into Dr. Rowland at least once a week doing blood work to try and figure out what was going on. He was very straight forward with all my options but ultimately Doc states what he would do. This means so much because he really does treat all his patients as if they are his pets. Most importantly Dr. Rowland and "the girls" go far beyond what is ever expected. January 2014 my Min Pin had to have surgery to remove a very cancerous spleen. After bringing her home from surgery she still wasn't acting herself. Rushed her back into Dr. Rowland's where she had to stay and unfortunately her kidneys were shutting down on her. My lil girl passed away 2 days later at the clinic. Of course I wish I was there for her, but I know she was being loved by some amazing people in her last hours. Dr Rowland is a great vet. I wish I would have found him sooner than I did. he is very honest, and knowledgeable about the ins and outs of symptoms and problems with my Dog. He is honest, and will actually recommend things that save you money, instead of ripping you off, or shoving un-needed stuff down your animals throat like alot of other vets will do. I have two dogs that go here. One is 8, the other is 2. Every time we go for checkup or shots that are "included" in the plan, we walk out paying no less than $50! Always an upgrade suggested "for our pets' well being"? The last draw was when I called 5-10 minutes before closing and my dog ingested something, I asked to come in quickly because I live near. The answer was to take her to emergency care. They really showed my dogs best interest? I would warn all to enroll in pet plans there. It isn't the savings you expect when they nickel and dime you every "included" visit. One star is a stretch! read more

We met Dr Rowland approx 20 years ago after being told by another Vet that our cat at that time had a fatty tumor on his side, but it continued to get larger. We met Dr Rowland who was working for another vets office at that time...he tested our cat and it was cancer. We had the cancer cut out of our cat twice before the cat had to be put down because of the quality of his life. DR Rowland put our cat down without charge because we had paid twice for surgery...most people would not have done that according to him. He told us to go home and bury our pet. It was that care and conscientiousness that was shown by Doc that he is our Vet forever. He will always tell you the best way to take care of your pet for the least amount of money. He has sent us to the health food store to buy vitamin C tabs for our lab puppy instead of selling us puppy vitamins because that was really what our pup needed. He will not jack up your bill to pay his home mortgage. He is a decent, caring Dr that is not afraid of getting hair on his clothes, he will pick your pet up and get to know it. Today, I had to take my beloved cat in to his office for exploratory surgery to find out why he was been vomiting so much. It turns out that our Bear had cancer everywhere. WE decided to have him put down so that he did not go through a lot of pain and suffering. It was very hard, and Doc said that it was the right thing to do. He truly was sorry for the loss that he knew we were feeling. You can trust this Dr...he knows his stuff, and he wont steer you wrong to pad the bill.
