When I was a kid Roy Rogers was one of my favourite places to go. As a kid they served my favourite chicken nuggets and when you add some fries and a toy it was my chubby little dream come true. I ended up stopping at the rest area and when it was between this and Starbucks it was a no contest to return to my child hood favourite. I split a 10 piece chicken tender and some fries with my girlfriend and I honestly expected to be super disappointed with my experience, but I was proven wrong here. The chicken tenders were actually pretty darn good for what they were and I was a fan of the breading. The fries were pretty top notch for fast food/rest area fries as well. Although Roy Rogers is not the company it was 25 years ago, they still exist and they still taste pretty darn good. read more

I was excited to see this restaurant in the travel plaza since fried chicken options aren't as common in the travel plazas I'd driven across (mostly burgers, subs, coffee, or pretzels). Unfortunately, this was just an overpriced option which took quite a while to prepare. The fries were a bit salty and tasted like they were cooked with stale oil. The chicken strips had a batter that was hard, not crisp -- with meat that was overcooked. From what I could see, the tomatoes, lettuce, and onions looked a bit dry and old. One of the more disappointing food experiences I've had from a travel plaza. KFC and Popeyes in other plazas I've seen are just as pricey, but at least had better flavors and textures. read more

If Al bought half the shares in this franchise from Roy, it'd be Roy-Al. And fit for a King. And a princess. But it's so not. Roy Rogers chicken is not awful. It doesn't taste as salty and addictive as KFC but it is along similar lines. It's better than Chick-fil-A. However this location always charged more than your average outpost of Roy Rogers. Because it was on the Thruway and so it had a premium charge. Which is ridiculous. I'm sad to see that it closed down but not surprised. I believe it has been replaced by a Burger King. read more

I know it's rest stop food but this has to be the worst rest stop food I've ever tasted. Roy Rogers in my area went extinct ages ago so when we saw it advertised we decided to stop and get something for nostalgia sake. I wish we'd kept driving. No line and two very bored and slow employees who didn't seem to want to serve us the southwestern chicken sandwich (maybe they knew how bad it was...). That sandwich was so gross. Barely heated up with "sauce" added that was messy and bitter. The cheese on top wasn't even melted. It was inedible. The mashed potatoes were two little spoons of potato drowned in a bitter gravy. Barely edible. So glad that's all we ordered as it was a total waste of money. read more

OMG this is in no way fast food. Kitchen is being run by two people who are just sort of meandering around discussing things and not doing a whole lot of cooking food that I can see. If I hadn't already paid I would have just walked out. read more

I've never been a big fan of Roy Rogers, but on my way home at 2 in the morning it was the only thing open. I ordered the Gold Rush chicken sandwich combo and surprisingly it was solid. The fries were hot, crispy, and salty. They reminded me of Wendy's fries, they weren't amazing, but they got the job done. The chicken sandwich was actually pretty good. The chicken was tender, juicy, and grilled nicely. The barbecue sauce and cheese added flavor and helped elevate the sandwich. The bun was fresh, but lacked flavor. The whole meal came to $11 which I felt was too much for fast food, but prices are always raised at rest stops. Overall, Roy Rogers is better than I remembered and it's a solid fast food joint. read more

Awful! On our way through we stopped at this service area and they didn't have very many options. My boyfriend opted to get a breakfast sandwich from here. A ham, egg, and cheese on a croissant. When he opened the package it was very greasy more so than any other fast food restaurant. They don't have hash browns just "breakfast fries" which are like fried thin cut potatoes. I'm not sure how this chain is still around. Try to make it to the next service stop if possible. read more

Warning: I would not give this a shot! Please think twice before you walk off iwth your ordered meal before you would regret! It was not a great first-time experience or as an impression inside this location. Here is the story... As I am driving home on the highway from my road trip I caught Roy Rogers on the rest area sign and thought that's interesting to try. Boy, was it interesting alright. I went to the counter and the kid that was taking the order doesn't seem too enthusiastic. I did try to make a conversation to ask about the foods and how to order since it was my first time not knowing anything. He wasn't very helpful and showed a very sad vibe, I just then proceed to study the menu but also as I was looking around I only saw about 4-5 chicken pieces sitting out and thought that doesn't look promising..freshly made? Not popular? Well, I also thought that it seemed overpriced for the size and pieces that were shown under the heater. But I was hungry and I went ahead ordered what I thought looked good and filling from the picture. The chicken strips I had ordered was not what I had expected. It was not filling. It was not big and juicy and it was not worth $10. It was small as compared to a nugget-sized and it was not as tender but it was chewy, I am sure that was because it's been sitting there for a while. I was appalled and shocked when I opened up the 'big' box to find 5 tiny strips inside. And surely it did not tame the hunger. That made me felt deceived as well as feeling horrible that I was late to see the product before I drove off. I am so very disappointed and your brand made me feel horrible. I also made a call to the host of this location to make this complaint. She told me someone from Roy Rogers will contact me within 48 hours but of course, it was a lie. This lady hung up the line on my first call to her as I was trying to explain my disappointment. I then called right back and I can hear that she is only pretending to listen but without the intention of resolving this issue. So, yes, I am very disappointed about the whole experience and I was this to be heard. What a great start to my new year, thanks. read more

I would give no stars is possible. Both my husband and myself got food poising. We visited Friday 7/24/2020. So much food was sitting under the heat lamps. Was our mistake. Inside was a mess and employees were just standing around talking fooling around. read more
