I always come here for anything and always suggest to friends and family, they're reasonable in prices and time! I recently had my motorcycle inspected here and it took no more than 10 minutes but that's because we talked about my bike for a few minutes. Not only that I have had all my cars worked on here since I was a teenager. Ive tried other shops and it felt like they took 10x longer than Roy muffler so now I will always be a loyal customer. By 730 the next morning, the job was completed and ended up costing way less than I thought it would. My go to place to get work done for all the cars my family uses. You can call and find out if they are going to be busy, and drop it off on a day and time that work for you . They actually do call you when your car is ready which I've found a lot of places don't follow up. Never had an issue really. I was supposed to get a door handle installed once, and the parts didn't come in, but they called me a day ahead and rescheduled. The waiting room is very clean. read more

I had backed my exhaust into a boulder at Pony Pasture and the entire exhaust was rattling to high heaven. (The pipe was making contact with the rear differential under the car) I bring it into Roy's without an appointment and let them know what happened, they tell me to come back in an hour. I come back expecting to be leaving my car there for a few days and dropping a bunch of money. The guy at the front says 'give me the keys, it should only take me a minute.' I watch as he rolls the car right onto the lift, pulls out his torch and bends the pipe back in to place, then he tells me it was such a simple, quick repair so he's not gonna even charge me anything. I installed a cat-back exhaust system and needed a couple of spots welded. Called to see if they could do it and they set up an appointment for that afternoon. They were done in 1/2 hour and I'm happy with the results and the very fair price. This was not a big job for them, but they were very accommodating. You don't experience that very much these days. Very deceitful pricing. Carl the front desk associate called me and told me that my T100 required $815 worth of exhaust work. I asked him multiple times if the total price of the repair is $815. We agreed on the price over the phone. He assured me it was $815. When I go and pick up my vehicle, the bill came to be $882. This is my first time reviewing ANYTHING...BUT I JUST HAD TO REVIEW ROY HENDRIX MUFFLER SHOP! Okay so I went to Toyota and they told me that I had a hole in my muffler and that it would be $1k to replace (LUCKILY the guy referred me to Roy Hendrix!) I called and Roy picked up and he told me it would be $345. I decided to book an appointment and turns out I didn't need the entire thing replaced so I was only charged $45 for them to fix it! As a YOUNG FEMALE -- I was VERY pleased with the overall service, Roy's pleasant attitude and willingness to help and NOT upcharge...I most definitely will recommend and refer ppl here! I was referred here strangely enough by the West Broad Honda Dealership when my muffler was hanging on by one hook. They were mentioned as a cheaper option than waiting two days for new parts (a new muffler) and spending $500 on the conservative side. When i came in at 1pm on Monday the front desk guy took a look at it and said i should be fine to make it home and back in the morning for an appointment. I was able to safely make it back. This place saved me from having to spend close to $400. One day the exhaust on my Toyota 4Runner started sounding like a Sons of Anarchy motorcycle soundtrack. My brother offered to fix it for free if I would purchase the parts. Well, I was shocked to discover that the parts were going to run me close to $400 and some places didn't even have them in stock. Depressed, I went to Advance Auto on Broad (which actually had the parts) and Joe recommended Roy Hendrick's right down the street (or Road as it were). I was told that they would replace and install everything for about $250. Well, that sounded great to me and as an added bonus, they said they could take me in right away. Well, the muffler guy came out and said one of my bolts on the catalytic converter had blown out and he could replace it for $45. Yay. It is so great to realize that there are still honest mechanics in this day and age and I wasn't taken advantage of even though I'm a woman. They also do regular mechanic work, so I know where I'll be taking my friend when she needs tender, loving care! read more

I have been going to the Horsepen shop for 11+ years. These guys do outstanding work and are professional and very fairly priced. I first went there when a Chevy Dealer wanted over $1,000 for an emissions problem (catalytic converter and replacing the entire assembly). I was not happy but the service rep suggested that I try The Muffler Shop since they might be able to fix the failed area rather than replace the entire. The Muffler Shop was able to get me in quickly and took care of the problem and at a price of $225. A huge savings. A year later the other side went bad and they again jumped right on it, repaired only what was required and at a very very fair price. I have gone to them for all of our car needs since. They do outstanding overall mechanical work and never try to up-sell or take advantage. I strongly recommend them and sincerely appreciate all of the great work they have done for me. read more

Sexist and unprofessional. Had an appointment scheduled one week in advance and kept me waiting 20 min beyond the appointment time. They had no other customers. When I inquired about this and explained that I am a working mother and physician with a busy schedule who needs to go to work, the male employee in the office seemed irritated and said the mechanic is probably "taking a smoke break." Meanwhile, another customer pulled in unscheduled asking for assistance and this same male employee promptly helped the customer and I was kept waiting. When I said if a mechanic isn't able to look at my vehicle in the next 5 min I will need to leave, this employee said, "I'll get your keys." The mechanic suddenly appeared, gave me my keys, and promptly moved on to another customer's car. Also, in the small, seemingly poorly ventilated office, the male employee and three customers (who had been finishing up) were not wearing masks. read more

I originally looked up the best rated muffler shops in RVA and called a few and Roy's was the place that informed me the most as well as, was the most personable place that I spoke to. I wanted a custom exhaust and didn't have too much knowledge about it especially with my model of car. I ended up stopping by after work one day so they could take a look at it, we went over options and weighed them all out. The gentleman who evaluated my car was beyond helpful and super personable and looked out for the most bang for buck. I made an appointment to get a straight pipe for a few days later. I came to my appointment and it took less than 30 minutes. After it was done the gentleman told me that it sounded better than he expected. I was super excited and to my surprise it sounded great for what model my car was. Overall they are super attentive, informative, personable and its like getting the work done by family how honest they were about everything. Also! He even let me keep my muffler just incase I didn't like how it turned out and offered to put it back on if I did decide to do so. 10/10! These guys are Great! My muffler had snapped and was dangling under my car for a couple weeks. I had called around to many different shops, and the average price I was quoted was over $450. These guys took me right away, cracked me up in the lobby as a technician brought my car into the shop for diagnostics. He popped into the lobby about 3 minutes later and let me know they'd have it fixed in about 15 minutes. The total cost was $75!!! These guys are honest, hilarious, and efficient. I would highly recommend using them over the larger muffler shop chains. It just feels good to know your car is being cared for properly and that your money is going to an honest small business rather than a big national chain. read more

Excellent place. My car died while on the road and I literally picked this place because it was walking distance from my house. So glad I did too all things considered. This happened 3:40 on a Friday (the worst time), but they were fine with me getting my vehicle towed over and stored after hours over the weekend. On Monday, I got the news. Apparently a different shop who shall remain unmentioned forgot to put oil back into my vehicle while doing an oil change. Yeah, lets just say this is a mess that will take some time to sort out. They were very understanding and have allowed my car to stay in place for a few extra days while I sort things out. Rare to find a mechanic not out to scalp you for an extra buck. Definitely going to use these guys in the future. Finding a mechanic you can trust is hard, and it seems the silver lining of my particular mess is finding this spot. read more
