This placed is underrated. If you stop in for Fried Chicken, you'll find a tasty treat. The cole slaw was OK. Baked beans and bisquits were tasty. The staff was cheerful, helpful and busy and yes, understaffed. This place comes across as a bit divey but don't let that deter you. You might enjoy a visit if you like their core offerings. Roy Rogers has always served some of the best formula Fried Chicken in a chain restaurant format and we're glad to see this place in operation. News reports indicate the conglomerate that owns the franchise is planning an expansion. We hope this will occur. I did the drive thru today with my fingers crossed. A #9 combo of tenders and a drink and then signature double r bar burger. The wait was about a 10 minutes in the car parked by the flagpole. Roy Rogers is our go to fast food. I prefer diners EXCEPT when it comes to a Roys Roast Beef Sandwich. My husband and I have it down, although his sandwich can vary. We get two regular roast beef sandwiches, one being a meal. With the meal we get the holster of fries and a chocolate milkshake. We split the fries and I get the last quarter of the shake for dessert. The fixens bar is the best of any fast food restaurant. This location had some pretty primo pickles this time. In addition to the pickles, there is lettuce, tomato, onions, and an assortment of peppers. Sometimes a makeshift salad is in order. This location had some very friendly women working behind the counter and keeping it clean and well stocked out front. We have been before and will return again! read more

This Roy Rogers has gone downhill. We used to enjoy eating here but this last the food was horrible. The chocolate milkshake was like drinking chocolate milk. Traveling with my 85 year old mother from NC back to where she is from Maryland! We stopped at Roy Rogers drive thru . We order a small roast beef, Diet Coke and onion rings! After we pulled back on the road ( 30 seconds) my mom said her onion rings were not warm! Well sometimes I doubt things, so I said hand me one! They weren't even warm, not even a tiny bit and the sandwich was not warm either ! I mean not even slightly warm ! My mom said she would never go back to Roy Rogers again ! No I am gonna be honest the service her sucks and takes forever but when they get your order right and there quick that is some damn good chicken and when it's cooked right it's very good same for fries. Overall ambiance feels just like any Roy Rodger's just a fast food restaurant. I would say a 3/5 stars because the good, the bad, and the average all balance each other out. read more

This was our very first and only time we'll go here. I'll start by acknowledging that the staff was very courteous. The food was horrible. 3 different meals: spicy chicken sandwich was dry. Opted for the mac and cheese as a side. It looked like it was 6 days old. Not even cheesy yellow or white as shown on the menu. It was red-ish and crusty like it was days old and had been reheated multiple times. The gold rush chicken sandwich was just as bad as the spicy. Dry meat and bacon and poor taste. Fries were ordered as a side (I'll describe these later). Finally was the bacon cheeseburger. The beef patty was so dry and overcooked. The bacon was so overcooked it wasn't enjoyable. The cheese looked and tasted like it had been sitting on the bun and had literally adhered to the bun...not melted to it, like it was baked/cooked/dried on the bun. 2 meals were ordered with fries. The fries were cold, unsalted, not cooked through (soggy), a ton of oil, and the boxes they came in weren't even filled...they were half filled for both orders. Being our first time ever going, unimpressed would be a positive. This was worse than unimpressed. It was embarrassing for the management and ownership of the business for food quality overall. Great service, and the food was what you'd expect from an RR location. Staff were friendly and nice. They were patient with people who were taking awhile to order, too. Nothing wrong with the interior of the store - seemed clean and nothing broken. They had paper for you to use to grip the tongs on the fixins bar so you don't have to touch them with your hand. I'm not sure how useful that is with an airborne virus, but meh, it was a nice thought. 1/4 cheesburger and fries were where it was at. I scarfed both down asap. read more

Walked in the door with my entire family, which probably would've been close to a $60 or more check, after a hard day of laboring, clearing property in MD and heading home to VA. Dude told us to put a mask on once we got in line - despite everyone eating not having to wear one, obviously, because ya know, nothing is catchable or contagious when you're sitting, - so we all just said "nope!" at the exact same time and walked out. I am a fan of Roy Rogers, which is one of my favorite fast food places to stop at. There used to be more locations in the northeast back in the day. However, this chain has shrunk and many Roy Rogers restaurants are located at toll road service plazas, which are not great because most of the food is sitting in the self serve heat bins for a long time, not fresh food and high toll road pricing too. This Roy Rogers location is a typical standalone fast food restaurant with drive thru. This place is not 24 hours, but they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner serving up breakfast sandwiches, platters, cinnamon rolls, burgers, sandwiches (chicken, pulled pork), fried chicken, salads, hot & cold side dishes, desserts, and more. They offer breakfast & lunch/dinner combo deals with drink (coffee or soft drink) here at fair prices. Also, the fixins bar is stocked with fresh toppings & sauces for your sandwiches & food. While traveling along US 301, I stopped at the La Plata Roy Rogers for breakfast recently. I ordered the Western Platter Combo with Small Coffee ($4.49 plus tax), which came out hot very quickly, even before I had the chance to fill my coffee cup at the self serve drink station. The platter had just enough food to satisfy my appetite, which had a split biscuit topped with a hot cream gravy & chipped ham, a soft scrambled egg, and fresh cut fried potatoes on the side. I topped my food with sweet tomato salsa from the fixins bar, yummy! I was going also get a pulled pork sandwich for the road (they were also serving lunch items too), but I had enough to eat. Overall, this Roy Rogers location is a step up from the other locations (service plazas) along toll roads since the food here is made fresh and the prices here are fair. read more

I purchased a Gold Rush chicken sandwich and was disappointed in the chicken. It was a pressed chicken patty instead of a chicken breast. They have better Fried Chicken than any Fried Chicken place, plus something Fried Chicken places don't have: Chocolate Shakes. Then, of course, there's the burgers and the fresh fixin's in the Fixin's Bar. It's not exactly worth the trip to La Plata, but it's close. It truly saddens me to write about negative interactions with local businesses. But, I feel honesty may cause some changes at this location. The customer service and quantity of food has gone in the gutter. Even small things like not being able to understand a person taking your order at the drive through is extremely frustrating. I have had good service here before, but it seems that it is going downhill. Yesterday I was returning from the Richmond area, and decided to stop in for a late lunch. First the good things. The young man who took my order was friendly, polite and efficient. My food came up quickly, I was still filling my soda when they called my name. Now for the failures The fries were room temperature. The clerk who put them in the bag should have noticed the lack of heat, and made fresh hot fries, but instead decided it was easier to just give me what was sitting there. I asked for a manager, and he seemed to think that making a new batch of fries was all that was needed, other than a half hearted apology. When I told him I was not happy, he just looked at me and asked "What do you want me to do?" I told him that he could just give me a refund, and to expect a complaint about his attitude. His response was that the phone number for the corporate office was on the yellow cards in the dining room. Serving me cold food was bad, The attitude that my time was not valuable and that I should be happy that they were going to make hot fries (while my burger was sitting on the counter getting cold) is totally and completely unacceptable. If I could give it no stars I would. I sat inside waiting for my takeout order for nearly 30 minutes. I had no where to be and I wanted to see how long it was going to take even know shortly after I ordered I realized it would be a long wait. I sat at a table and watched the staff behind the counter. They weren't short handed but they were all working in what looked like synched slow motion. Slice roast beef, add 3 ladles of juice squish twice put on bun, repeat. Then the sandwich-wrapper who placed each sandwich squarely in the center of the wrapper then just stared at it setting in front of him for 30 seconds before proceeding to wrap the sandwich. The folks on the front line checked the receipt, looked at the tray back to the rack of food back to the empty trays... I worked at Roy Rogers back in 1980 and still remember how to fold a damn sandwich. All I could do was laugh. Finally got my food and my roast beef was very done and fries not cooked enough. My husband picked up dinner tonight... & they substituted all ordered sides with cole slaw, which he did not notice until he got home. None of us eat cole slaw & it was not in our original order at all. Lesson learned: thoroughly check order & open ALL containers before driving away. I have always enjoyed the food here, but the service is what sets the place apart for me. II was there a few days ago and the manager was at the register taking orders because they were busy. He was pleasant and took our order as you would expect him to. I moved over to the side and had my family go get a seat while I waited on the food. A few parts of my order came our before the rest did. While it was sitting on the counter, a different customer picked up his order and must have dragged his sleeve over my chicken fingers. The manager took them off my tray and tossed them out. The had them make a fresh order. I looked at him funny since AI had no idea why he did that. He explained to me that he thought he say that other guy's sleeve touch the food. I had not noticed it, but he was not going to let that food be served if there was any question about it. I feel weird giving a fast food place 5 stars, but for what it is Roy Rogers in LaPlata is the best out of all the available choices. read more
