I've had catering from Roxy's Tacos at nearly a dozen events now and figured it was high time I wrote a review. Their street tacos are excellent! A plate of 3 tacos (pollo, carne asada, and carnitas) plus rice and beans is a perfect amount of food - filling but not oversized. Add the tasty salsa and a cup or horchata, and you're in for a perfect meal! I look forward to events that I know Roxy's is going to be at. Seriously, this is some tasty food and friendly service from a family-owned local business. If I ever get married, I want to hire them for a late-night taco stand, or maybe even for the main meal tbh. In the meantime, I'll keep recommending them to others and maybe stop by their brick and mortar location sometime! read more

This was our first stop on our Taco Crawl, and it set the bar high. Eliza greeted us as soon as we walked in. She was incredibly friendly and helped us navigate the menu. While we waited for our order, we mentioned that we were doing a Taco Crawl, and she immediately offered recommendations and even had the owner come out to share his favorites. (Check out my other reviews for the rest of the crawl.) The restaurant is small, with a few seats inside and additional tables outside along the sidewalk. There's also a small cooler with drinks. We ordered a carne asada taco so we could compare the same taco at every stop. This one was excellent and our favorite. The taco had flavorful meat with just the right amount of cilantro, onion, and green sauce. They also offer three different hot sauces, all family recipes, and each one was delicious. Eliza mentioned that her favorite meat is the carnitas, and even though we didn't order it, she brought out a small sample for us to try. Wow. The carnitas were incredible--honestly even better than the carne asada. When we're back in San Diego, we'll definitely return to Roxy's. It's a must‑stop spot for anyone craving great tacos. read more

I got a steak breakfast burrito. I was impressed even though it's a simple item. It was quite hot when I got it, which I love. The steak was tender and juicy and had some peppery seasoning that was scrumptious. The egg was fluffy. The wrap was very solid, stayed intact and nothing dripping out the bottom even with all the juices. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the inside. For the salsa, they give you the whole bottle rather than a little cup. The green salsa was more than just green liquid and had a lot of flavor in it. The only negative thing I can think of might be the location. It does have a lot of the.....characteristics of a downtown location, including nearby construction and parking probably isn't the most convenient. read more

Came here for some tacos and we were in luck because they have previous tacos only on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. Tacos were five dollars each. Decent size tacos, slightly bigger than a street taco. The service was quick. The staff was friendly. There are seating outside. read more

Ya know. If my sister hadn't found this place helplessly searching for tacos while we were walking downtown at night, we would not have gone. I don't believe this place has ever popped up as a recommended place in my Yelp searches and I'm never really in this part of downtown to have seen it. It's so easy to miss...BUT DEF WORTH THE STOP!! I can't remember my guy's name but he was such a gem. Greeted us with a smile. Jokes. His favorites on the menu. We got all the tacos. Fish, carne asada, and quesabirria tacos. All delicious. I have been a fan of Roxy's for a while. Their two main items I enjoyed was the 'Destroyer' and the Buffalo Chicken Fries. It has been while since I could get there, but I tried them both again recently and sadly was underwhelmed. Both have been changed, I assume because of prices. The chicken on the fries seems more like ground chicken now, instead of the chunks it had before and just feels less. The Destroyer my favorite burrito, used to have chunks of beef, fries and whatever else could fit in it. It has been changed to shredded beef, and beans to make it heftier. Not a fan of the beans addition at all. It also makes it fall apart a lot easier, almost a wet burrito.. It is a shame, because the owner is genuinely nice and personable, but the changes are too much to overlook. read more

I was visiting San Diego with a friend for the weekend and Roxy's tacos was recommended! The gentleman at the counter answered every single one of our questions. The food came out in a very timely manner, it is pretty straightforward when it comes to presentation and vibes. The city has a lot of unhoused people, so if you are not picking up and going to your own place, the outside sitting area is very clean and has fun, lighting, but you will see and hear a lot of extra noise. read more

This place was so delicious! We ordered the carnitas, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito & the bean and cheese burrito. both were absolutely HUGE!! service was quick & the server was super friendly, helpful, and patient while we were making our order. Prices were on-par with what would be expected in downtown San Diego, and for the amount of food you get-- definitely worth it!! Shout out to Omar! Love how enthusiastic and accommodating he was when we walked in. Great customer service and such a warm personality! My spouse and I were craving California burritos and have tried many places, but Roxy's is by far the best one yet. The food didn't feel rushed, and the quality really showed. The burritos came out beautifully constructed- great flavor, nicely seasoned meat, and an excellent tortilla wrap. Everything inside was perfectly balanced, not greasy at all, and every bite was full of flavor. The ambiance is exactly the kind of spot that makes a neighborhood feel like home. It's casual, welcoming, and full of character. It's the kind of place the locals know about but don't always share. After a long day at Balboa Park I was craving tacos. San Diego has such authentic Mexican food. I stumbled upon Roxy's on Google. When we got there it was a cute small shop. The server was the owner and there was one cook. I ordered the three tacos and my partner ordered the burrito. I swear we didn't talk for the whole meal because we were so enthralled with our food. I wanted some hot sauce for my tacos and there were three options. A green mild one, one red medium and one red hot one. The owner told me his favorite and said that the hot one was spicy. It was my favorite of the three. Not too spicy where it was the dominate flavor but it was just enough to give my tacos a kick. He was very nice and sparked conversations with the customers. This catering company really stood out. The setup was extremely clean with a modern gray aesthetic that felt elevated and just really well put together. Definitely not your average taco catering. The food was fresh and you can tell it was quality. The tortillas were not the typical store ones, they tasted fresh and made a big difference. The Mexican rice and beans were both delicious. Mexican rice is usually hit or miss at taco spots but theirs was actually flavorful and cooked right. They also had chips and different sauces with a nice level of spice and flavor, which you don't always see with taco catering. It was just overall a step above. What really made it for me was the owners. They were engaging, in a good mood, and you can tell they enjoy what they do. To me that matters because food hits different when it's made with good energy. I would definitely recommend them if you want something better than the usual taco catering experience. read more

Last Sunday our church held a class right after service and offered the attendees tacos for lunch. It was catered by Roxys Tacos and the street tacos (chicken, pork adovada, carne asada) were delicious. Love the tortillas and tortilla chips (tasted like the tortillas but fried). My wife and I come here ALL the time . The food is always perfect whether it's breakfast lunch or dinner. We always get served by the same girl who's always so nice and patient even though we always end up ordering the same items. We've met one of the owners a few times too and you can feel the passion he has with his restaurant through his interactions with customers. Kind of strange location but it ended up being really good. We parked on the street, which wasn't honestly the greatest part of downtown, but you have to walk around the side of the building to find the façade right next to the trolley. Really cute patio space with several tables, unfortunately it was pretty chilly so we decided to eat inside where there is enough space for maybe five or six people to eat at the counter. They had the television on with the children's show and it was super loud. There was also loud music that we could hear from the Patio so it was a bit overstimulating. The gentleman working told us that the burritos were in his opinion the best thing there. He was not lying, my shrimp burrito was fantastic! It wasn't the biggest burrito I've ever had, but that tortilla was delicious and toasted just right. The shrimp was so juicy and cooked, absolutely perfectly, not overcooked at all, which is common. The salsas were really good too. The burritos were a couple dollars more than they usually are in other parts of town, but hey, these are downtown prices. If you want to pay less, you've gotta go somewhere else. Nice to know there's a decent taco shop in that area! read more

I rarely feel super compelled to write reviews, but this was easily some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, especially as someone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico. The owner was awesome and so friendly; he told me that he gets his ingredients from Tijuana and you can taste the authentic difference 1000%. It's a family run business and you can truly see and taste how much love and care they put into the food. The michelada and custom potato burrito that I had were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Super flavorful, rich but clean, and delicious food. The fluffy tortillas they use and the breakfast potatoes just melt in your mouth. The salsas are also absolute fire! I'm vegan and I really appreciated the owner letting me know that they don't have vegetarian beans, so I did my burrito without beans and didn't miss them at all. Also so happy that they made sure my burrito, with limited ingredients, was still huge! Not at all like most places that will overcharge you for a veggie burrito and then it comes out tiny. If I lived here I would be here constantly, but I already can't wait to return! Do yourself and your taste buds a favor, don't even think about it, if you love good Mexican food just GO! read more

After visiting SD several times over the years, I've come to accept that it is tricky to find solid tacos for less than $4-5. This place was quite a bit off the beaten path (code word: not the best part of town). Staff were friendly and ambience was nice, with nice outdoor patio seating, although the view is the light rail and very interesting characters walking by frequently. The tacos were delicious and good portion- although total for two tacos (fried fish and adobada) came out to $14+. read more

Paid Street parking, a bit of a hidden gem downtown. The shrimp burrito was definitely really large and worthy of the price. All menu prices are shown in cash so don't be surprised about a credit card up charge. Burrito came with an option of two sauces, a white crema or the chipotle sauce. The chipotle sauce came recommended by the server for a bit of a kick. Each burrito has different fillings, for example the shrimp burrito did not have guac, but the carne asada one did. You cannot substitute any of the ingredients in the burrito. Additionally, I had asked for no cheese but there was still cheese, which I wasn't entirely pleased about but it happens. If you have serious dietary restrictions, just make sure you're adamant about not having a certain ingredient. Not the best neighborhood spot to sit and eat unfortunately, but definitely a good spot to go to for a takeout! Outdoor and indoor seating. read more

The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)

Hello, I'm a resident that lives very close to this establishment, and on Saturday 8th, 2021, this taco shop hired a D.J. to play music at their outdoor patio. The music was so unbelievably LOUD, that several residents from our complex complained about the noise. Their music was so loud, and SOO obnoxious, and it continued to play for nearly four hours. I entered into the establishment at around 8:00p.m. After informing the cashier that the music was disturbing the local residents (my self included), I was told to "Get-the-Fuck-Out-of-Here", because I forgot my face mask. ( I had one in my pocket, but chose not to wear it cause no other customers were). I was rudely escorted out by a teenager who came out from behind the counter. I shouted several times to lower the volume, only to be repeatedly told to "Get the fuck out". These owners are rude, disrespectful, arrogant , and feel they are entitled to do anything. Just look at the number of health violations they had in the past year, (7 health violations Feb.2020) Don't give these jerks your $$$!!!! read more

During our brief three-day stay in San Diego, we stumbled upon this gem right after landing, and now I'm contemplating how we can squeeze in one more visit before leaving! Despite being a small establishment with only outdoor seating and no restroom, it's worth noting that we initially had some difficulty finding parking. The salsas were very disappointing... just not much flavor to them... both the red and the green. The cashier was super friendly, bilingual in Spanish and English, and really helped me decide what to get. I ended up with the protein bowl--it was bomb!
