Wonderful trip down memory lane. I have to admit, I have not been to a Roy Rogers in 20 plus years. With Roy's making a come back in the area, I had to to be greedy and have a RR BURGER (double R) with a couple of pieces of the delicious fried chicken. Add in the Fixens Bar (everything was fresh) and I was in Roy Rogers heaven. Will be visiting again soon for another RR Burger and Fried Chicken. read more

Being in the Springfield area on business and ready to head back to Woodbridge, since it was 5pm, decided to avoid traffic and head to Roy's which was not far away...Having frequented this location many times, I was relieved to return and expected the same high quality chicken as in the past...BOY, was I in for a surprise....Arriving around 5pm I ordered my favorite, just a breast and a thigh with a biscuit...To my surprise I was informed that there were no breasts available and that it would take 15 minutes for another one. My mind is now racing wondering why the manager or SOMEONE didn't have brains enough to start cooking at least one breast when they were down to just ONE!!! Instead of waiting 15 min. I opted to get 2 thighs and a wing instead. As I have posted from visiting other locations, the chicken now consists of mostly crispy batter and very little chicken after you have chewed your way thru. This now seems to be the norm at all locations and now this one is no exception. Being a senior citizen now in my 70's I remember well going to the movies on a Saturday afternoon and seeing those Roy Rogers movies in the early to mid 50-'s, followed by his tv shows in later years and he always closed by singing, "Happy trails to you, until we meet again."...WELL, Roy, I'm afraid I have come to the end of the trail as far as ordering chicken from you...I will stick to ordering either the roast beef, slathered with that creamy horse radish or a double R bar burger if they are still available...I'm sure Roy never downgraded the quality of hay he fed his horse(Trigger), so I'm puzzled as to why the quality of his chicken has ended up this way to me and his other loyal customers... Growing up, my favorite cowboy was always THE LONE RANGER because he never sang, so now when I depart after consuming a Roy Rogers meal, I will definitely shout, "Hi-Yo-Silver" in deference to my true hero. Okay since you can't give zero Stars you get one star. Apparently this location does not allow service animals in their building. Management here in the store brought the food to the table with a carry-out bag and started on about animals not allowed in the store pet snow will be in allowed and when I asked her to repeat herself because her English was extremely poor she just kept on saying no dog no dog. When offering her card that states the federal laws she didn't want to take it she refused to take it. Instead she just kept on walking. So I went up to the counter and put it down on the counter. I turned and as I'm walking away I heard somebody behind me say you don't need to be so rude about it. And of course it is a franchise so the franchise owner is letting this happen in his restaurants. read more

Before turning over a healthier leaf, my family was here every weekend for breakfast - four egg platters with bacon. The food is always delicious, the employees are kind, and it's always clean. The pride that the folks who work here take is obvious. If you come late at night, it's always busy, with a basketball game or baseball game on the television. I'm not big on fast food, but I enjoy a Roy Rogers burger every now and then. Probably my favourite fast food place for burgers. JUDGEMENT FREE ZONE: The thing I like the most is how you add your own toppings and fixings. You can add just the right amount of mayo, ketchup, onions, etc and no one will judge you! I love the Roy Rogers sauce, it has a unique, smokey taste and you can dip your fries in it and enjoy! Their buns are always fresh and tender and the burger is always juicy. I had just finished up shopping in Kingstowne last Friday when I realized that I had not eaten lunch yet. I thought hmm, Roy Rogers sounds pretty good right now. It has been a while since my last visit, so I wasn't sure on what to get. I decided to go with the regular roast beef sandwich combo. I was delighted to see that you can now get your sandwich on a multigrain roll - because it totally makes the sandwich better for you =) My favorite part about Roy Rogers is their fixin's bar, which has: lettuce, tomato, white onion, red onion, pickles, jalapenos, and condiments (ketcup, mustard, horseradish, bbq sauce). You can put on as much or as little as you like. I like to load up on pickles =) As for the sandwich, the roast beef was juicy and delicious. The fries, however, were a little too mushy for me. I think the next time I go to Roy Rogers, I'll pick up some fries next door at Boardwalk Fries. read more

I didn't know there were still Roy Rogers restaurants around! How did I live without their Bacon Cheeseburgers for so long? After my first nostalgic visit I returned with my kids and explained that this is my favorite fast food restaurant. For a fast food joint this place is amazing. It was much cleaner than other locations I used to visit.The food was quickly prepared and the cashiers were able to move through the line quickly. I would definitely recommend the grilled chicken sandwich, wrap, baked apples and potatoes. Omgh I wish I could go back there now, but it's only 7am and their not open for lunch yet :( read more

I actually came in here on Mother's Day with my mom for lunch, as it's one of her favorite restaurants. The food is amazing, as usual. I got the Large Roast Beef Combo and when you go to the Fixin's Bar, make sure to load up on all of the fresh vegetables and sauces. This still continues to be one of the only places with Roast Beef that isn't like eating a tire. Since it was Mother's Day, they do a special deal where moms eat free. The employees were very sweet about that. My mom got the usual Cheeseburger loaded up with toppings. For dessert (it's Mother's Day don't judge me), I got the Strawberry Shortcake, which was made with their delicious biscuits and Hershey's Ice Cream. My mom got the Hot Fudge Sundae, only the fudge wasn't hot, but nonetheless was still good. I will always continue to come here for the BEST fast food in the DC Metro Area. #165 One of my best buddies flies into town and where does he want to go first? Roy Rogers Flashback more than 15 years ago, we were 8th graders on a field trip to DC and had Roy Rogers for the first time. It was an eye-opening experience. The combination chicken tender baskets and fries. The famous Roy Rogers sauces. We couldn't get enough of Roy Rogers, and when we got back to California, all we could both think about was Roy Rogers. After punching in for the nearest Roy Rogers, we were off. The drive, parking, jumping out of the car was all a blur. The chicken tenders basket and fries...still there!!! We ordered our food and lifted the wrappers off our hamburgers. The steam from the beef immediately raced to our nostrils...our olfactory senses were stimulated... blood racing... here we were, more than 15 years later. We're back Roy Rogers. I go to this Roy Rogers a few times a year (usually for breakfast). It's a little out of my way, but when in the mood for a fast-food breakfast, there's no better choice. I try to avoid mentioning other establishments in my reviews, but in this case, I believe the best way to describe Roy's is to compare it with "McKing". Compared to "McKing", this Roy Rogers.... (1) Has much fresher food. (2) Has more menu diversity (but avoids gimmicky burgers that McKing seems to like) (3) Has a more friendly and professional staff. (4) Is much cleaner. Roy's is still a fast food place, so don't expect the world, but when you're in a hurry and in the area, you can't go wrong. read more

Counter workers show utter contempt for the customer, getting the (simple) orders wrong, and then arguing about it, being rude and insulting, and ultimately refusing to get a manager. All I wanted was a Lg Roast Beef and Cheese and a Large Drink like I always get. UNACCEPTABLE ATTITUDES. I was entirely polite until the very end when I balled up my messed-up order receipt, tossed it at the counter, and walked out. (Yes this tantrum cost me $10 for nothing). Gets crowded and parking is tight since this is a popular shopping strip. Still have the traditional fixin bar. You can get salad or baked potato instead of fries for your side. Roast beef was dry, as well as the chicken. The fixin bar helps any sandwich! Tables were dirty. read more

Roy's has always been my favorite fast food place. There used to be a few of these restaurants in Springfield but they have long been replaced by McDonald's. I've always been very appreciative of the Roy's at this location and I hope they are here to stay for a long time. The Gold Rush chicken sandwich is a personal favorite of mine and is always delicious. The fixings bar, as others have alluded to, has everything you would want for your sandwich. The food is always fresh, delicious, and is always fast out of the kitchen. Their cheeseburgers/bacon cheeseburgers are very good as well. Pair them with a side of fries, or if you aren't in the mood for those, a baked potato, macaroni, apples, baked beans, or a side salad should do the trick. The staff has always been courteous and helpful when called upon. read more

The burgers and roast beef are good enough, and with being able to top them yourself from the fix'm bar, well... If you go wrong, it's your own fault. You own it to yourself to try the fried chicken!!! This store was recently remodeled and it looks all fresh and clean. Location is not the best, but you can usually park easily. I've eaten here several times. I love this place, but live a distance away which keeps me from eating here more often. I would give a 5* if the roast beef temperature was consistent. I love it when it's above room temperature, but that doesn't happen very often. Normally it's cold and I just eat it. Once I complained at a different Roy's, they replaced it with a new, hot sandwich. The new sandwich was hot but was tasteless because they steamed all of the flavor out of it. read more

I've been a Roy Rogers customer since the 1970s, but lately, the quality has diminished to the point that I can't say I'm coming back. The food is consistently over cooked. The chicken (used to be my favorite) is generally dry and the batter is so hard it's inedible. It can only be described as "chip worthy", as in it seems like you could chip a tooth on it. Tonight I got a roast beef sandwich that was so dry I couldn't eat it. These sandwiches used to be rare and juicy. While I understand under cooked food can be a concern for some, "safe" doesn't have to be dried out shoe leather. I hope this is a training issue that can be resolved. The quality and cooking issues began after the Todd family sold the franchise and has gotten steadily worse over time. read more

First visit. $6.39 for a chicken sandwich plus with two regular side brought the total to $12.05. No drink. That's ridiculous!! There is too many less expensive options available within 1-2 miles. This Roy rogers recently re-vamped the inside and the flow is much better. Unfortunately I dont think the food or service got better with the change. The food is good for fast food, but if they want more people in the door they need to make sure everything comes out super hot. My fries were warm, but not HOT. The Mac in Cheese though is absolutely DISGUSTING!!! It literally looks like white soup with noodles. Its not creamy, but literally like white liquid in a bowl with noodles. Please for the love of god either change the recipe or take it off the darn menu. Ending on a good note though the fried chicken and burgers are pretty good. read more

They have a special on groupon. I used mines for burgers and fried chicken. It was like going back to my childhood. The salad bar was awesome. When I was a kid I avoided it like the plague but now I stuffed my burger with all the fixings. So fresh and yummy. The beef patty itself was juicy yet firm and substantial. If I could give this a lower review I would there French fries cold soggy and unseasoned they for got my stuff in my meal and they are rude if I could give them a 0 I would. I think their burgers are better than McD's and Wendy's. And which other fast food place has a fixins bar. Usually, when I'm driving up to NY, I'll make an effort to stop at Roy Rogers at the rest stops. Otherwise, this location is the closest one to me. read more

The manager was walking around asking diners if everything was okay with their meal and if they needed anything. When was the last time you got that at a fast food place? Also, there is ALWAYS someone cleaning the floors and tables here. In addition to burgers and chicken, they have warm roast beef sandwiches and entree salads. If you don't want fries, there are side options like fresh fruit, baked potatoes, baked apples, salad, cole slaw, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. There is also a DIY toppings bar for the sandwiches and salads, which includes options like red onions, salsa, peppers, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and lots of sauce options. Definitely more options than most fast food spots or Subway for someone with dietary restrictions or trying to eat somewhat healthy, and a good place to bring picky (and not-picky) kids. read more

I love this place for their burgers. I can put my own fixings on it. But what I like more is the absolutely fantastic service. I made the mistake of going to the burger joint on the corner and once, I placed my order and waited for my food to be prepared. As I looked at the ticket, I noticed they had overcharged me. When I asked about it, I was told that I did not ask for the special, I had ordered all 3 separately and did not ask for the special. On the second and last occasion, I had to get the attention of the person behind the counter because he was too busy texting on his cell phone. At Roy Rogers I have NEVER been ignored. No one is ever too busy to help or offer suggestions. Even when the place is very busy, the food has come out fast, hot and consistently good. The fixings bar is always well stocked and the place is always clean, I will definitely keep coming here. read more

I went today and We (as in my mom and I) got ice cream after eating and dude (who was young and african American, but I didn't get his name) was in a Nasty mood then he forgot to give me my spoon so I went to look for one I came back and my mom said that dude had thrown the spoon on the tray from like 2 feet from our table. He didn't even say anything afterwards. Then we were watching him and dude was like laying all up on the counter behind the registers. Like dude, could you care less?
